Camera raw 8.1 problem?

Hi, it seems i have a problem with photoshop cc when opening my canon 5d mkIII in camera raw 8.1 (using all lenses i have). Same problem in lightroom 5.
The files are good in DPP.
Can you tell me how to fix it?

We would need to know a lot more details before anyone can help.
Details about your system, about exactlt what kind of files you started out with and every step you have taken to process them, what lens profiles you are using, etc.
It would be very helpful to know your level of experience with Camera Raw, whether you have really learned how to use it, or if you're just using the auto conversion and the default settings.
Your images look corrupted, obviously, and the first thing that comes to mind is that the ACR Lens Correction Defringe Purple Amount  or some such setting is set way too high, or you have the wrong or corrupted lens profiles; but that's just complete speculation and a wild guess. Without details we have nothing to go on.
Please read this FAQ for advice on how to ask your questions correctly for quicker and better answers:

  • Camera Raw 5.5 problem?

I upgraded to Lightroom 2.5 yesterday (9/20/09), which includes an upgrade to Adobe Camera Raw 5.5.  I started to see a purple artifact appear in highlights after making edits.  (I haven't yet investigated enough to identify which editing tool triggers the artifact, or perhaps all of them.)  Even when I revert History to the original Import step the purple artifact remains visible on screen.
I'm working with ORF files from the Olympus E-510.  ORF is Olympus' RAW format.
When I use the 'Edit in' command in LR to open the same file in Photoshop CS4 11.0.1, with or without LR edits, the highlights artifact remains.  LR instructed me to upgrade ACR to 5.5 in Photoshop, for compatibility with LR 2.5, which I did before opening the first file.  When I later opened the same ORF file straight from PS, it contained the highlights artifact.
When I saved a JPG from LR, the artifact remained in the JPG file.  Opening the JPG in Apple's Preview shows that the artifact is at the pixel level - it is there without using an Adobe product to view the image.  Therefore the bug is not restricted to viewing images, but also to processing and saving images.
To test whether the ORF (RAW) file had been altered by LR, I opened it in LightZone 3.8.  The highlights artifact is NOT present in the image processed by LightZone.  Therefore the Adobe products did not alter the ORF (RAW) file.  Because the artifact is present in two Adobe products that depend on ACR 5.5, the bug is probably in ACR 5.5.  Perhaps in the calibration for the E-510?
I suspect the bug in ACR 5.5 is caused by improper normalization of the R, G and B channels at the bright end of the histogram, so that color balance is not retained when one channel is blown.
Crops of the LR/ACR 5.5 JPG image and the LightZone JPG can be seen at:

  • Camera RAW / Bridge CC problem with Exposure in Mac OS X 10.9 Maverics

Recently I purchased MacBook Pro with OS X 10.9 Maverics and I have a problem as described below while working in Bridge CC:
If I open Canon RAW files (.CR2) in Photoshop by double-clicking the file (or File > Open With > Adobe Photoshop CC), Photoshop starts and a Camera RAW windows opens. If I set the Exposure value from -0.95 to 0.95 and choose Open Image or Done, a .XMP file is created, but the value of Exposure is NOT SAVED (Exposure value is still 0).  If I set the Exposure to -1.00 (or less) or +1.00 (or more), it is SAVED.
On the other way if I open any RAW file just in Camera RAW (File > Open In Camera Raw) everything works fine: any changes of Exposure are saved in .XMP files.
Please note that I have all updates of Adobe and Apple software are installed.
    Anyone can help?

Can't check with Mavericks because I'm still on 10.8.5, however I can't say I heard this behavior before.
Can you select a file that is changed with -0.95 but does not show the result and with right mouse click menu choose purge cache for selection, does that make a difference?
What version of Camera Raw are you using and What Canon are you using.

  • Camera Raw file download problem

Downloaded Camera RAW Images recognised in PS5 Bridge prior to download (thumbnails visible) but after download, no thumbnails visible, only icons, which when double clicked, the following error message appears "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file".
Other previously downloaded files can be opened, and a test picture I just took, downloaded and opened up fine. Looking at the files that won't open, I noticed that the metadata is missing, so I am wondering if during the download process, the files somehow became corrupted. Can any one help with this problem please? Thanks.

The files were the correct size after downloaded them and I used the PS5 Bridge program to dowload directly from my camera.  I have spoken to Nikon and Adobe about this problem and both seem to agree that the files became corrupted during the download process.  Nikon suggested using third party software to recover the files from the SIM card, which I have now done, but out of 120 files, there were still 6 or 8 files that I couldn't do anything with.  the strange thing is that I could view all the files with the Nikon NX2 software, but as soon as I tried to do anything with them, like converting them to a jpg, I got a meaasage saying that the file was not recognised!   So panic over for this particular issue, but I am still curious to know if this is a common problem.  I suppose if nothing else, I have learned a valuable lesson, which is not to delete pictures from the camaera until after they have been successfully transfered to the computer.  Thanks for your interest in my tail of woe!

  • Camera Raw 8.4 problems

I'm unable to append metadata to files in Bridge CS6 since updating to Camera Raw 8.4. Existing metadata is also being stripped from previously worked on .CR2 files. Also preview images from .RAF files no longer load when they used to before. Is there any way to fix this? Can I downgrade back to 8.3? I'm using CS6 on OS 10.7.5.

    hi Oztekson
The fix is to download a 8.4 again via the link below and follow the instructions to replace the existing 8.4 plugin:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/acr-84-bridge-cs6-metadata.html

I'm usually the one that is a bit sour on Adobe, but in this situation they contacted people that reported the problem and worked out a solution relatively quickly. So, cheers to Adobe, please continue this type of responsiveness. Software breaks, that's life, but how the developer addresses the problem is how the consumer views the value of that company ( and why we might continue purchasing product ).
I'd much rather purchase from small developers, they get it. Let's hope that Adobe is on a path to get back the old mojo. Think small.
Thanks to Ashutosh.Nigam for being responsive to this problem.

  • Camera raw issues - RAM problem?

    Hi
Im using Photoshop 6 with when using ACR i find that the ability too zoom in and out in camera raw disappears if i apply any noise reduction (ie: luminance amount above 0). When this happens i also get "stuttering" when moving the image around in the window, with the bottom or top section of the image remainingand being replicated above or below while the middle of the moves.
Often i process a RAw image and it opens as a TIFF in photoshop and all seems fine, then if go back to ACR and try and process another RAW i find that the ACR page opens minus the image. In other words the ACR page is visible but the window where the image should be shows PS underneath. The only way to clear this is to close PS and reopen the program and the RAW file. I often get an error message when i try converting a RAW file to a developed tiff that says "not enough RAM".
My PC has 4GB of RAM and in the photoshop preferences (performance) the "ideal range" on my PC is around 900 - 1150MB. Is my PC too dated to run PS & ACR and do you think the issues ive explained are all to do with the limited RAM?
    Mark

I am seeing this problem too. I have a similar specd PC to mjones1978 above : core i7 860, ATI Radeon HD4350, 32bit win 7 pro, 4GB RAM (2.96GB usable). I am opening RAW files from Mini Bridge to Camera Raw and I can get 2 sequential images loaded processed and then imported to PS6 as 16 bit saved and closed with no problem. I come to the 3rd RAW file, and as soon as it opens in Camera Raw, there is no working preview. When this happens, even if I just hit 'Open' to open it in PS6, it wont open. I can change the sliders in Camera Raw or clsoe file but nothing else.
The only way I can get around this is to completely close PS6/CR/BR down and re-open again.
I suspect that it may be something to do with memory and I have done a system monitor to see what's going on -
    Available
    RAM
    Memory
    1.8GB     - I have a few programes open before PS6
    1.65GB   - PS+mini BR open
    1.28GB   - PS+MBr+CR open
1.07GB   - PS+MBr+16BIT image file open in PS
1.07GB   - 16 BIT image file closed but PS and MB open
    0.74GB   - PS+MBr+CR file open
    0.98GB   - File Closed
0.77GB   - PS+MBr+CR file open { CR preview disappears and file is not openable in PS from CR)
Now it would appear that PS6 is hanging onto 1.65GB-0.98GB = 0.67GB of RAM memory that it never coughs up again. which on a 4GB 32 bit system is a sizable chunk.
I have tried playing around with giving PS6 more memory in preferences, purging PS6 cache (there is never anything highlighted to purge other than video cache after a file is closed), and also tried giving CR 10GB of cache disk space.
    None of these options work.
For now it just leaves me closing PS6 all the time and then reopening every 2 images which is a bit frustrating.
This happens more suddenly with big (42MB) RAW files, but smaller ones (20MB) create the same problem too, but I maybe get a few more files processed before it does..
Very frustrating. I don't think PS6+CR is optimised for 32 bit windows system, but I don't see why it wont work given I still see 0.74GB of free RAM at the very least. Maybe its Camera Raw that has the issue rather than PS6?

  • PSE & and Camera Raw 5.5 problem

I shoot a Canon 5D Mark ii in Canon Raw.  I have Windows Vista operating system, I have PhotoShop Elements 7.0 (all updates installed).
I can't get PSE 7 to open my Raw files.  I downloaded and installed the plug http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407344.html for Windows.
Am I trying to what can't be done?  Is PSE incapable of reading canon raw files?
    Thanks
    Mike

    FaithfulPastor wrote:
I pasted the unzipped file in computer>Adobe>Photoshop Elements 7.0>Photoshop elements
I unzipped the files and ran them according to the instructions.  The plug opened up PSE during the installation. (if that matters?)
That isn't clear. The following instructions on the download page have to be followed precisely or the plug-in won't work.
Extract the Camera Raw.8bi file from the ZIP file you downloaded. (Extract only the Camera Raw.8bi file that is at the top level of the ZIP file. Do not extract the Camera Raw.8bi file from the Win64 folder that is inside the ZIP file. This folder contains the 64-bit edition of the Camera Raw plug-in, which is compatible only with the 64-bit edition of Photoshop CS4.)
    Do one of the following:
If you are using a 32-bit edition of Windows, then move Camera Raw.8bi into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats. If you are prompted to overwrite the existing plug-in file, then click Yes or Overwrite.
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move Camera Raw.8bi into C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats. If you are prompted to overwrite the existing plug-in file, then click Yes or Overwrite

  • Camera raw 4.4 problem

I downloaded ACR 4.4 on my Mac, and Lightroom and Photoshop couldn't read files scanned on my Nikon Coolscan 4000. I read about the recall, and reinstalled both Lightroom 1.3 and Camera Raw 4.3 plugins. My scanned nef files are still unreadable by Adobe software.

First, set NikonScan to save your scans as Tiffs.
NikonScan software has a rather strange quirk:
If you Batch-scan to Tiffs those Tiffs will open in ACR.
However, if you scan only a SINGLE frame, that Tiff will NOT open in ACR.
There is a work-around (or at least it works for me):
In Bridge, Duplicate the errant Tiff (Cmd. D) and trash the original.
The duplicate should now open in ACR.

  • Can I open a PSD file in Camera Raw?

I have searched for information on this subject and everyone says  -- "just open Open As and choose camera raw".  The problem is there is no such thing as Open As (other than Open As Smart object) in my CS5 v. 12.0.2 nor in my CS4 v. 11.02.    What gives??
In a side note I also can not open a tiff or jpeg in Camera Raw even though the preference settings indicate I should be able to do so.
Any ideas why I do not see an Open As in the file menu of either of my PS copies?

Yes, you can.  But not with Layers, obviously.  :~)
However, you have to go through the File menu in Photoshop:
    File > Open
Then, in the Open dialog box, go to the bottom-LEFT button and select Camera Raw.
Do NOT select "Photoshop Raw" !  You want Camera Raw.

  • Bridge crashes with camera raw 4.4.1 installed, OK with 4.0

When I use Bridge with camera raw plugin 4.4.1 installed to navigate to a folder with at least one raw image shot with Sony Alpha 100, it consistently crashes. I can open the same image using Photoshop and Camera raw without a problem, so the image is not corrupted. Bridge works as expected with raw files from Sony Alpha 700.
If I revert to camera raw plugin 4.0 it works like a charm for Sony Alpha 100 pics, but my new Sony Alpha 700 is not supported.

I'm still looking for some help.
Now that I've learned a little bit more, let me try to restate my problem. In using both a Nikon D200 and a new Nikon D300. For software I'm using PS CS3 Extended Edition, as a part of Adobe's CS3 Design Premium suite. My Dell Inspiron 530 is running Vista Home Premium.
As I've said before, my problem is that I cannot open NEF files shot with either the D200 or D300 (and they are uncompressed NEF files). I downloaded the new Camera Raw plug-in, ver. 4.3.1, and unzipped it to \program files\common files\adobe\plug-in\CS3\file format. The Camera Raw.8bi file is dated 11/30/07 and is about 10,446,000 in size. Then I run a search of my hard drive to make sure there are no other Camera Raw files anywhere. Then, in PS Bridge, I purge the cache of the file folder where the NEF files are located. Then I try to open a NEF file and get the following error message in a PS CS3 Extended box:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
Then, immediately afterwards I ran another search of my hard drive, and the Camera Raw.8bi file is GONE, DISAPPEARED, VANISHED.
Is the problem with the CS3 Entended Edition?
Can anyone help me out here, particularly you Nikon shooters?
    Thanks for any advice.

  • Camera RAW and Elements Hang during Thumbnail Generation...

Ever since I upgraded to the newest version of Camera Raw, I have been having issues with Photoshop Elements hanging while automatically generating thumbnails, anyone else notice this issue?
Hang is not quite the right description... So I import a batch of pictures and PSE starts processing the files ("Generating Thumbnails" is in the tool bar at the bottom). After a few images are processed, it just stops. If I try to force an update of the thumbnail ("Update Thumbnail" option under the Edit menu), a broken image just come back. No mater what I do, it just sits there and will not resolve the thumbnail issue until I close out PSE and go into task manager and make sure that the task is killed.
On the other hand, while I can not get the thumbnails generated, I can go into the Editor with a raw image and it opens in Camera Raw without any problems.
Anyone else having similar issues? Know anything to try?
    * Yes I have the most recent version of Camera Raw. When I downgrade to an older version of Camera Raw, the issue seems to go away.
    * I can not use the old version all the time because I have a Nikon D300, which is only supported in the newest version. I confirmed the working of things with some of my D200 files.
    * I am using Photoshop Elements 6.0, mainly for organization of all my images because I take a lot of them.
    * I am doing this on a Windows XP x64 machine
    * Based on a post someplace, I did check that my default printer on my machine is set to a printer that is always on the machine (PDF writer) and not a network printer/printer that has been disconnected.
Thank you for any help/suggestions that anyone can give me...
    -Matt

Have you tried the Elements forum?
Not many visitors here have Elements, mostly PSCS and Bridge.
If you where using Bridge I would suggest to purge cache and or refresh the preferences but I have no clue if this is possible in Elements? :-(
    Edit:
Do you have enough RAM installed, generating thumbnails from RAW can take a lot of energy from the OS...

  • In bridge i select a jpg image with cntrl r to open in camera raw but get "camera raw not avail"

In bridge i select a jpg image with cntrl r to open in camera raw but get "camera raw not available"  camera raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.  I can open nef. in camera raw with no problem.

Hm, what I suggested might actually be a possibility then...
Close whatever version you have open first...
I think Adobe installs shortcuts for both 32 and 64 bit Photoshop in the start menu.
If you can't find the 32 bit Start menu entry, look for the 32 executable here (changing the CS version number to whatever yours is):
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe

  • Camera RAW 4.1 Blur Issue

I updated to the new version of Camera RAW as soon as I learned it was available. I am running Windows Vista Business, and Photoshop Extended. My RAW files are generated by a Canon 20D camera. Right away I noticed that, even with sharpening Amount turned to Zero, I am getting a weird rippling effect in the areas where my images go out of focus. It's almost like the effect you would get with the Glass filter with a small amount of distorion. The areas where the image is in focus, there doesn't seem to be a problem, it's in the transition to blur where I really see the effect. I reverted back to my previous version of Camera RAW and the problem goes away. This effect, whatever it is, is unacceptable, and I certainly hope it is a bug, not a feature. Has anyone else seen this or have a comment?

    > "I am getting a weird rippling effect in the areas where my images go out of focus".
I downloaded the TIFF image http://www.eclecticimagery.com/composite.tif
and superimposed the ACR 4.0 and ACR 4.1 versions as separate layers on top of one-another, pixel-aligned. I then spent some time clicking the visibility of the top layer.
Even at 200% and 400%, all I can see it that ACR 4.1 appears to be very slightly sharper, and has slightly less noise.
I can't detect the "weird rippling effect" that the original poster mentioned. I think there was a very slight amount of small-scale posterisation in the ACR 4.1 image, perhaps resulting from a reduction in the amount of "dither" that was present in ACR 4.1 because of the reduced amount of noise.
I converted the ACR 4.1 layer ready for Smart Filters, and applied Noise at 1 (I would have prefered less) and Gaussian Blur at 0.3, to try to get a match between them (Noise below Gaussian Blur). When I toggle between them, the effect is far less, although not exactly the same.
But this does suggest that one way of making ACR 4.1 look like ACR 4.0 is to add a combination of noise & blur!

  • Fix for Camera Raw 5.7 ignoring .xmp files?

I have a problem, some people seem to have: From a certain date on, every sidecared .xmp gets completely ignored. Camera Raw as well as Bridge seem to ignore them. They get created, whether I open them with Bridge or CR. Someone suggested I could fix this problem by associating the CR2 Format with Bridge or Photoshop (CS4), it worked for a while... if I opened it with the Windows Explorer. Opening a CR2 with Bridge netted in the same result: .xmp gets created, but gets ignored by Bridge and Camera Raw. Now even that fix doesn't seem to work: Neither CR nor Bridge want to acknowledge the files.
Is there a fix for that I'm unaware of?
    €:
It seems I have found the problem: Someone mentioned it might have something to do with the timestamp of the files not being correct. I checked the date and time of my camera and realised I haven't changed the time, as Daylight-saving changed. Now the .xmp files read correctly. Perhaps that is some use for other people.
    €, Update2:
I checked several things: If the modified time of the file lies in the future (here 1hr.), Bridge and Camera Raw have a problem recognizing the .xmp cause it seemed to have been created before the Photo was shot/modified last time. I took the pictures at 01:05pm (the were timed at 02:05pm). CR and Bridge ignored all .xmp-files created before 2:05pm. After 02:05pm, everything worked fine again.

Good to hear that the matter is acknowledged.
I had such cases. I think it was the renaming of old files. Not sure.
Many things can go wrong. Whatever triggers it. It woulld be great to have the option (checkbox) to enforce the (re-)synchronisation of an existing xmp file with a given Raw and/or dng file.
    Best regards, Peter

  • Update to PS CC 2014 all updated ok, opening image in camera raw if I use any sliders/panels it just freezes the raw module. Anyone with similar problem/solution?

Any solutions/fixes. Photoshop itself it's fully functional apart from the raw opening problem. I did have 8.5rc installed, raw does seem to have updated as I now have PS CC (non 2014 version) fully functional. I have already tried a new download and re install  of 2014 to no avail. Also tried a download of the separate raw module, no fix either.
    Win 8.1 system
Thanks in advance of any help, was trying to avoid a complete Adobe file wipe.

Ok, so this is actually a Wacom driver problem( I'm using Intuos 4). If I turn off windows ink in Wacom driver settings then my sliders in camera raw become responsive again, but I lose pressure sensitivity in PS. Just updated Wacom drivers, but no joy. Anybody have a work around/fix?
