Calling JNI from a java sp.

I read in 8.1.5 docs that JNI is not enabled in the Oracle JVM (for customers)
Still the case in in 8.1.7?
Has anyone (Brian?) had success when making RMI calls from the Oracle JVM?

Well, the problem with JNI, is a difficult issue. See, the C code would have to be linked with the Oracle executable itself and if not functionning properly (er, say core-dumping, or referencing random places in memory) could corrupt the quality of your precious data in the database. (For example, bogus code could overwrite data in the buffer caches). So JNI is indeed here and used in-house for most natives but is not available for customers. Sigh.
Now, doing an RMI callout to a standalone RMI server that uses JNI is a GOOD IDEA. It's functional and recommended.
The issues about RMI and scalability is when you want to use oracle itself as an RMI server. Not when you want to do RMI callouts.

You have to establish a URLConnection with servlet from your java program.

you need to open a connection to the servlet. Then you must call getInputStream() and getOutputStream() and use them in any way you see fit. I was trying this before and could not get POST to work unless I openned the input stream from the servlet. Strange... but doGet worked without openning the input stream???

Calling JPA from a Java Stored Procedure

Is it possible to call JPA from a java stored procedure? If so, does anyone have example? How do you setup the persistence.xml?
How does the peformance compare with straight JDBC in a java stored procedure?

Basically you can run any JDK 1.5 framework inside your Oracle 11g JVM, I have experience integrating Lucene IR library as a new [Domain Index for Oracle 11g/10g|http://docs.google.com/View?id=ddgw7sjp_54fgj9kg] .
I am not familiar with JPA internals but my advice is howto handle the connection inside the OJVM and the configuration files.
Some time ago I took a look to SpringFramework integration and I found that writing a new ApplicationContext class which handles the loading of beans.xml from XMLDB repository instead a file should be enough to work.
Another important point is the life cycle of the [Oracle internal JVM|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/java.112/e10588/chtwo.htm#BABHGJFI]. Unlike an standard JVM the OJVM is created once you first connect from the middle tier at OCI level and remains in execution during the connection pool existence.
I mean, if you connect using a JDBC pool the JVM will remains running across multiple soft open/close connections of your middle tier application. This is good because you can read your persistence.xml file using a Singleton class and this expensive operation will be re-used by multiple open/close operation done from the middle tier.
I suggest you do a simple Proof of Concept with a Hello World application and check if it works.
Remember that any security issues will be notified to the .trc files, security issues are related to the strong security layer configured by default inside the OJVM, for example you can not read any files from the OS file system without an specific grant, you need another grant to access to the class loader and so on, but you can simply grant this specific needs to a database role and then grant this role to the user which connect to the OJVM.
Another important point is related to the [End-of-Call Optimization|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/java.112/e10588/chtwo.htm#BABIFAAI] this can be useful if you want to perform some clean up in your Singleton class at the level of per-statement execution.

Is it ok to call an entity bean or session bean frm normal Java class.
(Java class is in the same application as the beans).

it is ok and very commonly done.
Note that the simple java program must be running in the same local network. You cannot have the java program and EJBs distributed over internet. (I m not certain of it, but mostly I shoudl be correct. If you have the resources, try it out and let me know)
In most of the cases, EJBs are called by
1. A servlet
2. Another EJB
3. a simple java program.
In the first 2 cases, you can go for Local Interfaces (more so in the second case than the first). The reason being that the the client and server will be in the same JVM (typically the Application server). Thus, in the first case, if the Web container and the ejb container are in the same app server, EJBs can be local.
However, in the third case, it is unlikey that you will have the client runnng and the same jvm as the server, because the app server has its own jvm.

Problem Calling JNI from a servlet

Hi guys,
How can I trace a C program called from a servlet using JNI ? The problem is a cant see the standard output of the C program because I call it from an applet, not from the console. I would preffer not to generate an error output from the C program, only see the text output this program outputs to the console.

Have you tried adding a pipe to the calling command?
For example:
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("myutil.exe > output.txt");
p.waitFor();
Once the program has finished, the output from the myutil.exe can be found in the file output.txt.

Calling JNI from my servlet

I am using a servlet and I am calling the JNI method, but it is throwing an error like
"java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: check_file". (check_file is my JNI method.)
I have checked the included header file name and function name, they are proper and correct. Can any one tell me some solution forthis problem. Thanks in advance.

I found the solution for this query from jguru forum. I thought it will be helpful for persons like me, so i am posting it here. Consider the flg. example.
All programs are under package "com.myprogram"
MyServlet.java (My servlet program)
GetInfo.java (My Java link program)
GetInfofromCLib.c(My JNI interface program)
MyServlet.java ---> Servlet that calls the get_info() native method of GetInfo.java

so now if u create "javah -jni GetInfo"
it will create the function name like

And also in the GetInfofromCLib.c we need to refer this way. Hope this will help others......

Calling JNI from within a ejb

Hi,
I'm trying to call a native method from a EJBean class,using iPlanet App Server, after deployment, when i run, I'm getting the following error,
"com.netscape.server.eb.UncheckedException: java.lang.Error thrown by impl nextgensecurity.NgtnSecurityBean@1ade762, err = java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: validateinHSM "
But the same thing is working when tried with a simple java class,
can any one help regarding this ASAP,

But the LD_LIBRARY PATH is set to the user that runs the App Server, Since it is throwing a UnsatisfiedLinkError, there must be a problem with the link only(i.e calling native method).
The flow of data is as follows
1 A method from ejb calls another java method in an other java class which is in the same jar file,passing the actual arguments.
2 That java method calls the Native methos residing in the same class file
3 The Native mentod calls a c function as usual
My ejb is working fine up to the Native Method call, at this point it is throwing an error
All my java files are in a package, and my .h file contains package name in the prototype of c function
If you get any ideas please mail me ASAP

Calling Servlet from a java class

Hi,
I don�t know what I�m doing wrong...
I try to call a servlet located in a tomcat webserver, from a class, and capture its output. I use an URLConnection object... Everything is all right when I want to get an html page, but, it reports an IOException (FileNotFoundException) when the requested resource is a servlet.
This servlet is working correctly.
Can�t I use an URLConnection to access servlets?

How to call a shell script from a java code

Hello can any one suggest me how to call a shell script from a java program that takes three parameters.
i have a shell script (msp_restore_gui) when i run this script in the command line in a RHEL5 ,SUSE10 and Debian machine it works fine .I even tested to call it from a java program and it also worked fine but when i used the same in a J2ee application where the user when clicks the restore button in a webserver this inturn sends the request to a java file named BackupManager.java where i call the shell script.But here it fails.Waiting for your suggestions.If you want i can put the code also here

Calling searchadminctl from Java failing

I am trying to call searchadminctl from a Java application, to make some automation around installing thesaurus. The searchadminctl batch file gets called alright and its own Java application gets started, but it gives me this error:

As you can see, the delete operation goes well, but create fails. The NLS_LANG message seems to be shown no matter what the real error was though.
The funny thing is, that I have tried to take the EXACT command with the EXACT parameters my Java application calls, and call it manually, and then it works just fine. Any ideas on how to get this to work? Any ideas what these ORA-XXXXX errors is?

Last night when I was somewhere between this world and dream world I scanned through my code in my mind and found the error, and it is my bad... I called the searchadminctl with my thesaurus file as argument, just before I closed my OutputStream to the file, which we all know is quite a bad idea.
So the answer is: it is absolutly no problem to call searchadminctl from Java :)
