Camera no longer recognized

I have been using Isight with Ichat for over 3 years with no problem. Suddenly my computer no longer 'sees' my camera in either Ichat or Skype. It also does not see my buddies cameras although they are connected and we can even do a oneway video chat from their side. There are no errors listed. I have replaced the firewire cable in case that was the problem. The camera is not visible in the system profiler either. The light on top of the camera is green and I don't really think it is the camera due to the buddies cameras not being visible either. I have reset the PMU hoping that would help but it hasn't. Any ideas? And if it is the computer would an USB camera work? I don't really want to spend a lot of money fixing a 3.5 year old laptop. Thanks, Jetje

Hi Jetje,
In iChat > Video menu is the Camera Enabled item ticked ?
In iChat > View Menu is Show Video Status selected ?
DOes the iSight appear in System Preferences > Sound > Input tab ?
And in iChat > Preferences > Video section > Microphone drop down ?
Does the iSight appear in other apps like iMovie ?

  • Camera No Longer Recognized by MacBook

Man, so I followed community advice from léonie on my computer (MacBook Pro_Early 2011_OS X Yosemite 10.10) to remove "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle" from the /System/Library/Coreservices Folder because my Canon Rebel T4i just shows "Loading..." when it's connected to either Aperture 3.6 or iPhoto 9.6 and never changes.  I then downloaded "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.07" and......NOW MY CAMERA ISN'T RECOGNIZED BY MY COMPUTER AT ALL!  Please help, I'm at a total loss as to what I should do now.

This reply solved my problem.  Thanks!

    John,
Your camera should not have been affected by the recent updates as it was supported from Mountain Lion OSX10.8 onwards
Sounds like you have a different problem try the following.
Close Aperture, restart the Mac then do the following
Hold down Alt and CMD and start Aperture, you should get a window with 3 options to repair or rebuild your Aperture Library or repair permissions, choose the middle option, if that doesn't fix the problem try the other 2 options.

  • Built in camera no longer recognized..

Just installed new hard drive, installed Leopard, iLife and iWork 09 and now my built in camera is no longer being recognized by iChat and other applications... Any advice?

Let's start by resetting the SMC as described in [this Apple kbase article|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411].
    Best of luck.

  • Camera no longer recognized via hub

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend:
They have a PowerBook G4 15" running 10.4.2 (including latest updates) and iPhoto (latest) patches. Until recently, he was able to have his Kodak DX3900 camera dock plugged into a powered USB hub and recognized by iPhoto.
Recently had to reinstall his OS and apply all the updates. Now, the dock-sync won't be recognized unless the camera dock's USB cable is plugged directly into his PowerBook. This is new. For months it was working through the hub. Tried multiple ports on the hub, always the same effect. Plugged in directly to the PowerBook's USB port the sync works on first try. Plugged into the hub, nada.
What can I look at to try and sort this out? Anything? Wait for the next update and pray?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I found somewhere in the user's manual that the cam HAD to
be attached to the computer, and not to a hub.
Usually that's a requirement for power reasons. There are powered USB ports and non-powered USB ports. Devices like mice use relatively little power so you can run them off of non-powered USB ports like the one in your keyboard. Devices that have greater power requirements either have to go into the computer directly (powered USB ports) or a powered-USB hub.
Although, you'd think the camera would be using it's own battery...
In this case, however, the camera used to work just fine when connected into a powered-USB hub. It just stopped recently, and I suspect due to updates.
    Any other ideas?

  • Cameras no longer recognized

I just ran the Security Update and now none of my cameras show up in the Finder, or Image Capture, or iPhoto. Plug them in and turn them on, nothing happens. I've tried two different cameras and a card reader, all of which worked fine last week. Now there is no way to download files from the cameras.
I ran Disk Utility and logged out and back in. Any other suggestions?

This is my PowerMac, not my laptop. There is no PMU. But I reset PRAM and it's still no go with cameras.

  • After updating to Mountain Lion- built in camera is no longer recognized

i have updated my software from lion to mountain lion on my 2010-2011 macbook pro; as soon as the update completed my macbook no longer recognized the built-in camera. i checked the support site for the error "there is no conceted camera" and followed all the steps. it seems that i have no USB tab in the utilities folder; restarting and shutting down my macbook didnt help either. i am not sure if the necessary drives for isight somehow erased during the update. any suggestions?

    Tried resetting SMC ?

  • Built in iSight camera no longer showing up or recognized by iMac

Hello there - I have a white 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with a built in iSight camera, and the camera is no longer showing up, or is not recognized by the computer any longer. Very strange! The little green LED by the camera is not lit any longer, and the camera is not recognized any longer by Photo Booth, iChat AV, or any of the other apps that would use the camera. This is a real pain, because I am leaving for France in a couple days and am taking my MacBook Pro with me, and am hoping that I can use iChat AV to talk to my kids at home on the iMac. I do have an extra iSight camera that I have hooked up to the iMac and can use in a pinch, but I really want to use the built in camera on the iMac. Any hints / ideas / suggestions on what to do for this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No, unfortunately that did not help. I did the following...
    1. See if the issue is application-specific. - Nope. Camera is not recognized in any of the apps that it should be recognized in, I tested iChat AV, PhotoBooth, ImageCapture, and iMovie.
    2. See if the issue is user-specific. - There's only one user account on this Mac, so I couldn't do that.
    3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight. I went into System Profiler and checked the USB profiler, and the camera does not show up.
    4. Reset SMC or PMU. These just looked like different ways of restarting, which I did multiple times.
I have also run my Software Updates (on OS 10.5, which I did with a clean install from an OS 10.5 DVD by the way) and still no camera. This problem started happening with the original OS 10.4 (which it came with) and I was hoping a clean install of the OS would help, but no.
I'm wondering if resetting the PRAM might help, but I can't remember those keys you hold down while restarting (was it Apple-Option-P-R ?) or if that is just reaching waaaaay back to the pre OSX days.
Here's the kicker though - if I plug in a FireWire iSight camera, all is well. I'm really hoping that the camera isn't jsut dead, but it's starting to look that way. Would Disk First Aid or maybe DiskWarrior help?

  • De-install Leopard Because Cameras/Scanners/Itouch No Longer Recognized

Leopard no longer recognizes my Canon SD600 or Epson 3170 in Image Capture. The whole OS has a MS instability feel. Itouch is no longer recognized. What's up??
Anyway Is there an easy way I can back out of the Leopard upgrade without blowing away all of my date files?

    Hi Chris Metz;
If you restore the backup you took before the upgrade to Leopard, that is the easiest way to get back to Tiger.
I have to say that none of my systems or those that I help to support are suffering from any problems with Leopard.

  • Canon SX260HS no longer recognized by iPhoto

After upgrading to Mavericks my Canon SX260HS is no longer recognized by iPhoto. When plugged in to a USB port the system report shows the camera, but iPhoto does not mount the camera. The camera briefly displays "communication error" on its display.  The SD card can be read by using a standalone card reader attached to another USB port.  Looks like some change to the camera communications in Mavericks is at fault, but other than using a card reader I see no solution.  Help?

Wow. You've answered nearly all the questions I was going to ask. What version QT are you running?
Try logging into another account on your Mac and see if the camera can be recognized there. If it is then there's an issue with your primary account. Also try booting into Safe Mode and again check to see if the camera can be seen in your primary account.
Booting into Safe Mode runs the File System Check (fsck) during the boot and only loads the basic minimum extensions, etc. needed by the system. See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X). Again this will see if there's something that you've added that is causing the problem.
A workaround until you find a solution is to use a card reader. IMO, it's the best way to upload from a camera.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Canon Powershot S2 IS no longer recognized by iPhoto

I have been unable to get iPhoto to import photos from my Canon S2 IS since the upgrade to 6.0.5. I have tried some suggestions from another thread -- running the 10.4.8 updater again as well as the iPhoto 6.0.5 updater again. Repaired permissions. Restarted of course. Reformatted memory card in camera. Tried different USB ports and cables.
I really don't believe the camera itself is the problem as it does appear on my husband's PowerBook (also running 10.4.8 and iPhoto 6.0.5).
Oh, and the Canon Image Browser is also not seeing the camera, but it does appear in the system profiler.
I'm at my wits end!!! Help? Please?
    Thanks.

  • LaCie firewire HD no longer recognized by my mac

I have a LaCie external hard drive that has worked flawlessly since I introduced them to one another.
I recently installed BootCamp to install Windows XP on a partition of my mac but when I came back to the Macintosh HD, the Mac no longer recognized my firewire drive as a valid disk.
    The message says:
    "Disk Insertion
The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."
Then it asks me to "Initialize..." "Ignore" or "Eject"
Since this drive has a lot of very important files on it (films that I have done), I do not want to end up erasing any of the data.
I tried what the apple site said and I connected it with a different firewire cable, but I still get the same message. I turned off the mac and reconnected it to no avail.
I was wondering if 1)Maybe the firmware update I installed to use BootCamp created a problem for the Firewire port, 2) maybe there is a driver issue that came about after installing BootCamp.
Is there a way to restore my iMac to before I installed BootCamp or the FirmWare update?
    Is there an easy answer?
I just need to get my external firewire hard drive working like old times without erasing anything.
    I appreciate any help.

Okay, I figured out how to run Disk Utility from the OS X CD.
It still doesn't give me the option to mount it:
Does that mean it is not a problem with the firmware update? Both of my external HDs are giving me this message too.

I changed my apple id, but my ipad does not allow me to change it for Icloud, so I can't  edit my account so I can access Icloud. I was told at Apple store that I could use both Apple ids, but my old one is no longer recognized on the appleid website, so my password for my old apple id won't work.
    Any suggestions?

If you only changed the name of your ID rather than creating a new ID, just go to Settins>iCloud and tap Delete Account then sign back in with the new name.  (Deleting the account from your phone does not delete it from iCloud.  Your data will be synced back to your phone when you sign back in.)
If you created a new ID, you'll have to go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn all data you are syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on your iPhone.  (If you are syncing iWork documents with iCloud, also open your iWork apps and turn off iCloud syncing and choose to keep the documents on your phone.)  After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using your other ID, then turn syncing for your data (contacts, etc.) back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to your new account.
You won't lose any photos in your camera roll or photo library.  If you have any photos in your photo stream that are over 30 days old that are not in your camera roll or saved on your computer, be sure to save these to the camera roll before deleting the account.  To do so, open the photo stream album on your iPhone in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you need to save to select them, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
