Camera not reading card

My 8 month old Eos 70D has decided "Card Cannot Be Accessed".  The only suggestion I can find for a solution is to format the card in the camera, but I cannot do this because of the error.  I suppose it will be a warranty repair but it is concerning after 8 months that this problem would occur.  Has anyone experienced this behaviour and how did you resolve it? I have tried different cards with the same result, pny and sandisk.

Welcome to Apple Discussions
First thing to check is the Finder Preferences!
Open Finder, then go up on the menu bar and select Finder > Finder Preferences. Now then in both the General and Sidebar tabs (sections) make sure that all the boxes are checked.
Also note that some cameras +(Canons and my new Nickon for examples)+ will not mount on the desktop or in finder, but if setup properly should open and mount in iPhoto or other selected photo software. To see and setup your photo storage devices, go to the Applications folder and open *Image Capture* and set it up to open the photo software you want to use.
If you think that you have a problem with the USB ports, check them with another device such as an External HD, iPod, etc.
If the ports are not working at all try the reset steps in the following article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1317?viewlocale=en_US

  • My HP SmartTouch mmc/sdhc not reading card

My HP IQ524 TouchSmart sc/mcc/sdhc reader not working evan with cards I have used previously

Hello 3commer.  I understand your media card reader isn't functioning properly.
Have you tried removing the device and reinstalling it?  Try the following and let me know the result.
Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.
Expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" section.
Right click on each device which is named things like "memory stick," "SD/MMC," and "xD-Picture" and select Uninstall.
    Reboot your computer.
When Windows loads it will automatically reinstall the drivers.
    Verify whether the problem persists.
    Post the result.
    Have a great day!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"

  • Sd card slot not reading card

I have a Pavilion dv5 1235dx running with Windows Vista. My sd car slot doesn't read the memory card anymore and if I explore to find the file myself it is not there.  But I know that the card is fine because other computers read it.  It worked in the past but has stopped working recently.  What should I do?

, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  Here is a lint that should help you with the sd card reader issue. HP Notebook PCs - Using and Troubleshooting Memory Card Readers (Windows 7 and Vista) Please let me know how this goes.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • Not reading camera card

I put my camera card in my macbook and it isn't even showing up on the desktop.  My friend with me has the same computer and hers opened it and registered it right away.

Remove it and reinsert it is what I do and it will usually pop up. If not go into disk utility and see if anything pops up and whether you can mount it or not.

  • My Mac Pro will read thumb-drive but not CF card reader

Can someone help me resolve this problem?
I just erased everything off my Mac Pro and reconfigured everything (as new). I installed all my programs, primarily Aperture3 and Photoshop CS5
    (using Leopard).
I had NO problem uploaded some photos into Aperture3 from a thumb drive using the USB port, BUT,
when I tried to upload photos from my card reader the MacPro does not recognize the card reader using the same USB port.
I figured the problem was a bad card reader, so I tested it on my PC and it recognized the card reader and uploaded all the photos.
Also, the card reader's green light turns on when attached to the MacPro, as if it is working and connected but it does not register in Finder or desktop to indicate that the card reader is installed.
I even tried to upload directly from my Canon 7D and it also did NOT recognize the camera.
Why would the MacPro recognize the thumb drive on the same USB port and not the card reader or the camera?
    Please help!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) will not read an SD card in the SDXC card reader. Does anyone know whats going on?

Hi David.  I don't have as modern a Macbook Pro as you, mine is a 2012 model, but perhaps I can help.  I often find that my SD card will not load when I first insert it.  I have to remove it and then put it into the slot again firmly.
You also haven't posted any information about the SD card.  What size is it, do you know how it is formatted, has it worked in that same mac previously, where did it come from, does it currently work in another device (such as your camera)?  This sort of information will help to narrow down the problem.
If you post some more information I'm sure people will try to help you.  In the meantime, if you look at your post again you should see "More Like This" at the bottom of the page and you may find an answer in some of those related posts.
    Hope that helps.

  • CS5 (camera raw 8.7.1) not reading Nikon d810 NEF files

I just purchased Nikon d810. I have CS5. All updates are current and I've downloaded Camera Raw 8.7.1 but Photoshop/Bridge still can not read NEF files. What am I doing wrong?

If you have Windows, go into the Control Panel > All Items > Autoplay
Uncheck Autoplay (I keep it off because I don't want Windows doing anything automatically, I like to make that decision).
Next to the Pictures category, set the drop-down menu to "Take no Action".
Then when you insert a SD card, Bridge would see it under "Computer", but you would have to double-click to open it, and go to the folder that has the pictures.
One warning: Don't do any processing off an SD card. Make copies and put them in a folder on your hard drive. Too much can go wrong with flash memory and it's unwise to work off it or an external drive. You want backups of your valued photos.
I don't think Bridge CS5 auto-imports Photos from SD cards, so you are safe there.

  • N95 suddenly not reading sim card

Hello I woke up this morning to find a comedy of errors with my n95 - after 2.5 months of perfect operation (bar a few resets) and with the latest firmware - the **bleep** thing refused to turn on despite leaving it on with the charger plugged and with full battery the night before. After several frantic attempts and battery reinsertion the phone burst back into life, but attempted charges came up with the message "phone not charging" this eventually went away but now the main problem.
The things not reading ANY sim card I put in it, these cards work in any other phone I put them in. Has the handset cocked up and needs to be sent back or is there some option I have not tried?

Does it ask for a pincode from cold start (switched off)?

  • SD card driver not reading

My Sony vaio is not reading my SD card from my camera. I installed the software updates and it didn't do anything. I checked under devices and drivers and it says the software is working.. but it's not. The SD drive has worked before, so I don't understand why it stopped. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi anasellares
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
Reformatting the computer will just reinstall the Operating System back to its original factory settings. It will reload all pre-installed applications and drivers. All third-party applications you installed will be deleted. And all software issue should be resolved. You have the option to do this right away but creating a backup is a must. The links above are combination of U.S support and non-U.S. support links. To isolate the issue, kindly try these steps:
Power Cycle - Remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds OR, if the battery is not removable, remove all peripherals-> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds
    Reset BIOS.
The drivers and software that support your computer are on this link: VPCSE13FX
Take note of the card that your unit can accommodate:
    ❑ "Memory Stick Duo"
    ❑ "Memory Stick PRO Duo"
    ❑ "Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo"
Just in case you are decided to format the unit, please follow the steps here: System Recovery from outside of Windows. (Steps 1,2,9, skip rescue, 16).
For further assistance, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
    Hope these options help.

  • IPhoto will not longer download photos from camera or memory card

Ok, I have iPhoto '08 and a Nikon D70 camera. This morning I went to download photos from the camera and it was slower than usual to connect to the computer. All the photos show up as usual but when I click to import them I get a message and it can't download any of the photos because they are an unknown format.
I took the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader and got the same message.
Neither the camera OR the card reader showed up as a device when I ran the image transfer app.
Using the card reader and the Finder, I was able to copy all the pictures to a folder which I was then able to import into iPhoto. After than I used the camera to reformat the card and took a test picture and got the same error messages.
    So, any ideas?

I found a solution in a couple of other threads. The main problem is when you start iPhoto from the dock, the unix process is owned by root, and not as it should be, by you. If you start iPhoto from the Terminal by entering /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto, iPhoto is able to import the images.
I don't believe that starting the applications from Terminal is a good solution, so I looked for another - reinstalling Leopard seems to be the best option, and it actually works. I can now import images to iPhoto again.

  • Camera Raw w Nikon D810-PS6 not reading files

Recently purchased Nikon D810, my PS6 not reading files. Tried downloading Adobe DNG Converter (8.6) as a work around, (but doesn't that reduce your original NEF file to about half?) and that didn't seem to work...Then I tried downloading the PS CC, (which I really didn't want to to do bc I just recently purchased PS 6, but I can't seem to get through the credit card screen... What am I doing wrong and once I do get the subscription, is PS CC now up to speed with these new RAW files for the Nikon?
    I am so frustrated
    Thanks
    K

Which operating system are you using?
Photoshop cs6 should be able to open the Nikon D810 files.
If in photoshop cs6 you go to Help>About Plug-In (windows) or Photoshop>About Plug-In (mac) and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it say?
Have you tried Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6 to get camera raw 8.6?
Also, how are you transferring the nikon nef files to your computer?
I ask because older versions of nikon transfer can corrupt the nef files in such a way that the photoshop camera raw plugin will not open them.

  • My MacBook Pro does not read XD Cards.

We're on vacation and took a whole bunch of pictures with my wife's Olympus camera. When we realized we left the cable home I went to Radio Shack and bought a Card reader.
My Dad's 10 years old HP computer has no problem reading the **** thing, while my overpriced because it works MacBookPRO what a joke laptop can't read it.
the reader is Converter Drive by Digital concepts.
Is this why we have supported the cool looking nerds at 1 infinite loop while everyone else was buying PCs? I'm an old timer (Mac since 87) and disgusted with all the small details and corners apple is cutting.
Can someone please explain how is it possible for the "leader" for the design community's computers to not be able to read something an HP can read.

I haven't had any problem reading XD cards with a pretty basic card reader on any of our Macs, Turk (MBPs, MBs, iMacs, PB's , iBooks etc)
The reader you have bought has some pretty awful reviews, I'm afraid. see http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Concepts-Flash-Memory-Reader/dp/B00178LEJA for example. You will see that PC users have problems with it too. PC and Mac users alike seem to have problems with it not just not reading, but melting! When 6 out of 7 users give a device a "1 star out of 5" rating you can be pretty sure its a dog. (Sorry, that is rather unkind to dogs when I think about it!).
I'd suggest you simply try a different brand of reader. I'd avoid the super cheapies like this one in future, though. This one, in particular, sounds like a serious fire hazard. maybe you are lucky it doesn''t work in your Mac!
    Cheers

  • Snow Leopard will not recognize camera or memory card

My Kodak DC3400 camera is not recognized by snow leopard. I have also pulled the card and used a card reader with the same results. Both the camera and reader worked until I installed snow leapord, so I know the usb connection from the camera is good.
I have also tried a different card reader with no results. This is an older camera that Kodak no longer supports so the driver is not available to download.
Any ideas why the camera and card are not recognized by snow leopard?
    Thanks!

Richard Blau1 wrote:16 Gig SD HC card // Must be that the old reader couldn't handle the sd hc?
    This is the problem.
Older standard card readers will not work with SDHC.
I also panicked on the same issue last summer.
Simply use the newer SDHC card reader that now come the size of a USB memory stick.
SanDisk makes a cool one I use 'MobileMate SD+'
Takes up no space in gear bag.
