Camera Raw .CR2
Folks. First I am not a rocket scientist or Photoshop wizard. My CS3 won't open a camera raw .CR2 file from my Canon 40 D or 5D Mark II. What is the simple solution to this obvious simple problem?
Each new camera requires an update to Adobe Camera Raw to cater for it.
With Photoshop CS3 the last update was ACR 4.6. After that, updating continued in CS4.
Looking at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html, you will see that the 40D is covered by ACR 4.2 and later, so you need to to update to ACR 4.6 if you haven't already.
For the 5D Mk II you need ACR 5.2 so you will need to update Photoshop to CS4 and ACR 5.5 or use the stand-alone DNG converter to make the files readable.
Note that although Canon raw files are all suffixed .CR2 they are not the same for each camera.

I can't seem to open Camera Raw CR2 files in Photoshop CS3, my CameraRaw plug in version says it's 4.6 - any help appreciated.
Have you tried opening up out of Bridge? If that doesn't work you may new need to download a new driver from Canon. All my peripherals are Canon and I am always having to download new drivers everytime I update. Fortunatly they are really easy to find on Canon's site.

IPhoto '09 not importing Camera Raw (.CR2) files
Recently purchased a new Mac Pro and tried to import my Camera Raw files from a supported camera. iPhoto refuses to import (unrecognized file format) files. Does anyone know the solution? I have over 1,700 camera raw (.CR2) files I need to import.

Cameras were Canon 20D and 50D. Until yesterday both were using the sRAW color space - switched them to Adobe RAW today. Problem was the 1,700 pictures with sRAW colorspace taken over the past few years - no issue importing into Adobe Photoshop CS4 (not surprising at it uses its own libraries), problem was only with iPhoto. I had what iPhoto reported as the latest update to Camera Raw, however when I browsed the Apple support pages I found v3.0 which I installed. That fixed the problem as it now has sRAW support for Canon cameras.
Only issue that remains is importing of DNG formatted pictures. iPhoto will not import those, which is hard to understand as it is becoming the defacto cross platform format for RAW files.
I don't recall having this issue on my older MacBook using an older version of iPhoto and older libraries...
Anyway, good news is that v3.0 fixed the problem.

Camera Raw .CR2 file download failure from new Canon650D
I have the new model Canon650D and cannot download Camera Raw CR2 files into Photoshop Elements 10. I get a "program error" message on screen. I have tried converting to DNG files but get same error message. I have downloaded latest upgrades for Camera Raw plug-ins in Adobe Application Manager and evidently have the latest 6.7 version available. Is there a later upgrade or do I have to wait until Adobe catch up?
You have two alternatives:
(1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) Try a differnt download (7.3 the latest) if DNG did not work before.

How to open Camera RAW (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3 and CS4? (Mac)
I have a Canon 7D. I prefer to shoot in raw format, but the CR2 files cannot be opened by either Photoshop CS3 on my Mac in the office OR by Photoshop CS4 on my iMac at home.
I have tried dowloading the Adobe DNG Coverter and Camera Raw 4.6 update (which is SUPPOSEDLY intended to work for CS3) and followed the instructions to replace the plug-in. STILL a no-go. CS3 STILL tells me "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
What gives? Does anyone know of a way to get CR2 files to open in Photoshop CS3 or CS4? (A way that actually works?) Because Adobe's plug-in update doesn't seem to do it, and Canon's "fine-grain" editing controls for raw images is pretty lack-luster.

Doing some timelapse stuff at the moment and trying to use cr2 raw files with CS4 After Effects
I have Camera Raw plug-in 5.7
The .CR2 open fine in Photoshop but I get the good old error 45::35 cannot parse file when I try to open in After Effects. I'd normally check the colour space/format but in this case I'm using a 3rd party program that suggests a workflow which imports Raw CR2's into AE.
Is this possible to import CR2's into AE or do I have to convert everything to tiff's/jpegs first?

I'm having trouble installing the update for camera raw CR2 file reading in photoshop CS5.
I've downloaded the update, but cannot seem to get it attached to the program, they're not getting embedded somehow. Any ideas?

You're not supposed to "embed" anything. You need to install the Camera Raw 6.7.1 plug-in strictly according to the very specific instructions for your platform, Mac or Windows, given on the download page.
Please note that later versions of Camera Raw (higher than 6.x) will not run on CS5. Make sure your specific camera model is supported in 6.7. "CR2" means nothing. Every Canon camera model generates a different flavor of CR2 files.
If your camera is one of the many newer models that was not supported in CS5, you will have to look for the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.1 or 8.2RC, download it, install it, and then run it in order to convert your raw Canon files to raw DNGs you can then open in ACR 6.7 hosted by CS5. -
CS 5.1 -64 Photoshop [Camera RAW] *.CR2 raw import error
Hi folks.
When try to open a RAW file into Photoshop (Camera RAW), error message occur:
"Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model witch is not supported by the installed version of Camera RAW".
This photo was shot by a Canon S-100 camera witch of course are listed up as supported file format, in help site for Camera RAW. So, what to do here?
I'm for sure, the latest Photoshop CS 5.1 (From master collection) are installed (seperate install).
Any tip, received with great thanks!What OS are you using? Camera Raw support for that camera was added in ACR 6.6. The latest version of ACR supported by CS5 is 6.7.1.

Trying to open Camera Raw (CR2)
Trying to open in PSE 11 but they open in Camera Raw 7.3. Anyway I was told to open them (3 images) from PSE bin amd then run photomerge of some kind. Please let me know the steps to do it right as I am jus starting this.
ThanksAfter they get opened in Camera Raw, click "Select All" at the top-left corner of Camera Raw dialog box. Now click on "Open Image" button. All the three images will get opened in PSE . Now chooose "Enhance Menu>Photomerge-" and then choose whichever photomerge you want to.

is iPhoto unable to process canon raw?The Raw from very model of camera - that's model, not make - is different. The Cr2 your 50D produces is not the same as a CR2 from a 40D.
So, yes, iPhoto is able to process Canon Raws from supported cameras.
Your 50D is supported by 10.6 and iPhoto 11. Did you get any error messages when you tried to import?

I am on Photoshop Extended version 12.1 x 64 on OSX 10.7.2 Lion and when I go into Aboout Plug-Ins, the "Camera Raw..." one is missing from the list. Ontop of that, I am unable to install the Camera Raw installer 6.5. I get the error message "Update Is Not Applicable". How do I fix this? do I just make a folder somwhere in the plug-ins folder? where? how? help!
I'm also unable to edit my camera RAW .CR2 files from my Canon Rebel XS running firmware 1.0.7 (however I know the reason why).
I get the error message "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."I've also now deleted the plug-ins folder found in my Library > Application Support > Adobe folder. uninstalled and then reinstalled photoshop and still nothing in the way of camera raw support. I do see an option for it in the preferences drop down however it says "Could not complete the Camera Raw command because the Adobe Camera Raw plugin cannot be found."
how can I put the plugin in the right place if the updater won't let me, where can I download just the .plugin file? -

I have a new canon power shot s100 so elements is not importing the raw files to the organizerThe only firewall is yours, but the update server is probably undergoing maintenance.

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?
Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1. An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6. If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates. If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

Can't open .CR2 files in PhotoShop CS5, Camera RAW or Adobe DNG Converter
Firstly take note I shot these with a Canon EOS 450D (or Rebel XSi)...
I see a lot of answers speaking about having the most up to date version of the Camera RAW Plug-in.
I have a similar issue with my .CR2 files... I cannot open them in Camera RAW because it tells me that my camera model or make is not supported by the Plug-in, and so I was directed by other forums to just try converting the .CR2 files to .DNG. I already had the Adobe DNG Converter (version 6.5 I believe), so I tried this. It too told me that my files or camera make were not supported.
However, I have always been able to successfully both open my .CR2 files AND convert them to .DNG. I had not updated anything on my camera nor on my Adobe programs and for some reason this last attempt to open RAW files failed me... I have no idea what change would have led to it. Luckily I shot in both RAW and Large JPG but I certainly don't want to rely on my JPGs of course... Any idea why this problem might have arisen now if it had always worked easily in the past?

Can you not open ANY Canon 450D files, even those you find online and download?
What I'm getting at with these questions is to try to eliminate or suspect data corruption of the files on your disk.
Exactly what versions of the various tools do you have, specifically (don't guess - go check)?

Question about auto spliting events?
I was wondering if pictures are automatically split depending on photo date for photo files imported from HD opposed to from the camera? When I updated iphoto 8 from 7 (or 6 can't remember) I have some events that show multiple dates in an album when
