Camera Raw 8 the same cropping choices as are in Lightroom and Photoshop?

Seriously, how hard would it be to give Camera Raw 8 the same cropping choices as are in Lightroom and Photoshop (i.e., Fibonacci, Triangle, Diagonal, etc.)? This disparity in features is inexcusable and embarrassing. Surely the teams communicate?

I don't have CC nor LR.  Just be sure you are comparing apples to apples
That is a nice statement for a Windows guy…
I never use crop in ACR because I like this feature more in PS itself. Also the inability to save crop presets in ACR makes it very limited. The ACR engine for PS and LR are the same, the body differs.
Thanks to hard yelling people we now have about the same crop tool in PS as in LR. Although I still don't like it in PS, after having used it years and years I now have to move the image instead of the crop.
Sadly the ability to rotate crop and having adjust it automatically to the borders is a very nice option. If it wasn't for this I would stay with the old classic mode.
But the OP is right, many features in different Adobe Products have somewhat the same result but sometimes very different approaches, options and tools.
Until the Adobe HQ is going to settle in Utopia we might be better off trying to learn living with it

  • Is editing in Photoshop with Adobe camera RAW the same as editing in Lightroom?

    Hi,
I have been learning to use LIghtroom, and I am now reasonably comfortable with it.  I shoot in RAW, and do my import, organizing and editing in Lightroom.  My next goal is to start learning to use Photoshop (which looks like a much bigger leap than just Lightroom !).
My question is this:  from all my online reading and watching videos, it seems that some people edit mainly in Lightroom and work on photos in Photoshop when needed, whereas some people like to work mainly in Photoshop.  If the original RAW photo is imported into Photoshop, I believe it first opens in Camera RAW, and the editing tools there seem almost identical to Lightroom.  Is that the case?  In other words, is editing in Camera RAW (within Photoshop) essentially the same as editing the RAW photo in Lightroom?  Any advantages to doing it in Camera RAW?
    thanks,
    Neil

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom® software is built upon the same powerful raw processing technology that is available in the Camera Raw plug-in.

  • Thumbnails on my desk top have LARGE check marks mostly covering the picture. I have processed thes picts in Lightroom and Photoshop  11

Opening from my desk top thumbnails have a LARGE checkmark covering most of the picture. I have used both Lightroom and Photoshop 11 to process these picts,

When I open Lightroom and view the thumbnails the check marks are there.
So when you're seeing the check marks, do this:
    1. On Mac: Type Shift - Command - 3. This will place a .png screenshot on your desktop.
    2. On Windows: Type Windows-Logo - Print Screen (sometimes labeled PrtScr). This will place a .png screenshot in your Pictures\Screenshots.

  • Is in-camera sharpness the same as sharpening in post?

(for the "Do-a-search" police, I've been searching for a tad over 90 minutes..and a simple URL pointing to a definitive answer will be appreciated as much as a detailed treatise.)
Preamble- serious, but amateur, T3i moving to T6s (maybe 7d next year), and all lenses less than $500 - mostly jpg, but will shoot RAW + L occasionally.
For JPG shooting:Is In-Camera sharpness 0-to-7 the same as the sharpening in post? If you're going to PP anyway, does in-Camera sharpening provide a benefit that cannot be obtained in post?  Is there any disadvantage to using in-camera sharpening?
    Thanks for your time!

In both cases (in-camera JPEG sharpenving vs. Photoshop) you are applying the sharpening to the image after-the-fact.  More desirable would be to manage to achieve better focus (and it's not just "missing" focus because lenses have a whole set of reasons for why they may or may not appear "sharp" and focus is just one of them... there's also contrast, detail resolving power, chromatic aberation, diffraction limits, and various types of distortion.)
One might argue that one software algorithm for sharpening may be better than another.  Sharpening has an undesriable side-effect of increasign "noise".  I like software that allows me to selectly choose which areas of an image I choose to sharpen (perhaps for a portrait you choose just do eyes, eyebrows, but I don't do the whole image).  You can't do "selective" application of sharpening in-camera so... one might argue that doing it an editor/adjustment program has some advantages.
But there are limits to what you can do.
The following article is a bit indirect... because rather than arguing about how to sharpen after-the-fact it really discusses how lenses work and how an image that was focused as best as possible might not actually appear "sharp" and what happens when you try to apply sharpening to the image via software:
    http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2009/06/have-you-seen-my-acutance
Of particular interest in the article, he shows a series of black bars... and there are 5 sets of them.  The first set of black bars is perfectly focused... set #2 is the same bars but just gently off focus.  Set #3 is the same again, but more off focus.  And here's where it gets interesting... set #4 is REALLY set #2... but with sharpening applied.  And set #5 is REALLY set #3 but with sharpening applied.  And you'll notice that the sharpening actually seems to work for this first really bold set of bars (although you can see the bars widen at the end...almost like serifs.
But then... he does it again using a much finer set of black bars.  He misses focus by the same amounts in #2 and #3.  And he applies the same sharpening in #4 and #5... but while he recovers "sharpness" considerably in example #4 of the finer lines... it's a complete loss when he does the same thing in #5.
If the detail is too fine and the "sharpness" is off by too much (for whatever reason) there's no recovering from it.

  • I have photos from several cameras of the same event, how do I combine them?

I have photos from several cameras of the same events.  How can I sort them together, three pics of the same horse from three cameras side by side; I can't move pics from one camera source to another in a folder.

Languare is critical since it is all we have to communicate with
Folders in iPhoto do not hold photos - folders hold only other folders or albums
If you are speaking of events then you simply merge the events (drag one onto another or select two or more and use the merge events command - for the photos to be "side by side" the three camera's time/date setting will have to be identical as photos will be sorted by time/date - if they are not you can correct by selecting the photos in an event (before merging) and using the adjust time and date command or you can make a smart album for the camera and select the photos and use the adjust time and date command

  • Two cameras at the same time Lab view (NI MAX)

I have two similar Point Grey Firefly MV cameras. I need to use them simultaneously in LabVIEW, but NI MAX only detects one at the same time (the two cameras are detected properly separately). I think that NI MAX identifies both camera as the same camera, but I dont know how to change the name of one of those cameras, or maybe change the serial number. Also NI MAX gives the same serial number to both of them. I would apreciate your help
    Thank you.

    Hi Aurelio,
This is a commom issue for USB Cameras. Once IMAQdx calls the camera driver to acquire image, if the camera driver cannot acquire from 2 cameras, IMAQdx cannot acquire from 2 cameras too.
You can ask to camera vendor about how the camera driver works.

  • I would like to import two different cf cards from two different cameras into the same project/folder and have them be in order of the times they were taken, is there a trick?

I would like to import two different cf cards from two different cameras into the same project/folder and have them be in the order of the times they were taken, any ideas on how to do this?

Just import them normally and sort the project by date. They will fall into place. If you tried this and it isn;t happening then make sure the data and times on the two cameras are identical and make sure you are sorting by date and time and nothing else.

  • When I check my boot SSD drive using Disk Utility under Mavericks, I often get "Incorrect number of extended attributes" errors.  But if I boot off an external drive and check the same SSD, no errors are reported.  Is this a bug in Mavericks?

When I check my boot SSD drive using Disk Utility under Mavericks, I often get "Incorrect number of extended attributes" errors.  But if I boot off an external drive and check the same SSD, no errors are reported.
This happens not just with the SSD in my Mac Mini, but with another SSD in my MacBook (both now running Mavericks).  So far as I know, all of the kit I am using is in good order (despite the file corruption reports).  So I am beginning to wonder if it could be due to a bug in Mavericks?  Both SSD drives have been formatted to MacOS Extended (journaled) format.  Should I have used a different format, I wonder?
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
    Does anyone have a solution?
Or an explanation that might help my investigation of the issue?
    Thanks guys,

I understand that the Corsair Force 3 is not one of the SSD drives that are supported on Apple Macs.
I did try downloading and using Trim Enabler, but the error message came up both when it was off and when it was on.
I understand that not everyone thinks Trim Enabler is a good program, though there is a new version out now, so I may give it another try.

  • How to copy and paste the same answer choices multiple times

I am making testing forms and each question has the same multiple choice answer selection.  I have been having to type each one of them individually instead of being able to duplicate it for each question.  How can I do what in Word would just be a "copy and paste" function?

So you want the user/person to do the "cut&paste" action (ie. ctrlc ctrlv) and have the data paste itself across rows correctly much like Excel does. I don't think this "intelligence" is built into Adobe table controls as it is in Excel (and Excel is smart enough to even handle it different ways depending on how the user selects cells).
The only thing I can think of is that you could "capture" the user trying to paste into a cell/row in your table (maybe in the onFocus or onClick events), then grab the data, parse it out (but looking for some character) and then have your code distribute the data across the rows. However, I personally think that would be a lot of overkill and prone to other issues and errors.

  • How do use the same crop for multiple images.

I have a number of images that I want to use the same crop on. Instead of go through the whole slow process for each image is there a way to use the same crop for all of the images?
And in iPhoto there was a way to copy the adjustment settings to multiple images, I can't see how to do that in aperture.

    Use the "Lift&Stamp" tool:
    Crop one image.
Lift the crop using the "Lift" tool.
    Select the other images.
Stamp the crop adjustment to all of them.
But caution: By default "Lift" will copy all Metadata tags and all adjustments, but the gps data. If you only want to transfer the cropping rectangle, deselect all lifted items but the crop adjustment before stamping.

  • Can you use the same charging cable for both an iPhone and an IPad or are they different?  When I use the charging cable for my iPhone on my Ipad, it doesn't charge.

Can you use the same charging cable for both an iPhone and an IPad or are they different?  When I use the charging cable for my iPhone on my Ipad, it doesn't charge.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Got my daughter an ipod touch 4th and it wont dothe back up from itunes? I bought my other daughter an iphone 4 and its doing the same thing. Both are locking up itunes too. I tried the deactivate/activate that was suggested it still didnt work. I took the ipod to a friend and hooked to her laptop and it synced fine but now trying to sync on mine it wont do it and it has the backup encryption on but no passwords will unlock it. itunes will reccognize the ipod and the iphone but while going thru the sync steps they both get to step 2 then lock up itunes and then says its syncing but will never stop. I am very frustrated and am regretting buying products from Apple.

It seems to be a glitch or bug. Its been officially acknowledged and addressed by Apple. There is no resolution other than waiting for a few days.   The Kb article by Apple states it will fix itself on January 7.

How can I import photos into Organiser in the same order as they are in my files?

You can do a change to your files you want to import so they are in order that your version of PSE uses.
One of the benefits of PSE is that you are no longer limited to specific order or locations of pictures. If you want a spefic order for display purposes create an album and your order will be maintained in the album. Other than that I keep my display on Newest first(I have PSE 11) and rarely change it.
