Camera Raw 6.7 won't save developer settings

I'm running Adobe CS 5 with Camera Raw 6.7 on a Windows Vista machine.
I have a Canon T3i that I shoot all of my Raw files from. Which Camera Raw 6.7 supports and have not had trouble in the past.
Recently everytime I've loaded the Raw files into a new project folder and begin to adjust the first Raw file, none of the develper settings are saved or the updated Raw file won't show anything on Bridge (The little triangle on top of the Raw file won't show on Bridge). The XMP file contains the adjustments but bridge and camera raw will not load the adjustments. I am not able to copy or paste settings from other previous Raw files either.
The weird part is that I am able to adjust Raw files and developer settings are properly saved in older folder created previously. This seems to happen everytime I start a new project and load the Raw files into it.
I've tried clearing out the Camera Raw cache, and export cache for that folder but nothing help. I've even tried rebooting. Only after a good amount of time has passed and I've tried to keep on clearing the cache does Camera Raw finally functions properly and saves the developer settings afterwards. It's very random and very annoying. I usually end up wating alot of time trying to get it to work and at times can get very frustrating when the projects needs to be completed.
Has anyone had similar issues with Camera Raw? Any solutions or work arounds? Or what's causing it, and how can I avoid it??
Any help would be greatly appreciated and would help me not loose too much sleep.

So after looking around in the forums I found the solution. Some other members had similar issues.
The issue stems from not having the correct time set on the camera. Here's the link to the forum post with more detail:

  • CS6 - Camera Raw 7.1 won't open Nikon D7100 RAW files anymore

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 installed on it.
I use CS6 and a few days ago, I started having trouble when loading files (JPEG & RAW files via Camera Raw). If I loaded more than two or three files, it would crash Photoshop. I tried loading JPEG directly into Photoshop, and it would still crash after 2 minutes. I tried restarting PS, reset my settings to default, restart my PC, and still the problem persisted. I checked the RAM and scratch disks, etc, there was no change with it. I decided I would reinstalled CS6. I did and now Photoshop works perfectly. I can even load JPEG via Camera Raw and it works without crashing. But then, my RAW files won't load via Camera Raw. I have the latest one from what I saw on Adobe's website  - Version 7.1.0.354. Others listed are DNG converter but I don't need that.
The RAW files I am trying to open are from a Nikon D7100 camera and before, those same files would open with Camera Raw 7.1.
Can someone please help me out on this. I am a bit desesperate cause I urgently need to edit files on Camera Raw because all my settings are saved on this.
When I open a raw file, this is the message I get:

In any event, Kathleen, you should NOT be using that obsolete ACR 7.1 version.  Besides, the Nikon D7100 is not supported by that version, as you have already been correctly told.
Update to ACR 8.6 for CS6 ASAP.
Going through the Help menu in Photoshop CS6 (Help > Updates) will/should update you automatically.  If for some reason, the auto updater fails, here's the link to the ACR 8.6 manual install:
    Windows
    CameraRaw_8_6_Installer.zip
One should never be using anything but the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).
Even if you were using a camera supported by your obsolete version, you are leaving a lot of image quality on the table now.  The rendering of the more recent versions of ACR is demonstrably superior, starting with 7.4.
It is a shame to be using a decent camera—even if it's not a top of the line Nikon—and be in effect trashing some of its image quality.  Really.

  • Camera Raw 6.7 does not save XMP files

I am running Camera Raw 6.7 on a Windows XP machine.
In the Preferences under "General" I have the "Save image settings in" set to "Sidecar ".xmp" files.
And in the DNG File Handling, I do NOT have the "Ignore sidecar ".xmp." file check-box checked in.
But still when I alter a raw file and press Done the DNG file changes date/size and no XMP-file is
created in the directory. Also when Ioad the picture and "reset" it to "Camera Raw Default" and
press Done, the next time I open it is in the "Image settings" state anyway
Anyone have any idea what the problem could be ?

    Klas

  • Lightroom Camera Raw Plug-in won't work with Panasonic RW2

I've just upgraded to Lightroom 5.7 (from 4) essentially to access the RW2 RAW files from my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 (DMC-TZ70) as this camera is supposed to be supported by the camera raw plug-in (link).
Basically I got fed up of messing with the DNG converter and wanted inbuilt support for these files.
However having installed 5, upgraded to 5.7 (& rebooted) it still won’t read these RW2 files - the import tells me that the RW2 format is not supported.
According to the About info I've got Lightroom 5.7 and Camera Raw 8.7, installed. However I have download the camera raw plug-in 8.8 installer (link), copied it to the Lightroom directory and run it, but it's still saying Camera Raw 8.7 in the About screen and I still can’t access these files.
    What am I doing wrong?

The link you posted had all the details to indicate that your camera is not currently supported by any release of Lightroom. It is only currently supported by Camera Raw version 8.8 which is a plug-in that cannot be used by Lightroom (and only by Photoshop). Adobe's free DNG Converter can be used to convert your RW2 files to DNG which is supported by any Lightroom release. Download it here:
    Win: Adobe DNG Converter
    Mac: Adobe DNG Converter

  • I can't figure out how to update camera raw. Elements won't read my ARW. files.

Help? haha Elements won't read my ARW. files. It says to update camera raw but I don't know how.

What camera model do you have?  What version of Elements are you using (Help / About Photoshop Elements) and what version of Camera Raw are you using in Elements, now (Help / About Plug-in / Camera Raw)?
These questions are relevant because each camera model must be supported individually and Adobe only adds support to currently available products.

  • Save develop settings as default import

Jim Hess wrote in a post the other day
'In my case, I chose to adjust one of my images that closely represents my "normal" shooting style. I adjusted everything until that image looked the way I wanted it to look. Then I saved those settings as my default settings.'
I tried to do this save this morning instead of using the develop preset within the import session
I went up into the Develop menu and clicked on 'Set Default Settings'. An ominous message arrives including the ISO used, camera # type....hmmmm.....I think I have been here before.....and  previously I backed out and went with import presets.
Is this "Set Default Settings' menu choice the procedure for imbedding the basic adjustments desired at import? I have the preferences set to include 'make default specific to the Camera Iso setting' so does the preference setting override the 'make this the default' when I'm on a specific image which happens to have an ISO 400?
    Rose

Save the adjustment to an Image Adjustment Preset.  You can then apply the Preset (even on import, if you want).
Note that for RAW files, you can also alter the settings in the RAW Fine Tuning Brick, and save them as a default that is always applied to files from your camera.
Do you have a hardware-calibrated monitor?  If you are making exposure decisions based on sight, it is important that you are correcting to a standard (calibration calibrates your monitor to a standard) and not wasting your time correcting for out-of-standard devices.

  • Watermark source file won't save in settings

I have successfully created several watermark images that have source files (both in PDF format and JPG format). But there is one that I cannot get to save. I have tried the image in both JPG and PDF formats, but for whatever reason, when I try to save the settings, the source file is not saved and it just comes up as blank text when I select it for use. I have tried over and over again to save this watermark.
As a result, whenever I want to apply this particular watermark, I have to go and browse for and find the file time and time again.
?? Any clue as to why this one won't save? Is there a maximum number of watermarks that can be saved?

You can look at the place where the settings are saved.
For Acrobat 8 and MS Vista the place is:
    X:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\8.0\Preferences\Watermark

  • Are snapshots required to save develop settings to XMP?

Here's the scenario: I typically make my changes in post-processing such as contrast, exposure etc, in the develop settings.  When I'm done, I create a snapshot called "done".  I do this because I fear that without creating a snapshot, the develop settings might not be written into the XMP, so that if I ever have to recover those settings, (say if I transfer a photo to my laptop, and the corresponding XMP file), they'd be gone without a snapshot.  Anyone know if this is true?

The way Lightroom works, your develop settings are saved to the database. Every time in the future that you return to a photo and go into Develop Module, your settings are there for you to see (and change). Your develop history and metadata is also there. You do not have to turn on any options in Lightroom for this to happen, it is automatic, and cannot be turned off.
Thus, there is no need to write your develop settings to xmp. You can if you want to, but this does not happen automatically. You can Ctrl-S to save your metadata (including develop settings) to the xmp. You can turn it on so writing the edit settings and other metadata happens automatically (Edit->Catalog Settings->Metadata, check Automatically Write Settings to XMP) When you save to XMP, your final edit settings are saved, but not the history of steps that you followed to arrive at the final edited position. The primary reason you would save to XMP is so that your metadata and edits can be read by other applications; however there are only a few programs that can read and interpret your edits that are stored in XMP (Lightroom, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and Bridge); many other programs can read the metadata (like keywords and captions). If you are not interested in communicating with other programs, there is no need at all to save your metadata and edits to XMP.
Creating a snapshot does not cause anything to be written to XMP, and in fact if you choose to write your data to XMP, you do not need a snapshot to save your develop settings. Everything gets written without a snapshot, if you choose to write to XMP, and everything gets saved to the database without a snapshot being created.
In general, you do not need snapshots for the purpose you are using them for. Snapshots are an optional way of saving conditions along the way to your final edit.
Please read The Lightroom Starter Kit to learn more about how Lightroom operates, as quite honestly, you seem confused about how Lightroom works.

  • Lightroom 2 save develop settings after folder remove?

I just upgraded to Lightroom 2 and notice that it doesn't save images' develop settings after I remove the folder from the library. So next time I reimport that folder, my develop settings previously applied to those images are gone! Anyway to fix this?

    >Frankly, I don't quite understand what's going on.
    Neither do I. x.x
Here is an example of what's going on.
    I import a photo.
I edit that photo in Dev Module such as recovery, clarity and noise reduction(Luminance).
As I opted for "automatically write changes into XMP", now I've got those changes in the XMP sidecar file as well as in the Lightroom 2 Catalog.lrcat.
At the same time, I have now 4 lines of History including 'Import'(Highlight Recovery, Clarity, Luminance Smoothing)
Quite normal and no problem until here.
When I open that photo several days later, I suddenly have that little up-arrow icon(meaning "metadata was changed externally").
And the photo is like the one I imported without three changes I made above.
Naturally, in History, there is only one line, 'Import'.
    Now I have two option,
    1. "import Settings from Disk"
    2. "Overwrite Settings"
If I chose 1, I have my edited photo back with 3 changes above. It's from XMP (or Catalog), I guess. However, 3 lines of changes in History disappear and only 'Import from metadata' and 'import(date and time) remain. So I can't really use history to see what exactly I've done with that photo. (Well I still can see each change with the right side panel but it's not as quick and convenient as History.
If I chose 2, of course, I lose both my edited photo and 3 lines of History. It's just as if I imported from my Compact Flash.

  • HT1677 What happens when you press "save" and the device won't save your settings?

Today, I upgraded my ipod touch 4 gen to IOS 6.
I just tried to save my settings under Safari, and I get an error message, "https://www.google.com Sorry, we failed to save your settings. Try again later."
I tried most of the evening, and still the same error message...
I've tried to "Google" the error message, there is NO match, lots of other stuff, but no match to my error message.
    Topbarhive

Mor info on this issue, I can't disable the "Search History" (ie: check "Do not save searches") IF I try I get the error message...
I seem to be able to disable the rest of the stuff, without the Search History checked "do not save searches" and save without the error.
If I try to check only "do not save searches" it will give me the error.
There must be something in IOS6 that I checked in someother place on my device that is causing my issue.
BTW there is no option to "remove all website data" on my device, it just show a "grayed out" "0 bytes" beside the "term" Website Data.
    Thanks for helping me.

  • Mail won't save MobileMe Settings

After .mac changed to MobileMe, I changed the settings in OS X Mail so that it worked with servers using the "me.com" domain name rather than "mac.com." However, whenever I change settings, the changes to not seem to stay. Despite telling Mail to save the settings prior to closing the settings window, if I go back into settings, the "me.com" settings have been changed to "mac.com."
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a fix?

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • RAW 4.1 won't save to JPG with embedded thumbnail

Title says it all. So many other applications can't see a thumbnail, and have to (slowly) open the full JPG for previewing the photo.
If I open the JPG in Photoshop and resave it, an embedded thumbnail *is* added. There seems to be no option in Adobe RAW to have it add the thumbnail. So my workflow is messed up, as every JPG created by Adobe RAW has to be opened and saved in Photoshop to aquire an embedded thumbnail :-(
Anyone kow how to fix this? I've created an action in Photoshop to open all the files and resave them and it works in batch mode, but is rather a naff approach...
    W

Update ten minutes later: I'm finding that the "Save Image" from ACR,
in both Bridge AND Photoshop, does create an icon and preview that other software (iView) can see. So as long as I run my changes and then "Save Image" into the next folder in my workflow, I get the image I want.
However, as might be expected, this permanently saves the changes so the nondestructive part of the flow is disabled. All the settings are reset to zero. This is ok by me, usually, since it is basically what happened when dealing with JPGs in CS2, but with the much more flexible interface of processing the JPGs in ACR, and taking advantage of its batch develop commands.
I tried saving into DNGs from ACR but the file was 9 times bigger than the original max quality JPG. So screw that.
