Camera kit not working? I may have an explanation
So I bought the camera kit today. Plug the SD card reader and nothing happen. Hmm! Try the camera with it's cable, not working.
Hmmm... Try the same with my wife's Ipad and it works first shot!...Oh no! Please make so that it's not a defective Ipad.
But my Ipad have those black rubber protector. The cut out where the connector port is is just big enough to give access but the white plastic shape of the camera kit is bigger. So it sit on the rubber which is about 3mm thick. And that's enough to prevent the accessories to do proper contacts.
I proved my theory by flipping out the rubber and inserted the SD card reader and it worked.
Looks like I'm going to do some fine surgery on around the cutout if the protector.
If you do have some kind of casing and problems making the camera kit work, you may have the same problem I had.

Possible, those rubber case are molded and not exactly of the same perfect dimensions... It's called fabrication tolerances. So lucky you then. Others might have the same imperfections mine have and will have an indication of one thing to look at.

Having tried all the ways possible to get it working, contact your retailer again and politely tell them they did not yet satisfactorily resolve your trouble. Their Apple-Authorized Service Provider will be able to repair it.

Sd photo import camera kit not working with iOS 8
I bought an Apple brand sd card photo import camera kit for the iPhone 5 (lightning cable) a couple years ago. It no longer works with iOS 8.x. I now have an iPhone 6 Plus and it still does not work. I get the error "This accessory is not supported by this iPhone." Since it is Apple brand it should work.
I have googled and searched the forums and found no leads on this. I was hoping with the latest 8.3 release it would be addressed. Does anyone know how to get this to work or is it an apple bug?One article that might be helpful is here (suggesting you need HUB if it's drawing too much power):

It has to have a DCIM folder, but the directory after the DCIM folder, and the files themselves, have to follow DCF rules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designrule_for_Camera_Filesystem)..if it's the structure created by the camera it should be fine but if you change the folder to something other than DSC_xxxx and you change the image filename to something other than ABCD1234.whatever then it won't show up.
You can double check if the kit is being recognized at all in Settings -> About, then scroll to the bottom, it should say like Apple Card reader or something I forget. If it isn't, I would just reboot -

I just experienced a problem with my iPad 2.
I plugged the Camera Kit (SD plug) and inserted a SD Card inside in order to import pictures.
Nothing happened...
I tried to power off/on the iPad, and still no reaction.
I've tried several SD Cards without reaction.
I have even tried to use the USB Plug, and put some USB Memory Flash without any effect (but I never did this before).
There is absolutely no reaction whatever card I plug.
Still, if I plug the iPad to my laptop, it's ok (iTunes / Disk mode and so on).
But, the weird thing is that it worked in the past with the same SD Card : I tried to import pictures and had a "disk full error".
Of course, I deleted some files and now there is enough disk space to import a lot of pictures...
My battery shows 36%.
Do you have any clue ? I really wouldn't want to restore all settings.
Is there a minimal battery state to import pictures from a SD Card ?
Any help is highly appreciated.

I've powered up the iPad (up to 50%).
I've put back the adapter+SD Card and firmly inserted the adapter even moving it a little bit to ensure contact.
And the device worked back, and I could import the pictures from the card, as in the past.
I'm not sure that the contact was the issue, I'd rather think that the iPad needs a minimal power to load pictures from the card.
Wait & see, if I can find a "scientific" rule, I'll post it there.

I have an ipad 2 and have just updated to ios7 , my camera kit does not seem to work at all, it does not pop up with the option to import pictures nor does it appear in the photos app.
Nope, still getting not a certified apple device. It worked fine until ios7 update. Anyway to remove last update? Would rather have accessories than latest update. Crazy to spend $50 on accessories for a $500 ipad that I know cannot use. Apple is forcing hand had to spend another $30 on a peplacement cord that was authentic apple product racking accessories up to $80 now for an ipad less than a year old. Any way to get these to work?

I recently updated my software to ios6 & have now found camera not working on my ipad. We have tried resetting & numerous other solutions but nothing has helped. Can anyone tll me why this has happened & ow o I fix it, thanks
1. Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar at bottom
2. Hold the Camera app down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
3. Tap the minus sign to close app
4. Re-launch the app and test

I have done absalutely nothing to my 4g apple ipod touch, and it over heats, won't hold a charge, and the front camera will not work. I bought this brand new in december, and i've barely used it. I've tried restarting it and everything, I honestly think this is out raging because i spend over $200 on this. To have for music and instagram. I use it about an hour a day, but i've only been using it for about 3 months although i've had it since December. Any suggestions that may help me?

- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod

Ipad 2 IOS 7 Camera Connection Kit Not Working
I have Ipad 2 and Apple Camera Connection Kit. Since update to IOS 7 it has not worked. I have tried everything suggested on the boards but it still does not work.
I'm surprised this worked at all. I gather the camera connection kit was intended as input only.

2) You can downgrade to ios 8.2.
For a limited time Apple will allow you to downgrade to the previous release. Hurry do not wait.

It should. It will only respond if there's something on the card for it to respond to, so do you have pics on the card?
And if it's messing up; try giving the iPad a restart. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see hte red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again. That can clear up any glitches on the device itself. -
I fell down the stairs the other day and busted my other ipod to the gamewerks near my house. the guy said he couldnt fix that ipod so he gave me a new one.. a better one a 32GB, the broken one was 8GB. but he told me the only bad thing is that the camera does not work and he doesnt know why... he just couldnt get it to workkk... any ideas on whats wrong?

No one here can help you. If your phone is no longer under warranty, a third-party repair shop will most likely be your best bet. You can't mail the phone to Apple, in the US, as Apple does not accept international shipments. You could mail it to a friend/relative, in the US, & they could take it to an Apple store for you. Some Apple stores repair iPhones. Otherwise, you're looking at an out of warranty replacement.
