Camera Raw 8.7.1 color issues

After the recent camera raw update to 8.7.1 I have noticed some pretty bad color shifts between camera raw and photoshop cs6. The colors in camera raw look very saturated and then when moving into photoshop the saturation shift is pretty dramatic. I never had these issues before the update. I have attached a screenshot illustrating the color issue. I am working on a very good monitor ( NEC PA 242W ) and it is color calibrated using NEC Spectraview calibration system. I have double checked my color setting in photoshop and camera raw to make sure I was viewing the same color space. I am just wondering if this is maybe a bug in the update and others are experiencing the same issues or if I am just missing something.
I would also add that I am using the Creative Suite CS6 and not CC. If that makes a difference.

Thanks ssprengel for the suggestions and running a side by side yourself. I went through all my settings and applied your suggestions and did a side by side each time. I even uninstalled the entire creative suite on my system then reinstalled and updated and I still get the same outcome. It was fine yesterday with the previous version of ACR. It seems like the updated version is not showing the image preview in any color space. When I switch the color space in the workflow options the histogram changes but it doesn't seem to affect the preview window. And yes the preview button was checked on it was just when I was using the screen grab tool in windows it took focus away from the application so that is why the settings appear grayed out. I have attached more screen grabs below illustrating all my settings. Also here is some system info if anyone out there has a similar setup and would be willing to test.

  • Camera Raw 7.1 Columnar Color Artifacts

Adobe:  For some reason you wouldn't listen when these problems were reported during beta and you went ahead and released the new version, so I'm not sure I should even bother, but here goes:
Camera Raw 7.1 introduces columnar artifacts in the red color channel (that I've seen), apparently as a result of the operation of the new half-baked defringing features.  I've seen this in a number of images.
Here's a raw Canon EOS-40D file and associated XMP with which you can reproduce the problem. Look at the red channel in the blue water of the pool.
    http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/IMG_5037.zip
Now convert the same file with version 7.0 (or 7.1 with the Defringe sliders set to 0) and compare the result.
Trouble is, without being able to use the Defringe (Purple/Green) features at all, and considering the Defringe:  All Edges feature has been removed, edge artifacts from the debayering process get to be unacceptable.
Let me spell out for you what you need to do, in case it isn't obvious:
    1.  You need to bring back the Defringe:  Off / Highlight Edges / All Edges feature that you had in 7.0 and earlier.
    2.  You need to fix this new slider-based defringe facility so that it doesn't do such nasty things to the image. I'd advise you to listen to Vit Novak's input on what else to do to it.
With BOTH of these things done, between the two one could actually hope to get an improved result over the conversions from 7.0.  Fixing the second alone won't cut it.
    -Noel

Back off?  I should heed your expert advice on avoiding confrontation, Jeff?    I have to assume by your unwavering support of Adobe on this issue that you are looking forward to having stylish artifacts like these in your own images.  I guess this will define your new style for 2012.  LOL
All the slack that's going to be cut on this has already been cut.
Hey, I could have just quietly dropped back to 7.0 and just have my own images be superior to those made by those using 7.1, but no - I chose to try to help Adobe by pointing out a problem to them here.
When I reported this problem during the beta, I was clearly ignored.  When I reported it again after the release, I was argued-with.
I don't need to be argued-with nor reasoned-with - Adobe needs to listen to people who know what they're talking about.  People not blindly praising the emperor's new clothes.
I don't need nor expect appreciation, but I had thought I might have earned enough respect around here that Adobe's first response wouldn't be "choose different settings, stupid".
An output image quality problem should be a release show-stopper. Experts like me and Vit telling Adobe that their latest color fringing reduction changes aren't working well enough should be considered seriously. Instead, it's just business as usual: Release whatever's in the pipeline.
Adobe's dropping quality standards are something I find myself wanting less and less to be associated with each passing day.
Just typing this message took me longer than it should have, because of this bogus forum software.
There's a difference between leadership and "too big to fail" thinking.
This is my last post in this thread.  Thanks for your participation.

  • Photoshop CS6/Camera RAW 8.8 Inconsistent Color Edits

I just updated my Windows Photoshop CS6 to 13.01x64 and my Camera Raw to 8.8.0.397. My issue since updating is when I open a RAW file and edit it in that window, when I click 'Open Image' and it converts it into the Photoshop window (to further edit), the colour is very different than it was in the RAW window. Below is an example where I went extreme to show the issue. The left is the RAW window and the right is when it converted to after I clicked 'Open Image'. It's much more muted and the colours are quite different. You can see the difference especially in his face. I'm beginning to feel desperate. Can anyone help?

I'm not seeing it with CC 2014.2.2 and ACR 8.8, but then again it's a different PS version and different RAW.
Maybe something happen with color settings in Photoshop?

  • Camera raw update 3.2 create issues with panasonic square LX3 raw

    Hi everybody,
since I've installed the last camera raw update(ie 3.2), my square raw from my panasonic LX3 are not recognised anymore by snow leopard, I can't even get a preview on any of my square raw.
As it was working perfectly before this update, is there a way to remove this update?
    Can you reproduce this issue?
    thanks for your attention

I have the Leica D Lux 4 and it does the same thing with my camera using 1:1 aspect ratio. I've since rolled the raw update back to version 3 and all is normal again. If you read this thread, it explains how to roll back the raw update.

  • Camera RAW 8.5 Auto-correct issues?

I upgraded to CC2014, which installed Camera RAW 8.5. Now, when I attempt to use the Auto exposure correct (I know, I shouldn't depend on it, but it always used to give me a decent starting place), it always pushes the images to look about a stop or two overexposed. Is anyone else experiencing this? It really feels as though the algorithm has changed.

Here is a manual install process for ACR 8.5:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-applictions-cannot-updated.html
After doing this, you’ll also want to install the DNG Converter 8.5 to update all the camera profiles and lens profiles.  Get the DNGC from here:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates

  • Camera Raw vs Lightroom Color Spaces

I photographed RAW image of a Gregtag color target with my Nikon D300 and opened it in camera raw in the ProPhoto Color space and adjusted the develop sliders so that the tone squares on the bottom row matched the ProPhoto values, (e.g approx 238,189,144,103,66,37) and ran the Robert Fors calibration script.
So far so good. I have read that all one needs to do is use the same settings in Lightroom. But when I opened the exact same RAW file in Lightroom and use the exact same develop and calibration settings that I used in ACR, it gives different values for the tone squares. And in fact the values are almost exactly the values for Adobe RGB (e.g. approx 242,200,159,121,84,53). And when I open that file in Photoshop from Lightroom using the ProPhoto color space option the value stay at the same Adobe RGB levels within the ProPhoto color space.
    What am I missing/doing wrong?

the values in lightroom are not based on prophotoRGB, but on a prophotoRGB-derived space with the same primaries but with a sRGB tone curve. Since adobeRGB has almost the same tonecurve as sRGB, your values came out close. Bottomline is that the values do not correspond to the ppRGB values in ACR.

  • Window Background color in Camera Raw 6.0

I've recently upgraded to Windows 7 x64 and CS5.  Everything seemed normal the first couple days, but when I opened Camera Raw today, the background color of the window is an off-pink.  The image is fine, but the surrounding background color has changed from the traditional white.  Also, the color around the image previews on the left side is pink-ish as well as the background of the graph on the right.
This is extremely distracting, does anyone know how to change it back?

It will be in 6.1, not 6.0.

  • Merge to HDR Pro and Camera Raw stop working...

I have been noticing for the past few days that two aspects of PS CS6 completely stop working. Those are Merge to HDR Pro and Camera Raw 7.0. What happens is I can see a photo yet no changes take place no matter what I change, I try zooming, I try changing settings, nothing at all changes. At one point Merge to HDR Pro would not let me cancel or click okay to do anything. To solve this problem I must reboot PS. Merge to HDR Pro this problem keeps happening, with Camera Raw I have seen this issue twice so far.
I am running Windows XP (SP3).

Hello, I think that you search for https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=labs%5Fdngprofileeditor
Here is a PDF from adobe about it: http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/photoshop/pdfs/cs6/ DNGProfile_EditorDocumentation.pdf

  • Camera RAW and Elements Hang during Thumbnail Generation...

Ever since I upgraded to the newest version of Camera Raw, I have been having issues with Photoshop Elements hanging while automatically generating thumbnails, anyone else notice this issue?
Hang is not quite the right description... So I import a batch of pictures and PSE starts processing the files ("Generating Thumbnails" is in the tool bar at the bottom). After a few images are processed, it just stops. If I try to force an update of the thumbnail ("Update Thumbnail" option under the Edit menu), a broken image just come back. No mater what I do, it just sits there and will not resolve the thumbnail issue until I close out PSE and go into task manager and make sure that the task is killed.
On the other hand, while I can not get the thumbnails generated, I can go into the Editor with a raw image and it opens in Camera Raw without any problems.
Anyone else having similar issues? Know anything to try?
    * Yes I have the most recent version of Camera Raw. When I downgrade to an older version of Camera Raw, the issue seems to go away.
    * I can not use the old version all the time because I have a Nikon D300, which is only supported in the newest version. I confirmed the working of things with some of my D200 files.
    * I am using Photoshop Elements 6.0, mainly for organization of all my images because I take a lot of them.
    * I am doing this on a Windows XP x64 machine
    * Based on a post someplace, I did check that my default printer on my machine is set to a printer that is always on the machine (PDF writer) and not a network printer/printer that has been disconnected.
Thank you for any help/suggestions that anyone can give me...
    -Matt

Have you tried the Elements forum?
Not many visitors here have Elements, mostly PSCS and Bridge.
If you where using Bridge I would suggest to purge cache and or refresh the preferences but I have no clue if this is possible in Elements? :-(
    Edit:
Do you have enough RAM installed, generating thumbnails from RAW can take a lot of energy from the OS...

  • Need to add new cameras to Camera Raw in PS CS2 (not ready to update to CS6 yet).  Can do... how?

Windows Vista-64, CS2 Photoshop and Illustrator.  CS2 works well for what I do... don't need to update yet.  Need to add Canon 5D Mark2.  When try to open Raw files, get error message: Photoshop says it can't complete the request because it isn't the right kind of document.  I believe this means that the camera is not recognized.  Current DNG Converter is 3.7.  Would like to add Raw support for all newer cameras, so able to work with files from virtually any customer.

I use camera raw to make preliminary color/brightness/contrast adjustments then save as 16-bit RGB file... then final adjustments in Photoshop.  If I can add (for example) DNG Converter 8.2, to simply allow the CR2 image to open, then I don't need any other features.  What I gain be upgrading to CS6 is additional functionality in Photoshop... no doubt I will be very glad when I do, but meanwhile I only need camera raw as a preliminary step in my workflow.
Not brain surgery... whatever additional functionality is available in Canon 5d mark 2 that is not in Canon 5d is unnecessary for my purposes now.  Is there a reason that Adobe would not allow adding 5d mk2 (even if not all functionality is enabled)?
Ideally, I would hope to download DNG Converter 8.2, install it in my Photoshop CS2, and continue with my normal workflow process.  Adobe could easily create a warning that "some functionality provided in certain newer camera files is not available, recommend upgrading to CS6."  Just makes sense to support users as long as possible rather than force the upgrade.

  • Bridge CS6 no inicia camera raw

  • Is it possible to do gradient-based changes between pictures in Camera RAW?

Say I have 10 pictures. The C-RAW setting for 1 and 10 are different. Is it possible to change the remaining pictures, 2-9, as a gradient between the settings of 1 and 10?
    Thanks in advance

If the photos were already frames of a video then video editor can do transitions which include brightening to white but you’re talking about individual photos.
Assuming a Photoshop script (not recorded action, but a hand-coded one via the extend-a-script toolkit) can parse a number out of a particular picture’s filename, if the filenames of the photos were in an increasing order then there is probably some way to apply a numeric transformation of the filename number to a varying brightness value that is applied to a set of raws selected in Bridge, but I have never written such scripts so can’t really give any more specifics about your requested task.
I am vaguely familiar with Photoshop scripts from a long-since obsolete site hosting the ACR Calibrator script that would operate on a raw photo of the color-checker target and compute color adjustments for camera raw to optimize those colors.  If you are a programmer familiar with JavaScript then this might be enough information to write your own brightening script:
