Camera Connector functionality minimal with iPod (Video)

Hopefully Apple R&D reads this and acts accordingly to this review as posted in Apple store:
"[4stars] Great Potential but not mature (yet).
Connector is a great idea and interface between our 30Gb iPod (video) and Canon Powershot S80 works basically fine. Connector delivers as promised, but -unlike Apple- the provided software support and functionality by current version of iPod software (v1.0.0) is far too minimal:
- you can't make a (previewed) selection of images to be transferred. It's ‘all or nothing’ and ‘images only’ transfer (jpeg?). Sadfully other camera content like video files, is ignored. Therefore you can only free up the camera memory space used by images. OK, immediately viewing those camera produced avi's is too much asked considering capabilities of current iPod’s and its file type support, but just basic transfer of all camera data as mature backup medium should be (made) possible.
- Transfer speed is very slow. Even though they both support USB2.0 current throughput is about 15-30 minutes per 1GB (worse than USB1.1 spec!) and drains batteries rapidly. Because of that you run the risk of running out of batteries on either unit before complete transfer is finished, especially with nowadays common but big memory cards. This wouldn’t be that much of a problem if smaller selections of camera content were possible or USB2.0 transfer speed was really achieved (60GB/s)…
If Apple is able to improve compatibility, performance and feature set through future iPod software updates, the usefulness of this Connector is promising.
For now limited use (still need extra camera mem-cards if you're a pro on the go & in a hurry), but cheap ‘gadget’ (modern camera’s come with 2,5” screens for viewing images too)…

This is probably the type of adapter you would need to go from the Thunderbolt port (also has MiniDisplayPort support) on the back of any new Thunderbolt capable iMac to the Cintiq 20wsx.

  • Can the camera connector be used with nano 1st gen

As subject states, can the camera connector be used with the Nano??
    Many thanks!!

The camera connector cannot be used with the iPod
nano; it is only compatible with the iPod photo, iPod
with color display, and Fifth Generation iPods out of
    those released so far.

Ok thanks, but the Nano does have a Does a colour screen and can also store photos.

  • Nike + for use with Ipod Video

can i use the nike + with my ipod video. i already have the nike 180 for use with the chip. i bought them because they were great runing shoes and just found out i could put the chip in them for $35. i have a video but not a nano aand i would really like to use the chip to track my progress. buying a nano would cost 200+ and i was just wondering if i can use it with my video. thanks

I'm sorry, but this doesn't make any sense. There are products made to run with iPod videos
    It is what it is.
The Nike+iPod product is for the Nano only. Doesn't matter why.
If you know of other products that do the same thing as the Nike+iPod product, and it works for the 5th Gen iPod... then go buy one of those.
Then you go on to say that Apple isn't promoting the use of iPod video
That's not exactly what was said. The user who posted that indicated that Apple is only promoting the use of the Nike+iPod in conjuntion with the Nano.
Well, obviously, there isn't any harm for people to excersise with this product if there are accessories for that purpose.
Doesn't change the fact that the Nike+iPod product is for the Nano only.
If you have a suggestion for Apple, and would like to see the Nike+ product work with other iPods, then you can submit feedback to Apple here:

  • Boynq iCube Docking Station work with iPod Video ?

I am very interested in this product. But not sure if Boynq iCube Docking Station work with iPod Video ? Has anyone out there with a ipod video also has this. Does it dock well with say iPod Video 30G ?

as long as it has the same connecter it should be fine.
if you get one make sure the ipod fits in the cradle well.
if it wiggles too much or seems to be leaning further back than it should either put something around it to keep it standing up or return it and get a different kind.

  • Camera Connector not working anymore with iPod Video

    Hello,
I have a iPod Video 60GB which I bought last year along with a Camera Connector.
The problem I have, is that the Connector isn't recognised by the iPod anymore. Even when the camera is on and connected at the other end. The camera is a Sony DSC-V3 which has worked fine before.
But, I'm assuming the problem is with the Connector since, before the iPod would recognise the connector and show the 'connect device' screen.
The iPod still says, 'connect device', when I go through the menu and choose Photo>Photo Import
I've been tearing my hair out for over a week with this, with no luck.
Any insight as to how I could fix this? Also, has anyone else come across a similar problem?
    Thanks and best regards,

  • Ipod Camera Connector works fine with Panasonic DMC - FZ20

Just bought the Ipod Digital Camera Connector for my new Panasonic DMC-FZ20 camera and it works like a charm. The 5 megapixel photos download fairly fast. The camera take superb photos and when I go to the Ukraine again this summer, I plan to utilize the photo storage capcity of the Ipod to the fullest.

I already own an iPod Nano which I use to listen to music on. I purchased this 30GB Video iPod specifically for storing pictures on in the field while I am shooting, so that I don't have to cart my PowerBook around with me.
I was initially looking at the Epson device that would do this for me, but the fella at the camera store (knowing I was a Mac nut) said "you know, you can do the same thing with an iPod and this connector thingy.
Well ... apparently you can't do exactly the same thing

  • Can't get IPOD Camera Connector to work with Sony Cyber-shot

    Can anyone help?
I have just purchased the camera connector to use on my up and coming trip to the USA, so it will free up more space on my camera.
I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 which is listed on Apples site of cameras that are compatable with this connector.
When i connect the cameras USB cable to import photos i get message on ipod saying no card inserted.
I have tried different makes of memory cards and changed the transfer setting on my camera from normal to PTP as apple site suggested, still nothing.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

  • Syncing/Charging Problem with iPod Video 5G

I am experiencing a problem with my iPod Video 5G. When pressing the center button of the device, the apple logo appears. But before it completely starts up, it dies, leaving the screen with a faint apple logo and some lines. When I plug the iPod into my PC, a screen is displayed saying "Please Wait, Very Low battery." After a while, it restarts, and fully comes on, displaying the "Do Not Remove" screen. But a message shows up saying "No Battery Power Remains. Connect iPod to Computer". However, the battery meter in the top right hand corner shows a a completely charged battery. Also, it starts to beep. The iPod briefly shows up in iTunes, but then it shuts off, displaying a "very low battery" message again, and an error message comes up in iTunes. This whole process keeps repeating over again. This all came up out of no where, as I had used the iPod a few hours before this started. I have no idea what's wrong with it. Could it be the battery? Or the hard drive? I would appreciate any help greatly.

Go to the video settings (iPod nano) and turn off fit to screen.

  • Search function on new ipod video

I bought a new ipod video from america and it had the ood box, but the brightness control and the new battery on the actual ipod. But there is no search function on it.
I have a friend who just received a new one back from apple with a brighter screen than the old one but without a search function or brightness control.
Does anyone know whats going on?

The search function is only on late 2006 model iPods.
If it's a latest model, the serial number's last three digits will be one of the following: V9K, V9P, V9M, V9R, V9L, V9N, V9Q, V9S, WU9, WUA, WUB, and WUC.

  • Using iPod Camera Connector on the new iPod Classic

Hi, I have successfully used the iPod Camera Connector on my old Classic iPod to back up my camera. Would like to move with the times and buy the new iPod Classic but don't want to loose the ability to back up - will the camera connector work with the new Classic please? (and has anybody done it?)

Why can't this work with the classic?
another thread states "as the iPod touch doesn't support "disk use" (it doesn't mount as a hard drive on your computer)."
Well, my classic does support disk use so I would like the option to use this. Is it really that hard to have a software update to recognise a piece of software that has presumably been programmed before for previous models

  • Charging with iPod Video Brick

It takes forever to charge to 100% using the iPhone's brick (I usually have to turn off wifi). The brick that came with my video iPod is rated at a higher Amp so is there any danger using that to charge my Phone? It should push the phone to 100% much easier and quicker.

It won't make any difference at all. Electronic devices like iPhones will only pull the amount of current it needs to either operate or recharge the battery. You can use an ac adapter that has a higher current capacity, but the iPhone will still pull the same amount of current from it as it would with the provided ac adpater.
What takes so long to recharge is the method used to recharge. The iPhone fast charges up to 80 percent, then it goes into trickle charge mode from 80% to 100%. It takes as long to go from 0-80 as it does from 80-100. For me, it takes 2 hours for each cycle or 4 hours go to from 0 to 100.

  • 24" iMac AlSiO does not boot with iPod video on USB dock

    Hello all,
I have already reported this as an issue with Apple.
I noticed that when I turn on my new iMac with the video iPod on the dock connected via USB, I only see the gray screen and the OS does not start. However, once I remove the iPod from the dock, then the Apple logo will show up, and the circular moving tiny line counters will ensue before the login screen appears.
Just wondering if anyone else is running into this problem.

Thanks for the suggestions den.thed and elmac.
    I have done the following:
    - Selected the Mac OS X on the MacHD as the startup disk and locked that from further changes. Restarting the iMac did not work.
    - Verified and repaired permissions. Restarted the iMac and it did not work either.
    In addition, I also tried:
    - Restoring the video iPod and leaving it without contents. Rebooting the iMac worked.
    - Syncing iTunes with the iPod after the restore. The rebooting problem appears again.
It seems like some synced items on the iPod are causing the issue as odd as that sounds.
I did not have this problem with my G5 iMac.
Since there is a workaround, I'll just live with that for now.
    Thanks again.

  • My apple camera connector comes up with an error "this accessorty is not supported.." on my iPhone 4 now that I have updated to iOS7, previously it worked fine.  Any suggestions?

I have an iPhone 4 and a camera card connector (bought from apple) which worked fine together, then I updated to iOS7 and now when I plug it in it says " This accessory is not supported by this iPhone."
Any suggestions on how to get my certified apple camera connector working with my iPhone again would be greatly appreciated.  I really wish I hadn't updated to iOS7....
