Calling landlines in South Africa

I bought a 120 minute per month land line calling subscription for South Africa. I also have normal calling credit which I bought. Skype does not give me my 120 minutes per month and charges me for landline calls to South Africa according to my calling record. How do you bring this to the attention of Skype administartion?

This information is a little out of date. I just spoke to the Film and Publications Board in Johannesburg. They said that to rate an individual game, they charge R2000.00. However, in the case of cellphone games, they have made agreements with certain local suppliers to allow them to self-rate games, and with the FPB to review at intervals. This allows them not to have to pay for tiny or free games this large amount. Also, they have assisted Nokia in the set-up of the local Ovi store where games are sold for Nokia Symbian phones.
They have explained to me that Apple has never approached them in any way to even talk about games or game ratings. So they are themselves at a loss over why Apple is not selling games here in South Africa, as many others are without any issues. This just proves that Apple is the party that is not coming to the party!
I have submitted endless requests to Apple, and invariably their answer is (1) the developer hasn't published their game for your region (which is incorrect, as they check the "worldwide release" box or (2) They say something about iTunes Music, but we're talking about a category in the App Store.
All this is now also true for the MAC App Store.... Which means that people won't play games on their Macs via the Mac App Store, they will have to get actual disc version instead. Or, just get a UK or US-based gift-card system going...

Each country has its own version of the iTunes Store and what may be available in one country may not be available in another.  You also will not be able to re-download purchases you made in Germany which is why I hope you made copies of everything before you changed stores or at least do so now.

    Hello,
    1. Yes. Change your SkypeToGo location to South Africa and register your Madagascar contact's #.
    2. You don't need an internet connection to use STG.

  • South Africa Online Number not charged at local ra...

    Hello,
I bought a South Africa online number so that my friends and family can contact me when I travel. "An Online number lets family, friends and colleagues call a no from their mobile or landline at local rates". My father informed me, however, that when he calls the number it gets charged at premium call rates (R2/minute). This was not my intention at all, he might as well have phone my cellphone directly and it would've been cheaper. Can this be fixed and if not, I would like to request a refund.

  • Just got to South Africa and have no service although I purchased an add on?

When I got to South Africa and realised I didn't have any service, I purchased a roaming '30 mins anywhere non EU' add on. However I still don't have service?
    Please can someone help!
    Thanks so much in advance!

Buying a bundle doesn't mean that your device will work aborad you need to make sure roaming is enabled on your account.
If you have a EE extra plan you still need to make sure roaming is enable on your account your plan only gives you free/cheaper calls when abroad.
If your wanting to enable roaming on your account there could be a deposit to pay if you haven't had the device for about 6 months.
Unless you have paid the deposit then roaming is not enabled on your account.
You need to activate roaming on your account by calling 150 from your device or from a landline 01707 315000 before you leave the UK.
But you still might be able todo this if you are abroad.
From the home page of your account go to "Plan and add-ons>Manage this device>>Usage Controls> and select Allow on call abroad and premium rate, If the option is not there you need to call
It can take 24 hours to activate
If you had this device/contract for under 6 months you need to call customer services on +44 7953 966250 from a landline.
Once you have activated roaming you can then use this link to see what cost there is and what bundles you can have.
    http://explore.ee.co.uk/roaming/ee
    Please read this about voicemail
    http://ee.co.uk/help/getting-started/setting-up-voicemail/divert-to-voicemail
    And this
    http://ee.co.uk/articles/set-up-your-phone-for-using-abroad
Also sending a text to 150 with the words of RO country your going to i.e. RO Spain will get you a reply of what the costs will be from that country.

  • FaceTime and imessage not working in South Africa

Help! I'm in South Africa for a month and my iMessage and  FaceTime aren't working. When I try to imessage someone, the message says "turn off airplane mode or use wifi to send and receive messages" but i have full wifi strength. When I try to FaceTime, it says to check the number, it might not be complete. I've tried calling the number as usual, then the international number to ca from South Africa to the US.
I have an iPhone 5s, My email is working fine. My phone is on airplane mode but I have full wifi strength. My date and time is set automatically to Cape Town. Please someone help me figure out why this isn't working! I can't find any other solutions on the internet. Thank you!

    backup the device with itunes.
Restore the device with itunes and set up as new.

  • Best practices for a trip to South Africa?

I'm planning on travelling to South Africa in May for about 3 weeks and I was wondering about the various problems that might arise.
I used the international trip planner tool and saw that for the voice rate it says: Standard: $2.89. Is that per minute? Would I be better off getting a calling card?
Also I noticed a rate for text messages so I'm assuming that my unlimited messaging plan does not apply or am I wrong?
Is there a way for me to block incoming text messages while I am away so I don't incur those charges?
    Thanks!

Also in order not to pay a fortune for the service is it better to acquire if needed a SIM card only once there?
Check with your carrier about roaming charges.  They are usually prohibitive.  Best to get a local SIM.

  • IPhone 4 purchased in South Africa, being used in Toronto Canada?

    Hey everybody,
I have an iPhone 4 that I bought in South Africa. It was an unlocked phone in South Africa and could be used with any carrier. I have moved to Toronto, Canada and the phone is locked here. I have contacted one of the network providers back home and they said it possibly could be that the frequency that Canada uses and the carriers use, are not supported with my South African iPhone 4. Is this correct or is there anything I could do (besides putting it on e bay or sending it back home) to use it here in Canada? I have been to numerous Apple stores here and in New York and they tell me the phone is locked and there is nothing they can do to assist. I don't want the phone to be used just for calling and texting, I want the phone to be able to function the way a normal iPhone should with all data and interent capabilities.
    Please help.
I would highly appreciate some good advice.
    Thank you.

All iphones sold in South Korea are locked to SHOW and SHOW does not offer official unlocking, so no, an iphone purchased in South Korea won't activate or work in the US.
Indeed, iphone sold in South Korea is locked to SHOW even when you purchase it, but they changed it, SHOW now offers official unlocking according to this: http://smartblog.show.co.kr/249
It is in Korean and I can read them and it clearly says, that they will unlock the iphone if and only if it's purchased in Korea, that it's active (in Korea they do allow temporary stop if you are on a vacation or what (but of course they can't unlock it if the line is inactive, you still keep the number and you just pay the minimal), where in U.S it's either use it or terminate it), you can still have them unlock for you even if you are still under contract. It can take up to 3 days. and you will receive an sms what to do.
    This took effect on 9/10/10.

now I've just got to figure out a way of getting the network operator to help out.
Network operators aren't very cooperative on the whole. There are many hurdles to clear before you can get any joy out of them.
Firstly, the front-line personnel that you speak with when you call customer service and when you visit one of their stores don't usually have a clue what has actually been done to the phones. They don't know what firmware is, let alone branded firmware. The idea is therefore to convince them to escalate your query to someone who has two brain cells to rub together (not easy to find in most telcos). If/when you do get to speak to someone, there's a 99% chance they'll blame the lack of updated firmware on Nokia. They almost invariably do that.
The thing you have to bear in mind is the politics and the huge amount of money involved. Any one operator buys tens if not hundreds of thousands of handsets from Nokia, so if Nokia decided to start debranding those handsets, thus removing the stuff that the operator had put on them in order to "protect their revenue streams" (read: fleece the end-user), the networks would simply stop shifting Nokia handsets and make a deal with another manufacturer.
Nokia Care Points can debrand a phone for you, change the phone's product code and install the latest, generic Nokia firmware on it, but only if these conditions are met:
    1) the phone must not be SIM-locked (i.e. it must work with any SIM, not just one from your operator)
    2) you must have written permission from the operator to debrand the phone, clear out the operator-specific firmware and install Nokia's generic firmware.
If those two conditions are met (the first is easy enough, the second is as good as impossible), a Nokia Care Point will change the phone's product code, update it to the latest firmware and print out a new product identification label for the battery compartment.
This is the only way to go about it legitimately and without voiding your warranty. Any other methods you might find on the Internet, which involve software not sanctioned and provided by Nokia, will void your warranty and therefore cannot be discussed on these forums.
    Good luck!

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to turn off push notification capabilities to avoid int'l data roaming while traveling in South Africa?  I want to leave my phone active, but do not want my e-mail or apps to automatically update data and avoid HUGE International roaming charges.  I know I have the option of putting the phone in "Airplane Mode", but I wanted to randomly gain access to my emails, voice calls and Text messages.

No. You're fully capable of using google. Or looking at the verizon.com web site to find one.
