Camcorder not working

I got a new Powermac G5 and I followed the directions to hook up my DV camera to my computer. It is a Canon z65, however I am not getting the message that the VTR is ok. I don't know what I did wrong, but it won't recognize it. Does anyone know what setting it should be on??

1. make sure the camera is set to VTR
2. turn on the camera BEFORE you boot your computer.
3. make sure your firewire communication protocol is set to FIREWIRE BASIC
4. make sure there is no other firewire device (hard drives, etc) connected to the computer.
Does it work with iMovie?
If none of the above help, but you can capture with iMovie, you probably need to re-install Quicktime.
To do a full quicktime reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
Reboot
Good luck.

  • Panasonic Camcorder not working in iMovie 11

Hi. I bought a new Panasonic X900M Camcorder which is supposed to work in iMovie 11. When I connect the camcorder to my iMac (OSX10.7.5), iPhoto pops up for some reason and then the rolling ball shows. I do a force quit. I would have thought that iMovie 11 would automatically open. I have to manually open iMovie up but when I try to import anything, it too shows the rolling ball. When I connect the camcorder, a file opens up on the desktop but inside it are just a few video clips and photos. Most of my video work doesn't even show. And I can't drag and drop the few that are there, to iMovie.
Any thoughts about this? I have used the old iMovie HD for years and found it very easy to use with my old DV camcorder. This new camcorder and new iMovie has me wondering.
    Thanks!
    Richard

iMovie can import 30P and 30i and 60i from this camcorder. If the camcorder shoots 60P AVCHD, iMovie cannot import the 60P clips. Also, iMovie will not know how to handle 3D clips.
You can use Final Cut Pro X, which can import 60P. You can also get a third party converter like ClipWrap or Voltaic to process the 60P clips into an h.264 MOV format that iMovie can handle.
Going forwade, set your camcorder to 30P for best results. If you shoot a lot of slow motion, then it may be worth investing in Final Cut Pro, ClipWrap, or Voltaic.

  • Camera/Camcorder not working since update

    Thanks in advance.
Since the update neither my camera or camcorder works. At first I was having problems with the camcorder "recording"  but then when I would try to watch the video it would say  "File cannot be displayed or played"  now the camcorder screen freezes up as soon as I turn it on, and the camera at first would take a picture sometimes, but now the screen is just black. I also get warnings about my SD card consistently also. I have taken out the battery several times, this does not help at all. This is so frustrating. Please help!

    Hello LoYo1979,
Thank you for sharing your issue with your Droid X. I noticed that Cody21 provided some specific instructions, thanks Cody21. Have those steps worked for you? If not then the next step would be a factory data reset. I have provided a link on how to complete a factory data reset on the Droid X.
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=33552
Prior to completing a factory data reset, I recommend verifying that your contacts are saved, either on your Gmail account or backup assistant. Once the reset has been done successfully, the device would need to be reactivated and re-setup. After this process is completed, try the stock camera and camcorder. If you are able to record a video then the next step would be to play the video to ensure that the media functionality works.
Let me know if this works for you.

  • Panasonic Camcorder not working

I have connected my Panasonic NV-GS5 to my Mac Notebook with the firewire Cable. Unfortunately nothing happens. It doesn't start automatically as the tutorial says. It looks as if the camcorder is not being recognised. Can anyone help? I'm not sure what to try.

Sandy, It sounds as if you've plugged in a USB cable (..which gives access to the card which has photos on it..) instead of a 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire/DV/i.Link cable ..which gives access to the video on the tape. (The FireWire cable probably did NOT come with the camera, and you may need to buy one.)
The ends of a USB cable, for feeding photos into your Mac, look like this:
The ends of the necessary 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire (..also known as DV or i.Link..) cable for feeding video into your Mac look like this:
The big end goes in your Mac, and the small end plugs into the 'DV' socket of your camcorder.

  • Win Media Encoder on VMWare - Video Devices does not work!!! MBP 15"

    Hi,
Im trying to setup Windows Media Encoder (9 series) through Windows XP (SP3 Virtualized on VMWare 2.0.5) to make a live webcast event on internet, but my Macbook Pro can't recognize my camcorder (Sony HVRA1)
I want to setup an live webcast event but when I use an Intel Windows native computer (as I have been doing) all works gook.
I've get a new Macbook Pro 2.53GHz 15" (aluminium) and I just cant make it work on Windows Media Encoder. The camcorder just doest exist inside Windows.
First thing I've done was try to find a Win Media Encoder for Mac, but I havent found any. Only converters but they not work with live events.
I could try others encoders but Im already on a server which just run Windows.
Any tips how to make it work?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi lgmmachado,
Presumably you connect the camcorder to the MBP using Firewire?
As far as I am aware one cannot access directly from a Virtual Machine a Firewire Port as it is not virtualised and no virtualisation software that I know of works directly with Firewire. I may be wrong here as I've never had the need to do so.
You would have to install BootCamp, then install Windows and then start up your Mac directly from the BootCamp/Windows partition to directly access the Firewire port from within Windows.

  • Help on purchasing a dvd camcorder to work with imovie

hello out there...was wondering which camcorder that has a dvd burner works best with imovie and osx...i want a sony, but i thought the small dvd's did not work on osx. presently, i have a digital8 and use a firewire connection to ingest video for editing with imovie. thanks for any help...

... boxes that holds DVD and hard drive recorders:
These files are intended for "one time" captures.
The file format is not intended for editing.
I totally agree with your recommendation: try to avoid DVD and harddisk camcorders at this point if you plan to edit on a Mac. Not only is software support seriously lacking, those Mini-DVDs don't even work with slot-loading drives that are common on Mac's.
But... there is nothing wrong with the MPEG-2 compression used on DVDs. Just look at HDV: It uses the same MPEG-2 compression to fit the the HD video into the space of a SD MiniDV tape. iMovie converts HDV video streams during capture into a format that is easier for editing - that's why the files on your harddisk are 4 times as big as the data on the tape. The quality of video captured by most consumer camcorders is more limited by the optics and the video sensor (in particular indoors, with less than perfect lighting), than the recording format and media. And yes, you can edit MPEG-2 just fine, it is just more challenging to get it working right.
I used to tell all my friends to stay away from DVD camcorders, too, but then broke down and very reluctantly bought a DVD camcorder recently. It's mainly used for recording music lessons, with instant and repeated replay. It took me some tinkering to work out a good workflow for editing with iMove. I did some side-by-side comparisons with a similarly priced MiniDV camcorder (Canon DC50 vs. Sony TRV-33). Overall, the video clips were almost identical from either camcorder, with the DVD camcorder producing slightly better video in some situations. But as I said in the beginning, that is probably mostly a result of the better video sensor and the optical image stabilization in this particular model.
So how does my workflow go:
    - Use DVD-RWs, formatted in Video-VR mode, and prefinalized. This allows
you to pop out the DVD from the camcorder at any time and immediately
use it in your DVD player or computer without another time-consuming
    finalization step.
    - Find a Windows PC to copy the video files from the DVD to my Mac.
Mac OSX cannot read the filesystem used by Video-VR discs without
additional software like Roxio's Toast (which I don't have). Besides, all
    my Macs are slot loading.
    - Convert the clip with the Quicktime MPEG-2 plugin and MPEG Streamclip
    to DV format.
    - Finally, import the clips into iMovie.
Workable yes, but neither convenient nor esay. Stick with MiniDV.

  • Panasonic .MOV files only play audio no video in Premiere Elements 11??? Not Working Help

Panasonic .MOV files only play audio no video in Premiere Elements 11??? Not Working Help

It all depends on the codec the file uses, Karli.
What model of camcorder is this video coming from?
Are you working on a Mac or a PC? Have you got the latest version of Quicktime, per the program requirements? When you started your project, did you select the settings for a DSLR at 720p? This is a vital step since it will activate the components your computer will need to work with many of these types of files.
    BY THE WAY, KARLI--

  • I have iMovie '11, and I am unable to access mpeg HD video files that I want to edit.  The files are fine (I can open and watch them using VLC), but I cannot seem to import the files into iMovie. File Import does not work.  Any suggestions??

More detail: I have a bunch of mpeg HD video files that were shot on a SONY HDR-HC3 Handycam camcorder.  I would like to edit these into a single video production.  I can access and view the mpeg files using VLC (Quicktime does not work with them).  However, I seem to be unable to get the mpeg files to interface with iMovie '11 -- I cannot use the File --> Import command, nor can I drag-and-drop them into iMovie.
Is there something anyone might suggest to get this to work?  Or are these files incompatible with iMovie?  If so, I assume I must purchase a different video editing software program (e.g. Adobe Premeir Pro).  Suggestions???
Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration

Yes, I tried that.   The files were ordered by their original numbers as imported from the camera, but I batched them through Phocoshop to downsize all of them into a more manageable file size.   I opened that destination folder from quick time  from where it said select image sequence.   I clicked on the first one and opened it.   The result was a large image with an arrow indicating a movie was ready to go.   When I pressed the arrow, though, I realized it had only imported that one frame so there was no movie.   The files are Jpgs and are about 450 KB each.
To your knowledge are there any links to iMovie tutorials or quick time tutorials that may address this situation?  Maybe there will be one I haven't looked at yet.
        Thanks

  • IMac firewire port is not working

iMac firewire port is not working
    Hi everybody, Happy New Year.
I am a 72 years old semi-newbie in video editing, because Iedit only 1 or may be 2 movies a year since 2007 and I have only very little computer knowledge.
I received a new 27” iMac as a birthday gift 14 months ago.  About 10 months ago, with help, I successfully use the Migration Assistant to transfer some datas from my old power G4 to the iMac including two Final Cut Express projects.  I had one project successfully done; burned to DVD and I save it with Print To Video. Last week, I have my second project done, I burned the sequences into DVD but unable to do a Print To Videodue to the iMac is not communicating with my Sony camcorders DCR VX1000, this is the same camcorder I used on the last job which was working a couple of months ago.As a result, I try to switch the Easy Setup with different Format and different Use; I refresh the Canvas window; I did a Mix down; move the Screen Saver to NEVER as well as the Energy Saver set to NEVER SLEEP.  I also trashed the preferences (plist) folders; run the Utility repair, I replaced the firewire cable (4 pines – 9 pines 800), but nothing work.  Up to this point, I think that there is no signal from the firewire port to the camcorder because I understand when the sequences is ready, the firewire is connected between the computer and the recording camcorder, the Print to Video is activated, then the word DV- IN should be seen on the recording deck screen. This time, I don’tread such words on the recording screen. Therefore, I think there’s no out going signal from the iMac to the recording camcorder and the iMac is not receiving signal from the recording camcorder. At this point, I try to connect my iMac to the power G4 to see if I can do some data transfer. Follow the procedures, I hook up the data transfer cable between the G4 and the iMac, I can the fireswire icon moving on the G4 screen but no indication on the iMac screen (there should be some indications in the source bar), this shows me the iMac did not recognize the G4 which worked on previous data transfer.  It looks to me the firewire port on my iMac is dead.  What has gone wrong? Could I accidentally disabled the firewire port by some magic keystroke? (i.e. accidentally fat finger some thing to make it stop working?  Oh, by the way, during the playing around, went to the Final Cut tool bar, I click the View >Video Out > Digital Cinema Desktop Preview – Main, the result was a  black screen and the esc key was my rescuer - LUCKY LUCKY! Are there any other trouble-shooting techniques to apply before bringing to shop?  Please help!
Sorry for such a long statement, forgive me for unable to make it shorter.  Thank you for your patience. Thanks to all the folks in this board for being so helpful.
    p.s.

    Not sounding good.
If the system Profiler does not see it then there is a basic communication problem between camera and the Mac.
I'm thinking the Firewire port is the culprit as some 800 ports were faulty.
I'd suggest taking the Mac, cable and camera to your nearest Authorized Apple Service Centre and get them to diagnose the issue. eg. let them try to connect the two devices.
Right (control)click the Sequence icon in the Browser and select Item Properties, do the same for a clip.
You can also post screen shots for the Properties.

  • Isight firewire cam not working in iChat on Leopard.

After installing Leopard on my Powerbook G4 867 dvi, my Isight Firewire Cam is not working anymore
    in Ichat on Leopard.
Any solutions, it worked fine under Tiger.
Isight firewire cam works fine wirh Skype, Amsn , Photobooth and Quicktime.

Alright. I've done quite a bit of testing now.
My system is (as stated below,) a 12" PowerBook G4, 867 MHz, 640 MB RAM, 40 GB hard drive, Combo drive, AirPort Extreme. It was purchased in Summer 2003, and while the OS has been reloaded, it hasn't been for a long time, and at present, the OS was an install of Jaguar that was upgraded to Panther to Tigard, finally to Leopard.
I was experiencing the issue mentioned. In my case, I use a FireWire miniDV camcorder for video in iChat. It has worked fine in the iChat AV beta in Jaguar, and iChat AV in Panther and Tiger.
Upon upgrading to Leopard, I get the "Slow Network" explanation for why I cannot use video (or hosting multiperson audio, or screen sharing.)
    My research shows the following:
This occurs both on the upgraded install, and a fresh install. (To an external hard drive.)
Using Ecamm's PowerBoost allows me to use every option that isn't barred outright by lack of hardware (video effects.) This includes both "Slow Network" issues and "Insufficient CPU" issues (essentially just multiperson video.)
So my guess is that the "Slow Network" is indeed a "bug", and will be fixed by an update from Apple.

  • Camcorders that do not work in Premiere Elements 9

I would like to compile a list of camcorders that people are not getting to work in Premiere Elements 9.
I ONLY WANT TO HEAR FROM THOSE WHO ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH A PARTICULAR CAMCORDER AND PREMIERE ELEMENTS 9.
I just want to list the camcorder make and model to see what camcorders are not working in the program. I am not looking for help and for those who are having problems you need to post a new thread about them.
I would like to use this list so those that have a specific camcorder will be able to see if others have had problems with getting the same model to work with the program.
PLEASE DO NOT POST HERE WITH TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS OR TO QUESTION WHY I AM DOING THIS, ONLY POST WITH CAMCORDER MODEL AND BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM.
I have not been able to get the Genius G-Shot HD520 to work with Premiere Elements 9, video just does not show when capturing or importing.

    Hi Adobe-annoyed people
I recently installed PE9 but only tried to use today. For downloading, I have a couple of older Panasonic NV-DS60's. Neither of these camcorders worked and I thought it was a problem with the way I downloaded the software. But I get a driver error and a message informing me that camcorders used with PE9 must be capable of streaming video. Therefore I cannot load any video onto PE9 at all, so buying it was Adobe mistake No.3!!
I have uninstalled PE9 and re-installed PE7, which, although constantly crashing, at least allowed video to be downloaded. Anyone want a new version of PE9? It's as-yet unregistered.

  • Problems transferring my mini DV tapes to Imovie.  Slow and not working correctly

I have an older Mac Book (early 2008) and I am transferring my mini DV tapes to Imovie.  I borrowed a camcorder from my brother and have been importing the videos over the course of a few days.  Although I have plenty of storage, every command I made would take 5-10 minutes.  When the downloads were complete, I noticed the video either didn't come out (1 second clips) or they didn't come out well at all (screeching sounds, skipping, etc.) even though when I played the tapes on the camcorder, they worked fine.
I am in the process of improving my RAM from 2 GB to 4 but it's not fixing the problems I'm having with the transferring of the video tapes.
I want to manipulate these videos in Imovie (of my kids when they were babies) so i can create a mini-movie out of them.

Scene detection normally works, so there must be something going on with you old camera.
I have a bunch of old analog 8MM tapes that I imported through a DV 8MM Digital camera. These all came in as 1 long clip.
It is true you can delete a frame and then use iMovie to split the events. However, I have found a much quicker way that is non-destructive and allows you to enter the date metadata.
    1) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. You can google it.
    2) Drag your long clip into MPEG Streamclip. (If you don't know where it is, Right-click on the clip in the imovie event and select "Reveal in FInder".
    3) Think if dividing your long clip into Events (everything you shot on a single day, for example) - and Scenes (clips) - an individual unit of footage within the Event.
    4) Move the MPEG Streamclip playhead to the beginning of the 1st scene and press I for in point. Movie the Playhead to the last frame of the scene and press O for out point.
    5) Now, FILE/EXPORT TO DV. Save it to a location you can easily find, like a folder on your desktop. Give it name in the following format: clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.dv This will preserve the time metadata for later when you are editing. You may want to have your camera handy so you can easily see this data.
    6) Repeat this process until you have all clips done. You should find that the playhead is still at the out point. You can simply type I and you have set the in point for a totally nondestructive capture of the next clip.
    7) Finally, open iMovie and use FILE/IMPORT/MOVIES... and navigate to the place where you saved all these clips. iMovie will import and sort into Events (you may have to check "split days into new events". Let it generate thumbnails and you are done.

  • DVDs created in Elements 8 do not work on standalone players

    Hi,
I've been using Elements 7 on Windows 7 before Elements 8 was released.
The source of video is a SD HDD-camcorder and for all the projects I created 4.7 gb dvd-folders, then using a seperate dvd-writing software to burn to discs.
Now since Elements 7 wasn't officially supported I upgraded to Elements 8, but the problem is that the dvds created - although same workflow, do not work on standalone dvd players.
Now, the source is the same, I've tried diffrent dvd-media (dvd+r, dvd-r) and diffrent software for writing dvds, and i've tried four diffrent dvd players and only one player is able to playback the elements 8 dvds.
The dvds are of the type Autoplay-dvd.
I assume given these combinations i've tried - the process of compiling a dvd has changed in Elements 8 as compared to Elements 7 which then outputs less compatible dvd-folders.
Googling around on the term "Opendvd" i found a concept of DVD-V and DVD-R and a knowledge base article on Microsoft hinted that these are diffrent modes of dvd-video or something and I'm wondering if this might be the reason - regardless of it, i've no idea how to fix it so i really need help on solving this issue,
    hope somebody can help.

Okay, I took an even more systematic approach to this problem yesterday,
here's what i did (all burning done in cdburnxp),
    1. using a dvd+rw disc i burned an older dvd-folder which i knew worked - worked fine in player, this was just to confirm that the player could indeed play back dvd+rw/media.
    2. using the same disc i burned a dvd-folder which was created in elements7 - it worked.
    3. using the same disc i encoded a project created in elements 7 loaded in elements 8 - it worked
    4. using the same disc - i tried once again tried to create a new project added one old video file too see if there might be something wrong with the source video.
At this point i also did some research using the Get Media Info option in premiere, and the framerate for the same file was reported as 29,97 and 25 depending on where on the harddrive i tested it - might be because premiere adds some metadata to it.
    5. using the same disc - i reencoded an elements 8 project which didn't work on standalone players, burned the dvd folder - it worked
At this point i was thinking, okay, maybe the Media I did use orignally wasn't compatible, so i gave it another shot in #6 and #7.
    6. Using a dvd-r i burned the image from step #5 -burned at 16x - it worked.
    7. Using a dvd+r I burned the image from step #5 - burned at 16x - it also worked!
Now the confusion is complete for my part - and I can not find any conclusive reason for the misbehaviour orignally reported.
Seems like either Premiere Elements or the media was having a bad hair day when I originally reported this problem.

  • Satellite M45-S331 - iLink Port not Working

My Toshiba Satellite M45-S331's iLink port is not working. I am trying to stream high quality video from my Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV350 to my laptop, but the laptop does not read the camcorder when using the iLink cable. The cable is fine because my father's laptop can read the camcorder using the same cable. I went to device manager and it says that the IEEE 1394 Bus host controller is working, yet it won't read the camera. The laptop reads it just fine using USB. I contacted Sony and they told me to uninstall and reinstall the iLink capture card, but I am not completely sure how to do that or if it will even work. Has anybody else had similar problems, and if so how was it solved (if it was ever solved)? Thanks for any feedback.

    Satellite M45-S331
they told me to uninstall and reinstall the iLink capture card, but I am not completely sure how to do that
Do it this way. In Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), right-click the 1394 Host Controller, and click Uninstall. Reboot Windows to reinstall it.
I too don't know whether that will solve the problem.

  • Help Needed With "Extend Marker" Function Not Working

I have several Clips and used the "DV Start/Stop Detect" function to find the time code breaks, which seems to work well. I've now got a clip full of Segment markers.
The problem arises when I try to use Extent Markers "Option + `" to make subclips. When I put the play head on a subsequent marker, the Marker/Extend function is grayed out.
Extending a marker that I have created using the M key works perfectly.
Why can I not use the Extend function on Segment Markers?
Any help on this is greatly appreciated. I have 30 odd clips that I need to set up segments for, and doing it manually will add hours to my workload.
    Thanks
    Gary
Dual G5 2.5 GHz Dual Core, 2.5 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Final Cut Studio FCP 5.0.4

    Thanks for the reply.
I am completely aware of items 1 through 3, and never Extend markers in the Timeline. Only the Viewer.
To perform an Extend Marker and avoid headaches, load the captured clip - the one with the video icon in the Browser - into the Viewer. Then, as you scrub along in the Viewer, Option-` as needed.
That is precisely what I am doing.
To Extend the marker I first double click the clip to load the entire clip into the Viewer, where all the Section markers are displayed. I then check Mark>Markers>Extend and the function is grayed out. However, if I move the playhead one frame prior to the Section marker, the previous Section marker extends to the frame prior to the new play head position.
If I do this with manually entered markers (using the M key, creating Marker 1, 2, 3.... in sequence on the Viewer timeline), then the Previous marker is extended to the frame immediately prior the the current play head position - i.e. from Marker 1 to Marker 2. I do not have to move off the Marker 2 position to be able to extend Marker 1.
Also, simply selecting all your Markers and either dragging them to another bin (or pressing Command-U) does not produce the needed subclips?
Of this I am also aware. I find the Command-U process just confuses the issue, creating more clips to manage (others may disagree). I prefer to simply drag the "Subclips" directly from the Main clip into a Timeline.
Because you're doing all this to get subclips, right? Or wrong?
If I understand your reply correctly, I think you misunderstood my problem. I have been using subclips for several years, and find them VERY useful, especially with multi-camera shoots. So, I am quite familiar with creating and extending markers.
I just started experimenting with the Detect feature and find it works quit well (most of the time). My problem is that the Segment markers created by the Detect process, do not perform the same as manually place markers, as far as the Extend marker function is concerned, anyway.
BTW - By using the TC display in my Panasonic PV-GS400 Camera, and sending the FCP video via Firewire to the camera, the camera displays the TC on the captured clip, which I then rename the marker to for TC reference. As long as the Date/Time on the cameras are properly synced, syncing clips in the Timeline is a breeze!!
Anyway, to clarify, my process is as follows:
    1. Capture a clip.
    2. Display the clip in the Viewer
    3. Select "DV Start/Stop Detect" and watch as the section markers appear in the Viewer.
    4. In Viewer, place play head on the first Section marker
    5. Press the M key to Edit Marker.
    6. Change the Name of the marker to the timecode of the Marker now displayed in the Camcorder window.
    7. Use Shift-Down Arrow to move to the next Section Marker
    8. Press Option+` to Extend the previous marker - which does not work and is grayed out in the Mark>Markers>Extend menu.
    9. Back to step 5.
This process works perfectly with manually created markers. Because the Extend works if I move the play head one frame prior to the current Section marker, this tells me there is something "special" about the Section marker that disables the Extend function, unlike a manually created marker.
BTW - If I delete the Section marker, and create a manual marker at the same frame, the Extend marker function works again. Again, indicating that Section markers are different somehow from manual Markers.
Hopefully, this wordy explanation of my process clarifies my problem.
Aside: The clips are supplied to me by a customer on a 500GB FW800 drive. FCP5 was used to capture the clips from the original Tapes (which I do not have access to). I am the editor for the project.
Thanks again for the reply. It is greatly appreciated. If there is any other info that I have missed that will help figure this out, please let me know and I will post a response a quickly as possible.
    Gary
