Camera - inconsistent resolution

Hi there,
When taking photos from the standard camera app on the iPhone 4S, the photos are usually at 2448 x 3264 resolution. But I just noticed that a few of the photos are in 1920x1080 (or 1080x1920) resolution for some strange reason!
Anybody experience this?
Thx.

The resolution you set in Camera Raw's workspace has no effect on the rendering of the converted image. It just attaches metadata to the image. The pixel dimensions of the image are unchanged.
All DPI (or PPI) does is tell an application the intended physical dimensions of a print or digital display.  E.G., a 1200pixel image should be rendered 4 inches long at 300dpi, and 6 inches long at 200dpi. Applications and their users are quite at liberty to change or ignore the DPI altogether, without any effect on the image.

  • LR 1.1 - Bug with Camera Raw resolutions?

    I don't know that this is necessary, but in case this is a bug, I am posting it here, as well as in the help forum. Is it my imagination or am I missing some obscure Lightroom Preferences setting?
    When selecting Edit in Photoshop, Lightroom 1.1 seeems to ignore the Camera Raw resolution settings for Nikon .nef files. While I have Nikon's recommended D1x natve resolution set for Photoshop's Camera Raw Plug-in (5.9MP - 3008x1960 @300ppi at 8-bits per pixel), when a selected .nef file is opened through Lightroom, it comes into Photoshop using all the D1x pixels (10.5MP - 4011x2613 @240ppi at 16-bits per pixel).
    Is this yet another Lightroom resolution bug?
    Did the same problem occur with the beta and 1.0 versions of Lightroom?
    Why are all these Preference Settings hidden away in so many different places, and then not communicating with one another? If they must be set up in different dialog boxes for each application, you should be able to get to all related Preferences for Lightroom, Camera Raw and Photoshop in one place -- ideally the Photoshop Preferences dialog boxes.

    No need to double post one forum section is enough.

  • Camera Raw Resolution

    Hello Everyone.
    I shoot with Canon 5D, And By Default the Resolution of Raw Photos are:  240 dpi and the Image size Is 5616 By 3744
    When I watch some Tutorials on Camera Raw, I noticed the Instructor Is using the same camera I have 5D, But The Resolution Of His Raw shots are 300 dpi  Inside the camera Raw.
    I personally like to use my original  Image size without Up-Resing the original Resolution In Camera Raw, and Inside PhotoShop If I want to send my Image for the Print, Then I change the Resolution to 300, And Inside the Image size I Uncheck the Resample Box. What I am trying to understand Is, If you choose 300 Resolution Inside the Camera Raw, since the Image is a Raw Shot, Is It Ok,
    Thanks.

    The resolution you set in Camera Raw's workspace has no effect on the rendering of the converted image. It just attaches metadata to the image. The pixel dimensions of the image are unchanged.

  • IMAQdx USB Camera low Resolution -- "For internet Use" Option?

    Hello,
    I have a USB camera that is directshow compliant. The resolution of the camera should be close to 2600x2000 (not sure on exact). When I see available "Video Modes", the highest resolution is 352x288 resolution.
    The company supplying the camera told me to uncheck "For internet Use" in the property Panel to help fix the resolution problem.
    I don't see this option anywhere. I looked in the IMAQdx property node as well for any "internet attribute"
    Any ideas on where this option is or how I can fix this poor resolution?
    Thanks,
    Tony
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Lawrence,
    I contacted the vendor and they sent me a "registration entries" file. To update you just open the file. I was using a Moticam camera and the original SDK didn't allow for some of the changes in the directshow driver so that is why they sent an update. If you are also using Moticam, I can send you the same file, otherwise, contact the vendor directly.

  • PC CAM 930 Resolution

    We are looking for high resolution camera which can work in webcam mode.. We got spec of PC CAM 930 and 900 slim models.. We found that the resolution of these models in web cam mode is 640 x 480. And a ordinary web cam like vist plus gives the same resolution. I want to get 3. mega pixel or more in web camera mode... pl suggest me a model.
    Nanda

    The PC-CAM 930 captures images at 3.2 megapixels at best. However using the bundled software, the images may be resized to look like those by 6 or 8 megapixel cameras.
    PM me if you wanna get the PC-CAM 930 Slim or divicam(Both Brand New).

  • QuickTime SDK for Windows ICMCompressionSessionEncodeFrame crashes for higher resolution cameras  2 MP

    I implemented a while ago a H.264 re-encoding to output H.264 QuickTime .mov file usng QuickTime Window SDK  7.3.0.70. The code uses ICMCompressionSession to compress the frames going into the container. The code works fine with cameras with resolutions up to 2 Megapixels (1600 x 1200). The crash occurs in QuickTime API call. Here is the code to compress the frame:
    CVPixelBufferRef pixel_buffer = nil;
    int nWidth = (**pixMap).bounds.right - (**pixMap).bounds.left;
    int nHeight = (**pixMap).bounds.bottom - (**pixMap).bounds.top;

    CVPixelBufferCreateWithBytes(kCFAllocatorDefault,
                                 nWidth,
                                 nHeight,
                                 k24RGBPixelFormat,
                                 GetPixBaseAddr(pixMap),
                                 3 * nWidth,
                                 NULL,
                                 NULL,
                                 NULL,
                                 &pixel_buffer);
    //.....code ommitted for clarity
    // set image data into the pixel buffer
    CVPixelBufferLockBaseAddress( pixel_buffer, 0 );
    // Feed the frame to the compression session.
    m_OSerr = ICMCompressionSessionEncodeFrame( compressionSession, pixel_buffer,
            displayTimeMsecs, displayDurationMsecs, validTimeFlags,
            frameOptions, NULL, NULL );
    //unlock the pixels
    CVPixelBufferUnlockBaseAddress( pixel_buffer, 0 );
    CVPixelBufferRelease(pixel_buffer);

  • Problems with camera resolution...

    Hi everyone,
    I've acquired a security cam to test a video-chat with FMS2
    and encounter a problem with the resolution of my cam. It's a CPcam
    CPC371P and It is said to have a resolution of 510*492 (certain
    sites speak of standard resolution?).
    I wrote two simple applications, one to send the cam stream
    and one to receive it, here is the code of both my applications :
    Send.fla:
    var my_nc = new NetConnection();
    cam = Camera.get(IndexCam);
    cam.setQuality(0,80);
    cam.setMode(510,492,15,false);
    my_vid.attachVideo(cam);
    my_nc.connect("rtmp://server.no-ip.org/tchat_cam/");
    ns = new NetStream(my_nc);
    ns.attachVideo(cam);
    ns.publish("webcam","live");
    receive.fla
    var my_nc = new NetConnection();
    my_nc.connect("rtmp://server.no-ip.org/tchat_cam/");
    ns = new NetStream(my_nc);
    my_vid.attachVideo(ns);
    ns.play("webcam");
    As you can see, nothing really complicated. The applications
    work perfectly but no matter the resolution I choose, the image
    seems to be extrapolated and pixellised. I tried 512*384,
    510*492(supposed to be the cam res) and 240*160.
    In any case, the image quality is still really poor...
    If anyone could help me on this, Is it a problem with the
    camera, I may have forgotten an option in my stream ???
    Thanks in advance.
    Guaca666.

    After many tests, trying many different resolutions, It seems
    that It can't go beyond a resolution of 510x480...
    Does anyone know if it is the maximum res of a Stream or if
    there is an option to outpass this problem ? It may be the cause of
    the poor final quality of my video as the camera native resolution
    is 510x492...
    If anyone could help me, it would be a great relief... :)
    Guaca666.

  • May I receive resolution 640*480 in image LV from WEB-camera

    Hello all
    I have
    LV7.1.1
    I received
    the image from WEB-camera.
    WEB-camera
    has resolution 640*480 but I have resolution in the Image of LV -  320*240.
    May I
    receive resolution 640*480 in LV
    With respect.
    Aleksandr

    Hello,
    I assume you have to change the settings of the camera and not the code in LabVIEW...
    Just in case, see the attached code in LV 7.1.1 that allows to change the image resolution.
    Hope this helps

  • IPad 2 camera resolution

    This morning i could see iPad 2 for first time. When i saw the camera's resolution i couldn't believe it's horrible. 0 points to apple.

    Yeah, but then how do you differentiate (refer to a particular model) if they all have the same names?
    So, do I just say, "I got the 5th iPad" or "I go the 2nd iPad?"
    Again, Apple going with a generic name just makes it confusing!!
    I'm surprised why they just dont name all their products, "iOS!" (heh)...
    I rememeber the good old days when they had names/numbers, like "Power Mac 8500," or "Power Mac 9600" or "Mac Quadra." (heh).
    That you can tell the difference.

  • Pixel resolution reduction in iPad Photo

    My camera takes 10.2 megapixel HD images. I discovered that photos imported via a SD card reader into the iPad have the same picture dimensions (3648x2064) as with an iPhoto import but on the iPad there is only 44% the resolution of the same file imported into iPhoto. In iPhoto the photo is 3.6 MG and on the iPad the same photo is only 1.6 MG. A loss of 2MG of pixel! That effectively reduces the picture to 4.5 megapixel resolution.
    Guess there is a reason for it, but it does make the iPad only useful as a way to quick view photo work, but the full resolution pictures would still have to be loaded into iPhoto, NOT synced from iPad. (or have I missed something in some kind of prefs?)

    Chris CA wrote:
    Just to wrap this up, please confirm that there is no reduction in quality, resolution, etc. in the absence of editing.
    correct.
    When pix are added to the iPad using a camera connection kit, the photo is imported as it is on the camera (full resolution).
    The iPad Photo app will also create a new version, which is 2304 x 1536. This is for display on the iPad.
    When syncing the photos back to the computer, only the original, untouched photo will get copied to the computer.
    When syncing photos to the iPad thru iTunes, the photos get reduced/optimized to 2304 x 1536, if they are larger than this.
    Good. Thanks. I was concerned that I may have misled the OP.

  • Pictures taken end up longer width-wise than displayed in camera app

    I realized not too long ago that this happens on my iPhone 5. When I take a picture of something flushed against all four sides of the screen, the picture ends up showing extra details never intended on both widths. I'm not sure if this is only an issue native to the iPhone 5. If it is then i think this could be due to the non-standard screen resolution apple adopted in the design of iPhone 5. Even then, it makes me curious why Apple designed the camera app to operate this way. It is frustrating often to find my photos turning out differently from how I intended it to be.
    I don't know if this has been discussed before, at least I don't find threads on this yet. But hasn't anyone realized this happening, because I can't be the only one frustrated about this. I'm not even that much of a photographer but I do enjoying taking photos on the iPhone 5. I love the camera, but this is just one of those small issues that are enough to be really irritating.

    Exactly the same issue, exactly what is described by joeltimothyoh. This is extremely silly since we know that Apple extended the width of the iPhone 5 from the iPhone 4's and now the camera photos resolution doesn't seem to fit the screen nicely. While this problem can be solved by a photo editing app, it defeats the whole point of capturing nicely taken raw photos.

  • IMPORTANT!!!!change the resolution in a form

    Hello,
    I want that when i do double click in the main form, the system change the resolution.
    This is, if I have the 800*600, when i Do double click in the main.fmx, then i want that the resolution change to 1024*800.
    Can you help me?
    Thank you

    Unless you have added third party software, your built-in camera's resolution is set by the software you use.  (If you have added third party software to your new Mac, check its settings or follower its develper's instructions for uninstalling it.)
    Restart your new Mac and test again.
    Use good (means very bright) light for best pictures.
    More info: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3097
    (The new Macs have changed the name from iSight to FaceTime camera, but the same info and troubleshooting applies to each.)
    Finally, you can check whether there is a smudge or film on the camera's lens opening at the top of the display.  If necessary, gently wipe it clean with the cloth that came with your Mac.
    If your new iMac's images are still worse than those from your old Mac when using the same software in the same position with the same lighting, contact your retailer as soon as possible to have the camera checked out.

  • Resolution (pixels/inch) in Photoshop opening window

    When I convert a camera RAW image to DNG format (using the Adobe DNG Converter) and open it in Photoshop CS, one of the things I can apparently set a value for in the window that opens is the resolution (in pixels/inch). How can I choose a value? Is this not predetermined by my camera's resolution and then modified by my choice of paper-size when I print the image? I should be very grateful for an explanation.
    I am using Adobe DNG Converter v. 5.7 and Photoshop CS on a Mac G4 (PPC) with OS X 10.4.11.

    >Charles:P.S. I would like to meet the software engineer at Epson who decided that the "scale your image by an arbitrary amount depending on paper size" option should be called "borderless printing" - I have some mortgage-backed securites I want to sell him.
    It isn't just Epson. Virtually all 'borderless' printing engines have overspray. It is to make sure that a slightly misaligned paper does not result in a bad print--i.e. white stripes down one or more sides. In some (very few) printers this 'overspray' can be turned off. In others (a few more) the overspray can be reduced but not eliminated.
    >Charles:P.P.S And I'll give the brilliant Epson tech-writer $1,000 for every time the manual mentions that "borderless printing" scales your image
    It is another one of those items so obvious to the printer manufacturers that they don't deem it necessary to place in the manuals. Contrary to their beliefs it is not common knowledge and I agree it should be in the manuals.
    The 'problem' has been around for a long time:
