Calling from Mac

I love Yosemite's new feature allowing me to take calls from my iPhone with my Mac. However the one major problem I keep running into is when I need to use the dialpad to deal with an electronic menu. For the most part, the phone is usually near me, but here's the problem...when I go to use the dialpad, it transfers the call to my phone. There doesn't seem to be any way to set it up not to do this. I know there have been some rumblings about an app that includes a dialpad, since there isn't one in Facetime...anyone come up with a workaround?

When iPhone calling from Mac, how do I get a to...

  • Can't make phone calls from mac Yosemite with iphone6

    I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) and using iphone6 with IOS 8.1
    1) I am on the same wifi and subnet
    2) signed in on the same Apple ID both on Mac, Mac FaceTime, iphon6 and iphone6 FaceTime
    3) enabled Cellular calls on iPhone and from mac
    4) Handoff turned on, on both devices
    5) Restarted everything more than twice
    6) firewall allows connections
But STILL CANT MAKE CALLS or RECEIVE CALLS FROM MAC..... its says "iPhone Not Available, Your iPhone and Mac must be on the same Wi-Fi network"
    Anyone knows whats going on???

Call your carrier, my daughter's phone stopped working one Saturday night and it turned out our AT&T account had been hacked by someone somewhere  in the US at a Walmart.  They bought a new phone, upgrading from her phone knocking out her number and sim card.  AT&T told her to go to phone store Sunday morning and they gave her new phone.  We followed through with the theft report.  About a weel later the Visa we pay the phone bill with was attempted to be used at a phone store in Sacremento.
Anyway, your carrier will restore service if it nots working for any reason.

Are there some specific wifi settings I need to make?

Actually I have found one more input into this. My wifi network supports 802.11b+g+n and not 802.11ac.
Could this be the possible problem ?

  • Sound issues making phones calls from Mac

When making or receiving calls thru continuity on my Mac (27" Late 2013; IOS 8.1 iPhone 5S), the person on the other end says the call sounds like I'm in a tunnel, has some distortion and is at times not clear enough to understand what I'm saying.  I have used the internal microphone on the mac and have also used a "Yeti" external microphone with the same results.  I did try "Face Time" audio as a test and the sound was much improved and satisfactory at the caller's end.  There are no issues with the sound from my end sitting at the computer.

Making iPhone Calls from Mac Doesn't Work
Your points 1 & 2 have nothing to do with it.
On 3, is it turned on on your iPhone and your Mac?

  • Can't place iPhone call from Mac (can receive calls though)

-MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) with Yosemite (10.10)
    -iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1
Both use same iCloud account and same FaceTime account. Both have 'iPhone Cellular Calls' enabled under FaceTime settings.
I cannot place an outgoing call from my Mac. I've been getting an error 'iPhone Calls Not Available. Your iPhone must use the same iCloud and FaceTime account' but it does indeed..
I tried to reboot both devices, signed out/in iCloud, played with the toggle-switches - still nothing. Though when I am receiving an incoming call on iPhone - I can take it on Mac.
The only idea I have - my cellular provider is not supported by Apple FaceTime server so I've been using only AppleID to place FaceTime calls (no phone number used) and it's been working fine up to now. But if you go into FaceTime settings of my iPhone you see 'Activation unsuccessful.'
Can anyone confirm if you can place calls from Mac with having FaceTime activated only by AppleID (no cellular phone number) on your iPhone?
    Thanks.

I was able to get it worked after enabling iMessage/FaceTime with my phone number. This issue made me to find out a way to do that -)
In case you are with WIND (Canada) here is the solution to activate FaceTime:

hello i accidentally synced all my photos from Iphoto and they doubled, i removed them all eventually to re-import them again, but i have no camera folder anymore and i have a folder called "From Mac" how can i turn it back to normal?

That is normal for photos synced from a computer to a phone using iTunes. Synced photos were never placed in the Camera Roll. Additionally since iOS 8 there is no Camera Roll: http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/09/19/goodbye-camera-roll-where-to-find-your -photos-in-ios-8

  • IPhone 6 seems to crash when making phone call from Mac

When using my iPhone 6 Plus to make phone calls from the Macintosh, (initiating call from Mac Contacts app in Yosemite) the iPhone continually brings up the Apple logo and does a quick restart over and over again. The phone call, however seems to work, but it's just that the iPhone looks as if it's going crazy showing the Apple logo and then the home screen over and over again.  This had worked initially, but not anymore. Both iPhone 6 and MacBookPro up to date with updates.

If you never find an app that will do it then you could have a go at making one yourself-I don't think you need to pay Apple as long as you don't want to sell it.

  • I can send calls from Mac but incoming calls do not show up on Mac.

Just downloaded Yosemite 10.10 on 10-21-14. I can make calls on my mac but unable to receive calls on my Mac. No notifications for incoming calls on my mac. Everything else runs fine. Messaging and calls from my mac works fine. I am running IOS 8.1 on a iPhone 4s. I have a 2009 Macbook Pro 2.54 duo with 8 gb of ram.

There is no Adobe printer in recent versions of Mac OS. Look instead for a Save As Adobe PDF pull down.

  • FaceTime - works fine calling from Mac to IPad 2. Calling from iPad 2 to Mac always have message saying the Mac side is not available or busy.

Calling Mac form Ipad2 works fine. I call from Ipad2 to Mac it is alway not available.
Both Mac and Ipad2 has OS 5 and the latest Factime app.
    Please help.

I actually am experiencing the same dilemma as you!
My sister owns a MacBook White 13 inch and even though she is online my calls don't seem to go through!
Make sure the recipient has turned FaceTime on and that he or she is already signed in to FaceTime,
If that doesn't work then contact and iTunes Store Support here:

    Hopefully I resolved this issue

  • Who can tell me whether I can make a call from MAC if iPhone 5s doesn't support FaceTime ?

MBP is OS X yasmite, and iphone 5s is 8.1, but iPhone 5s was bought in UAE, does not support FaceTime,
it means I cannot make a call from my MBP, right?

Wrong.  The setting is not on the iPhone and whether it has Facetime or not is irrelevant because the iPhone does nothing really. it should be on the computer however.
On your Mac, open the FaceTime app, then go to Preferences under FaceTime, and tap Settings. Make sure the iPhone Cellular Calls option is switched on.
With that on, make sure both the Mac and the iPhone or on the same Wifi network. and both are signed in with the same Apple ID to iCloud.
    Then it should work.

  • Outgoing calls from Mac don't work

    Hi folks,
handoff is working so far. I can receive incoming calls on my Mac. But I am not able to make calls from my Mac. It is starting but everytime it quits with an error and I am able to retry or quit but retry don't work either.
I have checked all settings, logged-out and -in to iCloud but nothing works.
    Any hints?
    Steve

What i did and it fixed the problem after i checked that both mac and iPhone are on the same network and have the same iCloud account and the phone number is mentioned on mac also. I just viewed the iCloud account from the FaceTime on iPhone and then everything work perfectly.

  • Can make audio calls from mac pro

FaceTime and Messages setup per instructions (on phone 5s iOS 8.1 and Mac Pro13 Retina Yosemite 10.10). Can make a Face time call but not audio from Mac. The Contacts iPhone icon pops up the quickly disappears. Under Face Time call audio works but video fails,

I think I resolved this! I had the same issues you have been having for a few months. I am actually running Vista. Here is what I did...
    1. While booted to Windows I uninstalled boot camp
    2. Re-installed boot camp from Leopard DVD
    3. Installed boot camp update 2.1 (downloaded from Apple support, i know this is for XP only, but I updated anyway.)
    4. Downloaded the realtek drivers (high definition audio codecs) from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
    5. DO NOT use the Realtek installer to install the drivers...instead extract the contents to a folder.
    6. Go to the device manager, locate the High Definition Audio device and updated the drivers from here (point to the folder where you extracted the drivers).
I now have sound out of the rear jack!! Hope this help someone
    Regards,

  • Change iPhone number for outgoing calls from mac (Yosemite)

I have two iPhones, and one of the iPhone is set for iPhone cellular calls (handoff) in macbook under FaceTime preference. How to change this number so that I can make outgoing calls from different iPhone?

    Hi,
If you Erased the Drive  and set up the computer anew it will depend on how you migrated/imported your Mac User Account (if you even did).
Mostly the process will make the Mac seen as a "New" computer.
In some cases this will means settings that involve some sort of "pairing" will not work.
You may also get to the point of having 5 "devices" linked to iTunes because of this.
I have  G4 that is coming up on 121 years old.
It has 4 drive bays and some of the drives are partitioned.
It will boot into OS 9 and every version of OS X up to and including Leopard (OS X 10.5)
I have tended to Clone the current set up and then Update the main Drive.
It does mean though that iTunes counts them all individually.
On top of that I have a Snow Leopard MacBook Pro and my current Yosemite booted iMac (It also has Older OSes on External Drives)
The outcome is that you might have to re-link the two devices.

  • Making continuity calls from mac and ipad

    Hi,
I'm not able to make calls from my mac and ipad. I get a message that says your iphone is not configured, but I have done all the procedure required for that. I'm guessing that facetime is required for this feature to work and I don't have facetime on my iphone since I bought it with carrier contract in UAE.
I'm having Macbook pro with retina mid 2014 (os x yosemite), iphone 5s (ios 8) and ipad mini (ios 8).
Please help me if there is a way to get around with that.
    Cheers

If you do not have Facetime on your phone, then that particular feature will not work.
I would send feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Requesting they look into alternatives for those who do not have access to Facetime.
