Camera and repair in Russia :-(

Hello! I'm from Russia and then we do not have service centers and places where repair PlayBook.
A year ago I received a PlayBook 16GB for free as a software developer.
Last September, the PB have stopped working the camera (both) and volume buttons too.
The device did not fall and has not been physically affected by the water.
I've tried all possible solutions. And the support did not help me.
They said - "We can not help you now."
Much time has passed since that time. Can anyone help me?
I know you can just replace the PlayBook in the store. But I can not.
P.S. Sorry for my poor English.

It sounds like your hard drive either has a software problem that Disk Utility cannot fix or that the HD has failed (mechanically).
Your Mac may have booted either to your recovery partition or to internet recovery in an attempt to repair the drive- I can't tell from your post.
I'll assume that it was the recovery partition.
Try to boot into internet recovery (hold down option command R at restart), and see if you can repair your HD with Disk Utility. You should also repair permissions while you're there.
If that doesn't work, try to boot into single user mode (restart, hold down ⌘S until you see a black screen with white text) and repair your hard drive. Here's a reference with directions: Repair Your Hard Disk in Single User Mode | Everything Macintosh
If that doesn't work you have a few options:
If your mac originally came with installation disks, you can try to boot from the installation disk and then see if you can repair the HD.
There is a small chance that Techtool Pro 7  will be able to repair your HD if Disk Utility can't.
If none of that works then your HD has probably failed and will need to be replaced, which is not too difficult to do yourself if you can use a screwdriver.

The problem with the warranty repair in Russia. I bought Iphone4 without a contract in Paris, and now I must go there to have it repaired? In Russia, the repair takes only bought in Russia. Is this correct? So I was told over the phone in service and support in the near future, I was not planning to fly to Paris. Just for the sake of repairing the phone to fly to Paris is expensive.
The problem of 100% on your phone, as trying to change SIM cards of different operator and the problem remains.
Phone is constantly losing the signal during a call, and often just disabled.
I bought 5 phones for himself, his wife and friends, and only I have these problems.
    Very annoying.

Yes you will need to go back to France as the warranty is country specific except in EU countries.  Or if you know anyone there they could take it to an Apple store if you posted it to them.

  • Shattered Screen and Broken Camera Worth Repairing?

I've had my original iPhone since the week of it's release and never had a problem with it until I dropped it down the stairs of my house last year.
When it finally came to rest at the bottom of the stairs it suffered a shattered screen and broken camera.
Everything else has worked perfectly fine and I've been able to continue using it despite it's shattered screen while I've looked for a job.
With a new job and some cash in my wallet I'm looking to fix this phone disaster.
Now while I know purchasing a 3G phone for $99 is cheaper than having my 2G repaired, I just can't seem to want to part with my AT&T plan.
I have such a great deal going being under a family plan that if I change to the 3G my bill monthly will close to double.
Over time I'll save more money just repairing it than purchasing the 3G for $99 and getting ripped off with AT&T's plan for it.
My question is does Apple still do repairs on their original phones?
Or would I have to go about finding the parts and repairing it myself?

You could also look at second-hand original phones on eBay or somesuch.
There are also third-party services--google "iphone repair" or something.
Also, are you sure about the plan? AT&T currently does not give discounts on multiple data plans within a family--did they with the original iPhone? The difference for data and 200 texts with a 3G/3GS should be $15/month (plus tax).
Also, I would not buy the 3G, if you do go that route. You'll get much more for your $35/month by spending a bit more upfront on the 3GS, especially since you seem to be a person who is happy to keep a phone for a long time.

  • New Mac Mini and Repairing Permissions

I've been having trouble with my Mail program and thought I would repair permissions to see if that would help. I ran disk utility from my internal hard drive and ran repair permissions. Apparently it found several permissions to repair, so I thought I would run repair permissions again and the same list appeared. Running a third time and the same list appeared again.Do these permissions ever get repaired? What do I do from here? Should I repair permissions after booting up off of my original system disk? This Mini is only a couple of weeks old and I'm already having problems with Mail and repairing permissions.
    rskover

Thank you Tim but the computer is packed back waiting for TNT to take it back to Apple. I don't have time to play with permissions, the permissions are OK in the old computer.
This is what may have been your problem. The permissions on your old computer may not have matched the new computer. I think you gave up before the penny dropped.
They sell the computers very expensive and I think they would have to improve quality.
I am unsure how that can be one of your gripes as when the cube came out it was way overpriced in comparison to their other desktops. That did not stop your or I getting one then.
Your issue was a software problem not a hardware problem so no matter what kind of mac you had it would have needed troubleshooting.
The quality of the new mac mini far exceeds that of the cube. Try playing 1080P high definition media on your cube, or even 480P for that matter. Try outputting 5.1 surround sound from your cube without the addition of a firewire audio interface.
I know how frustrating it can be when something just does not seem to work. I have encountered this a few times in my work. However sometimes I just have leave it come back with fresh eyes and try other approaches and I succeed.
What you need to appreciate installing an upgrade should be planned for any eventuality. In business upgrades are scheduled to have the minimum impact on the workplace. That being said I have worked 48 hrs solid over a weekend getting systems up for a monday morning. They are not always straightforward.

  • HT4736 Taking too long (2 minutes) to locate and download photos into Photo '11 9.5 (902.7 build running on an older Intel based MacBook Pro with iPhoto libraries on a USB2 External HD).  I checked and repaired HD permissions. Any ideas?

Regarding iPhoto '11 9.5 (902.7 build running on an older Intel based MacBook Pro with iPhoto libraries on a USB2 External HD).  I am dealing with iPhoto taking too long to download photos.  Specifically, I rechecked and repaired HD permissions. I am running the most current software my five year old Intel MacBook Pro can run.   What happens is that when I connect an external SD card, or my iPhone, the new version of iPhoto takes up to two full minutes to fully acknowledge the device. Then locate new photos and be ready to download them to my external HD.  I am kind of concerned about this.  This has never happened before.
I take 20,000 photos a year.  I really don't want to lose any.  Or is there something I am doing wrong?  Or need to be aware of?  Any experienced suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Have a great day.
PS.... The cameras I use are Canon SX-30, Nikon D3100, and my iPhone 4S.  Thanks again for your assistance.

Hello Old Toad.... Those sound like great ideas.
I thought I checked and repaired disk permissions on my main boot HD.  That boot disk is Mac OS Extended (Journaled)  Capacity 749.3 GB.  Available 562.53 GB.   BUT.... now that I think of it.... the Seagate external HD with USB2 interface is: Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Capacity 639.79 GB, Available 36.2 GB with my latest iPhoto Library 517.37 GB that was already scanned & updated to be read by the latest iPhoto version.
I'll try your suggestions tonight as far as double checking 'permissions' and setting up a tiny test library.
Or maybe it's time to fill up another External HD?
I appreciate your and anyone else's suggestions to try.
Have a great day. ~~ David in Rochester NY

  • Windows error message and repair?

Hi everyone. I'm having a huge headache with my macbook right now, maybe someone can help? Sorry this post is so long!
Immediately after I click to boot into Windows I get this message with a black screen:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original setup CD-Rom. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
So, I restart and try and re-boot into Windows, but this time with the official Windows XP CD that I originally installed Windows with. But all I get is that same message, the CD doesn't even load. (CD is fine with no scratches, loads at option button start up)
Here is where I need help:
Now, before I boot into windows, and start up with the XP CD in when holding down the option key, I get the option of booting into OSX, XP, and then the CD. My question is, If I attempt a repair strait from the CD without being in the windows partition, do I run a risk of somehow erasing my OSX partition? On a normal PC running windows, I could just boot from the CD, hit "r" for recovery, and then give certain commands like fixmbr or fixboot. I just need to know, if I do this, It won't write over OSX will it? I'm really worried this might happen.
I'm honestly baffled how this happened. My XP side has only EVER been used for school work, never for recreation (that is reserved for OSX which I spend most of my time in). Quite a few programs at school only run on Windows, so that is why I need windows on my computer. I know that if worst came to worst, I may have to delete and re-install the windows partition or bootcamp, but I'd really only like to do that as a last resort. You see, being a school partition it had some school files on it that I hadn't had time to back up yet and I'd really hate to lose those documents.
    So any suggestions?
Also, if I were to make an appointment at the Genius Bar at the local Apple Store would they be able to help me? Or maybe not because this is a "windows" issue, not a "osx issue"?
Sorry this is so long, any help is really appreciated! Thanks!

    ShilohZeke:
Repair the Windows Boot Camp partition as recommended by the error message. You have it right. Boot by holding down the option key and then selecting boot from Windows CD. One of the options that it will give you is R to repair the windows installation. Once you choose this then it will find the windows installation on your Mac and repair it. It will NOT harm your OSx partition.
You can try making a genius appointment too if you are not comfortable doing this on your own. I have heard of cases where they at times have helped people with Windows issues on a Mac.

  • Time Machine And Repair Permissions Error

    Hi.
I have a new Intel Mac running Leopard. "Set up Assistant" worked like a charm and brought over all my preferences, iTunes, iPhoto etc. with out a hitch. Verified permissions and the disk and came up clean.
I bought a USB LaCie 500GB external hard drive and connected it up with the idea that I would eventually use it for Time Machine.
First thing after connecting up the new hard drive, Time Machine came up and asked if I wanted it to use the new drive as a Time Machine drive and I clicked on "cancel." Thanks to all of you I knew enough to need to GUID partition and re-format the hard drive, from the FAT 32 that it came with to Mac OS Extended (journaled) that Time Machine needs. After completing this, again, the dialog box popped up about activating Time Machine and I cancelled it again.
I have not, yet, activated Time Machine. But running permission verify and repair yielded this error message both times: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
This is the same message seen on so many other people's machines and posted here when they run into problems with Time Machine. If I don't resolve this error, will I, too, have problems running Time Machine?
This is so weird. The only thing I did between the clean permissions verification and the one with the error was connect the USB LaCie hard drive and partition and and re-format it. Time Machine has not yet been activated on this machine.
What does this SUID warning mean? Is this something I need to worry about? Should I wait to start using Time Machine?
Or... is this not a problem but there are other things I need to do to insure a good running of Time Machine?
Thanks so much for any advice you can offer.-Charlotte

The SUID is nothing to worry about.
It is documented from Apple stating this.
Everyone of us has that error.
It has not bothered Time Machine from doing its thing.

  • Lumia 1520 Camera and SD Issues

I love my Lumia 1520. I'm a heavy user of camera and video. Since the upgrade to 8.1 I have had persistent issues. I have reflashed my device twice and the problems remain.
    1. The Nokia Camera app intermittently takes 2 - 4 mins to load. It says "loading" and does some processing. Sometimes it opens, sometimes it doesn't.
    2. After the above behavior, Saving the photo takes 60 seconds or more. If I navigate away while the photo is being "saved" the photo is lost.
    3. My original SD card, purchased with the phone at the AT&T store, is saying "Scan SD card and fix errors". Saying Yes to this seems to do nothing.
The above behavior is intermittent. For example just now while writing this, I tried the Microsoft Phone camera app and was able to take pictures successfully and without issue. I switched back to the Nokia Camera App, which I prefer, and the app functioned normally.
Yesterday I missed several important shots because the Nokia Camera App wouldn't load quickly (less than 30 seconds in this case) and the moment was long over when the camera was functional.
Appreciate the help! I love this phone!

    Hi @UltraVioletIris ,
To troubleshoot this, purchase another SD memory card, a reputable brand from a reputable store. 32GB Kingston Class 10 SDHC cards have worked reliably for me through 3 years and on 4 different Nokia phones, others have other favorites.
Backup everything, to the cloud and/or via USB to a PC.
Menu -> Settings -> storage sense -> SD card -> remove, shut down the phone, remove the old SD card, insert the new SD card straight from the packaging into the phone, start up the phone. The new card must be recognized and ready for use in the phone right away, without error messages or scan for errors notices, otherwise go directly to the second step.
1: If the new SD card works without issues then the original SD card is defective.
2: If the intermittent errors persist then the phone need repair or replacement.
A competent store should acknowledge the warranty claim on either the SD card or the phone after this.
Please let us know how it goes?
    Hans

  • One step idvd was was connecting with camera and it has stopped connecting

i had camera Canon Elura 100 connected to firewire to computer.  I was using one step IDVD and it was working.  Starting using I movie on another camera
downloading from a camera card.    Went back hook up firewire to Cannon camera and it will not read the camera now. I have reboot, replugged in and still will not work any suggestions?

    Hi
    May be help here
    NO CAMERA or A/D-box
    Cable
    • Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toggle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on <-> off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
    • Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK e.g. recording and playback to TV)
    A/D-box
    • Is the dip-switches set right ?
    • Set to same standard as recorded/editing e.g. NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps
    • Try resetting it
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    • FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    External device’s (hard disk’s)
    • Should be FireWire as USB/USB2 performs badly and so does Airport or Net-work connected ones too.
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - DO NOT WORK for video due to 4Gb barrier.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref. file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    • Screen Saver - OFF
    • Energy Saver - OFF
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie’08 (7.1.?), 09 or 11 ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE   Mac OS Extended   formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpful insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
    a technical check.
    connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
    choose 'About . . / More . .

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After un-installing Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odw_en_GB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

anyone have any suggestions? Everything has been working pretty normaly. I had started a thread a few weeks ago about my lacie external HD. It hasn't mounted since I installed the latest security update. Someone had suggested repairing permissions with it disconnected and then re-installing the security update, repairing permissions again and then plugging it in again.
i don't know if the two are related or not... but i'm concerned about this latest development.
thanks for any and all help!

The version of Disk Warrior at Amazon you gave a link to is an old version (DW 3.0) for OSX 10.2.1. Unless you really are running that specific version of OSX, I'd look for a version that's closer to your OS version (eg. I assume you're running 10.2.8)
I don't know the version history of DW, so I can't give a specific DW version no., but the current DW 4.0 only runs on Panther or Tiger. Here's the system requirements for DW 4.0.
I'd check out eBay as well to get a version of DW that came out probably about 3 yrs ago (2002-2003) that will handle OSX 10.2.6-10.2.8.

  • Microsoft Office 2008 and repairs

My sister lent me her copy of Office 08 to load, it worked fine for a few months, now no apps opens accept Word. I did a disk utility repair permissions. No difference, and then I discovered the disk utility was damaged and wouldn't open, so I re installed it from my Tiger disc, the D.U opened fine. But I am really puzzled as to why something used work fine and I now does not work. There is no message to say what the error is, it just attempts to open, the colour wheel wizzes and it just says in the finder 'not repsonding' in red. To which I have to force quit.
My sister has lost the original Office disc, her daughter got hold of it and lost it, and so we are using copies we made as back ups or off our external drives. My other niece had a copy and her Tiger macbook is still fine with Office 08. (but she had to have a new hard drive 7 months ago after a big crash after 9 months).
Any ideas why this might have happened? I don't want to risk reinstalling my Tiger disc. Maybe I should take it to Cancom where I bought it?

    Hi Vanessa,
Sounds like Disk Corruption, in which case you don't want to do anything with it, not even Repair Permissions until you fix it.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

1.Removing the battery and SIM and rebooting.
    2. Sync the BB using my Laptop Desktop Manager to sync.
    3. Downloaded latest o/s available.
Nothing works. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

Hello arindamd and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Sorry to hear you're having an issue with the sound on your device.
To rule out a software issue, backup your data (see KB12487 How to back up the data on a BlackBerry smartphone) then follow the steps in KB11320 How to perform a clean reload of the BlackBerry Device Software for Windows or KB19915 Perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software on a Mac computer).
Before any software is restored test the sound recorder.
If no sound is recorded then it's likely the issue may be a hardware one in which case you will need to contact your point of sale for hardware repair options.
    Hope this helps.

    (apologies for barging in, lllass.)
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?
