Camera Kit

I bought the camera connection kit at the same time as my iPad, I understood that there was no provision for connecting compact flash cards other than by connecting the camera directly to the iPad. I was not keen on that idea as it would add drain to the camera battery.
I experimented with a few multi card readers I owned, some worked, some did not but as I was attempting to travel light I was looking for something smaller than a multi card reader.
Performing a web search I found the card reader pictured at the flickr link below
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4029/4713475185b52dae86bdb.jpg
In the UK this was available for approx £6 from Play.com, with no branding but I have found similar ones with the ( I think Integral or something close ), I assembled the combination by first putting the card in the reader, then connecting the card reader to the USB part of the camera connection kit and finally connecting the combination to the iPad, first time with fingers crossed I waited just a few seconds, the photo app started and very shortly I had previews of all my NEF files on screen ready for me to make the selection I wanted to import.
I now have a very compact download kit to work with when I am away from home, please excuse the quality of the photo, I was so pleased it all worked I just wanted to pass on the info.

Thanks for the suggestion to try the transfer with a 75%+ charge.
The charge level seems to make no difference; my iPad (64GB Wifi+3G with 40GB of free space) refuses the 16GB CF cards at 100% charge the same as it does at 60% charge, and it doesn't matter if there's one image on the card or if the card is full.
With the same card reader, 8GB CF and 8GB SD cards are accepted with no problems at all regardless of battery level, which makes me think it's either a problem with the iPad firmware and larger CF cards (I don't have any SD cards larger than 8GB to try this with), or it might be that accessing cards bigger than 8GB requires more power and the iPad doesn't have enough go-juice to manage them.
But that's all guesswork. Looks like it might be time for a trip to the local Genius Bar later this week. I'll follow up once I've done that.

  • IPad 3 ios 6.0.1 Causing camera kit issues

    Hi there,
I would like to point out that earlier this month we got an update for the iPad 3 to iOS 6.0.1, which I promptly updated mine. Everything was working fine, until yesterday.
Yesterday I had clicked few snaps during the evening and wanted to edit the same on my iPad 3 and transfer the same via the apple SD Card reader camera kit which I have just recently bought a month back. When I connected the SD card reader to the iPad 3, guess what nothing showed up, usually the photo app comes up with the SD photographs.
Apparently the SD card was not recognized by iPad itself. I thought the SD card was faulty so I switched over to the USB connection kit and connected my Nikkon D3000 to the iPad 3 over the usb cable, and guess what, nothing happened here either.
This brought me to the point that, how can both of the connection kits won’t work at the same time, and then it struck me that I had recently done and iOS update to 6.0.1 and that could be one of the possibilities of it not working properly. Normal function of Apple is to kill the old version of the kits / connectors / docks when there is an update of the software, that’s what I have seen and suffered in the past with my docks.
Since my cousin also has an iPad camera kit but is using an iPad 2 with iOS 6.0.1, I used his kit on his iPad 2 and to my wonder the SD Card reader read my memory card and showed up all the photos on the photo app. So I then used his SD Card kit on my iPad 3, after 2 - 3 tries it worked. So at that point I imported all the pics I required.
Now I switched back to my SD CARD READER and tried it on my iPad 3, vola it worked, but it took it time to show up. With few more tries of removing and inserting the connector kit again to check, it worked every single time. I guess the kit I am using got hung or something and just required another one to clean / remove the hang/bug.
Now I wanted the usb connector to work as well, so I used a usb 2 gb Sandisk  fat32 formatted stick and made a DCIM folder and added few files from my computer and tried it on, and this time the iPad 3 read the usb stick and showed me the few files on it.
After which I tried to connect the SD CARD reader again to check if it would work after the usb connection, it worked but was apparently showing me the usb stick files on the screen rather than the SD Card pics. On re inserting it, it came back to normal. Same thing happened when I tried the usb connection next time, it would show the SD Card files and not the USB files, but with reinserting it would solve the problem.
And this is the issue I am facing at present, if I use the SD CARD reader first and import my files, the next connection via USB or again SD CARD or via USB and camera cable, it will first show me the images of the previous connection and not the current ones. I have to reinsert it again to clear the old file cache and to show me the new current pics which I want to import fresh.
Soo could you please advice me on the follow:
Why did the connectors did not work at first on the iPad 3 ?
Could there be a bug in the iOS 6.0.1 for the iPad 3, as this problem is not seen on iPad 2?
    Do advice.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • I just purchased a lightning sd card reader for my iPad, but it does not fit..it's for fourth gen...opps..I've now had to order the camera kit for third gen model...will I need both or do I return the first one

Hi i just purchased an sd card reader but it's for fourth gen iPad...pops. I've now ordered the camera kit for the third gen ....do I need both somehow or do I just return the lightening ad reader I purchased first. I rang apple support and swear I was told keep both, but if the camera kit is all I need...I don't see the point in keeping the fourth gen one, since it won't fit? Confused...ita a fourteen day refund so I need to act fast...any help?

There's no reaso to keep the Lightning version if your iPad can't support it. Unless you have some other devcie that can use it, like an iPad Mini or an iPhone 5.
    Otherwise return it.

  • Sd photo import camera kit not working with iOS 8

I bought an Apple brand sd card photo import camera kit for the iPhone 5 (lightning cable) a couple years ago. It no longer works with iOS 8.x. I now have an iPhone 6 Plus and it still does not work. I get the error "This accessory is not supported by this iPhone." Since it is Apple brand it should work.
I have googled and searched the forums and found no leads on this. I was hoping with the latest 8.3 release it would be addressed. Does anyone know how to get this to work or is it an apple bug?

One article that might be helpful is here (suggesting you need HUB if it's drawing too much power):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4106
    @ rotorcraft:
It has to have a DCIM folder, but the directory after the DCIM folder, and the files themselves, have to follow DCF rules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designrule_for_Camera_Filesystem)..if it's the structure created by the camera it should be fine but if you change the folder to something other than DSC_xxxx and you change the image filename to something other than ABCD1234.whatever then it won't show up.
You can double check if the kit is being recognized at all in Settings -> About, then scroll to the bottom, it should say like Apple Card reader or something I forget. If it isn't, I would just reboot

  • Transfer HD video from canon dslr to iPad 2 via cam kit Question!

    Hey all.
    I have a Canon DSLR that records 1080p HD video at 24, 25 & 30 fps and 720p HD video at 50 & 60 fps.
I have an iPad first generation with a ipad cam kit for transferring video and photos. It transfers photos just fine, but with video, it can't transfer full 1080p clips at all directly from the camera using the USB cam kit connector or via SD card using that adaptor. Nor will it transfer 720p clips using the cam kit unless the clips are not more than 30 fps. Since the canon t3i dslr shoots 720p video at 60 fps, the video is not viewable unless I first transfer it thru my iMac at home and THEN load it on the iPad.
Since I travel a lot, this is not convenient for me.
I want to be able to transfer my HD movies directly onto my iPad while on the road and edit them and then upload them to my travel blog or YouTube.
The first gen iPad cannot run the new iMovie app. Only the new iPad 2 can. So I was thinking of upgrading to the iPad 2.....
HOWEVER...I want to know if I will have the same problem trying to transfer my HD video directly from my canon t3i DSLR via the cam kit while on the road so that I can view and edit the clips on my iPad 2?
I know getting the MacBook air is an option, but I prefer traveling with the iPad. I just want to know if any video/photographers who have the new iPad 2 and canon dslr can answer my questions.
    Thanks so much.
    Cheers.

Yes, they will transfer as long as they are in 720p. However, you might want to check this if you are willing to try. Might save you from having to buy a new iPad?

  • Camera kit  iPad: what settings to use in HandBrake so video will play?

I'd like to put some video footage on an SD-card and view it on my iPad with the camera kit. Importing it into iTunes is a hassle.
My preference is to use HandBrake where I can select a default setting and 'go' - I not keen to experiment with audio settings, frame-rates, codec etc. Looking for something 'idiot proof'. Any suggestions .. please ?

Have you tried the default iPhone/iPod settings? It's been a while since I've used Handbrake but I believe it still has defaults for various iOS devices.
For what it's worth, you're probably going to find that transferring video by putting it on an SD card is a far bigger hassle than using iTunes. The directory on the card has to match what a camera would create. The video has to have a name that the CCK can use. I've forgotten the exact requirements for the name but it's something like 8 characters.
    Best of luck.

I am trying to connect my JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder to my IPAD 2 via the Apple camera kit. I am able to download photos, but video files not showing. Camera shows Mass Stoarge. How can I download videos please?

The file name only has 6 characters and I'm not sure what the .mod format is. So that's why they are not seen by the iPad.
Another way to transfer. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • HT201302 When I travel with my SLR I like to transfer all photos to the iPad so that they are more easily edited and viewed by others, using the camera kit.  Occasionally I would like to export photos - I have not found a way to do this.  Can you help?

I occasionally have the need to export photos from the iPad to an SD card (photos that were imported using the camera kit). This is useful for e.g. to print photos while travelling.  So far I have not found this functionality anywhere, including in any apps available on iTunes.  Can anyone help?

The camera connection kit can only be used to import photo/video files from a camera, SD card or USB flash drive. You can't import other types of files. You can't export any type of files using the camera connection kit.

  • Lightroom mobile cannot import from the imported from camera kit.

    Hi,
I am new to Lightroom mobile and trying to make a new collection from the camera kit.
1.I have imported photos using my camera kit from an sd card. (file format is raw)
2.There are the imported photos on my ipad visible.
    3.On Lightroom mobile, I made a collection.
4.On the menu, I could see "Add From Camera Roll".
5.As I clicked "Add From Camera Roll", I can see "All Imported","Last Import" and "Magazine".
6.I could see one of the imported photos as the thumb nail photos of "All Imported" and "Last Import".
7.So, I clicked "All Imported", but it shows no photos with the massage "There are currently no photos to show".
8.I tried "Last Import", and it was same.
    The question is :
Did I do something wrong or camera kit imported photos are not yet supported on Lightroom mobile?
    Thank you for reading and
thank you in advance for the answerers.

For the version 1.0 we don't support the direct raw import on the device. Only jpg, png etc. - Guido

  • Connecting my ipad mini to my camera using the USB camera kit error message 'device is to powerful' keeps popping up.

I am trying to connect my iPad mini to my Samsung camera using the USB camera kit, I keep getting the error message ' device to powerful'. Is there anyway to fix this or do I need to take it back?? The shop assistant in Currys assured me it should work and it wasn't cheap at £25 for a tiny wire! I have read other posts concerning this but they are dated quite a while ago so just wondered what the newest advice was concerning this. Thanks

The camera is drawing too much power for your iPad. This can happen on cameras which charge their batteries using the USB connection. Make sure that you have the camera set to the correct settings for picture transfer - check the documentation that came with the camera.
Note that you can return the USB kit and get the SD card adaptor or get a powered USB hub if you can't get the camera to work any other way.

  • Camera kit accessory not supported

    Hi,
I have an iPad 1 and a camera connection kit that works fine. It was working up to a week ago on a new ipad2. I updated my mac to 10.7.1 and synced my ipad2 for the first time in a while before going on a trip. During the trip I tried to use the camera kit but the ipad2 is now saying accessory not supported. The camera connector still works fine with my old ipad1
    Any help or ideas?
    Paul

    Thanks for the reply
    - Both are the same version 4.3.5
    - The reset has not worked
    - Both the SD card reader and the USB device when plugged in will cause the ipad2 to say "This accessory is not supported by this iPad"
    - They both work on the old iPad and I can download the images
Interestingly, I also had a problem sync'ing some jpegs to the ipad2 and had to delete the latest folder so the sync could complete. iTunes was just saying that the ipad could not display those files, yes they're just straight jpegs.
I've backed up the device, I'm going to try a full reset

  • Import photos from iPhone to iPad with Camera kit

I want to import photos and videos from a concert from my iPhone to my iPad. I took the photos and videos back in October and i had to do a full restore on my iPhone and stared new becuase when i restored from a back up the same issues where still there. So i imported them in iPhoto and imported them back on my iPhone. Now when i connect the iPad camera kit only my camera roll shows up. I transfered all my photos via Photo Stream but i would like the videos too. I know i can import them from iPhoto on my iPad but i want to be able to delete them right on the iPad, like i can if i import them via the camera connector. Is there any way I can do this? I can email them too but i want to have the best quallity. Please help me out!

You most likely can't, as such is not supported by Apple.

  • IPad and Camera Kit

I plan on getting the Apple "camera kit" for the iPad, so that I can upload photos and video from a camera while traveling.
Apple says that you will be able to transfer photos AND video.
    But I had a question.
I will have a Canon DSLR T2i(rebel) that shoots 1080p HD video as well as 720p as well as 640 x 480 video.
I am also thinking of getting the smaller FLIP camcorders or the Kodak Zi8. They both shoot HD video, but the flip transfers via usb and the kodak has removable SD cards.
Basically, does anybody know if you'll be able to transfer 1080p video clips to the ipad? Or at least 720p HD clips?
Thanks for any and all help or advice concerning this question.
Also...not a question, but I hope Apple releases a "lite" version of iLife(imovie/iweb/garageband) for the ipad, like they did with iwork.
    Peace out.

I can't comment on 1080p but 720p videos from my Nikon D90 import and play on the iPad without a problem. RAW files and jpgs also import fine.
I also have a flip video ultra HD that will connect to the iPad and I can copy the files to the iPad but I cannot view them on the iPad. So with regards to the Flip video camera, the iPad can only be used as a backup device.
The weird thing is when I connect the flip video to the iPad, in the import screen, iphoto does show thumbnails for the individual clips. Perhaps, the flip video embeds a jpg thumbnail for sorting, preview, etc. or the ipads can view that file format but apple has decided not to include it in the OS.

  • Small CF card reader that works with the iPad Camera Kit?

I'm looking for a small (not much bigger than a CF card) CF Card reader that works with the iPad Camera kit (USB piece) - Anyone know of one?
All the ones I see people suggesting are big and bulky (made for a desktop). I know there are many smaller ones, but that the iPad camera kit doesn't work with everyone. Anyone know one that works with it?

My set up, quite compact for travel, this is a no brand version but I have seen other ones branded Integra or something similar.

I have used the Apple camera kit with a previous verson of iOS and it worked fine, but since I upgraded to iOS 6.1.2 the pad no longer recognizes the SD reader or the USB connector. However, when I go to "settings","about" the hardware is listed. Is this a software problem or is the camera kit obsolete?
