Camcorders with SDHC cards and DvD memory

Forum,
My camcorder suffered an unfortunate accident two days ago and needs replacing.
If i buy a replacement camcorder with a SDHC memory card or a DvD will I be able to download to FCP and perform all the editing and associated functions in Color,Motion and shake etc?
Thank you,
Michael Craven.

Hi,
I suppose you were happy about the image results delivered by your camera (which is/was?).
FCP does not offer native AVCHD support yet (If FW connection is available you might Log&Transfer your AVCHD footage in FCP, depending on the camera model), but iMovie 8 in an intel machine can ingest AVCHD even through USB. Obviously you will have to convert your captured media into a suitable QT format to be edited in FCP and all that jazz!!
If you have to choose between SDHC and DVD I'd say you should go for SDHC. More storage space and more chances of getting those NLE software a wee more friendly.
BTW. Vegas 7 AND 8 offer good support for AVCHD.
Hope that helps.

  • 16 GB SDHC card and Ze

I saw a class 6 Patriot Signat Line Flash 6GB SDHC Card, and has a transfer speed of minimum at 6.0MB/s. The features are down below. I wanna know if anyone tell me that my 4gig Zen would be compatible with this SDHC card, and will the speed qick enough to play videos Thanks! And also that if anyone know what's this card's difference with sanDisk's micro SDHC, how special is this micro thing
    Complies with SDA 2.0 Specifications<
    High level of copy protection<
    Compatible with SDHC slot devices<
Write protection switch to avoid accidental data deletion<
    Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC)<
Write SpeedClass 6: 6MB/s minimum sustained write speed<

When you enter "Memory Card" off the Zen's main menu and select the "Browse" item does the Zen say "Media not detected" or otherwise misbehave? If not, try selecting the "Removeable Disk" menu item and then connect the Zen to your computer via the USB cable. If things are working properly your computer should show you a new removable disk icon representing the storage space on the memory card inserted in the Zen (i.e. you'll be using the Zen itself as an SDHC-capable memory card reader).
The card may be working properly but your expectations are wrong. If you were expecting the memory card to to expand the internal memory of your Zen, and have its contents integrated into the internal music database, then you'll be disappointed. It doesn't work that way. The memory card as an independent USB Mass Storage (UMS) device with a traditional file system.
If you notebook has an internal card reader but the card doesn't show up, then it could be your internal card reader doesn't support the newer SDHC standard. Notebooks more than a couple years old very likely won't be able to see it. SDHC is different than the older SD standard. That was the case for me. I had to pick up cheap external card reader to use SDHC with my old laptop.

  • Will camera connection work with sdhc card

I just got a camera connection for my new ipad and I have a sdhc card and it is not reading it.  Does it not support this card?

That certainly sounds like it is the correct setup. When I use my card with the iPad, it opens the Photos App right away. If a restart doesn't help, you may need to do a reset. To do that, tap and hold the Home button and the Sleep/On/Off buttons at the same time for approximately 10 - 20 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. Release buttons. No content will be affected.

  • How do i burn an audio dvd in my thinkpad x-201 with ulthinkpad trabase and dvd/cd burner/ player

    hello,,
would someone please point me to directions about how to burn a dvd audio disc. i've looked at various lenovo sites, but no luck [i don't even know the how-to basics, so pls excuse my ignorance].  there doesn't appear to be any application/program for burning dvds and cds on this machine.
using windows xp pro, sp3, thinkpad x-201 with x200 ultrabase and dvd/cd burner/ player
    thank you.

hi, thanks for your earlier reply. here's a clarification of my question:
i have a cd with music from an album mix. because a cd lacks enough space to copy the entire album, i would like to burn it on a dvd, which has more than enough space.
do i simply copy the cd into windows media player's library, and then burn it from media player to a dvd?
or, is there a cd/dvd burner available from some manufacturers? i seem to recall roxio or nero as software that will give me what i want.
my lenovo x201 thinkpad rests on an ultrabase that has dvd/cd burners.
    i am so confused.
    again, thanks for replying.

I cannot import my AVCHD files by using log and transfer. I can see all the files, but when I add the file to import que it doesnt work, the status is a red and says that its no data. I have tried with different cards and different cardreaders, but it is still the same. Why?!

Please give us more specific information -
What make/model camcorder are you using?
Are you absolutely certain this is AVCHD video?  Tell us more about the video settings you used in the camcorder (eg, frame size, frame rate, quality level)
Why are you attempting Log & Transfer from a card reader instead of from your camcorder?  Have you tried doing Log & Transfer from your camcorder?
Are the SD cards straight from the camcorder, unaltered, or are you just using the cards as storage?
Are you using FCE 4.0 or FCE 4.0.1?

  • Dvdirect, memory, SDHC card and Pana vid cam

I'm trying to use a dvdirect (VRD-MC6) to copy to disc some video footage shot by a Panasonic videocam. I was hoping it would be as easy as pulling the HDMC card and popping it into the DVDirect. I get an error message. Anybody try this that can suggest a workaround? Thanks

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums.
The DVDirect has slots for the following memory cards. However, not all memory card operations are supported.
    • SD Memory Card – (operation is supported up to 2 Gbytes.)
    • SDHC Memory Card- (operation is supported up to 32 Gbytes.)
    • xD-Picture Card
    • Memory Stick PRO
    • Memory Stick Pro Duo
You may connect your camcorder directly to the DVD Recorder and make copies via USB port, DV-IN or AV-IN. Please refer to DVD recorder’s operating manual for recording set up and process.

  • G4 AGP, problems with Graphic Cards and booting from Install DVD

I bought a G4 AGP (with DVD) on Ebay. It has Mac OS9.2 installed and its working correctly so far. It has an additional GraphicsCard in a PCI Slot, on which the Monitor is connected.
    1. The AGP Card doesn't give any output signal... I wondered if this would be the reason that somebody installed the additional Card...
    2. The AGP Card doens't show up in the Profiler... is this normal? According to other users this seems to be a common issue...
    3. I would like to install X 10.4, but when booting from CD, the process stops after a few seconds... and there is no signal on none of the video cards. I tried to remove one or the other card but no luck...
the firmware is uptodate and the Install DVD is correct aswell, I just bought it from AppleStore...
I don't have any original CDs available, so I cant run a hardware test.
    Anybody?
    G4 AGP   Mac OS 9.2.x

The AGP Card doesn't give any output signal... I wondered if this would be the reason that somebody installed the additional Card...
Probably. I'd take out the bad original card and replace it with the additional card. Then, check and see if that's what caused the problem. Then only other choice is to take it to the Apple store and have them check it out.
I don't have any original CDs available, so I cant run a hardware test.
You can either contact the seller and complain about the missing disks or buy replacement disks for your machine. Give 1-800-MY-APPLE a call. The AHT disk should cost about $20. I don't know what the others would run.

  • Problem with SD card and Sony Bloggie MHS-CM5

I have just bought a Sony Bloggie model MHS-CM5 and a SanDisk SDHC (number 4) 4gb card. For some reason when I turn it on, it was saying "error formatting sd card" or something very similar. I did some research and saw a problem somewhat similar, tried connecting to my computer, taking the battery out and back in, formatting card from camera options, and now it is saying there is no space on the memory card when it is brand new. I am fairly good with these things and I am stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated!

A SDHC type 4 4GB card should work fine with your bloggie, so try the card in another device and try another card in your bloggie to establish which is having the issue. If you find that the bloggie is having issues with several different cards it may need service. Give Sony support a call and they will be happy to help:

  • Can anyone help. I need to reuse my SDHC cards and transfer footage from an ongoing profect to a hard drive. Can i edit from the Hard drive or am I better transferring info striaight from camera to time line

Hi I am using a JVC GY-HM100 camera which is meant to work well with final cut pro.  I have an ongoing project but need to save money and resuse the SDHC cards that are currently full of footage.
Would I be better off transferring the footage straight to the time line (as rumour has it you can do this with this camera) or store the footage on a hard drive and edit it later without risk of losing the footage.
    Many thanks
    Lindabob

    Thanks Linda,
Here's some more info for you:
This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance - you may have already addressed some of the items but it's worth checking.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Check the spec of your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
Make sure you're using the latest version of the application - FCP X 10.0.3 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.3.
Check that you have at least 20% free space on your system drive.
If you have not already done so, move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD. Make sure the drive's formatted OS Extended (journalling's not required for video). You should always keep at least 20% free space on the Hard Drives that your Media, Projects and Events are on.
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system. Do NOT import any of the settings etc from the old account - simply use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended - but remember, if you reinstall the system, and then use Migration Assistant (or anything else) to import all your old settings etc etc, you may well be importing the cause of the conflict in the first place.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less (about half that for Multicam). If you have a long project, work on short sections, make them into Compound Clips and then paste these into a final project for export.
If you ever experience dropped frames, I strongly recommend you use ProRes 422 Proxy - it edits and plays back like silk because the files are small but lightly compressed (not much packing and unpacking to do) - but remember to select 'Original or Optimised Media' (FCP X Preferences > Playback) just before you export your movie, otherwise it will be exported at low resolution.
If you have plenty of processor power, for the ultimate editing experience, create Optimised Media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot. There's a great application for this, called Event Manager X - for the tiny cost it's an invaluable application.
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/EventManagerX/
Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences (under Playback) - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

  • PCI-E graphics card and system memory conflict.

    Hello,
I have a bit of a strange problem with my new system build.
All my parts work fine when used by them selves.
    MSI KN8 diamond.
    Athlon 3200 64bit 939 Winchester.
    Crucial Ballistix PC4000 memory.
    Inno3D 6800GT PCI-E
    Thermaltake purepower 680W.
The problem arises when I try and use both the memory and graphics card card at the same time, the system does not post stating a memory problem.  I know both work as I’m able to post when either is removed i.e when running with a standard PCI graphics card or when the memory is swapped. I’ve checked out a lot of forums over the last 2 weeks and I know there are a lot of people out there running with the same memory.  I’ve tried under clocking the memory with no success. Can anyone shed any light on this problem as I’ve never had a conflict between a graphics card and memory before.
    Thanks John

Need to make a couple of changes as there appears to be a possible issue with the loading of the Optimized Default setting in the bios, and I quote from MSI:
     Quote
After loading the Optimized Default, the memory setting values will be optimized to achieve better performance. It is, however, likely to cause problems of compatibility.
Which seems to be the exact issue you are experiencing.  First thing I would do is to manually set your vdimm to 2.8v in the bios.  This will make sure that your memory is getting the correct voltages as the AUTO setting usually sets memory to 2.5v.  This alone could eliminate your problem, but I think you'll have to comb through your memory timings and reset them, (Crucial lists 2.5-4-4-8 @ DDR500 speeds, so I'd try 2-3-3-6 or 2.5-3-3-6 for DDR400 speeds).
There is also an official bios 1.1 for your board, and a beta (5.01) from the Diamond Club.  I'd stay with the official releases for the time being (until you get your board up and running properly).

  • Problem with SDHC card

Hi, have tried using a Kingston SDHC 8GB card, but neither my iMac running Tiger, nor my MacBook running Leopard will recognize it. I've tried 2 different SanDisk readers, both state that they are SDHC and Mac compatible. Nonetheless, the card refuses to mount or be recognized. No recognition in System Profiler, nor Disk Utility. Is there something I'm missing? Is there a driver out there? Google was no help, and a search of a number of Mac forums wasn't either. I know others have had this problem, but there doesn't seem to be a ready answer.
    Thanks,
    tjh

I am also having problems using 8G SDHC with my iMac:
I have two new 8G SDHC cards, one Transcend and one Adata. I used these cards with my Panasonic SD-1. When they were brand new, I was free of trouble having my iMac recognized them, created image and loaded the video into iMovie. However, when I tried to erase these cards using disk utilities, it said formating failed. Then the volume has gone and iMac no longer be able to read it or mount it. When I tried to erase them, the partitioning began and then it stuck forever.
I took these cards back to my SD-1 or my window PC, they could be formated again and used properly. But when I brought it back to my iMac, they still could not be recognized or mounted. In the disk utilities, they could be shown as 7.5G Generic Media but then nothing could be done.
Is there anything I am missing? Any utilities I can try to bring them back to work with iMac?

  • Help! P965 owner, something strange with cd's and dvd's

I have a Intel E6400 + MSI p965 Platinum, Hdd Seagate 7200.10 and an Asus 1608P3s dvd-rw. Everything goes all right, except when I try to play a cd or dvd. it doesn't matter if it is a movie/ or music cd/dvd, it runs so slowly that it's impossible to watch. There is also a metalic noise over the sound.
May it be the integrated sound card? I use the on board Realtek sound. May it be the IDE cable or ide connection? Is it the Asus dvd-rw broken? I don't know, all I know is it's impossible to watch a movie from a dvd because it's running too slow. The video card is a 7900, it's working properly. Anyone else experienced this? First I supposed it must be a driver incompatibility, so I uninstalled the Ace mega codecs pack, and Nero as well. No result. I uninstalled the optical dvd-rw, and installed it back. Same effect. I tried another ide cable for the Asus. No change. I don't know what is wrong, why I can't playback movies and music. I also checked in windows that every ide port is in udma mode, not pio.
I must add that if I use a dvd decrypter and copy the content of a dvd (music or film) on the hard drive, it runs ok from the hdd. The slowdown and the metalic noise appears only when I try to run it from the cd/dvd directly.
    Thanks a lot.

     :D
Thank you soooooooo much! i did exactly as you said and now it is 1.17.11.
I checked both dvd with movie and dvd with music and everything works properly now.
Thanks a lot, you took my anger away, it had become so annoing lately.
You are my hero!(too bad I'm male, though )
I'll buy you a beer instead, whenever you come to Romania.

  • Video Card and DVD Burner required

    Hi,
We are in the process of trying to build a preliminary Sun Solaris 10 machine that if we get everything to work, we will start to build more units for our customers. We took a look at the Sun Solaris HCL list for parts and our resellers are having trouble finding some parts because they are out of date. We need to find technology that will be around for a while. For that reason we have decided on a Motherboard with Intel processor and PCI-E support instead of AGP. Trouble with PCI-E is the HCL list has limited options and were unable to find the parts online.
Can anyone recommend some recent PCI-E video cards?
Also can anyone recommend some recent CD/DVD-RW burners?
If this is not the place to ask these questions could you please let me know where to go?
    Thank you.

    Cornelia,
Lennart's links are very good and informative. But one thing you should know is that an external DVD burner will not play a DVD - it only burns them. Since you want to view the DVD and pause at a particular scene and print it, you'll need some way to view your DVD. You also need a way to convert the iMovie project with the imported VHS footage, to a burnable format. iDVD can do that, but I noticed you have OS X 10.2 (Jaguar). If you don't have iDVD you'll need to buy it from the Apple store.
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/70901/wo/u13Sbz1 DQJRc2kZnHbi1QKZybZA/1.0.19.1.0.8.25.7.11.0.3 or you can buy Roxio Toast 7, but toast is much more expensive. For Toast go to: http://www.roxio.com/
You also need a media player so you can view your final DVD. I did some quick research and found out that none of the free media players allows you to print - which is what you want to do. There are quite a few free media players available, like Nice player and Xine Player, but you need Panther or higher to use them. Because you're running OS X 10.2, the only free media player that you can use is VLC media player. To download a free VLC player go to: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ You do need QT 6.5.2. or higher. So you may need to update your QT.
You can't print a paused image, but you can take a snap shot of the still image, then print that. Snap Shot=CommandShift4. This will allow you to select the paused picture in the screen, or if you like just a portion of that paused picture. It will save on your desktop as a picture. Double click on the Picture, then print that.
Then it sounds like after you've burned the DVD with your titles, you will need to connect a VHS recorder to a DVD player and record your DVD on to VHS tape.
    Good Luck,
    JAM
