Camera app frozen

My camera app decided to start freezing up today. I've tried force quitting the app, resetting the phone, and restoring the phone and the problem persists. When I open the app it looks like it's opened like normal but the picture is black and it won't allow me to do anything within the app. This issue carries over to any app that uses the camera. Snapchat is frozen, genius scan is frozen, and facetime is frozen. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue as the camera app will sporadically work and i see a clear image from the camera. What could be causing this issue and how can it be fixed??

Restore as new, if the issue persists, take the device to Apple.

Starting the camera app goes to a full screen of a closed shutter, no menu. I've tried resetting several times. iPad is new.

Try closing the camera app completely and then reboot the iPad. See if that helps.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Camera app is frozen on my iPad. Too many photos in storage on the iPad. But cannot open camera app in order to delete any pictures. Any suggestions?

Try closing the Camera app:
1. Double-click the Home button to reveal the Task Bar
2. Hold down the Camera app for a second or two until you see the minus sign
3. Tap the minus sign to close app
4. Tap area above Task Bar to return to Home screen
If the above doesn't solve the problem, do a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider

My camera shutter is frozen on my 4S and i use camera apps to take regular pictures. Is there a facetime app that will force these cameras to work? or is there a resolution to my camera issue?

So one day my front facing camera decided to just not work. I tried the restore and everything possible, it's just frozen.
Luckily the other camera works. Last week, I woke in the morning and used my phone like normal and I noticed it was so hot. I let it sit and it cooled down and then went on my Facebook app, where not even a minute within use started to get extremely hot. My battery life has decreased significantly and my phone also gets extremely hot when charging. The weird this is that whenever I'm making a phone call, It doesn't get hot and my guess is because the screen goes dim. So i tried turning down the brightness on my phone which it became apparent that my brightness switch doesn't work either. I have tried a restore but to no avail..
The fact that my phone is getting so hot so quick really scares me.Has anyone experienced anything similar? Even though the camera not working and the battery issue happened at different times, I thought I should bring it up in case they are in fact related. Thank you all so much.

I happen to be experiencing then same problem again!
I have followed all the steps and my phone will just not come right. I love my iPhone but I have no clue what is going on sometimes it will just freeze in the camera app and I have to restart my whole phone.
I have downloaded another camera app to see if it would make any difference and it hasn't.
Should I take it back to the service provider that I have my contract with and get them to send it in to apple? Because the phone is only 3 months old.
Please Help me or advise me on what to do because I don't want to leave it and it causes more problems.

I got the same problem with my iphone 5 rear camera and tried the solutions suggested here but it did not work.
The camera application which came with ios7 is frozen as soon as it opens. I does not take photos or switch between cameras.
I have been able to use the front camera with Snapseed, QR reader . however no application is able to open my rear camera.
I am not sure but it can related with the application updates either ios7 or the camera applications already installed on our iphone. Uninstalling those apps which has access to camera and rebooting may solve the problem. This is just an idea !

Camera is not functioning
- If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
- If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
- Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
- Third-party cases can interfere with the autofocus/exposure feature and the flash (iPhone 4 only); try removing the case if you have image-quality issues with photos.
- Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
- Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
- Try to remain steady while focusing:
- Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center. Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
- Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. After recording begins, you cannot readjust focus until you stop recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll. Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
- If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

When I record video on my camera app on my iPhone 5, it won't playback ?

I have recorded some short video's using the camera app on my camera app (video mode) but when it comes to playing it back, it just stays like a frozen picture and won't actually play what I have just recorded.. ??

My ipad won't lock and camera is frozen

so, i had not charged my ipad for about a month and when i turned it on, the lock/sleep or whatever button wouldn't work. i tried using assistive touch to lock my ipad and it didn't work either. i turned it off hoping that would fix the problem but then i couldn't turn it on. i plugged it in and it showed the apple thing. and my camera is frozen and i already closed all the apps. also, my ipad is very slow, lags and crashes a lot. what can i do?

Camera App Dead after iOS7 Upgrade

I upgraded my IPhone 5c with the latest software upgrade. That went fine, but now the Camera app won't open. When I tap it, the icon expands into a black screen, then reverts to the home screen again. Over and Over. I can't open the camera. I really don't want to go have the phone replaced in an Apple store. Any advice?

Try performing a soft reset on iPhone.

Resetting iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad can fix a frozen iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad along with various other issues.
Hold down both the Lock Button and the Home Button simultaneously.
Continue to hold down both the Lock Button and the Home Button simultaneously until the screen goes dark and you see the Apple () logo appear.
When you see the Apple () logo appear, release both the Lock Button and the Home Button.

How Do I Wrap Text Like the iOS Camera App?

Hello. I am in yearbook, and I have been challenged with designing the cover of the yearbook, and I have been having a few problems along the way. One of these problems is to wrap text. Specifically, I'm stuck on how I would wrap text like the iOS camera app on the bottom of the screen. The words seem like they are wrap around a 3D object to give it that effect, but I can't really tell. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Well...there's Photoshop Touch and Photoshop Mix as well as Lightroom Mobile. It could be argued that they're don't exactly mirror their desktop cousins, yes, but they weren't meant to be. They were meant as extensions to the desktop experience. (e.g., Lightroom Mobile lets one work with the RAW images they have in their Lightroom desktop collections.)
The more powerful Windows tablets can run Photoshop desktop (like Photoshop CC) too.
@bluebocat: Are you looking for text with a perspective? Like it has a vanishing point? As if it was turned in a certain direction in 3D space?

I downloaded today 09.19.2013 iOS 7 on my iphone 4 and iPad retina. Unfortunately on the camera app the switch from photo to video does not work neither on iphone nor on ipad. Is it a "youth" bug ?

Camera Roll is not the same in Camera app vs Photos app ???

iPhone 4S issue...
I just got a new iPhone 4S. Restored from a 3GS backup.
I noticed yesterday that some of the photos that I took with the built-in Camera app aren't showing in the Camera Roll. Specifically, the last 3 pictures that I took plus a couple three other older ones. But it only happens when I view the Camera Roll through the Camera app. Using the Photos app I can see all the photos I've taken.
- When viewed from the Photos app, the "Albums" list says "Camera Roll (254)" and all photos show up.
- When I open the Camera app and click on the picture thumbnail in the bottom left and it opens the Camera Roll it says "248 of 248" at the top of the screen and I can't see my last three photos plus a couple more other older ones. They're not in the thumbnail index and I can't swipe to them from the individual photo display. Again, this is when viewing the Roll from the Camera app.
- I have no other Albums but "Camera Roll". None of the photos have been edited either.
I called Apple support and they instructed me to reboot my iPhone. This didn't change much except now the last "missing" photo shows up as the small thumbnail in the lower left of the Camera screen. But when I click to view the Camera Roll, it's still nowhere to be found (along with the other "missing" ones). The Photos app still shows all of them just fine.
What the heck is going on? It sounds like a bug to me... the Camera app and the Photos app should be pulling the same data, right?
Apple support suggested that I connect it to my Mac and do a Restore. Even if this works, it doesn't give me much confidence that it won't happen again as it seems like a bug. Should I report it?

im also having a problem on my iPhone 4 that just started today, about 100 or so photos and videos just completely disappeared.. basically it shows the last 4-5 photos that i took, and then the first 50 or so.. everything in between is gone.
when i view from the camera vs the photos app the last 4-5 differ.. so who knows *** is going on...
but if you download a program called iExplorer you can view and download everything, as all the files are still there

IPhone 5s camera app won't open and crashes from lock screen and control menu

Hello, I recntly got a Black iPhone 5s 16gb and it was working fine. Then sudenly the camera app started crashing after i took photos. Soon later the camera app wont open at all and if i try opening from the lockscreen the phone just reboots. Ive tried just resetting all settings just off the phone and nothing happened, so i decided to restore my iPhone to factory settings and still had no luck. I also had a problem with the flashlight it stopped working aswell (went gray on control menu) and all flashlight apps wont even. I also found out that my snapcat front camera (selfie camera works) and there is no 'swap button.
This is the second time Ive been suffering from a camera issue the first one was ery similar the shutter wouldnt open because there was no memory, but now ive got 9.1GB free so this cant be the problem. Other reviews i have read state that the phone has a hardwear issue and need to be replaced.

FIX FOR REAR CAMERA AND FLASHLIGHT!!!
I also had the same flash and rear camera problems as everyone else but I figured it was a software problem.
To fix the flash/flashlight, simply download the flashlight app. The one everyone used before iOS 7. The flash should work immediately.
To fix the rear camera go to Settings > General > Restrictions. Enable restrictions and turn the Camera off, then take the restriction off. Check your camera, it should work immediately.
Hope this answers a lot of questions and saves a bunch of money due to Apple's failures.
