Camera Raw 7 CS6 adjustments slow to operate.

I have updated to Photoshop CS6 and I'm having a problem with camera raw adjustments.
When loading a batch of images into camera raw all is fine then after a few images have been adjusted everything slows down. Adjustment controls take 1-3 seconds to activate when clicked on.
Using MacPro 2.66 Nehalem 8 core, 32GB RAM, OS 10.6.8, ATI Radeon HD 4870
Any suggestions welcomed.
Have tried:
disabling all plug-ins
Launching Camera Raw from Photoshop and Bridge
Closing all other programs
Adjusting Camera Raw Cache(currently 10gb)

I just want to stress here that this CANNOT be a simple performance issue.  There's definitely something up when two similar 8 core machines with similar video cards yield performance that differs from 3 seconds to an imperceptible fraction of a second, EVEN IF they're running different OSs.
To summarize:
tahoelight:  Dual quad core Xeon (Nehalem) 2.66 GHz , 32 GB, Radeon HD 4870:  1-3 second control response
Noel Carboni:  Dual quad core Xeon (Harpertown) 3.16 GHz, 16 GB, Radeon HD 5670:  (estimated) 0.1 second control response
Relative performance (higher is better, courtesy Passmark Benchmark):
Dual Xeon X5550 2.66 GHz:    10,727
Dual Xeon X5460 3.16 GHz:      9,583
Radeon 4870:  1,737
Radeon 5670:  1,234
Clearly the more powerful machine should not be 1/10 to 1/30 as fast to interact with the user!
Adobe has said the GPU doesn't play into Camera Raw performance, so what's up here?
Adobe seems to be a bit silent across the various forums lately.  I hope they haven't been instructed to avoid participating...  That would be a shame, as it's one thing Adobe has been doing right.
FYI, station_two will be happy to know I've disabled Windows' equivalent of spotblight (indexing).  Some concepts are universally good.

  • Pls help. My Camera Raw, CS6 and Lightroom won't read the NEF files from D610.

I recently upgraded to Nikon D610 and the NEF files were not readable from my old version of Camera Raw, CS6 and Lightroom. So downloaded the recommended upgrades and I now have Camera Raw 8.4.0.199; Lightroom 5.3; CS6 13.01. But still did not read my D610 NEF's. Please help. Thanks.

oh wait, i got it. Just in case for those who will have the same scenario. I downloaded the NEF files from my D610 using the old ViewNX 2.1 software and that was the cause of incompatibility. So i upgraded my ViewNX to 2.9 and downloaded my images again. And it worked this time.

  • Camera Raw CS6 not working properly

I have upagraded from Ps Cs5 to CS6.
I open a file in CR, and modify the exposition. After that, I modify the clarity: immediatly, the exposition goes back as it was before the modification ...
After the work on CR, I finish the file and go back to bridge: the image is not modified ! But if I dobble click on the same image in bridge, the file is opening in CR with the modifications: so this modifications are note visble on bridge ...
Some body can help me ?
I work with the last version of Br and Ps CS6.

  • Camera Raw 8 very slow(unuseable) in Photoshop CS6

Camera Raw 7 had it's major problems with Photoshop CS6 but had a few improvements to speed with the last update on my system. The update to Raw 8 has slowed everything down again to a painful 3-4 second wait before controls, crop tool etc. responds. Anyone else getting this? it seems deja-vu with Adobe. Completely unusuable for any day to day work. Back to CS5 again....?
    Running Macpro 8 core 2.66 32gb RAM

First a reminder, these are user to user forums, not a channel to address Adobe directly.
I don't see any slowdown in ACR 8.1 hosted by Photoshop 13.0.5 under Lion 10.7.5 on my MacPro 1,1 Quad.
Try setting the Noise Reduction to zero and tell us if you see any difference.
What exact version of the OS are you running?

  • Camera Raw 7 extremely slow

CR7 is super slow when uploading raw files. For Canon 550D files (20MP), it takes about 10-12 seconds to open one single file.
Adjustements sliders are also too slow. it takes around 6-8 seconds to react (white balance too). So, it's unusable : adjustement sometimes appear after I have already done the next one..
Jpeg are not a problem.Photoshop is not a problem neither.
My computer is not to blame : Dell, i7, 12 GB ram, HD Radeon 4870, etc.
I hope Adobe is aware of the problem and we'll react promptly.

What i7 model?  How many cores and what clock speed?
I ask because it's easy for questions like this to be confused with performance issues, where they may not be.
Also, for clarity, are you talking about the time it takes to do the actual conversion (i.e., to the point the image is open in Photoshop) or to initially display information in the Camera Raw dialog?
I just tested:  A circa 2007 dual Xeon X5460 3.16 GHz processors (8 cores total) with a Canon EOS-T2i raw image:
With Photoshop CS6 already running, 1.4 seconds to display image in Camera Raw dialog after dragging and dropping on Photoshop.
1.6 seconds to open at 16 bits/channel in Photoshop after hitting [Open Image].

  • Why do I get corrupted JPEGs when saving images in Camera Raw, CS6, Mac 0S Mavericks

I occasionally get corrupted JPEG files when processing RAW files in Camera Raw. The images will have lines of pixels that ar out of line, and or whole sections will be truncated and show white or black. I'm using PS CS6, Camera Raw 8.6 on a Mac with OSx Mavericks. Not sure, but it might have something to do with the Bridge Cache, which also acts up when it's getting full. Anyone else have this problem, or any advice.
    Thanks!

right click on the jpeg (the other mouse button then you use to click with) or on trackpad, hold down control and click, in the menu that pops up, click on "get info" next, if the box labeled "locked" is checked, uncheck it. Down at the bottom, there should be a box with your user name, "staff" and "everyone". to the right of this are options to change these you may need to click the small padlock icon and enter in your password. then change all of the permissions to read and write.

  • Filmstrip in Camera Raw (CS6)

How can I make the filmstrip appear in the Camera Raw interface of Photoshop CS6?

Hello, You select several images in Bridge, and open them in Camera raw with the diaphragm icon, or from the menu.

  • Camera Raw CS6: WHere is it?

I have just noticed that I do not have Camera Raw in CS6 either that or it has changed locations from where it used to be in CS5.5

What specifically? ACR is part of every PS install, but naturally the conditions under which it will be invoked depend on the file types you work with and how your preferences are set...

  • Camera Raw CS6 produces damaged files when doing greyscale conversion

When attempting to save to JPEG from CS6 Camera Raw for Nikon NEF files (with the greyscale conversion checkbox checked), the resulting images are damaged: red hue output with scattered noise. See:
    https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/duJSMbdMd5VZLSQQy46hXb4WSo7wDW7hk8bkMgDW8HE?feat=dir ectlink
This has been observed on D90 and D600 NEF files, CS6 trial installation.  Exporting the image to Photoshop main works, but is laborious for bulk conversions.
    Is this a known bug?

Yes, known issue...will be fixed. In the meantime the workaround is to process the images as sRGB (gamma 2.2) or ProPhoto RGB (gamma 1.8) and convert to grayscale in Photoshop.

  • Adjustment brush not working in camera raw cs6

The adjustment brush in Camera Raw PS6 is not working properly.  The slider makes a slight change but I can do no local adjustments.  All other parts of Camera Raw seems to be working.  I have restored the computer.  Is there a toggle I do not know about?

A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CC", but something like CC2014.v.2.2) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,

  • I am having trouble opening raw files in camera raw cs6

In the file menu, open in camera raw is not highlighted.  If I double click on the photo, it opens in the raw converter.

Using the "original" setting is the correct way to do it.  Select on of the photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  That will take you to the file inside the library via the Finder.  Confirm that what you see if the raw file.
If it is then try the following:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Camera Raw adjustments not applying to batch process

    Hey friends,
On a 2008 iMac running 10.5.7, latest version of Camera Raw & Bridge/Photoshop, I opened 650 Canon 5D raw files in Camera Raw, made adjustments to most of those files, then clicked Done.
In Bridge Im batch processing all the files to Jpeg, now in Bridges thumbnails I can see all the adjustments I did in Camera Raw were applied, but yet when I batch process them, no adjustments are being applied, any idea what the issue could be?

Re: Warning serious issue with ACR edits not updating
How did you record the Photoshop batch action? Make sure the "Image Setting" item is checked in the setting flyout menu when recording any actions that open raw image if you want each image's setting to be used.
The preview building process in Bridge has nothing to do whatsoever with the saving of image settings.
Also, if you are using any PhotoKit product, you need to update to the most recent version.

  • Camera Raw 7 Speed - Can We Hope for GPU Acceleration?

Photoshop CS6 in general in my environment seems about as fast as CS5 and better in some ways, but Camera Raw 7 is slower than Camera Raw 6.6.  This is not unexpected, given that the process is more sophisticated, but my question is this:
Now that we see that Photoshop in general, with the MPE, is able to use OpenCL on capable GPUs, will we be seeing Camera Raw make use of OpenCL to achieve faster screen updates, and ultimately faster overall conversions in the near future?  In a 7.x update perhaps?
    The competition does it.

Back off?  I should heed your expert advice on avoiding confrontation, Jeff?    I have to assume by your unwavering support of Adobe on this issue that you are looking forward to having stylish artifacts like these in your own images.  I guess this will define your new style for 2012.  LOL
All the slack that's going to be cut on this has already been cut.
Hey, I could have just quietly dropped back to 7.0 and just have my own images be superior to those made by those using 7.1, but no - I chose to try to help Adobe by pointing out a problem to them here.
When I reported this problem during the beta, I was clearly ignored.  When I reported it again after the release, I was argued-with.
I don't need to be argued-with nor reasoned-with - Adobe needs to listen to people who know what they're talking about.  People not blindly praising the emperor's new clothes.
I don't need nor expect appreciation, but I had thought I might have earned enough respect around here that Adobe's first response wouldn't be "choose different settings, stupid".
An output image quality problem should be a release show-stopper. Experts like me and Vit telling Adobe that their latest color fringing reduction changes aren't working well enough should be considered seriously. Instead, it's just business as usual: Release whatever's in the pipeline.
Adobe's dropping quality standards are something I find myself wanting less and less to be associated with each passing day.
Just typing this message took me longer than it should have, because of this bogus forum software.
