CallManager 7.0.x Backup

When you perform a backup from the Publisher does it backup the Publusher as well as all Subscribers as well or do you have to backup each Subscriber seperately?

Hi there,
The DRS backup will backup all nodes (Pub & Subs)
The Disaster Recovery System performs a  cluster-level backup, which means that it collects backups for all  servers in a Cisco Unified Communications Manager cluster to a central  location and archives the backup data to physical storage device.

  • SFTP Server for Callmanager 5.0(4) backup?

What is everyone using for the Backup functionality for Callmanager 5.0(4)? I used to just backup to a network share in 4.1, now that is not an option. Also is there any way to use standard ftp in callmanager 5.0(4) for backups? Any thoughts? I tried to use IIS and it didn't even seem to hit the IIS server.

CCM5 Backup to a Secure FTP Server
Author: Mike Malloy Date: 01/03/2007 Revision: 1
    Introduction
This document describes the basic steps to backup a CCM5 to a Secure FTP (SFTP) server.
CCM5 supports ONLY SFTP to perform network backups!!!
    Tools Needed
Laptop with SFTP Server software - freeFTPd used for this doc.
    Procedure
    Install and configure freeFTPd
    01. Download from http://www.freeftpd.com/ - approx 829M
    02. Install freeFTPd
    - select YES to create keys
    - select NO to run as service
    03. Launch freeFTPd using desktop icon – it will start minimized on System Tray.
    04. Configure freeFTPd
    - add user
    - configure logging
    - verify keys
    - Start the SFTP server
    05. Verify SFTP server running
    06. Right click icon to configure or quit freeFTPd
Configure Storage Location on CCM5 Disaster Recovery System
    01. Use Internet Explorer to Access DRS from CCMAdmin or directly at https://ipaddr/drf
    02. Login name and password is the SERVER login name – NOT the CCMAdministrator.
    03. Configure Network Storage Location
    - if sftp server connection test fails, you?ll see error in Status box
    04. freeFTPd logfile will show possible failure reasons
    - in this case, dir change was unsuccessful due to bad path name
    05. freeFTPd logfile showing successful Storage Location update.
    - Note: login was successful, but it always shows 3 access denied – why?!?!?
    Perform Manual Backup
    01. Start Manual Backup
    02. Watch as tar files are created.
    03. Watch progress bar as tar files are copied to sftp server
    04. Verify backup complete.
Verify files exist on sftp server
My PUB and 1 SUB created 17 files.
    Notes on freeFTPd logfile
!!! Shortly after backup starts see these lines repeated about 3 times
    01-03-2007 11:14:19 IP 172.30.1.201 SFTP sbc is changing dir to / (C:\backccm\)

    !Manual backup COMPLETE!!!
Watching freeFTPd Online Users shows 1 user logged in from start of backup AND a 2nd user with same name BRIEFLY appears about every 30 secs then disappears?!?!?

  • Cisco Unified Communication Manager Deployment Model Question

    Hello,
I am researching how to create a cluster over the WAN for CUCM and all of the design specifications I look at have a Voice Router between the cloud and the Subscribing servers. Why can the Subscribing servers not talk directly to each other?
    Thank You
    P.S such as this http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/4x/42models.html#wp1045977
    Local Failover Deployment Model
The local failover deployment model provides the most resilience for clustering over the WAN. Each of the sites in this model contains at least one primary Cisco Unified CallManager subscriber and one backup subscriber. This configuration can support up to four sites. The maximum number of phones and other devices will be dependant on the quantity and type of servers deployed. The maximum total number of IP phones for all sites is 30,000. (See Figure 2-5.)
Figure 2-5 Example of Local Failover Model

    Hi
They can talk to each other directly, you are correct.
Typically a voice router would also be a WAN router only in small branch sites.
On a deployment anywhere near the size indicated the voice gateways would be single-purpose hosts (as they are also indicated on the diagram).
I presume they are indicated with a V as the 'could' be voice gateways as well, though they would almost certainly not be.

  • Ciscoworks can backup Callmanager?

    Hi,
does anybody know if Ciscoworks is able to backup Callmanager configuration?
    thnks

We currently only support DRS as the official method for backup for CUCM.
You may also use ESXi features if you like, assuming you're running over ESXi.

  • CallManager 5.X backup image

Hello guys, i'm trying to find any product that allow us to make a complete backup image of my unix based Callmanagers 5.1(2). I was used to work with Symantec BackupExec (Ghost like image) on CallManager running 4.X but for the moment there is no equivalent for callmanager 5.X
Does anyone have already perform this kind of backup ? Which software can i use for this purpose ?
    Thanks a lot.
    Julien.

    Hi
You don't have the option to install agents on the Linux platform, and you probably won't get remote instigated backups to run as they will not be able to get file system access.
CallManager can kick out a backup on a schedule (configured from CCMAdmin, use the drop down menu on the top right and select 'Disaster Recovery'). This backup is output to an SFTP destination, and from there you can back it up using your standard backup software.
If you need to rebuild the server, you can do so with the DVD and this backup if it's the publisher (it's reasonably fast).

  • What program will work with SFTP backup program in 5.0(4)?

Who know how to backup the data from CM5.0(4) server to remote host via SFTP progarm?? The CM does not include a backup tape system, the CM only allow backup the data to remote side with SFTP. We had tried shareware from internet, but it does not work.
No availiable SFTP program from Cisco site is free for download.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Michael,
    Have you seen this info from the release notes for CCM 5.0(4);
Some Cisco Unified CallManager services, such as CDR, DRF, and DMA, require a separate FTP or SFTP server. The following FTP server programs have been tested with Cisco Unified CallManager 5.0.
Openssh Server by Red Hat, Inc., Version 3.6.1p2, Release 33.30.4
Cygwin SFTP Server, Version 2.457.2.2 with cygwin.dll Version, 1.5.16
War FTP Daemon Version 1.82, by Jgaa's Freeware on Microsoft Windows server
FTP Publishing Service in Microsoft Internet Information Server 5.0, Version 1.0 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

  • CUCM Group Configuration- question about phones failing to secondary callmanager

I wanted to get clarification about how exactly phones will register to the secondary or tertiary servers if the link to the primary fails.
I have a 3 server CUCM cluster.  1 subscriber that some phones register to is separated from the other 2.
When the link to that sub goes down, the phone should then register to the secondary server of its Cisco Unified CallManager Group configuration, correct?
If this is true, then my next question is how long does it take to then failover to the secondary server?
SRST is not involved in this, it's just the CUCM Group Config.  Any help clarifying how phones behave in this situation?

I found my own answer in the Cisco Press Troubleshooting Cisco IP Telephony book, page 155:
"The TFTP configuration file received by the IP phone has a list of up to three CallManagers
for registration purposes. The order of CallManagers indicates their priority. The first is the
highest-priority CallManager for the IP phone. It is the first place the IP phone attempts to
register. The highest-priority CallManager is also called the primary CallManager.
When the IP phone registers with its primary CallManager, it also establishes a standby
TCP connection to the next-highest–priority available CallManager, sometimes called the
standby CallManager, secondary CallManager, or backup CallManager.
The IP phone knows that there is an alternative CallManager for quick failover if it loses connectivity
    with its primary CallManager.
At any given point in time, the CallManager to which the phone is registered is its active
connection. The CallManager node that has a standby TCP connection for the IP phone is
    the standby connection.
    Failover occurs under two conditions:
    • If the TCP connection between the IP phone and the primary CallManager goes down.
Incidentally, stopping the CallManager service on a server causes all the TCP connections
to be closed and all the IP phones on that server to register to their standby.
    • If CallManager has not responded to three consecutive KeepAlive messages sent from
    the IP phone.
Any number of network-related issues could cause the TCP connection to go down. When
the IP phone registers with its standby CallManager, it registers with an alarm indicating
    why it failed over.
Under the second condition, CallManager fails to respond to three consecutive KeepAlives.
The IP phone sends a KeepAlive message every 30 seconds by default. CallManager should
answer each KeepAlive the IP phone sends with an acknowledgment message. If
CallManager fails to respond to three consecutive KeepAlive messages, the IP phone marks
the connection as “bad.” The IP phone does not tear down the TCP connection, but it does
not attempt to re-register with the “bad” CallManager either. It continues sending
KeepAlive messages to the “bad” CallManager until CallManager tears down the TCP
connection. This delay gives CallManager time to respond if it recovers quickly. After 10
minutes, the IP phone removes the “bad” tag and again tries to establish communication
with CallManager using KeepAlive messages in the process just described. During this
time, the IP phone attempts to establish a connection with its secondary CallManager (or
its tertiary if the secondary is not available) and registers if possible.
If a call is in progress when an IP phone detects the loss of a TCP connection, the IP phone
does not fail over until the call is finished. If CallManager fails to respond to three consecutive
KeepAlive messages while an IP phone has an active call, the IP phone again waits
until the call is finished before registering to its standby CallManager."
Hope that helps someone else in the future.

  • Migrating from single processor to dual processor Callmanager

    Hi Networkers,
had anyone install a Callmanager 4.1 dual processor version of CM4.1-K9-X345D= before in a single CPU in a dual processor capable server before.
Can it work in the first place?
Had anyone successfully migrate it to a dual-processor later on?

I dont think there is any difference in Callmanager software for a dual processor versus single processor server. For 7845 (dual processor) the hardware detection disks may be different from the one for single processor (7825, 7835)
Migrating from one to another is as easy as taking a BARS backup from one server, build the other server to the same version and restore it. (Make sure server name and ip are the same for both servers)

  • CUCM - Supported Backup method

    Hi !
What are the VMware backup supported by CUCM and other collaborative applications. In doc-wiki it's mentioned till CUCM 10.0 only .
Any other document which will officially confirm that whether it will support or not ?
    Thanks in Advance !!!

    Hi,
For UC applications, vm snapshots are not supported and the only supported backup method for CUCM is DRF backup. VM snapshots might lead to performance issues. You could refer below document for more details.

  • What to have for disaster recovery? Full backup?

What do we need to have? In case of we lose everything what to backup from where? There is an BART system I think in 4.1 does it enough for full system recovery? Or do we also need to export users from BAT->export ? Why are they seperate? (ps. I talk about 4.1)
    thx

    Hi Okan,
    The Utility you are referring to is called BARS (Backup and Restore) and is the data you need for Disaster Recovery/CCM Rebuilds. You will not need the Bat-Export as all the phone details etc are captured in a .tar file during BARS Backup;
The following list shows the data that is backed up and restored for the Cisco CallManager publisher database:
    Hosts and LMhosts files
    Latest Cisco CallManager publisher database
    DC Directory LDAP directory
    For Cisco CallManager 3.3.x DirectoryConfiguration.ini from C:\dcdsrvr.
For Cisco CallManager 4.0(x) or later UMDirectoryConfiguration.ini.
    Directory schema files avvid_schemaV*.txt
Publisher and subscriber configuration information to replication.ini file.
Cisco CallManager version to version.ini file.
If the option to backup CDR is chosen, CDR database and CDR/CMR flat files from Local CDR Path
TFTP files from C:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath (the default path)
TFTP files from alternate file locations
Cisco Bulk Administration Tool (BAT) files-templates from C:\CiscoWebs\BAT, CSV files from C:\BAT and the BATversion.asp file.
    HKLM\Software\Cisco Systems, Inc. (registry keys)
    Cisco CallManager DSN
Security files (certificates) from under C:\Program Files\Cisco\Certificates. This applies only to Cisco CallManager 4.x or later.
    LDAPConfig.ini for IPMA configuration.
    Here is a good doc that has all the info for doing Backups and then restoring on the new box;

  • Restore UCCX without CallManager on network

I am attempting to create a test install of my UCCX Expres 7.0(1) SR4.
I have gotten the software installed to my server, and am attempting the restore.  However, the restore fails, because the new test server is NOT on the production network (which has CallManager).
Is it possible to restore UCCX data WITHOUT having a connection to CallManager available from the new server?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
For both backup and restore the Call manager needs to be up and running and uccx should be able to reach CUCM.
If not, you can run into bigs like this below.
CSCsl87631    Unable  to contact Call Manager. PERMISSION_DENIED_ERROR: 1219
CSCsi10073    Restore  fails Call Manager Not in the Network
So, its very necessary for CM to be on the network.
    Thanks
    Ankita

  • Callmanager 3.3(5), H323 gateways not rolling over

Outbound calls are not overflowing from one PRI on one h323 gateway to another. Once all 23 channels are used, I get a busy tone.
I have two h323 gateways. Both are cisco 3725 routers and each has a PRI on it. Each H323 is in theri own route group. And the Route-List contains only these two Route-groups. So it's a pure h323 route-list.
I have tried reversing the order to verify that outbound calls work on both PRI and they do.
I opened a case with cisco and mentioned changing the service parameter of "Stop routing on user busy flag" from true to false. We did that and it's still not working.
Wondering if anyone is having the same experience or have any ideas.

This looks like a pretty old post but this has bitten me once before and there is a fix.  In CUCM Service Parameters under Cisco Callmanager Active/ Clusterwide Parameters/Route Plan - Change
"Stop Routing on Unallocated Number Flag" and "Stop Routing on User Busy Flag" to False.  This will allow H323 gateways and SIP Trunks to advance to the next Gateway or Trunk in the Route Group/Route List.  If it is set to True the backup Gateways and or SIP Trunks will never be used.
    Thanks.

  • Callmanager Upgrade Question

    Upgrading from 4.0(2) to 4.1(3).
The actual Callamanager(2pub and 2 Sub) is running on an old Hardware. We puchased new servers to install the CCM 4.1(3). Question is How to Upgrade and keep all Config of CCM 4.0(2)(phones,users...etc). Will it go like this:
1- Install CCM 4.0(2) on the New Servers
2- Run BARS Restore (assuming a Backup of CCM 4.0(2) is already taken of the old Hardware)
    3- Upgrade Callmanager to 4.1(3)
Am i missing something? how about service releases...etc?
The DOc i found on Cisco is only relating to an Upgrade without Hardware Change.

  • CallManager Service Restarts

    Greetings,
We have a CallManager running 4.1.3(sr3a). About 1-2 times a week the CallManager Service restarts. At first I thought this was occurring at the same time as backups, but I have since discovered that is not the case.
We have noticed this for more than one customer running different versions of CallManager. It is usually occurs after hours, and most of the time it is not occuring at the same time as backups.
The last time this occurred there were a lot of transient connections events in the app log, and then the last entry before restaring in the event log is SDL error for connectivity to the sub. (also this appears to happen on the pubs).
    Any ideas?

    Which server model?
    Available memory?
