Camera Connection Kit - Accessory uses too much power

I am trying to import photos from my Kodak EasyShare M873 via the USB connector from the CCK. About a quarter of the way through the import, the iPad disconnects and states, "The attached accessory is using too much power". Is anyone else getting this. I suppose I could just remove the SD card from the camera everytime I want to import. But then what is the point of having the USB adaptor if the iPad can't handle connecting to a semi-low quality consumer camera?

The USB cable is great if the battery is full and you don't have a ton of photos, or if the camera either has photos in its "built-in" memory or doesn't use SD.
PERSONALLY I'm glad they included both, but plan to use only the SD adapter on trips.
Doug
PS: It might be interesting, though probably camera-specific, to compare transfers times both ways...

It depends on the camera, but some have a special mode for offloading photos but not trying to charge the camera through the USB port. For others, you may have to pull out the SD card (if that's what it uses) and use the Lightning to SD card reader instead.
Maybe if you told us what camera you are connecting, somebody here with the same model can give you more specific information.

When I connect using the USB option I get a screen on the ipad which says "Accessory Unavailable. The attached accessory uses too much power"
    What should I do please?

I believe your camera uses a micro SD card. The CCK accepts the full size SD card. Do you have a SD card adapter to plug the micro into?

My iPad is tellin me I can not use the camera connector because it uses too much power..... ***

I'm having same problems.   If I connect my blackberry it says it uses too much power.  If I take sd card out of phone and connect that way I get the same message.    The leaflet with the connector says go to Apple.com/support/iPad to find list of compatible cameras..........  I'm still trawling the site to find any such list!    Just need to know if it will work with a blackberry .....  If not I've got to take it back.    Have been advised by a friend to cut my losses get my money back and use Bump to transfer my pics.    I don't own a traditional camera because my phone has a great one.  Really don't want to have to carry a camera about with me!   They don't make it easy do they!

  • Lightning to usb camera adapter saying attachment uses too much power

Can anybody help me please as I brought this cable and I get a message saying accessory unavailable or attachment uses too much power . Thanks in advance

If it's an Apple adapter, take it to an Apple store for replacement.
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Error msg 'attached accessory uses too much power' ??!

    WOW...HELP!!
I get an error message:  'attached device uses too much power' virtually every time I attach ANYTHING.  Really?  Is this related to my distressingly sophisticated cyber-stalker- from- ****?  All I want to do is download some pics from my camera, for heaven's sake!  As a bonus, it would be cool if the apps I've purchased would actually function; scratch that - if they'd just show up in the apps list in my settings, even...that would be progress!
I love Apple; my issues are NOT the result of the product, nor a lack of patience (and kindness) on Apple's part.  However, I refuse to accept 'statistically impossible error' as my lot in life...especially not as the result of some idiot stalker.
    BUT....
I am woefully outclassed by this hacker jack***
    HELP!

I get an error message:  'attached device uses too much power' virtually every time I attach ANYTHING.
What are you trying to attach?

If there are no user settings in the app, it will not show up in Settings since there is nothing you can set.

  • CCK & iPad2 FAIL - (Accessory Unavailable-The attached accessory uses too much power)

Well, I'm not too impressed right now.
Picked up my new Camera Connection Kit (CCK) tonight and received the error message (see post title) on every camera I tried it on.
    DCMI folders located in root.
    Latest update (5.1)
This is with direct to camera connections.
Cameras all use micro SD cards, which CCK claims are comparable.
Some cameras use fully charges lithium batteries, others standard AA rechargables.
I'll buy a micro SD to SD converter if I have to, but the whole idea if geting the CCK was to have the photos transfer from camera to iPad with little hassle.
I'm away from home and without my laptop, so an out of the box working solution would have Been ideal.
Please reply ONLY if you've have a similar problem, or know the solution.  Wishful thoughts of exploring further only clutter the topic.
    Thanks in advance.

Perhaps if you stated the models of cameras. From what I've read if you're connecting the cameras to the CCK, there are sometimes settings on the cameras you need to change to make it work.
I always use mine just with the SD card - saves my camera battery - and I've not had an issue.

  • Camera Connection Kit "Using Too Much Power" Error

I'm trying to connect my iPhone 6 to my iPad Air 2 using the Apple USB Camera Connection Kit so I can transfer some video files.  I get an error that says "Accessory Unavailable - The Attached Accessory Uses Too Much Power".  Both devices are running the latest version of iOS.  I've tried hard reboots on both and no change.  This used to work fine with my iPad 2.  Is my camera connection kit defective?

My camera just started doing this on my MBP too! I have no idea what to do

  • Camera connector and Samsung ST1000 - "too much power"?

I purchased my iPad primarily to take on an overseas holiday so that I could access my email; and
(ii) Download and manage photos off my Samsung St1000 digital camera.
I also purchased the camera connector. However, whenever I try and connect the camera via USB, I get a message that the "accessory is unavaile: The attached accessory uses too much power" and it won't let me access the photos to copy them across.
Any suggestions as to how I get around this problem?

Is the battery in the camera fully charged? Googling says the camera takes a micro SD card. There might be adopters that will allow putting the micro SD card in an adopter so you can use the camera connection kit SD card reader. Or you might be able to buy a USB micro
card reader and plug it into the camera connection kit USB connector.

  • Camera connection kit w/USB says cannot work uses too much power

When using the camera connection kit /USB the message cannot use device it uses too much power pops up!

What are trying to use it with ? If you are connecting it to your camera then does your camera have a setting on it to enable PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol, Pictbridge) or Mass Storage Device ? If you are trying to use a third-party card reader or a flash-drive with the kit to copy photos/videos over to the iPad, then a lot of them require more power than is supplied to the iPad's port - if you have a powered card reader or a single-card reader (i.e. not one that has different slots for different types of memory card) then that might have a better chance of working

  • I bought a camera connection kit , while connecting my camera (Samsung ex1) , I got this message from my iPad "my attached accessories using too much power "

I bought a camera connection kit but fail to connect to my iPad . My iPad prompt me that my attached device using too much power ! I got no problem using the SD connecting kit. My camera is Samsung EX1 , pls advise

Do your cameras support Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) and/or USB Mass Storage Device Protocol (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4106), and if so do you need to change a camera menu setting in order to enable it ?

  • HT4101 My ipad says the device uses too much power when I connect my camera

I brought my ipad 2 on holidays and have purchased the camera connection kit.  I tried to download my photos and an error message came up saying that the device uses too much power!    My ipad is powered up to 100% and I have closed any open files and it still says the same thing?  Does this actually work or do I have to return it?

What have you connected to the kit ? The amount of power that is supplied to the kit is limited, and can't be changed - and a lot of card readers and cameras need more power than is supplied to it. If you have connected the kit directly to your camera then does your camera have a setting to enable 'mass storage device' and/or PTP (picture trasnfer protocol or pictbridge) ?
