Do follow the instructions. I followed my previous habit of setting the old Camera Raw plugin aside, prior to installing the new, in case I wanted to revert. Apparently the installer refers to the existing plugin to decide what language settings to use - I ended up with all ACR buttons and menus displaying in an Asian character set.
Then after manually restoring the 5.3 version to its rightful place, I had to jump through some hoops before PS or Bridge could see it. Deleting prefs did nothing, nor did rebooting. I finally got it back to sanity by running cameraprofiles.mpkg from the 5.3 download. However, now I couldn't rerun the 5.4 installer, as it insisted 5.4 was already installed. I was finally able to get the 5.4 installer to work, only by rerunning the PS CS4 installer to reinstall CS4 (no need to uninstall.)

Problem with camera raw for Sony 350K and PSE 6

I have recently tried to download my first batch of RAW pictures taken with a Sony A350K camera into PSE6 but I am told the format is not recognised. I thought I had successfully down loaded ACR 4.6 but apparently not as they are still not recognised. Can anyone throw any light on what I might be doing wrong?

If you have left the old version of Camera Raw.8bi in the folder, even if you have renamed it, Photoshop will still use it.

Appreciate your help Ian and others. I have since uninstalled FCS and reinstalled FCXP only to get the same thing. Loading FCXP stalls at "Looking for Compressor Support". When I first downloaded FCXP from the App store I didn't notice that FCS was being placed in it's own folder. It's not something I did manually. Although moved into it's own folder with FCXP on the same drive. I was not able to open FCS apps. They would load and then "quit unexpectantly". They opened just fine before I downloaded FCXP. Do I need to purchase Compressor so that FCXP recognizes it? It seems this is where it stalls. It doesn't explain however why my computer "FREEZES" while doing this. I am in the process of re-installing Lion to see if this helps, otherwise I am at a complete loss.

Which version of mac os x do you have?
Which version of photoshop are you using?
Do you get any message when you try to open the files into photoshop?
Did you use Nikon Transfer to get the files from your camera to computer?
Did you try the File>Get Photos From Camera in Adobe Bridge?

Camera raw 6-7 beta and + win7 64

cameraraw6-7_r1_win_030612 won't install on my Win7x64 machine
I extracted the zip to a folder on my desktop, selected & doulble cliked AdobePatchInstaller, selected "RUN" and I get "error loading updater workflow"
Did I get the wrong thing? Is there a 64 bit only version?

PS CS3, Camera Raw 4.6 Update and Nikon D810 NEF File Reading Issue

Currently Have Photoshop CS3 & Adobe Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9.
According to Adobe, Camera Raw 4.6 supports Nikon D810 NEF files. I have downloaded Camera Raw 4.6 Update. When
I try to open Nikon D810 NEF files, I get Photoshop CS3 error that says
"cannot complete request your because it is not the right kind of
document. These NEF files wont open in Adobe Bridge at all. What am I doing wrong?

Before I purchased, let me get your thoughts on another option that just occurred to me which involves:
1)Editing my D810 NEF files in LR 5.6, which I have, then exporting/saving the edited files as JPEGs.
2) Doing any additional editing, as necessary (i.e. that might require layering or selections..etc) , with the JPEGs with Bridge or PS CS3.
This method wont involve any additional software purchase now.. right? Am I missing anything. here? Since my final output to my customers are JPEGs any way, wont this work? Will I be at any disadvantage. Am I missing anything. here?

Adobe has not been a big help with this. If anyone knows what might be causing this error - great, pls post. Otherwise, in order to work the problem myself, I need to know the file locations of Camera Raw within PS CC and also the file location of where Adobe CC places the d/l'd compressed version. Thanks ssprengel for the suggestions and running a side by side yourself. I went through all my settings and applied your suggestions and did a side by side each time. I even uninstalled the entire creative suite on my system then reinstalled and updated and I still get the same outcome. It was fine yesterday with the previous version of ACR. It seems like the updated version is not showing the image preview in any color space. When I switch the color space in the workflow options the histogram changes but it doesn't seem to affect the preview window. And yes the preview button was checked on it was just when I was using the screen grab tool in windows it took focus away from the application so that is why the settings appear grayed out. I have attached more screen grabs below illustrating all my settings. Also here is some system info if anyone out there has a similar setup and would be willing to test.

Update for Camera Raw 6.6 fails with PSE 10 on Mac OSX

I have been trying to update my just purchased from App Store Photoshop Elements 10 to the latest Camera Raw 6.6
#1 I cannot see an update option in the Help Menu
#2 Try to do a Manual Update after mounting the dmg and runnning AdobePatchInstaller.app says Update is Not Applicable

Okay. The file paths for the app store version are totally different from that of other versions because apple requires that everything live inside the app package itself for all store apps.
1. Go here and download ACR 6.6:

Once it's downloaded, double click the dmg file to mount it. Double click Payloads. You are going to want two things from the payloads folder: the plugin and the profiles.
2. Open AdobeCameraRawProfile6.0All-(followed by a long string of numbers--not sure if they vary by localization). This will be the top folder if you're in list view. Open the .dmg file in there:
and drag the Profiles folder to the desktop to copy it.
3. Now go back to the contents of the Payloads folder and do the same thing for the CameraRawforElements6.4All-followed by a long string of numbers). Again, double click the .dmg file in there, then, in the mounted .dmg go to Assets>Universal>and drag cameraraw.plugin to the desktop. You can now eject all the dmg files you've opened.
So now you have the plug-in file and the profiles folder. Those are the two items you will need.
4. Now right-click the actual PSE editor in your Applications folder and choose Show Package Contents>Contents>Plug-ins>File Formats, and replace the camera raw.plugin there with the new version (take the old one out and put it somewhere safe in case this doesn't work). In Resources, replace the camera profiles folder and the Lens profiles folder with the ones from the Profiles folder you removed from the .dmg file.
Hopefully that should work, but I'm not sure if something else may need to be replaced. I don't have a copy of the app store version of PSE 10 to try this, so let me know if that's all that's necessary.

Loading Camera Raw 5.5: CS4 and PE6

I have both Photoshop Elements 6 for the Mac and CS4 Extended, which I recently installed. I want to install the latest Camera Raw Plug-in for use in both programs, but it seems to only recognize the new plug-in in CS4 but not PE6.
I downloaded the updater for 5.5, and the process ran (I thought) successfully. Unfortunately, I can only open a Nikon D5000 raw file with CS4, but not PE6.
I thought adding an additional plug-ins folder (the CS4 Plug Ins Folder) via the PE6 plug-ins preferences would do it, but it doesn't.
Any ideas out there on how I can get this D5000 file to open in both programs?

Camera Raw showing up double in PSE 8

Hi
After upgrading to PSE 8, the plugin Camera Raw shows up twice in About Plugins (both show Version 5.5.0.97). In the Open as filetype list, I also see two Camera Raw entries, of which one works just fine, the other one leads to error message "This process could not be executed, because a program error occured" (my translation from German to English).
I noticed that by removing the file Camera Raw.8bi from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats removes one of the entries. So PSE 8 seems to get ACR 5.5 from somewhere else than from Camera Raw.8bi also.
This problem does not seem to be related to my installation, please also see this thread in the PSE forum.
The installation guide clearly states that one has to copy Camera Raw.8bi to the PSE plugin directory, although it only mentions PSE 6.0 und PSE 7.0.
Can anybody give me a hint on where PSE 8 gets its ACR from, and what I would have to do to upgrade it to a new version if I don't keep Camera Raw.8bi in the plugin directory?

This issue has been resolved.
As per John R. Ellis' post here, Adobe has moved the location of the file Camera Raw.8bi from
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats\
to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 8\File Formats\
with PSE 8.
So deleting the file C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi resolves the problem.
Adobe, please make a note of this in the ACR installation guide.
