Calling Webservice in Portlet

Hi,
Kindly let me know if we can call a webservice in a portlet and if yes, how???

In general, yes, of course. How? Like from any other java code!
The thing can become trickier, if you want to use some environmental variables (e.g. skip the authentication, call a webservice of a portal where the portlet runs, etc.)
You should be more specific.

  • Error while calling WebService inside ISchedulerTask.

    Hi,
    Env: NW 2004s
      I have a requirement of calling webservice frequently. I developed a portal project with scheduler, where the application gives a runtime error while calling/reading the property file (which is generated during the webservice proxy generation, without it webservice call is impossible).
    I have varified the ear file which contains all the required class files and config files including property file.
    fyi:
    portalapp.xml file looks like this.

    and while googling i came to know that stubs can be created using jdev9i .but when i see new-->webservices--web service stub it is greyed out.
    i have 2 questions now:
    1)if stub created using axis can it be used in jdev9i? if yes ,please tell me how? any tutorial links also helps me.
    2)if the stubs should be created only by jdev9i so that webservices can be called using jdev,then please guide me how to make it.

    If your goal is "call" a web service, Jason's Straub's [flex-ws-api|https://flex-ws-api.samplecode.oracle.com/] is by far the best I've seen. You might want read more about it on [his blog|http://jastraub.blogspot.com/search?q=+flex_ws_api+].

  • VBA Call WebServices: How to handle a returned empty complex array?

    Hi,
        These days I got a task to call a web service by VBA in Excel, but faced the following two problems about empty complex array.
    <b>1. When the returned value of a web service contains empty array, it crashed with "SoapMapper: array dimensions do not match definition"</b>
        Another guy faced the same question with me, detail at http://www.topxml.com/SOAPToolkit/rn-246726_SoapMapper-array-dimensions-do-not-match-definition.aspx
    <b>2. When the input parameter contains empty array, it crashed with "Operation Not Supported"</b>
    Dim arrayStudent() As Student
    Call webservice.DoThings( arrayStudent )

    Hello,
    we have faced the same Problem in our PHP / Typo3 solution. We used this switch:
    $object_array = array();
    if (is_object($salesorders->SALES_ORDERS_HEAD->item)) {
         $object_array[] = $salesorders->SALES_ORDERS_HEAD->item;
    } else {
         $object_array = $salesorders->SALES_ORDERS_HEAD->item;

  • Can we call a pdk portlet from other pdk portlet

    Hi friends,
    Can i call a pdk portlet from other pdk portlet when an event happens.
    Scenario:
    I have a pdk portlet with 10 html links. When anyone clicks on a link then a new portlet should be displayed in the same page.
    Is it possible to call one portlet from others.
    Please help me out with ur ideas or any workarounds.
    Thanks & Rgds,

    Neeraj,
    Let me state my requirements very clear to u.
    1)I have a search portlet at top right corner.
    2)Below there is a region with 3 tabs(say A, B, C).
    3)When anyone searches for anything in the search portlet then the results should be displayed in new search tab(say D).
    4)If any one navigates to other tab(ie A or B or C) then the search tab(ie D) should not be displayed.
    This is my requirement. Can u please suggest me with how this can be achieved. I am just a beginner to Oracle portals10.1.4 and i am using JPDK to create portlets.
    Please do reply ASAP.
    With thanks & Rgds,

  • Calling Webservice

    I understand that we can call a web service from oracle database using PL/SQL, just wanted to confirm if that is a good design and coding practice and if there are any disadvantages in doing so.
    Thanks
    Tapash

    Whether this is a good design depends on the circumstances. It is not wrong or right by default. Usually, calling webservices from PL/SQL requires some more work than invoking it from Java using IDE wizards or invoking it from a SOA stack, e.g. from an ESB. But if you don't have any Java technology or SOA toolstack in place, invoking the web service from PL/SQL could be ok. If you have SOA technology in place I would use an ESB and adapters. If it concerns bulk data, don't use web services. The decision to use PL/SQL or not also depends on the experience/knowledge of the project team.
