Camcorder to tape basketball and football games

I'm in the market for a camcorder that I can use to tape high school football and basketball games, and then load that footage right on to my imac and use in FCE. Any suggestions? Do I need HD? I've been converting footage from VHS onto a DVD, then ripping/converting it using MactheRipper and MPEG software.

As you've probably discovered, that is a terrible workflow - both for the amount of time it takes as well as the tremendous loss of quality.
Do you need HD? That's a question only you can answer. You don't mention what your intended form of delivery will be (broadcast?, DVD?, web?) but let's assume you'll be delivering on DVD. Since DVD is a standard definition format, an SD camera would suffice, or you could go with an HD camera and either shoot in HD then down-convert for editing and delivery, just shoot, edit and deliver in SD mode.
You also didn't mention any budget for this ... without that it would be impossible to offer any specific advice on models to consider.

We are comparing the 7D, 60d and rebel T4i. We are novices but are willing to learn and realize we will need to invest in lenses. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Unless the basketball is played in VERY good light the 7D is the only option in that list. It has a far better AF system than the others when it comes to action. The 7D rivals earlier pro bodies designed & used to cover sports & fast paced action, and from using both I can verify it was up to the task most of the time. (I didn't get to use the newest firmware update before selling my 7D).
Lens choices will be highly influenced by the lighting, and faster lenses will rule in low light. Football is normally an outdoor sport so lens choice is a bit less demanding re a wide aperture.

Can the people of Apple please make an emoji tab of just sports? I know lacrosse, football, and bastball people would mostly like this.

I'd still prefer to keep separate user accounts. I never had any issues like this before. The only time I started having a problem was when I was just trying to force empty the trash a few months ago. I came on here looking for a solution and someone posted a way to empty the trash using the terminal. Before then, I hadn't used the terminal for anything--it was just another app in my utilities folder. (None of this has anything to do with having separate user accounts. Plenty of people with kids make second and third user accounts on their laptops so that multiple people can use one laptop, having more than one user on a laptop is not very difficult.) But thank you, I'll try that out and see if it works!

However, the DVD+R works on both my Dad's and my brother's laptops. My Dad's laptop is an iBook G4 with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.3.9. The DVD Player is version 4.0. My brother's laptop is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.7.2. The DVD Player is App version 5500.26.1 and framework version 5.5.0. The DVD+R plays fine on their laptops, but will not play on mine.

yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
ls /Volumes

Why when I tap on a downloaded game on my Ipad does it start the game and then go back to the opening apps page

I tap on the app for a game I have downloaded onto my Ipad and the game starts loading then goes back to the opening app page on the Ipad. Any suggestions? I tried Ssyncing with iTunes to see if there was a download listed there but there isn't anything to be downloaded.

If tap fish was an app purchased by both you can do that. If you yourself just purchased it and it's on the iPad, the iPad won't let you open it under your husbands I'd.since you have the rights, you bought it, it must be your apple I'd logged in. To do that go to settings, store, taptheapple I'd..sign out and sign in with yours. The gamecenter signing out and in will only help if youwant achievements or to play with your friends.

Why is something I bought on ITUNES not avaliable anymore? I bought it (college football game) on this computer and now it says I am not allowed to use it on this computer-something about "not permitted on this PC".

Live video capture/log? (filming football games)

Filming football games over the weekend has been pain-free and enjoyable. What I need to find a solution to is the bulk of editing I have after the games which could be easily solved if I could avoid having to capture and log plays AFTER the games and instead handle it DURING the games. Here is my general workflow:
Film game from two angles (sideline and endzone)
Capture video from both cameras (each tape is about 40 minutes of real-time capture)
Using a football software editing demo, which does not allow for live capturing, I then catalog each play as either OFFENSE, DEFENSE, or KICK. I then put all of the O,D,K plays together with one another and burn to a DVD for coach in which there are three chapters: O,D, and K.
This is relatively easy but I need some advice people! How can I run a live capture, preferably from BOTH cameras which are pretty far away from each other, which would allow me to log each play? There's tons of software out there that claim to do it but I'm not comfortable dropping thousands of dollars on their software; especially since I do not know if it works the way I want it and because I already have CS3 Master Collection.
I am hoping there's a way to run the sideline camera straight into the laptop and then the sideline camera straight into an external hard drive (or get really fancy and run it wirelessly) so that I can simply copy and paste the 2nd camera's footage to my laptop.
It's a pretty easy process but I'd love to be able to avoid capturing after the game and spending hours logging when I could easily have paid assistants handle the filming while I log the plays live.

The button on the top that you use to lock and unlock or put to sleep is the power button. The button lower center of the screen is the home button...can be used to also wake from sleep and switch to the base home screen.

If you go to the iBook icon, tap Store in the uppper left side of the screen, you can search for the iPad User Guide...a free download that will place the guide in your iBooks library as a great source of background information.

Why is it not possible to watch a football game in ipad i can watch on macbook

I've tried to watch a football game on an ipad and didn't arrive. I loaded the same site on my old macbook and had no problems at all. With the ipad however the video simply wouldn't load. When I tried to load the plugins they recommended I was told by Safara I weren't able to do so. How can I load the video on ipad? Is it a question of security or can the site be in any other way blocked? thx

Night Football games in bad light

Canon 7d - 70-200mm f/2.8 non is, monopod av mode 4000 iso, night football bad light, want better shots any help would be appreciated! I get some good shots but want better. Some are over exposed and some blurry. I'll take blame on blurry shots! Would like to stop the action better. Thank you.

The answer is most probably "post processing". Using software such as Photoshop, you can make some pretty dramatic changes in marginal pictures.
I shoot lots of football games but I am shooting the half time show. Try to get your exposure as close as you can. Even bracket shots if you are able to. I would suggest using AV not TV, however. Typically you are not after DOF so the widest aperture your lens has will be fine.
When you are through, post process them in Photoshop or your favorite post editor, maybe PS Elements. There are even some freeware editors you can try if you don't already have one.
Believe me, post is the answer.

Can I pause Canon SX50 Video when shooting? Videoing a football game.

I'm looking to video my sons football games to review later. The SX50 is great because I can take still photos while filming, But can I or How do I "pause" video filming between plays so at the end of the game I don't have 50 different video flies that I need to edit together? I know the SX50 is not a cam but I hope for little or no editing time.

I don't have the SX50 but since nobody else has replied... I don't think there is a way to pause it. At least not any way on any of the 3 Powershots I have owned, including one of Canon's newest. As you observe, it isn't a video camera. Canon's Movie Edit software (which I presume came bundled with your camera too) does a fair job of editing video and it is fairly easy to splice movies with it. I think it would be a rare instance where you shoot video and do not want to edit it in some way anyway. I know I wouldn't want a day's worth of my video all strung together because there's always bits and pieces I don't want. With the SX280 in particular I would keep on accidentally pushing the movie button and I'd end up with half a dozen movies of the ground at the end of the day that were 3 seconds long. It was much easier to delete them (e.g., by looking for really small movie files) than have to try to edit them out of a 30 minute sequence.
