Camera Raw 4.0 unusable in Photoshop CS2

If you have Photoshop CS2 and you download the latest RAW 4.0 update, forget about opening any RAW files from cameras produced in the past year and a half or so. As a clever marketing move Adobe has disabled all functionality for RAW cameras once covered under RAW versions 3.0 through 3.7 when using the RAW version 4.0 in Photoshop CS2. Why would they do that, you ask? To sell more software, of course!
The RAW 4.0 update adds only the Panasonic DMC-FZ8, a camera that I recently purchased. But, if I want to view RAW files from this camera I have to upgrade to Photoshop CS3 or buy Lightroom 1.0, and that is exactly what Adobe is hoping. Suddenly my Photoshop CS2 program has become obsolete because in addition I can no longer open RAW files from my Nikon D200. What is so difficult about making the RAW 4.0 plug-in compatible with other more recent Photoshop programs? Absolutely nothing! Adobe cares more about selling new software than they do about customer loyalty. Such a marketing practice is unfortunate and, in my mind, reflects poorly on Adobe's business ethics.

"I think a nice compromise to the ACR things is to design the next full version of upgrade of ACR (in this case 4.0) so that it will work with the last version of Adobe Photoshop (in this case CS2)."
Yeah, ok, here's the problem with that...Mac CS2 required 10.3.9 or above...Win CS2 required Win 2K or XP/SP2...Photoshop CS3 (and Camera Raw 4.0) requires Mac 10.4.8 and Win, XP/SP2 or Vista.
So, you code to the latest APIs of the system (10.4.x, XP/SP2 or Vista) and you are supposed to magically make a plug-in work on older APIs of the previous version of Photoshop? Even though, to progress and advance (and hopefully optimize) you commit to using the new APIs. So, how ya gonna make Camera Raw 4.0 work in Photoshop CS2-disable it for 10.3.9 and Win 2K? Forget about using new API's and suffer through the old ones?
So, you say, well, just keep updating Camera Raw 3.x...ok, for how long? Forever? For 1 quarter? For a year?
So, you got the Camera Raw engineering team (3 guys) taking time away from Camera Raw 4 to re-write code for Camera Raw 3 for cameras that weren't even sold when Camera Raw 3.x shipped...you ok with that? You realize that it will drain resources from new products with new features, but that's ok. . .you want Adobe to support old products even though they no longer sell them.
I suppose in a perfect world, that would be ok. But as a user of the current Photoshop CS3 and Camera Raw 4, I would want the engineers to be concentrating their time and energy working on what they ARE selling right now. Adding new cameras to Camera Raw 4. Adding new functionality to Camera Raw 4.
People have a pretty skewed view of software, IMHO. They drop down bucks for HARDWARE and expect the software to be upgraded forever, for free. There's just as much value in intangible personal property (software) as there is in tangible personal property (hardware). And...it ain't like these shiny new cameras don't come with the camera maker's software...and Adobe STILL provides support for new cameras in old versions via DNG...which, BTW is free...
Big ol' bad Adobe, out there trying to screw their customers...I don't think so. They bend over backwards to do the right things, but of course, to some people, even that's not enough.

  • Please help me , my camera raw doesn't open on photoshop or bridge

so what should i do ? please any one help me here
    thanks

You’ll need a connection to the internet, and probably have a registered version to do updates.  Sometimes it takes a few minutes for PSE to talk to the Adobe servers and see that you’re needing updates.  If you are connected to the internet, then perhaps your computer has a firewall or internet security that needs temporarily disabled.  So try some things like that.
You can also try downloading and running the updaters for ACR 8. CS6 from this Adobe blog page:

CS5 does not support ACR 8.5, it only goes as far as 6.7.

  • Is Camera RAW 8.6 embedded in Photoshop Elements 13?

Is Camera RAW 8.6 embedded in Photoshop Elements 13?  This version of Camera RAW is necessary to open RAW (NEF) files from the Nikon D750 DSLR.

You might need to update it by going to:
    Help >> Updates
Have you tried installing the trial version to see if it works on your system?  It is a good idea to try it first and then when you like it, you can buy the boxed version from Amazon and use the serial number from the box to activate your trial version that you have installed.  There is no need to install again if the trial version is already on your system
    The latest version is 8.7
    Good luck.

  • Camera Raw 4.3 Elements 5.0 & CS2?

I hope I can ask this clearly. It is my understanding that Lightroom "uses" ACR for its raw conversion. On my laptop I have Elements 5.0 and Lightroom 1.3 installed. On my Desktop I have the same plus PSCS2. So.. On the laptop I have installed ACR 4.3. and I am assuming that Lightroom is using 4.3 for raw adjustments.
On the Desktop, knowing that ACR 3.7 is as far as I can go with CS2, Is there any way to install ACR 4.3 into Elements 5.0 and know that Lightroom
    is using 4.3?
    Thanks!

    > Is there any way to install ACR 4.3 into Elements 5.0 and know that Lightroom
    is using 4.3?
Lightroom is already using the 4.3 engine. For Lightroom it's not a "plug-in". And yes, you can install 4.3 (it shows a limited functionality in Elements) in Elements 5.0. But, if you need to round trip between Lightroom and a pixel editor, you really might want to look into upgrading to Photoshop CS3.
See the download page for instructions on how to install Camera Raw 4.3 in Elements 5.0.

  • Opening Camera Raw Files from Nikon D700 to CS2

Hi there!  I recently upgraded from the Nikon D200 to the D700.  I haven't managed to upgrade to CS5 though!  Can anyone help me, I'm trying to open my Camera Raw files in CS2, but I can't.  What version of the upgrade do I need for the Camera Raw and where do I find it!
    Many thanks!
    Carla

The last version that is compatible with Photoshop CS2 is Camera Raw 3.7.  It is available from the download site.  If you are not going to upgrade your Photoshop then it will be necessary for you to download the latest version of the DNG converter and use it to create Digital negative copies of your raw files.  Then you will be able to open those DNG files in ACR 3.7.

  • Cannot Update Camera Raw to 8.3 in Photoshop CC Education Package

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has experienced the same issues as me. I need to install the latest update for Camera Raw 8.3 and am having no luck. When logged into the creative cloud application, it shows me that Photoshop is up to date (screenshot 01). After checking About Plug-in . Camera Raw, I can see that I am running version 8.2.0.94 so I tried updating directly from the help menu in Photoshop CC (screenshot 02) and the option is not available. Last, but not least I was able to find the standalone download for both camera raw 8.3 and the beta version of 8.4 but both will not install, giving me an error that the administrator has suppressed updates (screenshot 03) which is not true as I am the admin.
Can someone please help me with this asap? I need to install this as soon as possible as we have upwards of 30 students using the Nikon D610 and unfortunately we cannot open any of the .NEF into Photoshop. If there is any other relevant information you think I did not provide, please let me know and will try to get this info updated.
Thank you and hopefully there is a solution out there.

I guess that I should add that I am also an individual CC member at home and do not have the same issues there. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I feel like this is isolated more to team, educational, or enterprise users.

See if the suggestions, here, help, although this was back with CS6-cloud, not CC, so may not apply 100%:

I'd suggest that rather than deleting the file, you move it out of the folder to somewhere else, in case things get worse and you need to put it back.
I found this by Googling the error message.
If you can't figure it out, you might post in the "Downloading, Installing and Set Up" or "Adobe Creative Cloud" forums  since it seems to be related to the Cloud updates, and not necessarily ACR plug-in functionality, and I've seen India support people actually tackle problems posted there, which rarely happens in the ACR forum, although an ACR engineer may sometimes pop in to answer questions, they'd be less likely to know how to fix deployment issues.

  • Can't view Camera RAW files in Bridge or Photoshop CS4 after upgrading to Mac Mavericks X OS.

After upgrading my Mac operating system to Mavericks X I can no longer view Camera RAW images on either Bridge or Photoshop CS4!
I'd already fixed the issue of not even being able to launch Photoshop by installing Apple's Java applet, but this doesn't seem to have helped with the Camera RAW situation.
I've tried invoking "Update" in both Bridge and Photoshop, and both indicate there are no updates.
I even went to Adobe's Camera RAW area, and downloaded and installed the Camera RAW plugin specifically for my cameras (Canon 5D Mk ii) and Photoshop CS4, and that hasn't helped at all!
I feel that it's just another silly Java applet, but I haven't any idea how to proceed from here!
    HELP!
    Thank you,
    Bob

Did you download and install the camera raw 5.7 update?
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 5.7 update
There are also other updates you should install, such as 11.0.2 for photoshop and the bridge output module update, if you need them.

  • Camera raw is NOT there in photoshop CS 6 update from CS 5

I have just upgraded from photoshop CS5 to photoshop CS 6 and there is no camera raw plugin in CS 6.  its not there at all.   I can't update it because it isn't there..."could not complete the Camera Raw command because Adobe Camera Raw plugin cannot be found." I have installed the Photoshop CS 6 update 3 times to no avail. Camera raw will not update because there is no plugin to update. I am running Mountain Lion. 10.8.2

Please try below troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
If you are using Mac operating system try following steps:
Give read and write permissions to Application support folders from both the library's
    Then re-install Photoshop CS 6.
Issue reason, lack of permissions to concern folders from your Library hence Photoshop is not able to access the camera raw or not able to install camera raw successfully.
above provided steps are the only resolution for this issue.
    Regard's
    Vijay.

Thanks, that is interesting and something I had not previously noted.  If I import RAW files to CR direct from a folder, it is still a NEF.  But Aperture changes all NEF's to TIFFs.  OTOH, at least I once again have my CR opening in PS.
