Camera options other than iSight

Here's my challenge. I have an old Mac G4 and still not ready to upgrade, and when I do upgrade it will be to a MacPro. I've upgraded the machines of my wife and kids, and they all have built-in cams. I now want to add a camera to my computer, but as you all know the iSight is not availble.
Are there any other webcams that are Mac compatible? If so, please point me in that direction. Thanks.

Options, other than Isight

I have had no luck with 2 new isight cameras. Both had problems. The second one suddenly quit working with Ichat & Skype even though it worked with other computers and programs after a fresh resinstall.
Then I found a free program called macam at the source forge website. I was able to get my Hawking DC1300F camera to work with OS 10.3.9 with Quicktime & Skype but not Ichat or Imovie. I wish they had a patch to work with Imovie too.
There is also a program usbcam or something that makes usb cameras work with Ichat. No luck so far with that program working on my setup

Webcams other than isight

does anybody know of any webcams other than isight that will work with a mac, all i can find are ones for pc's??
or do webcams for pc's work with a mac?? thanks!

As the drivers for cams get added to the OS rather than which App you use. The link to those at iChatUSBCam will work.

Of course some of these may only be written for PCC Macs. There may be no Universal code written ones for Intel Macs.

What are the options other than iCloud for a "full" iPone backup?

With iCloud you have limited options to increase the size of the capacity for backups:
5gb - Free
20gb - .99/month
200gb - 3.99/month
500gb - 9.99/moth
1TB - 19.99/month
With such a big gap between 20gb and 200gb, I am looking for feedback on other cloud options other than iCloud that will backup everything on my new iPhone 6.

Managing the backup of your phone starts with knowing what is backed up, what is NOT, backed up and how to manage your data/phone content.
What is NOT backed up to icloud:
Apps, music, and any other iTunes purchase.
What IS backed up to icloud:
your personal information, settings and data
if you open settings, icloud, storage, manage storage, show all apps.
this shows your app data amounts in decending order. You can turn off backup for any app that doesn't need iCloud backup. For example, I use Dropbox which auto uploads all my photo and video when I connect to home wifi, so I do not backup camera roll, so I turn the switch off. I do backup data from other apps, but not all of them.
I backup an iPad and iPod touch to the same iCloud account with the 5 free GBS and have not needed more than that.

1-Do some more reading about a Windows "upgrade version" which, according to my experience, does NOT require you to format your drive... it upgrades over what you have, without disturbing installed programs... at least that is what happened the ONE time I installed an upgrade version, so I can't give a 100% assurance it will work that way with your computer... search link for all things Microsoft http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US

If you installed a Security Update early this month, about the 2nd or so, and not one since then, run Software Update - if it offers another Security Update, accept and install that one. The original Feb 2012 update had some flaws with regard to MS software in particular; the follow-up update fixed those.

No option other than always ask

I am new to the E71.
First I was surprised there was no connection groups and that a 3rd party app is required.
I tried SmartConnect set up WLAN as first option and 3G as second, but unless I had a 3G signal it would not work even if it was routing via the WLAN.
I am now trying PSILOC Connect software, this seems to work better except I now seem hjave no option other than always ask for incoming mail server and if I have Fring up and running first it says WLAN is already running stop the connection first if I try to pick up an email.

"Access point groups" was a feature in previous Eseries phones based on S60 3rd Edition.
That Eseries specific thing was apparently not "ported" to S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 based Eseries devices like the E71 for some reason.
This is also now a feature ( "Destinations" ) in S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 and devices based on that.

By a reset, I assume you mean pressing and holding both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear? Is the hold/lock switch in the On position?
If you cannot get the iPod to reset, your only other option at this point is to just sit and wait for the iPod's battery to full drain. Then charge it back up and restore in iTunes if necessary.

Using cam other than iSight built in

Hello Everyone - trying to use a camera other than the built in i-sight for more flexibility. How does one turn off the default built in cam so that a USB cam can be used? Thanks for the help - Carlyle

Hi,
The External iSights are of some vintage now in computer and device terms.
However if kept up-to-date firmware wise it will still work well in to to Snow Leopard.
First check it is being seen in the System Profiler.
This can be accessed by holding the ALT key whilst selecting the Apple icon menu and then the top Item (If you don't hold ALT this items reads About this Mac and if that is used the More Info button also gets you there)
You need to open the reveal Triangle and look in Hardware and Firewire.
If it does show it should show you the Firmware is at 1.0.3
(For Snow Leopard Users. This does seem to make a difference in Snow Leopard despite Apple saying it was only an Audio Update).
Having the External iSight connected to one firewire port and having Hard Drives or other devices connected as well (daisychaining)c can be an issue as the iSIght sends data at a different rate to Hard Drives.
If yours is a newer MacBook Pro that has the Firewire 800 port then you need an Adapter (800 to 400).
I have heard that it pays to look around and read what other people have said works as not all adapters are equal it seems.
If the System Profiler show the Camera then try other apps (Photo Booth, Quicktime (Pro in Leopard if you have the Pro bit) or any other app that can access the camera)
The test in another Mac User Account.
If you don't have one then create one in System Preferences > Accounts.
(I have one called Test and have some of the same iChat Details entered there for Testing)
Try a different FIrewire lead to the camera.
I have read that often changing this solves it (not that the leads fail more often than the camera but it worth a test.)
If you can, try a different computer (If your computer has two or more Firewire ports then check those)
Next Unplug all Firewire devices from the computer and shut down the computer (In the case of a Laptop also Unplug the power)
Wait 15 Mins as this then resets the Firewire controllers (You have to wait long enough for various capacitors to discharge that help retain info on counting/allocating ID numbers to devices that are/were attached which is why Laptops need the power disconnected as well).
Summary.
Check System Profiler and tells what it says.
Try other apps and report on your findings
Try another Mac User (And those same apps) and report back.
Try a Firewire port Reset.
Check the camera on another computer
Try a different Firewire cable/lead.

Does Video Effects work with cameras other than iSight or Built-in cameras?

I am using Leopard with iChat 4.0. I recently purchased a Logitech QuickCam Deluxe for Notebooks. It works great with Photobooth, however I cannot get Video Effects to work with iChat. Is there a solution for this?

There's the answer. iChat video effects require an Intel processor or a multiprocessor PowerPC computer. Your only solution to get Video Effects to work with your iChat is to trade computers.

Any Options other than rebuilding solution in Captivate 4?

We developed a solution using Captivate 5.....now we found out that it cannot publish using AS2.... and some users are using Flash 7 (no control over it).
Are there any solutions rather than purchasing Captivate 4 and rebuilding it in Captivate 4?
For Example:
Converter for C5 to C4
A plugin to enable backward compatibility for saving as C4
A plugin to enable Flash 7 to run solutions built with Captivate 5
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no Cp5 to Cp4 converter I'm afraid, and Cp5 (like all previous versions of Captivate) does not allow you to save a project to an earlier Cp file format.
You cannot copy Cp5 slides and past them into Cp4 and retain all objects. You do however have the option of copying a Cp5 slide and pasting it into Cp4 as an image if that's any good to you.
I realise that Cp5 only supporting AS3 will be a disappointment to you, but this fact has been quite well publicised ever since Cp5 was released.
I take it when you developed your solution using Cp5 you were unaware that the client was stuck on Flash 7 with no plans to upgrade? If at all possible I would suggest that this client is being very backward in their thinking. AS3 came in with Flash Player 9. Could they not even consider upgrading as far as that?

Webcam other than isight

so my boyfriend and I are apart for this year while i am still in college and we are looking into chatting online and being able to see each other (i guess, video conferencing in a way). I have a powerbook G4 and he has an ibook G4. Neither one of us can afford paying $150 for isight and so we would like to use something cheaper that would work and last us a year. Does anyone know what kind of webcams are mac compatible and would work? (spending $70 per webcam would be more affordable than $150) . Thanks..

If you want to use one of the cheaper USB cams, look at the camera guide on iChatUSBCam's web page to find a USB camera that will work.
The "Which digital camcorders can I use?" and "FireWire WebCam Driver" links will show you some of the Firewire cameras that will work if you decide to stay with Firewire cameras.
