Camera Profiles/ Camera Raw 5.2 for Panasonic DMC-G1

I installed the Camera Raw update in Elements 7 and also ran the Camera Profiles executable in C:\program files\adobe|photoshop 7\plug-ins\file formats. When I open the raw image, I see "Camera Raw 5.2 - Panasonic DMC-G1" in the upper left hand corner. Now if I click on the Camera Calibration tab and look at the Camera Profile Name drop-down, I only see Adobe Standard. Does this mean the DMC-G1 is not supported yet or is there something wrong?

Lest there be any confusion, Jao is talking about ACR profiles that are tailored to the several shooting modes of some cameras. The DMC-G1 is definitely suppported within ACR 5.2, but only with one profile, the Adobe Standard for that camera. I went to the folder containing the standard profiles, and the DMC-G1 was one of them.

  • How do I open raw files from a Panasonic DMC-GF5 using Elements10 on a PC?

How do I open RAW files from a Panasonic DMC-GF5 camera using Elements 10 on my PC?  When I try to open a Raw file I get a message 'wrong type of file'

I believe you need ACR 7.1 which PSE10 cannot be updated to.
Use the DNG Converter to make DNGs from the RAW files and those should open in your older PSE version.
You can also buy a newer version of PSE.  Perhaps do a Trial (Try) of PSE12 and see if PSE13 comes out in the next week or so.
The DNG Converter can be found on this page:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates

  • Cannot install camera profiles in Raw 5.2

After re-downloading Adobe Raw 5.2 and running the CameraProfiles.exe program and restarting my system I still cannot find any camera profiles under Camera Calibration other than the standard ones in either Lightroom or Camera Raw. I click the dropdown menu in Raw and click Load Settings, but cannot find any camera specific settings. I am running Photoshop CS4 and want to set it up for my new Canon 5D Mark II. Any suggestions?

You are aware that the camera profiles do not have a name the reflect
what camera they are for? The software populates the list with names
like "camera faithful" and "camera landscape". These are selected to fit
what ever camera took the picture and they use the same name for all
camera models. So if names like above are on the list, then they are the
correct ones for the camera you used. It is confusing that they are not
    labeled with the camera model.

  • Histogram inconsistencies with Camera profiles - Camera Raw

    Hi,
I've been going nuts with this issue for a year now since Adobe released the camera profiles for Camera Raw. Something tells me this shouldn't be happening.
Well exposed pictures taken with the D300 show an inconsistent histogram in camera raw when using the Adobe camera profiles for the D300.
This is a shame because I prefer the colour rendering of the camera profiles to that of the adobe standard profile.
    This is the problem:
With the D300 I get a correct histogram in Camera Raw only if I choose the ACR 4.4 or the Adobe Standard profile. By correct I mean with black and white points filled to the edge of the histogram.
If I choose the camera neutral, standard, portrait or vivid suddenly there's an empty area in the histogram's blacks. Effectively the black point has been shifted quite a bit and I need to push up the slider for blacks up to 30 or so to get the black point back to the right place. While with Adobe standard the blacks are correct at 0 or so. Check out the pics here below.
Is this normal behaviour, or is there something wrong in my settings?

Nice pic of brain Bill. Still, I would   take it without any harsh light and rather use longer exposure with  tripod. You can see some sort of light source in left bottom part of  brain. I assume it was a flash gun or above by lamp. Then you may get  much better result ;-)
Thanks. The shot was taken using the Nikon R1C1 closeup flash unit using the diffusers to help eliminate glare. With such specular sources, one must adjust the light sources carefully to avoid glare, but the only sure way to eliminate the glare is to use crossed polarizing filters. Still, the subject is short scale and one must set the white and black points.
Now, to discuss your posted shots. If anything, your posts confirm my initial assertion, since you are correcting post processing and not by changing exposure in the camera. The corrected images are from the same raw expsosures with postprocessing. By the way, if you post your screen shots as PNG, you will eliminate the artifacts around the text.
I put some links of  images to explain my point since we still talk about something else.  (cannot insert pics via adobe).
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/cairngorn.jpg
Brilliant example of screwed up "I have  been there" photography. Exposed not very well and at worst light  possible. Must go there once again and fix my incompetence.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/cairngorn2.jpg
Cairngorn is short scale because of atmospheric haze. There is no way to correct that with in camera exposure, but you could have exposed more to the right. Nonetheless, you have captured the whole dynamic range of the scene and exposing to the right would only improve the signal:noise. You had to use the exposure and black slider to set the white and black points, which only confirms what I said in my previious posts.
somehow "fixed" previous image. just for  fun and learn PS CS4.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad.jpg
overexposed image at first glance by  untrained eye.
Hrad is a high dynamic range scene with blown highlights. Your use of the exposure control to bring down the highlights darkens the rest of the image to an undesirable degree. It would have been better to use recovery to tame the highlights. A better approach might be to deveolp for the highlights and shadows separtely and merge the results as shown below. Again the correction is in postprocessing. There would be no way to do that with a camera exposure. The use of +1EV in ACR in HRAD3 only worsens the highlight clipping.
    http://imagingpro.wordpress.com/2008/12/03/expanding-the-dynamic-range-of-a-single-raw-fil e/
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad2.jpg
same image with 1EV extra without of any  detail loss. miracle of digital sensors.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad3.jpg
final image. it is just for web, so no  bother about burned sky...
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/tunka.jpg
again, overexposed image at first glance  by  untrained eye. we don't care about clipped shell in the left middle  of image. it is not main interest of pic...
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/tunka2.jpg
..and we again get 0.50EV extra which  corrects clipping.
I don't see any evidence of overexposure. The highlights are well short of clipping and the shot is grossly underexposed--not exposed sufficiently to the right. Nonetheless, the full dynamic range of the short scale scene has been captured and the shadows are well above clipping.
In case some will wonder  about weird setting of ACR. It is just for web and I still don't know  all tricks of PS. Furthermore, I prefer to spend time in nature rather  than in front of computer.
The settings of ACR are indeed wierd. Thomas Knoll recommends setting the highlights with the expsoure slider and the midtones with brightness. An alternative way of doing this, introduced with Lightroom, would be to set the midtones with exposure and control the highlights with recovery. A black point setting would likely be required as well. Again, no way to do that with an in camera expsoure, validating my previous assertion.

  • D810 RAW conversion in LR 5.6 shows posterization at certain camera profiles: Camera Standard, vivid, monochrome that it does not show with identical photos from a D800. Is this bug already known?

Never had this problem seen before in all my years of LR use. I use a test-chart with a continuous gray bar (from dark to light). Normally use Camera Standard profile to develop all my D800 RAW files with no problem so far. Got a D810 to test this week and did some tests using the same target. Suddenly there are some ugly posterization effects in the gray bar to be seen that can only be eliminated with heavy color-noise reduction or by switching to any other profile but Camera standard, Camera Vivid, Camera monochome.
The following 100% crop shows the effect from a D810:
And this is the same crop from a D800-shot:

  • Where can I download raw file converter for panasonic gh4

Is aperture raw file converter compatible with Panasonic GH4

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH4?  That camera is not yet supported, see the list of currently available RAW support:  http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
It usually takes a few month after the release of a new camera for the RAW support to be available. As a work-around, use the software that comes with the camera (probably SILKYPIX Developer Studio), to convert your RAW to a different lossless format (e.g. TIFF), while you are waiting.

  • RAW support for Panasonic DMC-FZ1000.

My research indicated 5.2 supports the DMC-FZ100 for RAW.  I just purchased and installed upgrade to Lightroom 5.2 from 4.4 but it does not support the camera in RAW.  Non-support message is received when trying to import RAW files from the camera.
    Help?

So, is it the FZ100  or FZ1000? The latter requires Lightroom 5.6 or newer. If you click on Help->Updates in Lightroom you will be guided to update to Lightroom 5.7.1. But when you start that version it will advise you that there is yet another upgrade. That would be to Lightroom CC/6. If you don't want to go that route right now just click on the ignore button in the lower left-hand corner of that notification.

  • LR 4 and custom DNG camera profiles... they are not embedded?!

i have the colorchecker passport for some days.
    my workflow:
import the .CR2 raw files from memorycard as DNG copy into lightroom.
create a DNG camera profile with the colorchecker passport (LR export -> xrite colorchecker).
then i choose the created camera profile and i set the whitebalance.
all working fine... as it should.
my problem is, i don´t want to have a hundred DNG profiles, i will sure create that much over the time, on my harddisk.
i think it´s messy and it´s also not very save to have the profiles only as separate files, in case you lose the profiles.
i thought the camera profile can be embedded INTO the DNG file.
i thought the camera profile is written into the DNG files when i write the metadata back into the files.. but it seems not.
it seems the DNG camera profile is only embedded into the DNG image file when i EXPORT the DNG file again with the LR export dialog.
    for example:
i choose the camera profil "MY 5D MK2 PROFIL_1" for an image and then save the metadata back into the DNG image file.
then i delete the camera profile "MY 5D MK2 PROFIL_1" from harddisk.
the next time i open LR and select the same image ... the cameraprofile is reverted back to "adobe standard" and the profil i have created is gone.
when i EXPORT the image as DNG, then even after i have deleted the DNG cameraprofile "MY 5D MK2 PROFIL_1" from the hardisk.... the profil is still in the DNG image.
that´s what i want... but i have to export all files again as DNG files.
i would really like to get rid of this extra step.
i hope my english is good enough so you understand what my problem is.
can anyone share a light on this?
is this the only way to embedd the DNG camera profile or im doing something wrong?
    intel i7 2600k, win7 64bit, 16 GB ram, LR 4 final.

possible.... but imho that can lead (at least in my case ) to problems.
in the case when you forget to update the DNG manually and delete the profiles (because you think they are already embeded via STRG+S).
or when you send them to someone without updating the DNG preview... i think that is unessesary complicating things without gaining a real benefit.. not?
afaik there is no filter option so you can create a smartfilter for images that need to be updated this way?

  • Pscs 4 adding new camera profiles

adobe customer support doesn't support ps4 or bridge so when i bought a new camera i can't use bridge v3.0.0. and ps 4 v 11.02 to open and work on photos, running OSX 10.4.11 on a dual core macbook pro.when i tried to update camera raw v5 to v5.6 i got an error message then updater detected a new version than v5.6 yet i can't find it using spotlight nor lookin gthru hds.
so without any direction i drug & droped the G12 profiles into Lib>ap spport>adobe>camera raw>camera profiles>camera with shows the profiles but ps & bridge isn't able to acess them.
the question is how do i download the new canon G 12 camera profiles in computer so bridge & PS can edit files or do i just give up?
    thank you
    jene

    G12 isn't supported directly in CS4/ACR5.x.
You need to use DNG to get support for that camera in CS4:

    Thanks.

Go to File Menu and opt for Open As option.

  • Can't read Panasonic DMC G5 RAW in Elements 8

Transferring to new PC. Successfully installed elements 8 on new PC, but can't read RAW files for Panasonic DMC G5. Worked OK on old PC. Remember doing an update to solve this problem on old PC, but don't know what it was and can't find out what I need. Have tried Camera Raw 6.2 update without success. Any suggestions?

The Panasonic G5 raws were first supported in ACR 7.2, which is only compatible with PSE11 and higher so it’s unclear what you were doing on the old computer that made it work, unless, maybe you converted your G5 raw files the DNGs with the DNG Converter and then they would have been compatible with the older ACR plug-in.

  • Can I download raw images from my Panasonic Lumix DMC - FZ45 to my iMac using Aperture3 ?

I want to start using Aperture3 as long as I can handle Raw images from my Panasonic DMC-FZ45 with it but that camera is not on the list - will it work?

If the camera is not on the list then Aperture will not be able to handle the RAW images from the camera.
It's surprising as this is a relatively old camera, so if it's not in Aperture by now I would  tend to think it won't be included. You could download the trial version and see what happens just to make sure.
One other thing, you could convert the RAW images to DNG using the Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter for Macintosh and then import those.

  • Iphoto 6 and Panasonic DMC-FX37

    Hi Everyone
I wander if you might be able to help me with an issue I have with a new digital camera and iphoto 6.
I use iphoto 6.0.6 and I have recently upgraded my digital camera from an Olympus 410uD to a Panasonic DMC-Fx37 and found that the pictures of the Panasonic are only visible in the main Library (size 5394 pictures). If I look in any of the iphoto default folders such as Last 12 months or year folder 2009, the Panasonic pictures do not show up. In fact the only way to get the pictures to become visible is to create a Smart Album for just the Panasonic, using the camera model as a way of selecting the pictures. I first noticed this quirk when I had synced my IPod. The iPod does not Sync the main Library but only the iphoto and user generated ones. By creating a smart album for the Panasonic pictures I have managed to back up the photos to the iPod, but the problem of iphoto recognising the photos in the default folders is still unresolved.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem or I am stuck with this?
    All answers gratefully received.
    Kind Regards
    Working Man

    Hi TD
Thank you for your assistance todate and as you seem to have taken as interest in my iPhoto problems, I thought I woudl post you an update. I followed your advice and downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and went ahead and rebuilt the Library. Everything was going to well until the build process was cancelled when rebuilding last one or two rolls - the rolls that contain the FX37 files. The result was iPhoto shut down and produced a log saying that the following files are corrupted (FX37 photo files). The files are still in the main Library and can be pulled together as a smart album under the cammera name and edited at will, but the dates are not recognised and therefore it does not show up when trying to search for these in the main Library. Another quirk is that the last two film rolls are out of sequence with the previous ones, so roll 261, 262, then roll 454 etc.
I intend to try the following:
1 check iPhoto with my older camera to see if pictures from this import correctly. (thereby elimnating the iPhoto; and
2 check the SD card inside my Panasonic FX37 and try it in my Olympus and then reimport a test picture;and
3 check the panasonic camera with a different SD card with a test picture;and
4 Back up the FX 37 photos and delete from the main Library and reimport;or
5 Create a new library and reimport from the back up.
Any Advice would be gratefully received.
