Camera has dead pixels??

Hey gang-
Has anyone seen this before? I have a 2-year old 5 meg Canon SD450 Digital Elph. When viewing some pictures I took this week in iPhoto 8, I noticed a small, bright spot on each picture. I was afraid that I had suddenly developed a dead screen pixel on my new 24" iMac. But I observed that the spot moved when the picture moved, so I thankfully ruled that out.
Anyhow, I then downloaded the pictures to a different Mac and same problem. Sooo, I used pro lens cleaner and lens sheets and cleaned the lens. Took some new pictures- but same spot is there!
Anyhow, the spot is centered at pixel 1803x916, on my photos of resolution 2592x1944. Magnified it is basically a white square with black border. The entire square is about 3 pixels by 3 pixels.
Does this sound like- and I hate to ask- the CCD is going bad in the camera? Anything to check to try to fix this?
Thanks gang!
Dave

I'd ask at the Canon site. I'm sure they have a Customer Service site.

  • I bought an iphone secondhand first generation that now has dead pixels. Impossible for me to get it replaced/fixed by Apple?

    As the title says:
I bought an iphone secondhand first generation that now has dead pixels and I'm not sure of the cause. Impossible for me to get it replaced/fixed by Apple? It's obviously more than a year old and there's no added warrantee...

To the best of my recollection, the first-generation iPhone, if that is truly what you have, was never released in Australia, so no, you probably cannot get any service from Apple for that iPhone. You may wish to confirm what model of iPhone you really do have using this information:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939
before you proceed further. Your options will depend on what model of iPhone you really do have, and where that iPhone was originally sold (service is available from Apple only in the country in which the iPhone was originally sold).

  • 5th gen ipod has dead pixels.

Hi i turned on my ipod today and discovered a horizontal line of dead pixels i ran it through diagnostics mode everything seems fine. i was wondering if there were any fixes i could do to it myself before mailing it in to apple for failing on me. no it isnt covered under warranty

This has been discovered to be a very common issue with the 5th Generation iPods, unfortunately.
There is a very informative thread on the topic here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8177702#8177702
Hopefully that can answer your question.

  • Iphone has dead pixels!?

hello to all: my iPhone has a couple if dead pixels and is especially bothering when I am watching my favorite podcast: tekzilla! What should I do and who should I call? Also: what are some good ways to clean the screen? I never got the cleaning cloth, and I bought from AT&T!

    Hello iMac,
First off, I would have gone back to the store where you purchased the iPhone and got the cloth! No huge deal, but hey, you did pay for it. I bought the iKlear kit from the Apple Store. It is AWESOME! You get several cloths a chamois and of course the small pump bottle of iKlear! When I apply the liquid, it feels like the iPhone is like getting a wax detailing. It feels so SMOOTH while applying and afterwards. Highly recommend the iKlear Kit!
Regarding the pixels, how long have you had your iPhone? Options:
    1. If less than 15 days, bring it back and get a new one.
    2. Make an appointment with an Apple Genius to review the situation. He may be able to fix on site, or recommend it go in for service, at which time you will be offered a loaner until yours returns.
    Good Luck!

  • Newly opened Iphone 5 64G has dead pixels!!

    Hi,
I bought Iphone 5 64G in Singapore and when I opened the phone, I noticed that there are 4 vertical lines on the upper left portion of the screen. It becomes more visible if the background is white. I believe these are dead pixels. I am from Philippines and now I would like to send it to apple for warranty. Can I have it replaced/repaired here in the Philippines? Thanks!

If you bought your iPhone from Apple directly and are within Apple's return period - 30 days in most countries - then you should be able to return the iPhone for refund and then can buy the configuration you now want. If you're beyond the return period, then Apple will not take your iPhone as a trade-in to one with a higher capacity. They'll only replace it with the same model.
If you purchased from a dealer, then that dealer's return policies if any would apply.
    Regards.

  • IMac late 2010 has dead pixels. What are my options?

I bought a 27" iMac Sept. 2010 and in May 2011 I noticed some dead pixels on the bottom left had of my screen. To be honest I'm a little heart broken by this because if I decided to sell it today, I wouldn't get the natural depreciated value because of these dead pixels. I know I wouldn't buy a computer with dead pixels. I do have apple care so I'd like to know what my options are.

AppleCare's Express Lane. Do note that if you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine..

  • Iphone 6 camera has flickering pixels

at first the camera took good pictures, and then the pixels started to flicker and now the pictures are very pixellated and almost cartoonish.. is this happening to anyone else?!

Hi. Is this still happening? I'm a journalist with TomGuide.com tracking iPhone 6 camera issues. Does it look anything like the situation in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLv1OneOI6U

  • What can i do if my ipod has dead pixels?

Grey lines started appearing on my ipod screen today, and I don't know what to do? Can someone help me please?

    For dead pixals see:
About LCD display pixel anomalies for Apple products released in 2010 and later
However, first try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore form backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • N82 "dead pixel" during camera mode only. Please h...

    Hi,
when i activate my camera, a "dead pixel" is visible on the top area.
I have done the following checks,
    1) Its not a LCD dead pixel because it happens only during cam mode.
    2) Its not dust because the pictures taken do not have this.
Hence can someone please advise what is wrong? It bugs me.

I have it too, and it is a dead pixel on the camera CCD chip. You can identify it by following: It's only visible in photo mode, not video. When you zoom in photo mode, it moves on the screen, i.e. stays at the same place in the picture. The reason why it is visible on the screen is probably the interpolation, which makes it appear bigger than it truly is. Also, it's invisible on the resulting photos, as it gets lost in the noise. I have experimented a bit and have managed to only get one photo under very specific circumstances where I could see it on the photo when zooming closely in.

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.
I would require few details from you in order to diagnose this issue correctly :-
    1) Version of Acrobat currently installed on your computer.
    2) Was it a standard or custom installation?
    3) Operating system installed on your computer.
    4) Default browser.
    5) And, also share the screenshot of the Error page.

  • New 80Gb iPod MP4 player with dead pixels!!!

I just bought the iPod few days ago. I did not realise the iPod that i bought has dead pixels until i watch a movie where the dead pixel is visible on black screen. It has around 10 dead pixels! Does apple cover warranty for dead pixels?

    Sergiano wrote:
How can I fix stuck pixels on my iPod?
    Some videos... ?
You can't fix it yourself unless you want to possibly destroy it and void your warranty. You will need to contact Apple support for your country/region or take it back to where it was purchased for an exchange.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro Out of box DEAD pixels

Yea, want to get a general consensus, Should i be mad that my 3200$ laptop came with Dead Pixels? I think the general state i should be in is angry.
I will be contacting Apple for a replacement, I don't think thats too much to ask at this point.

You're taking this much further than what it actually is.
Grudge? I don't think so. I don't even work in "the industry." I said I've helped set up and deploy hundreds of laptops (And also desktops, all LCD monitors). I'm at the same end as yourself, but on a larger scale. I work at in a school district in the IT department. So, once again, grudge? I think not.
No. I didn't imply that about LCD screens. I implied that on ANY LCD screen there CAN (Meaning the possibility of an occurrence) be dead pixels. I had dead pixels on my new iPod touch. I'm just sending it in for repair.
Natural reaction? Yeah, I don't think so. I don't think everyone who gets a problem with a new laptop is going to go off cussing left and right. I know I wouldn't. Matter of fact, I bought a new MBP three weeks ago and I suspect that it may have a bad battery. I'm not cursing apple and swearing all about it. That's a rather pointless reaction that gets your no where.
Constructive advice? You can't get very constructive here, since, you have three simple options. Repair. Replace. Money back.
That's great. I'm glad you've got some large nice screen that hasn't had any issues. Guess what, I have 3 LCD screens (MBP, some no name 19" LCD, and a 17" Apple Studio Display), and none of them have had any dead or stuck pixels either. But that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
Oh I should take back that there's only three options. One slight other one. You can try "fixing" the pixels.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20962
There's one for 10.5. Basically just drop the color square over the dead pixel and have it flash it for five or so minutes. That's really the only software way of attempting to fix it. If it fails then it's a repair/replacement.
Also, unlike the others, I would not suggest getting a replacement. But, this is only if you're sure that everything else on the laptop is absolutely 100%. Then why would you get a replacement? If you're sure everything else work why not just get it repaired? If you get a replacement you're risking having new issues with the MBP that could be more serious than dead pixels.
One thing to do in making sure everything else is good is a hardware diagnostics test. You can try running a hardware diagnostics test (One of the first things I did on my new MBP I got 3 weeks ago) by putting in the first apple installer CD and then booting up while holding D.

  • Dead Pixel - Apple vs. Rogers support

The other day I found a dead pixel on my 8GB iphone3G screen.
I called Rogers Canada about it and their response was "You have used the phone for more than 30minutes, thus this could be due to consumer misuse" and they didnt let me exchange the phone. Terrible customer service.
I called Apple Canada and they booked an appointment for me at a genius bar and all I had to do was show the genius the phone and she replaced the phone instantly.
If you live in Canada and have problems with your iPhone dont even bother calling rogers.

So the sole distrubutor of the phone being Rogers can only sell the phone and not replace them? why could rogers not just exchange my phone and send the defective one to apple?
If my Sony moniter has dead pixels I can return it to Futureshop.. I dont have to go to a SonyStyle store... because i purchased the product from Futureshop, not Sony retail.
In Canada Apple does not sell the iPhone in their retail locations due to some sort of deal with Rogers and Fido.
At the very least the Rogers customer service could have been trained to direct me twoards Apple Canada Care and not just say " you used it for over 30 minutes.. sorry ".
When I told the Apple Genius this she said she couldnt believe that they would not offer me my available options.

  • Dead pixel on 14 inch latop

    Hi,
I've just bougt HP DV4 3029TX from local store last week.
I found out that my unit has dead pixel (or maybe bright pixel? one red pixel).
Is there anything I can do about that? The store won't replace the unit unless HP provides DOA document and HP can't provide it because it is just one dead pixel.
I mean, it's a brand new laptop, and there should be something I can do about that. I don't mind paying if it can fix my screen. I''ve contacted HP Instant support 3 times and finally they told me to contact HP service centre, where I'd need to tell theme the whole story all over again.
    Any help/suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

There is a pixel policy and it requires that a specific number of pixels (plural) be bad within a certain radius. One bad pixel does not make a warranty claim. All laptop makers have similar policies. It is a holdover from the days when a laptop screen was much more expensive than now and frankly I think it is time to stand behind the product a bit better, but all you can really do is make a nuisance of yourself and see if they will bend the rules.
