Camcorder compatible with mac

I am going to buy a new camcorder and was wondering if anyone could recommend any that is compatible with macs. I was looking at the Sony handycam CXR105E. Any ideas anyone?

Sorry, I posted too hastily!
As you are posting in the iMovie 6 forum I assume that is what you want to use to edit the video from the camera - it is not much 'compatibility with a Mac' that is the issue, it is more compatibility with the editing software you will be using.
As far as iMovie 6 is concerned it has to be a camera producing DV from tape and connected via firewire.
Post back if that didn't answer your question!

  • Why isnt my new sony camcorder compatible with mac?

just bouught a new sony camcorder 1080p model HDR-CX110 and i recorded a video and took a couple photos,i started reading the manual and it says the enclosed softeare is not compatible with mac, they gave a website for mac users to go to for help, on the site it states that only still images can be transfered to a mac. Sure enough i pluged it n and only the stills show up,not the video. What do i do?am i screwed?

Return the camcorder and purchase one that is Mac compatible.  Simple as that!

  • HD Camcorder Compatible with Mac?

I am planning on purchasing a MacBook. I am also planning on purchasing an HD Camcorder, and I want to make sure that it will be compatible with Mac Software. I have read that when transfering videos onto a Mac, sometimes video quality is lost.
Does anyone know if this is true, or if there is any way I can avoid losing quality. Are there any particular camera makes/models that are better for Macs?

Most any of the newer HD camcorders should work fine with iMovie. Any of them listed here will work.

  • External Camcorder compatible with Mac?

Wasn't sure where to post this..
I'm looking for an external camcorder that is compatible with my computer. I'm looking to do some live streaming and want it to be HD as well. Not looking to spend an arm and a leg!
Any of you MacBook wizards out there offer any suggestions to this newbie of a Mac user! =)

    what's an external camcorder, (waterproof)?
    what application are you using?

  • A good High Definition camcorder that is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5?

ok, i need to find a good HD camcorder for my macbook pro which uses imovie 08, but i am using imovie HD 6. my budget is around $250 and i am willing to purchase on ebay. i recently bought an HD camera off ebay for $130, it was good but i found out later it wasn't compatible with MAC! so, i need a little bit of help from anyone who knows anything about ebay, hd cameras, and mac support.
and one more question, is the Aiptek hd camera supporting Mac? - because is records in HD .MOV format which is mac format. (quicktime).

Those little Aiptek things, though supposedly shooting in hi-def, use high compression which iMovie HD 6 just can't deal with. If you buy one of those, you'll have to run the video through other programs first in order to make it compatible with iMovie 6.
They usually record in something like 720p ('progressive') mode, which iMovie generally doesn't like: it expects to receive normal i ('interlaced') video ..the kind which standard-def broadcast television generally uses.
A hi-def picture needs to be nice and stable for you to get the best out of it - otherwise it's just as much a wobbly blur as standard-def. So for good results you want a camera which has an image stabiliser built in. I don't think the cheap'n'cheerful Aipteks do.
Even though the Product Description may say "..A-HD is your 720p HD Camcorder, Digital Camera, and Personal Media Player/Recorder! Captures true to life, vibrant colors and astonishing High Definition images like you've never seen, right in the palm of your hand.." ..that's just advertising blurb or twaddle, of course. Who says that these are images "..like you've never seen.."? ..If you have already seen images from a JVC, Sony, Canon or other decent brand hi-def camcorder, then those from the Aiptek camcorders are pretty disappointing. But no advertiser is going to spend money to say "..images far more disappointing that those of other camcorders.." ..are they?
So - as Karsten suggests - you should be looking for an HDV hi-def camcorder on eBay.
P.S: You wrote "..records in HD .MOV format which is mac format. (quicktime).." ..but several QuickTime formats - although they do play in QuickTime Player - won't work properly within iMovie (e.g; sound or picture may be missing). Such formats need to be converted into another .mov, or .DV format before trying to use them in iMovie.

  • Is a Sony camcorder High Def model SR11 compatible with Mac?

Now I have another question...I just bought a Sony camcorder HD SR11 (High Definition)...via email through BestBuy and I was told that I would not be able to import my movies to my IMac using iMovie because Sony's software does not support Mac so they told me to buy Adobe Premier Elements 4.....so I did..I have not tried it yet because I have not received the camcorder but I do not want to open it and pay a restocking fee if it is not going to work.....Is it going to work or should I just exchange the camcorder for another one that is compatible with Mac...and if so any brands I should keep in mind??????

i too just bought this camera.
iMovie doesn't see the camera? everyone on these forums says it does though, any ideas why mine wouldn't. I'm not really familiar with iMovie as i use FCP but... " command i" should recognize the camera should it not. it's in USB mode on the camera.
    iMovie 8 updated latest
Dual Quad Core 3 Ghz Intel
also running FCP Studio2 which doesn't recognize usb cameras
i thought buying a hard drive camcorder would eliminate the hassle of tape. so far not so good!!!

  • Sony HDR-SR1 compatible with mac?

I just bought the new sony handycam HD camcorder with the built in hard drive but was shocked to find that it did not come with software for Mac. Fortunately, I have an old windows machine so I installed the the software necessary to import the videos from my camcorder onto my PC. However, I do not want to use my windows anymore. Does anyone know if sony camcorders just aren't compatible with macs or is there some way for me to import my videos directly onto my apple?

Have a look, via Google, for converters to change the .mts video format into something compatible with DV. You may have to run the converter software on your PC, as I can find only a Linux (not Mac) converter, and some PC software. Having converted it to DV format, you'd have to copy the resultant file(s) to your Mac ..probably by plugging in an external hard disc to first one and then the other. Cumbersome, I know.
There is no support for the AVCHD format - as Kirk says - in iMovie at present. We'll have to wait and see what iMovie HD 7 brings. But that should be quite soon..

You need Snow Leopard at least.
MacBook upgrade possibilities - https://discussions.apple.com/message/19577869 - "The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard. The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion. • External Hard Drive Compatible with Mac and Windows?

So my old laptop is a Dell Latitude and I bought a Western Digital external hard drive and put all my files/pics/music on it. The information the WD came with said its compatible with Mac and Windows, but when I plug it into my brand spankin new Macbook, it doesn't register with the computer and won't show up. What's going on?

I recently ran into that problem. In order to have the hard drive compatible for both PC and Mac it must be in a FAT32 format. In order to do this though all your files will be deleted (in order to reformat). You can do this by plugging in the hard drive into you mac and going under disk utility and there you will find your hard drive and under erase change the format to FAT32 and then you press erase (all will be deleted off the external drive though)

Do you have an Adobe Digital Editions which is compatible with Mac Os 10.6.8? The current version which I downloaded requires 10.8 and would not work on my computer.

Try the ADE 2.0.1 from http://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions/downloads.html

  • USB-to-VGA adapter compatible with Mac?

    Hi,
I'm trying to hook up an additional external monitor to my MacBook Pro using a USB-to-VGA adapter. I don't need any kind of graphics acceleration.
Here is the type of adapter I'm looking at:
    http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&Item=GUC2015V
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812203013
Apparently some have gotten the 2nd one to work on Linux with the sisusb driver. Does anybody know if this is compatible with Mac OS X?
    Thank you!
    MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory

Your Mac came with a DVI to VGA adapter. Why do you need a USB one, when the DVI one is faster and more reliable?
    Note the specs:

If yours was missing the adapter which is shown "In the box", call AppleCare to ask a replacement be sent.

  • Is the LG 22EN33S-B 22-inch LED 1920 x 1080 VGA Monitor compatible with mac via a vga to thunderbolt connection

Is the LG 22EN33S-B 22-inch LED 1920 x 1080 VGA Monitor compatible with mac via a vga to thunderbolt adapter?

The 1080p and 1080i options only appear on the HDMI display settings, the display settings for the thunderbolt to vga adaptor has 1920 x 1080.
Via the HDMI output of the Mini via an HDMI cable to a HDMI input on the Samsung the display fills the screen but the text looks vile.
The options for picture adjustement on the samsung include fill screen as you suggest
Using the thunderbolt to VGA adaptor the text looks as it should, crisp and clear but the display is shitfted to the right.
The options for picture adjustment on the Samsung does not have the 'fill screen' option available when the VGA input is selected. However a new option called 'pc screen adjustment' appears and you can nudge the display over to the left a bit but not enough to cover the whole screen.
I remind you the pc worked perfectly 1920 x 1080 on the same VGA cable and input to the samsung.
