Calling Oracle Reports from WEB Pages(JSP)

We are using Weblogic as the web server, Oracle 8i as the database and JSP(Java Server Pages) as the scripting language.
We need reports to be invoked and displayed to the browser. Is it possible to invoke Oracle Reports 6i reports from JSP WEB pages and display the output to the browser? How can we do this and what are the additional s/w requirements, if any?

yes it is possible. There is a cgi script called viewreport.cgi. Have the jsp page call it (GET or POST method) and place the user parameters inside the form.

you may do a few things from menus and by adding buttons, but this is not really standard.
You may add button on the form or web page that after a certain action or event. You'll have to do personalization / extension and everything is present in oracle for normal report submission.

Run_product is no more available into 9i & 10g, Run_report_object is not working with out put type "Screen" or "preview".

You can use RUN_REPORT_OBJECT with CACHE type, and WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT to view the document on the screen.
In the Forms help you should find examples.
If you have access to Metalink, have a look at Note:207396.1.

Regarding tutorial of how to call Oracle Reports from APEX

I'm trying to call Oracle Reports from APEX using this tutorial.

But in the step of 'Create the Oracle HTML DB Application', 'OE' doesn't appear in the LOV of Existing Schema, even though the sample schema exists in the schema and they are unlocked. And when I type 'OE' directly without using LOV, and press Next, the message 'Schema is reserved or restricted' appears.
How can I create the workspace based on OE schema?

I know your following the tutorial, but if you want to call oracle reports from apex it is quite easy though if your working with oracle reports 9i or higher. Just create an html region and put in the source the html code for referencing an url like to_report
Or reference the same url from a button placed on the HTML region
(you can create a package that would create the whole URL and returns it as a string, easier for scalability)
Hope this can help you to (tutorial is good but try and learn from scratch is also good ;-) )

Hi Joe,
the how-to is still valid for APEX 3.0. Calling an Oracle Report from APEX is still the same, it's basically the URL you build for the report call and Oracle Reports hasn't changed that format.

There is nothing similar to forms-reports integration, but you can invoke rwservlet url.

Hi Sreekanth;
Change your output type from PDF to HTML. Then it will give you clear error message in HTML page after fixing it if you able to see/run report fine in HTML then change your output type back to PDF.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to invoke an oracle report from a java application.

yes it is possible. There is a cgi script called viewreport.cgi. Have the jsp page call it (GET or POST method) and place the user parameters inside the form.

Oracle reports does have a Web API when reports are run from the application server. As a result one way to do what you are asking is to write a Web service that use java.net.URL to invoke the Reports Service Web interface:

As I understand it, this interface itself is actually being exposed as a Web service in a future release of Oracle9iAS Reports ... I don't know if this is a Oracle9iAS Reports 9.0.4 feature or beyond that. You might try asking on the Reports forum:

We have a web application developed in JSP, I'd like to use Oracle Reports writer to generate reports (Since our back office application is developed using Oracle forms and Reports - 6i).
