Camera not recognized

For some reason, when I connect my camera to my iMac, iPhoto opens automatically, which I want it to do, but the camera does not show up in iPhoto. In fact "devices" isn't even displayed. Yet, when I open up Image Capture, it detects my camera. Does anyone know why this might be and how I can fix it?

If that doesn't help:
Start with the troubleshooting basics:
1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

My digital camera "Canon Powershot SX120 is" is not recognized by the devicemanager. I have read Digital Cameras.

The "camera"-Group isn't needed anymore and this group doesn't exist on my system.
The Powershot SX 120 has a  MTP/PTP connection mode (as the manual says). But:
    # mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6

There is no udev-rule for this camera. If i create one while copying a rule from a similar camera from /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules, and store it into /etc/udev/rules.d/69-canon.rules, the device-manager shows up. My udev-rule:
    # Canon PowerShot SX120AX (PTP/MTP mode)
    ATTR{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTR{idProduct}=="31e0", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1"
The device-manager shows me only the option to open with a file-manager. Doing so will result in an error:

Don't know what to do ... is a udev-rule necessary to bring up the message from device-manger? Or is the Camera not recognized as a mtp-device (the Camera has no such settings)? How could i figure it out?
With Digikam i could import Fotos, but i would do so with gwenview. I've tried to check it out with gwenview_importer:
    $ gwenview_importer --udi '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
gwenview_importer: Missing required source folder argument.
(don't care about the different udi, i took this example from a former try) but i don't know, how to find out where the "source folder" is ...

I have solved this by making an extra udev-rule for my camera. See my adventure on forum.kde.org for details

  • IMovie '08: Built-in iSight camera not recognized in Yosemite

    On this page
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS2472
iMovie '08: Built-in iSight camera not recognized
    it says:
    In Finder, navigate to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/
Select the file com.apple.mio.VDCAssistant.plist and delete.
    Restart your system.
You should now be able to use your iSight camera with iMovie.
However, in Yosemite, it only has this file name
    com.apple.cmio.VDCAssistant.plist
and I don't want to delete it as instructed without someone who knows telling me it won't hurt my newly installed and thus far working well OS 10.10.1, with iMovie 7.1.4 on my iMac 24 inch, Early 2008, 2.8 GHz Intel Dore 2 Duo, 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2  SDRAM.  It worked with Leopard, and I don't recall having to use the above mentioned support page.

Contact Apple. I believe you have a hardware issue there if it's not showing up in your System profiler.

  • Camera not recognized unless daisy-chained with external HD

I just bought a LaCie 250GB external FW drive to use as a scatch disk for FCE. Now my camera (Sony DCR-HC30) is not recognized unless I plug it into the LaCie. I borrowed a second camera (Panasonic), swapped the FW cable while the camera and HD were plugged into separate FW ports, and the Panasonic was immediately connected in both iMovie (v4) and FCE. I've tried the suggested fixes (unplug, Garageband, swap ports, new cable...) and the problem remains. I upgraded memory, QT and applied several patches prior to attaching the HD. Any suggestions? Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD? (I've not tried to import any video yet). Thanks

Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD?
    Yes and No, respectively.
(That's what I always did before getting an internal 200GB hard drive in my iMac.)

  • Camera not recognized any more....??

    Hello,
I have a Sony TRV-11 camera and its miniDV and have been using it for 5 years or so importing and editing and dumping footage back to my camera, no issue...
Now that I updated to iMovie HD it tells me when I click on Share to put my camera in VTR mode not Camera mode.
First I have VCR which is the same, and have always used the VCR mode to record back to my camera. The other options are Camera, which iMovie say its in, but iMovie is wrong, and Memory, which I don't even use....
So anyone else have a camera not being recognized by iMovie after updateing to HD? Any solutions? Suggustions?
Since I have three options and I am in the right one and iMovie doesn't believe me, now what?
And the same thing happens on my wifes iBook so its not just my Powerbook...
    Thanks

I had problems like this before I updated to HD and after I put Final Cut Pro on my machine. Look at :

  • Mini-DV footage does not import into IMOVIE/ Camera not recognized

Sony Mini DV tapes do not import footage using firewire. Camera is not recognized. I have done all the troubleshooting suggested. unplug, plug in, turn on, off, etc. I have bought new firewires and tried to import with many different mini-dv camcorders, sony, panasonic. It worked before, but not now.
I teach in a multiple mac computer lab and have 20 computers, non of them import, although they did earlier. Student-use film lab. HELP!

    Hi Harm,
Yes, that's exactly what I do with my EX3 footage too - ignore the XML error messages. That's a bit buggy in it's own right, well, not buggy but it should really recognise the EX folder/file structure and ignore the XML files - maybe one for a feature request!
The 350 is a great camera - very much more sensitive and lower noise than the EX3.
I still like the EX3 though, as it's small and light (relatively!) - the 350 is very light though in comparisson to other shoulder mount cameras. Nice low power consumption too
Some things I miss from the EX3 - like the joystick menu button and the direct edit of parameters on the VF that the EX3 has. I also like the EX3 picure profile system over the 350 way of storing profiles (more similar to the 700 I believe).
    Cheers,
    Paul.

  • Camera not recognized after update to mavericks 10.9.1

My MBP camera is not recognized by any applications since I updated the operating system to Mavericks. I updated to the latest version of Mavericks and still no luck. Does anyone know of a fix for this problem? Thank you.

Hey was facing the same problem with my girlfriend's macbook air, but i found a way to solve it:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
its already there in the support page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Hope it helps

  • Canon Gl2 Video Camera Not Recognized with Firewire 800 Connection

I have a late 2010 mac with 2.93 Ghz Intel Core i7 Processor with 12GB DDR3 running 10.8.2 OSX.  I have a Canon GL2 video camcorder with a MiniDV tape I am trying to download to my computer.  I am using a new 4pin to 9pin Rocketfish Firewire 800 cable. My computer is not recognizing the firewire input from the GL2.  As suggested with other support threads, I have tried to turn the mac and computer off and on, as well as check to see if the cable is working.  I have also tried both a trial version of Final Cut, and Imovie 09 which is loaded on my Mac, neither of which will recognize the camera.  I clicked on the System Information icon and looked at the Firewire 800 status which was:
    FireWire Bus:
Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices.
Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec
At least I know it recognized something.  I have also checked to make sure the Canon is set to DV-Out on the Menu.  Since I am unable to use a USB connector with MiniDV, would there be any other way to either A) Download the video to the computer, or B) get the Mac to recognize the source plugged into the Firewire?   Any help with this would be excellent.

I believe that in order to be recognized, you have to start the process from within iMovie of Final Cut; as for your FW port, you can try these two different troubleshooting steps (may or may not work, but won't hurt):
    Reset SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
It may that your FW port is defective; it that turns out to be the problem, I hope you purchased Applecare because those ports are an integral part of the logic board, so that would have to be replaced ($$$).
Since your footage is on DV tapes, you do need the FW to transfer it or it will not work. One other (involved) way would be to transfer your footage to a DVD if you have a DVD recorder and then get it on the Mac from there.

  • Unable to capture in FCP, Quicktime and iMovie, camera not recognized.

I am unable to capture in FCP, Quicktime and iMovie.
I have been dealing with this problem for quite a while now, and I think I have tried everything posted on these forums regarding this issue. I have been to the Quicktime, iMovie, and this FCP forum looking for the solution. Hopefully someone has a suggestion that I have missed or have not tried yet. I have a Powerbook G4 running OSX Tiger 10.4. I am running Quicktime 7.04, and FCP 4.5.
My problem is this… I am unable to capture from my Canon ZR-200 Mini DV camera, using Final Cut Pro, iMovie and also Quicktime. FCP says no camera recognized. iMovie says no camera attached, and Quicktime says no recording device found. In FCP, I am using the Firewire Basic setting, and NTSC DV settings. I have captured in FCP with the same camera several times in the past. I think the problem started when I upgraded to OSX 10.4, or one of the Quicktime upgrades.
    Here are the details…
    - Camera is connect via Firewire. I have tried the built in ports, as well as a Firewire Carbus card.
    - OSX recognizes the Canon ZR-200 in the System Profiler, so I know the computer sees the camera.
    - I have tried the camera on a Windows XP machine, and capture works perfectly, so I know the camera is functioning properly in VTR mode.
    - Deleted my FCP pref’s using FCP Rescue.
    - Deleted the Quicktime receipts, and re-installed Quicktime 7.04
    - Reverted back to Quicktime 7.01
    - Set the audio to 44.1 in the the Audio MIDI setup in the Utilities folder
    - Tried the “GarageBand” fix, opening the programing, playing a few notes and closing.
    - I have installed Quicktime using the program “Yank” to completely delete Quicktime and re-install.
I may have tried more solutions, but these are the fixes that I can recall.
If anyone has any others suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

  • Camera not recognized!  Green image only.

Here's a mystery for ya... I've got a brand new Powerbook G4, 1.67GHz, 2GB of RAM with a 120G harddrive. A few of the applications I can hook up my DV camera to via firewire freeze up, freak out or just plain don't work. On my older Powerbook (1GHz, 1G RAM) - no issues.
The camera is a Sony TRV-11
    The firewire cable works.
    The firewire port works.
    I am running Quicktime 7.03
Applications such as iMovie HD, iStopMotion and FrameThief, all of which work on the older Powerbook do not work.
I can, however, successfully capture and record back to the camera from Adobe Premiere.
I have tried deleting the Quicktime Receipts from the Library folder. I have tried downgrading to Quicktime 7.01. I have tried the magical GarageBand fix where you open it up, play a few notes and start up iMovie again. Nuthin. All I see in iMovie is a green screen. Neither iStopMotion or FrameThief recognize the camera... although, interestingly enough, the first time I ran FrameThief after downloading it, it recognized my camera. Restarting the machine with the camera on did not work.
    I'm at a loss. Help!

    everything is identical.

  • Camera not recognized. Was up to a few days ago

I've been using a Canon video camera FV-M10 mini-DV for live video (Skype/iChat) and also for importing video (mini-DV cassette) into Final Cut Express, After Effects or iMovie up until a few days ago.   Then all of a sudden (my MacPro) nor any of the software can recognize my camera anymore.   I can't recall if this came after the last security up-date from Apple a few days ago.  But, I've tried everything.  Both Firewire and USB connections using a few different cables. In Skype...(sometimes) it automatically shows the FV-M10 in the camera slot, but the screen is black.  No, I checked if I left the cover on.   Any ideas?   Geez, I'd better check my Sony WS5 digital camera and see if that is recognized.  Yes, both pics and AVCHD videos are seen using the Firewire connection.  Anyone have any ideas?  Please Help!  Is this an issue with the new Apple Up-Date?

    Hi,
Most computers with front and back Firewire and indeed USB ports have different controllers for them inside.
A look in the system Preferences should confirm this (Listed as Buses at least)
    My USB layout
Often Shutting down the computer with all periferals unplugged (cable wise) and waiting 15 minutes will get the ports and controllers to reset.
It may pay to try this.
Where the App is should not matter in this context.  (It does for Updating purposes)
Is this a camera that can play back other media/Devices and convert it in to DV for onward Firewire connection to the computer ?
Sometime they store in one format and can output in another. This allows them to act as DV converters.
This may bear some impact on the settings on the camera.
You said the Computer has 400/800 ports.
Do you mean it has one of each ?
Or do you mean you are using an Adapter and running some devices at 400 and some at 800 ?
It is likely that the camera is neither (System Profiler should tell you)
You seem to be clearly saying nothing has changed from when it worked
    I am just exploring ideas.
Is there any chance the Scratch disk is nearly full and is sending lots of data back and forth to see what it can drop/lose?
Has the app that uses it been shut down recently.
Have you increased the number of Undos that it can do ? (This will store more Scratch data)
Have you stored anything else on that disk that is in use or takes up a large portion of the space ?

  • TS3850 I am using a Sony HBR -VLU camera to import into Final Cut 10. Plugging into an I MAc that doesn't have a firewire port. The camera is not being recognized by the computer. The camera is set to play tape too. Why is camera not recognized?

I am trying to import from the camera into an I-MAC. I'm told the I-mac does not have the firewire port, but has thunderbolt. Is the only way to get video from the camera via a firewire port? Is someone giving me bad information as to the firewire port not being on the I-MAC? The camera is not being recognized. Thanks in advance.

Apple has moved on from Firewire and the current iMacs (and most MBPs) have Thunderbolt, USB3 and USB2.
There are Firewire toThunderbolt adaptors. Here's one. You also want a four pin to nine pin FW cable to run from your camera to the adaptor.

Try changing your capture presets to one that matches your camera, and of course make sure your camera is in VTR/VCR mode. Make sure you are using Firewire.
If this doesn't work, run through the regular trash prefs, repair permissions, etc.

  • Iphone camera not recognized in Windows 7

    Hello Fellow iPhone users
I am having a problem with the iPhone camera on the iPhone 3g 3.0. I cannot get it to allow me to open up the camera to get the pictures off of it. When I go to Devices and Printers it shows the Apple Mobile Device USB driver and that is installed fine and it works in ITunes, however, it also shows the iPhone but with the yellow triangle and exclamation point. It says that the driver is not installed properly. The status is needs troubleshooting. When I go to properties, it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". I have tried reinstalling iTunes, unplugging, replugging the iPhone. I have tried a different iPhone (a 3GS with version 3.1.2) with the same results(they both work fine in XP).
I have been trying to get this working for a few hours and have no idea what is wrong. Are there any other drivers I can get? How about reinstalling the usb drivers? This is on an Acer netbook, and it was working with Windows 7 starter, but when I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, it stopped working. I assume it is a driver issue, but I don't know what other drivers I can use or which ones to change out. Other USB cameras are working fine.
Please let me know if you need any other information.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Windows sometimes won't detect the phone and allow camera/scanner access if there are pics on the iphone not taken by the iphone camera. Email any non camera taken pics to yourself, download them on your computer, then delete the pics from the iphone. When you reconnect your computer it should start the camera/scanner download as usuall.
