Camera Raw 8.2 "Done" button

The "Done" button in Camera Raw 8.3 is not applying edited changes to XMP data. For example, edit an image in Camera Raw, hit "Done." Re-open image later and the image is back in its default, unedited state. Image location has not changed in finder -- accompanying XMP file is right there.
The "Open Image" works as it should, both immediately, and if image is re-opened later.
The "Save Image" button also does NOT save XMP data or edited changes. Is there any troubleshooting or solution to this issue?
Photoshop CC, Mac OS 10.9.1.

Don't know about the Done button problem, clicking it it has always applied the changes in the XMP sidecar file and exited ACR for my system.
However, the Save button causes a file to be exported with all changes embedded in the image data (jpeg or tiff), no XMP data is saved in the exported file and no XMP data is modified on the local system, so your observed action is correct.

i have a canon 70d and just purchased elements 12. It will not open a raw file for me. I have been advised to download the latest version of camera raw, i have done this and it still says my camera is not supported. I really need to open my raw files. Can anybody help me.

You'll need to update to at least ACR 8.2 for the 70D to be recognized.  The normal way to update PSE12 to the latest CR is to use Help / Updates in the Editor which should update to ACR 8.5.
According to Adobe's website PSE12 shipped with ACR 8.1 and you say it says yours is reported as ACR 8.0.
Are you using PSE 11 and not 12?  PSE 11's maximum ACR version is 8.0.

  • Using Bridge to Camera Raw to Open Image button also drop shadow problems

I remember when I was working with RAW in PSE 8. I would be in Bridge looking at a pic and double click on it. PSE 8 would open in Camera RAW and I could play with the pic a bit, make some adjustments, then click on OPEN IMAGE. When I did that it would open in PSE and it would be in jpg format. With this PSE 9 and the updated Camera RAW 6.3, when I punch OPEN IMAGE I still have a picture labeled .CR2 which I think still means RAW. When I double click in Bridge the .CR2 pic shows as 8 bit depth. I can do a little more work on it and use SAVE AS. When I do that, the sample file name that shows is still in .CR2 format and I must change that to .jpg and then below change from PHOTOSHOP to JPEG to save my file as a jpg file. Is there something that I have to change in preferences to get it to open the image in jpg format when I hit the OPEN IMAGE button? Or, is this an "improvement" with RAW 6.3? Also, I seem to be having trouble adding a drop shadow (or any other effects) on jpeg pics. At least it doesn't show up on the screen after I apply it. I just recently updated to Camera RAW 6.3 and updated my Operating system on my iMac computer to OS 10.6.6. I emailed this request to my good friend with an identical setup on his iMac and he is having the same response when performing the above operations. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Okay, previously you seem to have been using the bridge version of camera raw to edit your raw photos. That has many more options than the PSE version of the raw converter. (If you still have PSE 8, you can see the difference by using File>Open in the editor to open a raw photo for the PSE version of ACR, which works the same way in PSE 9.) In PSE's raw converter, you use the Open button, then save your photo in an image format in the editor. The Save button in ACR in PSE is only the DNG converter.
Layer styles should work exactly the same way as in PSE 8. However, in any version of PSE a drop shadow, like a real shadow, needs someplace to fall, so unless there is empty space on the layer, it won't appear. Try creating text or drawing and simplifying a shape and adding a drop shadow. Does it appear then?
Also remember that Jpegs won't let you save either layers or transparency when you resave the file.

  • I cannot access the camera raw as a filter function in PS CC.

Am I missing something? I've seen videos where you can change a layer to smart filter and then use camera raw, but I don't have this option available. In addition, while in camera raw I do not have the same features as the videos from Terry White in terms of fixing vertical and horizontal lines. I have the sliders in lens correction but not the icon buttons.

    Am I missing something?
Yes. The end of the announcement - CC versions won't be available before June.

  • .psd files dose not open with Camera Raw

I noticed that if you have a ".psd" file  even if it is Flatten, it will not open in camera raw. I can easily save it to a Tiff or other formats and open it in camera raw, but I wonder why .psd file dose not open in camera raw
    Thanks

Yes, Trevor, you can indeed opened a non-layered PSD in Adobe Camera Raw—at least in perpetual-license CS6 and earlier, I don't know about the Cash Cow subscription version 14.x which I'm not going anywhere near.
What you cannot do is open a PSD in Camera Raw by double clicking on it.  You just have to go through  File > Open menu item and its dialog box.
Once you are in the Open dialog box, select the PSD file you want to open, go to the File Format button on the lower left-hand corner of said dialog box and from the list of formats available in the pop-up menu choose Camera Raw.  The Open button on the lower right will become active and you can then open your file in Adobe Camera Raw.
Just be sure not to choose the "Photoshop Raw" format from that list of formats in the pop-up menu. "Photoshop Raw" has nothing to do with digital photography at all; it's an ancient, obsolete file format that no one should be using these days.

  • Camera Raw opens image in PS CS6 but I want it to open it in PS CC

When I click "Open Image" in Camera Raw it tries to open it in PS CS6 but I want it to open it in PS CC which I installed after PS CS6.
How can I set the default editor for Camera Raw?

I don't know if you have Windows or OSX, so let's go with Windows.
    On the Windows level:
If you want your camera raw file to open in Photoshop and it doesn't, right click on it and choose
Open with > Choose default program… select Photoshop CC and checkmark "always use the selected program to open this type of file".
If you do not see Photoshop CC in the list, click on the Browse button at the bottom and navigate to where the Photoshop CC.exe is kept and choose it.
If you use Bridge CC (a separate download in Creative Cloud) you have to also set the default editor there.
Edit > Preferences > File Type Associations > find your camera raw file and select Photoshop CC from the dropdown menu.

  • Bridge does not show my Camera Raw Adjustments in previews or thumbnails.

Bridge CS6 on my Mac is not showing my Camera Raw adjustments in a preview pane or thumbnail.
Here's how it worked until recently:
    I open a .CR2
    I make some adjustments
    I click "Done"
The thumbnail and the preview show the adjustments I made
    Now, it works like this:
    Open a .CR2
    Make adjustments
    Click "Done"
The preview and thumbnail don't show all the adjustments. I can't see the results of noise removal, but I can see a drastic change in Exposure
If I double-click the CR2 file, it opens in Camera Raw, and I see all my adjustments, including noise removal.
Here's what I've tried, but saw  no difference (I restarted Bridge every time):
    Purge Cache
    Purge Cache for Selection
Replaced Camera Raw plug-in as described here: Camera Raw 8.4 | No metadata or Camera Raw edit
(Doing so made Camera Raw disappear in Bridge, so I restored the original file)
    Reset Preferences
    Reset Standard Workspaces
All the above fixes were inspired by this thread: Re: Bridge CS6 not showing Camera Raw adjustments
Why don't I see the noise removal effect in the previews? I am sure I saw it a few weeks ago. I rely on that, to help me sort and cull photos.
    I'm hoping there's a preference toggle that I accidentally changed. It's definitely a puzzle. (Version: Bridge CS6 5.0.1.21 5.0.2.4)
Message was edited by: moonatwork after updating Bridge version. I tried all the above fixes again, after updating Bridge. It actually got worse. I tried replacing the Camera Raw plugin, which failed as before. I then restored the previous plugin, as before, but Bridge now fails to honor the preference, "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge" and instead always opens Photoshop.

Thanks, Omke. I tried updating, then applying all the same fixes to the updated version. No change.
I can attach a screenshot, but I must block out names and faces. All you'll see is my Bridge interface, not the faces in the portraits. Hope that helps.

  • Camera raw doesn't open when opening a raw file in photoshop

I have a mac mini and am using the latest version of lightroom and have an EOS70d. The problem I experience is that when I open a raw file from lightroom it goes directly into photoshop without launching the camera raw plugin and when I manually launch the camera raw plugin from within photoshop, i do not see the details from the metadata in the image, such as colour temperature etc and there is no blue link at the bottom of the screen. I have tried the version of camera raw included in photoshop asnd the latest beta version, it's the same in both and also the same on my windows machine. I have also tried with raw images from my other cameras including ones taken a long time ago and that have previously opened in camera raw and they don't. Please help

As I said, read my post "Send me both ses files (no media) via my aatranslator dot com dot au web site".  I made no mention of saving "frozen track SES files without any media".
I understand your frustration but I only made an offer to assist.
Now if you want me to have a look at your ses file to see if I can work out what is going on then send it to me without sending any of the media associated with it.
If not I'm happy either way.
    BTW
The idea of sending 2 ses files is to compare the one which can't find the frozen track with one that has just been saved and apparently includes the frozen track.

  • Adobe Camera Raw and Aperture

Ok.. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because if what I am saying is actually true, then Aperture has some seriously frustrating issues.
I use Aperture 3 to organize my photos and to do minor corrections, but the majority of my photo editing takes place in Photoshop CS5. I shoot in Raw so I expect to be able to use Adobe's wonderful Camera Raw plugin before opening a photo in Photoshop.
Aperture gives you the ability to edit a photo in Photoshop and have the edited photo go back into Aperture. Thats a great feature. Unfortunately, it seems that if I try to send a raw photo from aperture to photoshop, it will not open in the Adobe Camera Raw plug in. It simply opens in photoshop. If I just drag the thumbnail from aperture into photoshop, it will open the camera raw dialogue and everythings great.. but if I do it that way, it will not update in aperture once I am done editing.
It would be totally fine if I could just save the photoshop file and reimport it into aperture, but when I do that, it just shows up as a blank white photo, instead of the actual photo.
So long story short there is no way to use Aperture AND adobe camera raw. I don't want to use Bridge.
or is there???? Please give me a solution here or I want my money back.
Or is there a way to reopen the camera raw function in photoshop, once the photo is already opened?
    Thanks for your help!

I understand your concern, as I wondered the same thing. You might want to read http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11666552&#11666552
regarding a possible workflow for your situation (altho' they are using CS3, not CS5).
I use CS4 but want to move to CS5 to get the additional features of ACR (excellent noise reduction, lens-specific aberration controls, etc.) Thus, my interest in using ACR vs AP3 for some of my images.
I know now that AP3 is doing RAW processing at the moment of import, and that 'file' is no longer able to be processed by ACR via AP3. I was wondering about your trick of dragging the thumbnail to Photoshop and having it open in ACR. I cannot duplicate this, and I've tried different methods. If I could do this, that would be half the battle. (Can you enlighten me?) I will also take a look at Catapult.
I know of no way to open ACR while an image is open in Photoshop (APS). The plugin seems to kick in only when you open it from Bridge or the Finder.
Regarding the blank white photo, I'm assuming it is a PSD with no thumbnail. I have seen this when I import 'old' PSD's into AP3. I fixed this by going into the Preferences in APS, under File Handling/File Compatibility make sure you set 'Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility' to 'Always'. Then, you must open the blank white photo files and Save As... the same file name to overwrite the blank one. You should then see the thumbnail. (Also in APS Preferences, set File Saving Options, Image Preview to 'Always Save').
Granted, not having the option of easily using ACR is a tough pill to swallow for those of us who are in the Bridge/APS camp. I will readily forgo the 'pleasures' of using Bridge for AP3. I will NEVER give up APS since I need layers and graphic/text capabilities it offers. So a smooth interaction between AP3 and APS is a must for me. However, AP3 offers so much more than Lightroom, that I won't look back, now that I've made the switch. Good luck!

  • File appearence not the same in PS CS4, LR2 and Camera RAW

I've just noticed that files as displayed in Lightroom 2 or in Camera RAW, when opened in Photoshop CS4 have a different appearence. In Photoshop the file appears much flatter and with considerably less saturation and dynamic range. When you compare the files beside each other in RAW and in Lightroom, they look the same. I have tried exporting the files to Photoshop from Lightroom using the "open with Lightroom Edits" and Edit a Copy and Edit the original, but the results are the same. After editing a photo in Photoshop and saving it back into Lightroom, the photo appears very saturated in the Lightroom or in Camera RAW. I don't know how long this has been this way, but now that I hace noticed it, it is driving me nuts.
    Thanks for your help
    Steve

Christopher thank you so much for responding and you have pinpointed the problem. The problem was the color settings. Color settings were set to sRGB and when I changed it to ProPhoto RGB Photoshop rendered file as it appears in the files in Lightroom and Camera RAW. I shoot in ProPhotoRGB and that seems to be why the images looked so flat when imported using sRGB.
Thanks for taking the time to help

  • When I use the command "Place in photoshop" CC from Bridge CC, it skips the Camera Raw Dialog box

I am having an issue when I use the "Place in Photoshop" command from within Bridge CC, it is skipping the Camera Raw Dialog box and not behaving like a normal smart object. This has been my workflow for years and suddenly it's not working in CC. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

As far as i can tell, if you use Place>In Photoshop from Bridge with a camera raw file and don't have any other documents open, it skips the camera raw dialog, but does place (open as a smart object)
and then you can double click on the smart object icon on the thumbnail in the l;ayers panel to open camera raw.
If you already have a document open then Place>In Photoshop using a camera raw file opens the camera raw dialog before placing the photo.
Also check the photoshop>Preferences>General and verify you have Place or Drag Raster Images as Smart Objects checked.
The above behaviour seems to be the same in photoshop cc as past versions of photoshop, at least on the windows versions.

  • Opening image in photoshop automatically launches camera raw?

When I drag and drop an image into Photoshop, the image is automatically opened in Camera Raw. I don't want this and this didn't happen before. Why is this and where can I turn it off?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    M.

Found the solution - Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw… > JPEG and TIFF Handling > JPEG: Disable JPEG support.

  • Jpeg in camera raw on surface pro 3

when I open a jpeg on my surface pro 3 in camera raw, the adjustments don't align with the tool.
this does not happen with raw images.

Similar issues have been reported when the Display (Control Panel) size control has been set to larger expansion values, e.g. 150%.  I suspect on a Surface Pro the expansion is invoked well above 100% because of the extreme pixel density, otherwise text and icons become very small and difficult to read.
Set the value to 100% to determine if this is the problem.  If so, I see no recourse other than to report it to Adobe as a bug.

  • Camera Raw Plug-In V6.3.0.79 Problems

    BACKGROUND
I am running Elements 9 V9.0.2 on an iMac with V6.3.0.79 of the Camera Raw Plug-In.
I am totally new to Elements as of five weeks ago.
The Camera Raw Plug-In worked fine for the first several weeks.
Now, it locks me out of doing anything to a file once I go through Camera Raw - Open the file into the Elements Editor - try to do anything(i.e. duplicate background)
    PROBLEM
Sometime in the last few weeks, the Camera Raw Plug-in stopped working correctly:
1- Now, anytime I open a file into Camera Raw and
a- do nothing to file in Camera Raw OR
b- do anything simple/complex in Camera Raw
2- Then from Camera Raw choose the Open Button to go into the Elements Editor
3- The file is always "locked" - I can't even duplicate the background - all functionality is ghosted out.
4- Yet I can take that same file and go straight into the Elements Editor and I can duplicate the background.
5- This is not the way the Camera Raw plug-in worked for several weeks - I could duplicate the background in the Editor after going through Camera Raw.
    ATTEMPTED SOLUTIONS
1- I have reinstalled Elements 9 (and the Camera Raw Plug-In) three times - each time the install is totally successful
2- I have checked several forums I found nothing that would give a clue as to a possible solution
    POSSIBLE PROBLEM?
1- The only additional related software that I have newly installed around the time of the first occurance of this problem is Elements+
2- I am not saying that Elements+ is an issue, but it is the only "new" thing I can think of that may relate to the problem
3- I have left Elements+ out of the picture when I did the above 3 reinstalls.
    4- Nothing changes the problem
Does anyone have any ideas about what may be causing this?

    1. Yes there is no point in opening a jpeg from camera raw as 16 bit.
    2. Raw images have the most headroom for post processing and a much smoother tonal range.
    3. You can only do a small range of edits in PSE to 16 bit files, so the problem would remain. CS5 is required to use the full range of tools on large 16 bit files. I always shoot in raw and use Adobe Lightroom for all my raw processing and rarely need elements except for any artistic stuff and adding text. Aperture is available on the Mac and can now be purchased from the app store at a knock down price almost equivalent to Elements.

  • PSE 7 - CS4...no camera raw?

I have PSE 7 and just installed the trial version of CS4, when I use PSE7 to open a pentax k200d PEF raw image in CS4 I dont get the option to use camera raw, the conversion is done automaticly. When I open the same image in the PSE7 editor or directly in CS4, camera raw opens the way it should. Is there a setting somewhere to change this?
A friend of mine has PSE5 and CS3 and that combination works just fine (PSE5 -> Camera Raw -> CS3)
    /Sven

I don't know the exact knowledgebase atricle but this is a known issue.  I don't know if Adobe is going to correct this or not.  You'll have to use Bridge to process the RAW files.  Then import them into PSE when you are finished with any RAW updates.
