Camera Raw Corrupting Files

I have many photos taken on a Leica P&S. It records record raw format and jpg. Some of the photos were actually of important subjects that I would like to preserve. I have recently noticed that the Raw files become corrupted when I open them in the Camera Raw (I'm using 5.5.0.97 and PShop CS4 11.0.1) The JPG files do not seem to be affected -only raw.
I thought this might be a hard drive corruption, but when images appear in the Raw converter, I actually see the corruption occur after about 2 seconds. Magenta lines appear around highlight edges -and this becomes permanent if the image is processed.  Processing in the Raw converter (not Bridge) appears to be where the corruption occurs. I'm thinking the only way to preserve the remaining images might be to process Lightroom. But I'm holding off for now until I'm sure of the cause. Has anyone experienced a similar phenomenon?

Magenta lines appear around highlight edges -and this becomes permanent if the image is processed.
My guess is that you're seeing the highlight clipping indicator which displays a red (perhaps you're seeing it as magenta) overlay on the areas being clipped.
Do this:
While in the Camera Raw window, look at the histogram (in the top right corner.)
There are two triangle buttons in the histogram window.
Click the one on the right (above the highlight end of the histogram.)
That button toggles on/off the highlight clipping overlay.
The other triangle button toggles on/off shadow clipping (which displays a blue overlay on the areas being clipped.)

  • I just found an error in the file name for my Camera Raw Cache file.  How do I correct it?

I just found an error in the file name for my camera raw cache file.  The error is in my username.  I don't know how to correct the error or if I should just leave it.  I'm not sure where my cache file is stored on my computer.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

Since you are on a Mac if when you first set up your account you left out the i in Wilson nothing you do will change that. The REAL account name will always be alicewlson. Once an account is created you can't actually change the name of it. You can change the name that is displayed but not the REAL account name.
Simplest thing to do is stop worrying about it. Everything is as it should be, that is except Wilson being spelled without the i.

I believe I made the error in my user name when I first got my computer a year ago. I then corrected it under my user name but not in my Lightroom files. I also looked for files with a .lrdata extension and didn't find any.

  • Can't open Camera Raw (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3?

I can't seem to open Camera Raw CR2 files in Photoshop CS3, my CameraRaw plug in version says it's 4.6 - any help appreciated.

Have you tried opening up out of Bridge? If that doesn't work you may new need to download a new driver from Canon. All my peripherals are Canon and I am always having to download new drivers everytime I update. Fortunatly they are really easy to find on Canon's site.

  • IPhoto '09 not importing Camera Raw (.CR2) files

Recently purchased a new Mac Pro and tried to import my Camera Raw files from a supported camera. iPhoto refuses to import (unrecognized file format) files. Does anyone know the solution? I have over 1,700 camera raw (.CR2) files I need to import.

    Larry,
Cameras were Canon 20D and 50D. Until yesterday both were using the sRAW color space - switched them to Adobe RAW today. Problem was the 1,700 pictures with sRAW colorspace taken over the past few years - no issue importing into Adobe Photoshop CS4 (not surprising at it uses its own libraries), problem was only with iPhoto. I had what iPhoto reported as the latest update to Camera Raw, however when I browsed the Apple support pages I found v3.0 which I installed. That fixed the problem as it now has sRAW support for Canon cameras.
Only issue that remains is importing of DNG formatted pictures. iPhoto will not import those, which is hard to understand as it is becoming the defacto cross platform format for RAW files.
I don't recall having this issue on my older MacBook using an older version of iPhoto and older libraries...
Anyway, good news is that v3.0 fixed the problem.
    Thanks.

  • Where do I find the Camera Raw settings file?

I've been running Creative Suite 3 on a MacBook Pro. I just bought a Mac Pro so got my disks off the shelf to install on the new machine. That's when I found I have to deactive the programmes on the laptop in order to install them on the tower. (Which strikes me as outrageously restrictive. How many people work on a tower at home and a laptop for the road?)
Having gone throught the deactivation/activation process, I opened Photoshop to process some NEF files, and then remembered that my Camera Raw settings were somewhere on the laptop - but where ??? I assume there must be a file somewhere, but have not so far been able to find it.
    Any ideas gratefully received.
    Thanks

By "Camera Raw Settings file", I take it that you are looking for the develop settings for each raw file. These settings can be stored in two ways. The first and most common method is to store them as sidecar *.xmp files in the same directory as the NEFs. The other method is to store them in a centrally located Camera Raw database. One can change these methods via the Edit Preferences menu of either Photoshop or Camera Raw. Further information is here:

  • Camera Raw .CR2 file download failure from new Canon650D

I have the new model Canon650D and cannot download Camera Raw CR2 files into Photoshop Elements 10. I get a "program error" message on screen. I have tried converting to DNG files but get same error message. I have downloaded latest upgrades for Camera Raw plug-ins in Adobe Application Manager and evidently have the latest 6.7 version available. Is there a later upgrade or do I have to wait until Adobe catch up?

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) Try a differnt download (7.3 the latest) if DNG did not work before.
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • ACR 5.6 won't install (XP) ?get camera raw.8bi file to install manually

ACR 5.6 won't install on my XP 32-bit using the .exe installer.
Is there an option to get the camera raw.8bi file to install manually somnewhere?  Have the Canon 7D and would like to be able to use the Adobe converter.

To accomplish a manual install on Windows you can copy and rename the file:
    your-unzip-location-for-ACR56RC1\extensions\AdobeCameraRaw5.0All-121109114152\Assets\1003
to camera raw.8bi and put it in the directory previously mentioned.  The clue this is the right file is that it is about the right size as the existing Camera RAW.8bi but slightly larger.
What you can't install by this procedure are all the camera-specific profiles for newly supported cameras in this version.  You would probably need to install the LR 2.6 RC or maybe the DNG Converter 5.6 RC to get those.  For your 7D these would be the ones beyond the Beta that ACR 5.5 had.

When I selected "Save Image" there is an option to select the size of the JPEG preview. Is there anyway to extract the JPEG and does the JPEG contain the adjustments that were made to the Raw image?
The "Save image" command just saves (really converts) the original raw into another raw format : the DNG format created by Adobe to get a universal raw format instead of a specific raw format for each camera in the range of each camera manufacters... Using that feature is your choice.
And what you see in the bottom line : 8 bits or 16 bits has nothing to do with a preview, it is the choice of 'color depth' for the image the converters sends to the editor.
So, your choice is either :
    - to click 'Done' which saves the settings of your conversion (white balance, exposure, clarity...) to a very small 'sidecar' file of the xmp type
    - to 'Open' in the editor where you can work with all features of the editor (which include saving the output file in any format - jpeg - psd - tiff - png...

  • How to open Camera RAW (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3 and CS4? (Mac)

I have a Canon 7D. I prefer to shoot in raw format, but the CR2 files cannot be opened by either Photoshop CS3 on my Mac in the office OR by Photoshop CS4 on my iMac at home.
I have tried dowloading the Adobe DNG Coverter and Camera Raw 4.6 update (which is SUPPOSEDLY intended to work for CS3) and followed the instructions to replace the plug-in. STILL a no-go. CS3 STILL tells me "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
What gives? Does anyone know of a way to get CR2 files to open in Photoshop CS3 or CS4? (A way that actually works?) Because Adobe's plug-in update doesn't seem to do it, and Canon's "fine-grain" editing controls for raw images is pretty lack-luster.
    Thanks (in advance)!

  • PSE 9 cannot export camera raw edited files to a jpeg format.  Only available save as formats are photoshop and tiff.

In PSE 9  I am currently unable to save files that have been edited in camera raw as jpeg files.  When I try to export the file using 'save as'  the only listed options are versions of photoshop file formats and tiff - jpeg is not listed.  I did not have this problem previously when using Nikon D3000 camera. I now use a Nikon D7100. I have installed the 6.5 Camera Raw update but this has not solved the problem.  I would appreciate any suggestions for resolving this.
    Margaret

You have a 16-bit image and jpeg is an 8 bit format. You can set the raw converter to export as 8 bit by using the pulldown menu below the preview area, or you can just go to Image>Mode>8 bits/channel in the editor.

  • Cs5 camera raw: "this file could not be created" problem

When I'm attempting to save raw files in any format (jpeg, dng, tiff, etc) to a different directory from where they're intially opened from I get "this file could not be created" error.  It saves fine if goes to the same directory where the file has been opened from.
The problem started happening for no apparent reason.  There have been no changes to the system (no new installs, etc), except for recent adobe updates, but I can't find any other users complaining about this problem.  This happens on admin and all other accounts.  Any suggestions on how to fix it would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Hm, perhaps a folder closer to the root than the folder you have selected has a permissions issue.
Is the folder you're trying to use rooted on the hard drive (i.e., does the path begin with a drive letter)?
Keep in mind that whether you are an Administrator or not, with Windows UAC enabled the app is normally not running as an Administrator.  That can affect permissions.  You might want to either try running the app via Run As Administrator or temporarily disable Windows UAC to see if this is an issue.
How are you starting Camera Raw?  From within Photoshop or Bridge?
Also, do you have the latest Camera Raw update?

The question also applies to LR4, which si what I'm using.
If you mean does it move the files in the cache - I don't know, but I doubt it and it doesn't really matter.  It will just use the new cache location, so will be a bit slower until it builds up the cache (and it might leave a load of stranded garbage in the old location, so probably a good idea to purge the cache before changing the location, or delete the old one manually).

You can't because the file is rendered with the camera raw settings for re-saving e.g as tiff or jpeg.
You can re-open the raw file at any time exactly where you left off before any further pixel editing in Full edit.

  • How to combine Camera-Raw processed files to be viewed within Windows Explorer as processed

The problem I have with  camera processed files is that when viewed within Explorer what you did on the file, the crop, and other effects are not visible within Windows Explorer. What is visible there is the original file--this seems to be true of the original nef file in my case.  The change does appear if you save it as a .tif, .dng or .psd but not the NEF. But if you were to open again the NEF file and the RAW Window opens you can see your changes immediately.
I know it is because  with an original raw file nothing has been done to the image except give it instructions so to speak but Bridge does see it as such so why not let Explorer (Or other viewers, for ex. XnView) view it as such as well? Perhaps this is more a Microsoft Windows issue or what-have-you but I thought I would start to present it here first.
Where's the question? The question is not actually for someone to explain why this is so, I think I may understand this a little but rather the question is, would it be possible to let other software such as Explorer see the raw processed file--to let it see it as Bridge sees it? Yeah I guess this may be a Windows issue but.....
Why does this bother me? Since I don't use Photoshop or Bridge professionally I view images more often in Explorer then I do in Bridge or PS (The former is instantaneously viewable while the latter take way to long to open--and Bridge vs. XnView needs an extra step.)
Side note: Sometimes I feel I am wasting my time and yours in writing such silly questions nevertheless they present themselves in my brain and in the process I hope to learn something from it regardless of its silliness/stupidity. It is such questions which at times creates something original, therefore creativity, after all, does it not? (Or so I tell myself in order to justify it all :-)

The file PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exe is located in C:\Program

Additionally, it is a good idea to go to Elements Organizer preferences and
uncheck 'Automatically check for Services' and also uncheck 'Auto Launch

And, yes, ACR 4.3.1 should be manually installed. As a matter of fact, turn
