Camera LCD vs raw on pc monitor, color cast
Dear all, I have this doubt about my 5D mk ii. The image displayed by the camera LCD is very different in comparison to the file dislapyed by DPP on my monitor. I did not a calibration , but I tried also a couple of other monitors just in case. The difference is not only in saturation and contrast, but also in a different cast: magenta in the LCD camera vs more Green in the pc monitor. Is the camera applying some kind of preset to the raw in the LCD? If yes, how to disable this function, at least for the color cast? I use the faithfull preset in my picture style, so I don’t understand why this pretty big difference. Thanks in advance

Thanks in advanceThe camera's WB default is "Auto", and it will try to assess the ambient color temperature and make an intelligent guess. If it guesses wrong (and some models are much better at it than others, especially when tungsten or fluorescent light is present), you can always fix it in post processing. DPP gives you plenty of options - although, annoyingly, it doesn't keep track of the closest color temperature to the WB value it inferred, and the "color temperature" WB setting always starts at 5200 K (Canon's definition of "daylight").

Bridge Raw adds a blue color cast to every pic once opened in PS.
This happens with every picture. Whether I make an edit in bridge raw or just open it in bridge raw. Once I ask to open the image in photoshop the color cast is added. Please notice the navigator window image is normal. I have a new hard drive and just reinstalled Adobe Creative Suite 4 and the problem is still there. I do not know what to do.
Read up on color mangement. such strong differences in color point to a severely screwed monitor colkor setting/ color profile.

Color Cast in "Grid" Thumbnails
I have a strange color cast (pink) that only shows up in the "Grid" and only on the thumbnails of the original RAW file. This color cast shows up in the over-exposed highlights of my thumbnails and is "NOT" because the "Highlight Hot Areas" is turned on, although if I do turn "Highlight Hot Areas" on, the "warning area" is exactly the same area that is displayed in my thumbnails as the strange pink color cast. "On Screen Proofing" is "NOT" on. This has only happened since updating to Aperture 1.5
I don't shoot anything but RAW so I'm not sure if this happens with any other format that my camera can produce. If I select the thumbnail of the RAW file it displays normally in the "Viewer". If I make a new version or duplicate from the RAW file, the new thumbnails still display the color cast, but once I make an adjustment to the file, the new version thumbnail displays normally.
Here is a link to a JPEG of a screen capture that displays what I'm seeing. - http://www.robertolding.com/picture_2.jpg
These shots are taken with an Olympus EVOLT E-500
PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.8) 4.5GB RAM, Nvidia 7800 GT, 600GB RAIDhello, robert
this almost looks like the View/Highlight Hot Areas
(shift option h) is turned on.
it certainly is in the right spot where the image is
too hot.
does it show up in Full Screen also?
Maybe, delete and update preview?
victor
Hi Victor,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, as I stated in my original post, it does appear that the View/Highlight Hot Areas is turned on, but it is not.
The images showing in the Viewer display normally and the images in the Grid display the color cast. The only time that the images display normally in the Grid is after I've made an adjustment to them.
Viewing a image in Full Screen does not change anything that I've described.
Interestingly enough, files that were imported into Aperture before the 1.5 upgrade display normally. -
Ciao,
I have a problem... maybe this can be a stupid question but anyway.. I would like to know the reason why when I open a raw image in lightroom, for a second I see the right colors/tone/contrast that i see when i look at the same images on my camera and soon after the word "Loading" I see the raw files with different colors.
Why this happens???
Before "Loading" and --> after
Thank you so muchHey Giuseppe
I have a similar problem but the cause may be different from yours. I shoot a Canon 6D and as far as I know no one with the 5D MKIII has my issue, but maybe you could look into it.
Canon's Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop CC, as well as Lightroom CC, is automatically down converting my CR2 RAW files from 14 bit color depth to 8 bit color depth. This is screwing up my colors, contrast, gradients, etc quite a bit when trying to process RAW files in Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC.
You can read my thread here:
Banding due to automatic downconverting of RAW files to 8 bit
You might want to check and see if your RAW files are actually being processed in 16 bit color depth. There is a possibility that they are being down converted automatically for some reason.
The bit depth in Lightroom for RAW files is supposed to be 16 bit but when opening my files it just converts it down.
Try downloading Canon's Digital Photo Professional 4
Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EOS 5D Mark III
Use that software to process a RAW photo and convert to a 16 bit TIFF. I know this software truly gives you a 16 bit depth image. Then compare the result side to side with what you're seeing in Lightroom.
If you are having this issue, I have not yet found a way to process RAW CR2 files in ACR or Lightroom and maintain 16 bit depth.
If you are batch processing to JPEGs it probably doesn't matter, but my issue is that it is down converting BEFORE exporting and thus any edits I do become much more destructive on my 8 bit image than they would if I was editing a 16 bit image. I have to be able to keep things in 16 bit up until the point they go to the printer.
Sorry, this may not help you at all, it looks like there could just be a difference in White Balance, but I figured I'd throw my two cents out there and maybe you could see if this is actually what is happening for you, and hopefully eventually Adobe could potentially fix this bug. -
All versions of Adobe Camera RAW including the latest 7.3 import .CR2 images with a greenish / orange color cast.
Tested on 7D, and 5D III
Makes Hardwood floors, and flesh tones look abysmal.
Canon's Digital Photo Professional renders the colors fine, as does ACDSee 5.0 Pro (when viewing) Exporting from ACDSee however is another story as things look even worse than Adobe. DPP can export perfectly.
Changes to Color Gammut / Space have little or no effect.Good day!
You might want to post on the dedicated Camera Raw Forum.
http://forums.adobe.com/community/cameraraw
Also posting some screenshots might help illustrate the issue.

The monitor colors were abnormal
My Mac air has an external monitor, Dell u2414h, connected through DP cable ( Mini-DP to DP). In these days, I encountered a monitor color issue, might be a bug or a hardware problem, maybe someone have this experience to confirm that, thanks in advance.
the process:
1. The Mac air connected to the external monitor, Both of the internal an external monitors are used normally;
2. closed the Mac air lid, the external monitor was still opening at this time and the OS X system can be operated normally;
3. I left the notebook to do other things;
4. About five minutes later the external monitor went to sleep;
5. More than one hour later, I came back, the OS X system was sleep, opened the lid;
6. Both of the internal and external monitors' colors were abnormal, some application icons and the desktop wallpaper had red blocks; These red blocks on the desktop wallpaper didn't disappear automatcally, must to replace a new wallpaper;
The system.log has "GPU hang:" and "Trying restart GPU ..." messages;
The loginwindow crashed, and saved a crash report;
This issue occured several times;

Magenta color cast problem on canon 7d raw files
when i import canon raw files (cr2) into lightroom 3, i get a magenta color cast over the whole image. the thumbnail image looks fine, but when lightroom opens up the image, it get's a magenta color cast over the whole thing. i shot raw+jpeg mode too, and there's a huge differnce in color between the two. the jpeg looks like how i shot it in camera but the raw image has the ugly magenta color. not only do i get this ugly color, but it seems like there's added noise compared to jpeg image.
i tried converting the cr2 into a dng. but when i open that in lightroom, i get the same problem.
i use aperture 2.1 (i only use the lr3 trial so far), but i have the same problem there.
i use cs3 but i downloaded cs5 trial.
acr i have is 6.1
help.
thanks.Go to develop and the callibration tab and change it in the pull down menu to a canon default like 'Neutral' and not the adobe one which is made by somebody totally colour blind or obviously a Nikon fan.
Although this is weird as the problem for me has always been canon JPG's with the cast and not the RAW.
Also check your white balance cause Lightroom seems to change it whatever.. 'AS SHOT' is a big fat Adobe lie so use a preset from your camera in the drop down box.. Why? I shoot with Canon's flash WB setting which i know to be 5500k with the tint at zero. On import, Lightroom changes it to 6150 and adds an amazing +7 on the magenta tint, if i chose 'FLASH' things suddenly turn to what i see on the camera LCD.. I'm sure that is where the big fat tint has come from since day one. -
Odd, Color Cast After Opening Edited RAWs in PS5
I shoot strictly in RAW and open edit all my RAW files in Bridge 4.0.5.11 (CS5). All goes well here until I send the images over to PS5, where upon opening there, they all seem to have a much warmer, yellowish cast. Oddly enough, they'll print seemingly OK. Have I possibly gotten something set wrong in Photoshop that causes this wierd off-color cast?
Not enough information, but it sounds like a color management issue.
Jerry Brendle wrote:

No you don't. Bridge is just an image browser, it does not edit anything, it just hands the files over to your editing application, whether this be Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), Photoshop, Illustrator or even Microsoft Word. What version of ACR are you using to convert your raw files?
Calibrate and profile your monitor often and regularly, preferably with a hardware calibrator puck. Check all your color settings.

LCD TV as a broadcast monitor?
Hi all,
Was planning on buying a Cinema Display to do a 3 display setup:
1 - Macbook Pro - library/media
2 - Apple Cinema Display - timeline
3 - LCD flatscreen TV - monitor
Is it possible to use my LCD tv as a broadcast monitor. I`m assuming I would need to buy a ``Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter`` and daisy chain from the Cinema Display thunderbolt) to the LCD TV (HDMI).
ThanksSure, you can get a miniDisplayport-to-HDMI adapter to daisy-chain off the Cinema Display and it should work just fine.
LCD TV as client monitor.
Client? If these people are paying you money, shouldn't you guarantee how it's going to look? I guess it depends on your approach to your business, but what if the client is looking at the client monitor and asks you to adjust a certain color or brightness? How do you know if you're really giving them what they're asking for?
The issue is not whether you broadcast or upload. It's just that broadcast standards (i.e.REC 709) are also references for people doing quality work on the web. -
Hi all,
I would love to know if there is a way to ***disable the monitor (color) profile**** in LR.
WHY?
Cause all my pictures seems yellowish in LR, and not anywhere else (firefox, i.e, photoshop, xnview, etc...)
I solved the same problem in PHOTOSHOP, this way :
when loading images in photoshop, during starting up, I got this very message :
" The monitor profile 'LG L245WP' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. "
with two possible options :
"Ignore profile" or "use anyway"
Then if I use "Ignore profile" everything is fine!
If I select "use anyway" --> Wrong, all my pictures are yellowish.
That's why I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW, pleaaaaaase if I can do the same in LR.
I personnally didn't find, or what else I should do ?! Knowing that I do not have a ...too expensive!... calibration tool , and my monitor is a LG, L245WP.
----> Thanx sooo much for your help.
I would love to use LR, but this way I can't...
>kiwiii
form PARIS france ( excuse my english level).
NB : I read 2 threads here , but didn't find my solution : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/414524
and : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415180
NB : in one of these I downloaded this RGB picture :
http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/2161301-16291/Farbprofil-Kontrolle_re dgreenblue.jpg
where mostly the white in LR appears to be yellow.
Looks fine anywhere else, and in photoshop, if "Ignore profile" is selectedDdeGannes, Sean : thanx.
I went to my vista profil , added a profile in relation with my screen... but then which on should I select , between the several sRGB options :
- WCS profile : sRGB a file named wsRBG.cdmp
or
- ICC profile : sRGB IEC 61966-2.1 ?
( of course I have many more... but....none of the others are sRGB profiles )
Then have you both a calibrator, and you both did all the color "chain" from CAMERA to PRINTER ?
I am asking.... cause all these adjustments + buying a calibrator seems tough to me to manage/achieve.
You know : I'm not a professional ...
To me, non - pro, it looks even more dangerous to do so than leaving evreything in default mode & presets...
Should I do something wrong...
NO?
Moreover I mean : this is odd that my computer , or/AND (?) screen ,
doesn't have a "default setting" which would be suitable in LR , at least which no colour shift !
( I just change my LG screen mode to 5600K etc... and still I have the same yellowish gap in LR )
Why would my color management just be wrong in LR or Photoshop ?
Doesn't this light something I miss to you both, maybe professionals?
If I read you fine, + the other website... everything is kind of automatic now in every softwares... even xnview, firefox, (not i.e.) etc...
so why just LR + photoshop, would be mistaken on my computer,
and Firefox, Xnview, CANON softwares, Painter, ... all show the right profile & colors ???? This is sooooooo weird....to me.
I mean I got the the point that my whole color management is unshure...
but it nevertheless it should BE THE SAME through all my softwares... NO ?
Isn't there a general ADOBE setting somewhere, that might be bugged instead?
I still think , according to that, that we are missing something.
Sorry to bother you with my thoughts....
kiwiii ( paris - france )
ps/ Does really Photoshop detect the changes I would do directly on my screen ?
Because when I switch from sRGB, to 6500 K , 9300K or user... on my screen,
I STILL HAVE the PHOTOSHOP ERROR message :
" The monitor profile 'LG L245WP' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. "
I mean PHOTSHOP doesn't seem to notice (give a damn) on any change I make !?
As for the rest of my computer I never changed any COLOR PROFILE anywhere... So how do people do without a calibrator to use LR ?
Is it possible at least?
Is my screen (i thought so good) totally bugged, if none of my color profile is "ok" for photoshop & LR ?
THANX AGAIN FOR READING and helping me... -
I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling. I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working. I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
My network consists of 4 base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords. I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn. The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up. Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address. When the AEBS is set to bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS. I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS. In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding. However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope. What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have. I've hit the wall with what I know.
Thanks.In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first. -
Touchsmart monitor colors suddenly reverse
A few days after the trial period for Windows 8 expired I booted up to find that the monitor colors were reversed. What was black was now white, etc. I thought it was something Microsoft had done to provoke me to hurry up and buy 8, but after removing 8 and installing Linux Mint the problem continued. Someone suggested that it might be the video card since, they claim, Touchsmarts tend to cause the video card to overheat. Has anyone had this problem and how was it solved?

Monitor Colors wrong following a re-install of 10.3
I've fixed this once, a year ago, but have forgotten how!
I have had to re-install 10.3 due to some other problems but with this fresh system, the monitor colors are not quite right. For example, the finder icon in the dock is purple, the label colors are all wrong, not only in color but have blocks of different color in them.
I've messed with display preferences but cannot fix it. As I said this happened when I upgraded to 10.3 from 10.2.8 a year ago and I fixed it. Looking at the display preferences on the system where the color is OK and this one, I can see no difference. Calibrating the monitor did not seem to help.
Any ideas appreciated.I haven't had this exact problem but on a couple of occasions, when my normal user setup wasn't behaving quite correctly, I started up from a new account, copied the preferences (HD/Users/UserAccount/Library/Preferences) to a new folder at the root level of my hard drive, restarted as my standard user, then used the preferences from the new account to overwrite those in my standard account. Sometimes you won't be able to overwrite them because they are in use; then just move the ones that can't be replaced to the trash, move the new ones to your user account preferences folder, restart and empty the trash.
Hope this works for you. -
PP Program Monitor displays with a color cast
Hi all,
Having trouble with the display in the Program monitor. I'm working with still images at the moment. All the images have a strong blue cast when previewing. They look fine when exported, or if you click on the image to reposition, the color seems to correct, but as soon as I play the sequence the color cast comes back. Also, getting the same cast with .AVI video.
I am only having this issue on my laptop, all works fine on my desktop PC. Both machines are PC's running vista. I've also tried clearing my preferences and reinstalling PP. No luck.
I'm working in NTSC DV now, but have tried creating projects in HDV and others, and still have the problem.
Also, I've tried resizing the images, changing color spaces, etc, nothings worked. The images now are jpegs.
On another side note, opening the reference monitor causes PP to have an unexpected error and crash. Every time. Although this is not really the issue I am worried about at the moment, it might be relevant?
I've posted a sample of what the preview looks like here: www.jessicamans.com/PremierProCS4Issue/index.html
Thanks in advance for your help!
