Camera Raw Dialog box not opening automatically

When I try to open a raw image in photoshop CS3 for some reason the camera raw plugin dialog box is not automatically opening and I get a message that says "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file" I know I am missing something simple but how do i get the dialog box to open?

You need to make sure that the specific camera model is supported by the version of the ACR plug-in you have installed on your machine.
The current version of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) is ACR 4.5 and there is also ACR 4.6beta.
What version are you running and what camera generated your raw files?

  • I'm stuck! Going from LR3 to CS5 I don't get Camera Raw dialog box

I'm stuck. When I edit pics from LR3 to CS5 the Camera Raw dialog box does not open. Everything is updated.  I can get Camera Raw dialog box to open if I open a photo directly in to CS5.  I have looked at my external editing options.  All seems fine.  Please help.  Thanks!

I'm not a LR user, but I believe it serves as your raw converter (similarly to ACR), therefore when you edit directly out of LR into CS5 the image is already rendered ready for CS5 usage.  If you start directly in CS5 then ACR is invoked for raw file conversion.

  • How do you Re-Open the Camera Raw Dialog box after closing it?

    Hi All,
going crazy trying to figure out how to reopen the Camera Raw dialog box after closing it in photoshop. I know I found it once but have since forgetten. Any help would be much appreciated!
    thx!
    Jayson

When the image is open in ACR hold down the SHIFT key and you'll see the button marked Open Image changes to Open Object, so do your ACR adjustments then hold down shift and click Open Object - your image will open as a Smart Object in Photoshop.
If using Lightroom you can right click the image and select Edit>Open as Smart Object in Photoshop from the drop-down menu.
Do not confuse normal smart objects with what we're talking about here, Camera RAW Smart Objects - possibly one of the most powerful tools to have at your dispossal, once you understand them.
    Hope this helps

  • Missing Camera Raw Dialog Box in Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows.

    Hello,
I have Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows. This runs on a 32-bit Windows Vista VirtualBox virtual machine.
It has been running fine, but suddenly opening raw Nikon images no longer opens the Camera Raw Dialog box, but takes me straight into editing on Photoshop Elements.
I really like having the Camera Raw Dialog box open as I do most of my image processing using this before opening the resulting file in Elements.
Does anyone know how to get this box back, or to open it from within Elements?
I have tried opening the images from within Photoshop Elements using the "Open As..." mnu item from the File menu, and the selecting "Camera Raw" as the image type, but it still opens without the Camera Raw Dialog box.
    Thanks very much.

Check your screen resolution settings for vista.
I believe the screen resolution needs to be at least 1024 x 768 for the camera raw dialog to show in pse 8.
For example, if instead of running VirtualBox full screen, your running it in windowed or seamless mode and made the window smaller by dragging on the corner, that would automatically lessen the screen resolution in vista.

  • When I use the command "Place in photoshop" CC from Bridge CC, it skips the Camera Raw Dialog box

I am having an issue when I use the "Place in Photoshop" command from within Bridge CC, it is skipping the Camera Raw Dialog box and not behaving like a normal smart object. This has been my workflow for years and suddenly it's not working in CC. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

As far as i can tell, if you use Place>In Photoshop from Bridge with a camera raw file and don't have any other documents open, it skips the camera raw dialog, but does place (open as a smart object)
and then you can double click on the smart object icon on the thumbnail in the l;ayers panel to open camera raw.
If you already have a document open then Place>In Photoshop using a camera raw file opens the camera raw dialog before placing the photo.
Also check the photoshop>Preferences>General and verify you have Place or Drag Raster Images as Smart Objects checked.
The above behaviour seems to be the same in photoshop cc as past versions of photoshop, at least on the windows versions.

  • CS Camera Raw Dialog Box: default setting for 'Tint'

I have yet another question about Photoshop CS (not CS1,2,3 or 4)  that I cannot find answered in any book or online article that I have consulted. Because CS will not handle Camera Raw files from my camera (Nikon D50), what I do is to use an Adobe DNG converter to convert them to .dng format and then open them in Photoshop CS. When the Camera Raw dialog box opens, all the variables under the 'Adjust' tab are set to standard default values (e.g. 0 for Exposure, +5 for Shadows, +25 for Contrast, etc.) — except Tint. Tint very mysteriously varies from image to image, even though they all come from the same camera with the same menu settings and the same memory card and even if I have not previously done any adjusting of those images. For any given image, the Tint value stays the same if I change Settings between Camera Default and Selected Image. But it will be different when I open another image from the same series.
What I should like to know is, firstly, what it is about a given Camera Raw file that 'tells' Photoshop what value to set Tint to; and, secondly, what the default value should be. Thanks in advance for any information.

  • Can't find the Camera Raw Dialog Box

So, I go to one of those great photoshop seminars by Scott Kelby. I've been using elements for a few years. Decided it was most definitely time to upgrade to PS CS4.
I got it today. I'm pumped. I'm also a bit confused. I am trying to find the camera raw dialog box spoken of in literature and help files. I have a cannon XTi and recently shot some stuff in raw, confirmed the extension of .cr2. I've opened it using bridge and tried various other ways to get the camera raw plug in to activate.
Best I can tell, it is either fully invisible, I'm a noob, or it isn't displaying something or otherwise working. I read in the help files about "click on the basic tab in the camera raw dialog box,"  and so many other things I'm supposed to be doing in the camera raw dialog box.
Where in the world is this box? How do I know it is the camera raw dialog box? Is it labeled that? I've spent all evening going through help files, reading materials, and have already learned a lot about PS CS4. But now I'm lost. The world is dark and grey and my life has no meaning. Well, that is what my 15 year old is telling me right now because I took her cell phone away. Enough drama, sry   life with teenagers, Lord help me!
Seriously, where do find the camera raw dialog box? How do I know a raw file, the canon cr2 format has successfully opened in raw? I only see .psd extensions and nothing looks different to me on the screen from opening a .jpg to opening a .cr2.
    Advise is appreciated.
    Robert

First of all make sure everything is updated: Photoshop to 11.0.1 and Camera raw to 5.6.
    See: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Then, if you double-click on a .CR2 file you should get the choice to open. Choose PS CS4.
The file will then open inside PS with the Camera Raw dialog.
Normally, if you are previewing in Bridge (which is the usual way) Cmd+R or a right-click on a CR2 file will open the ACR dialog.

  • Camera RAW dialog box

I'm a novice user of PE4 (Mac version). I've taken some photos with a Nikon D80 in the RAW format for the first time. I've got the Nikon NEF LE Plugin installed and the RAW images display without problems in the PE image window. But there is no accompanying Camera RAW dialog box on screen, just the usual controls. Can anyone advise on how I get this dialog box to appear please?

You will need to download the Adobe camera raw plug-in, since the one that came with PE 4 is too old for the D80. Try version 3.7 (I forget which number added support for the D80). There are two later versions, 4.0 and 4.1, but they require a patch for the mac version of PE 4 and Adobe can't be bothered to actually release the patch.
Download for the raw plug-in is here:

When is camera raw going to support the Nikon D810? I have downloaded the beta version and I can open in camera raw but it not open in PS.

We have just released the final versions of ACR 8.6 and also Lightroom 5.6 tonight. You can now open all your NEF files from Nikon D810 in both applications.

There is no such forum.  The Forum Lounge is for social interaction or for meaningless chatter.  The Forum Comments forum is to make comments on how the forums operate or ask questions about that.  Perhaps you mean the Photoshop General Discussion forum or the Photoshop Beginners forum?
In any event, unless you provide full details no one is likely to be able to reply to your questions.

  • Camera Raw 4_3_1,  images not opening

After a photo shoot yesterday our photographer suggested I download Camera Raw_4_3_1 so we could load his camera settings when adjusting the files in raw format. I tried doing that today and when I opened Bridge CS3/Browse, the Camera Raw optionis no longer available. Instead there's something called " Test in Device Central".
When I double-click any file to open, it says the file type is not recognized by PS.
    Can anyone help?

    CS3

I have CS3 and down loaded Camera Raw.plugin ( Camera Raw 4.6). I still cannot open in CS3. It says that photoshop doesnt not recognize the file type. I read the instructions on the adobe site (see below), but I do not have the folder Plug-ins. (see red txt below). What I am doing wrong, or what do i need to have to open Camera Raw? Thanks.
To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3:
Automated installation on Mac or Windows®:
    1. Select "Updates..." from the Help menu
    2. Follow the on-screen dialogs to download and install the latest available Camera Raw update
    Manual installation on Mac:
    1. Exit Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge.
    2. Open the Finder.
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home folder).
    4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats
    5. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
    7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.

  • Weird (old) camera raw dialogue box when opening .RAW files

    Hi guys,
I am getting a strange dialogue box (attached image) when I open my RAW files.
These RAW files are produced by a Fuji SP-3000 scanner.
If I scan one negative, two files are produced — a RAW file and a .LI file (image also attached).
When I punch in some pixels into the dialogue box, the image then opens and is just a blurred mess of pixels (actually, the patterns are kinda cool) but they're not the image I'm after.
I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this dialogue box and possibly how to solve it and get an actual image.
One of the main problems I think I have is that I don't actually know the pixel dimensions of the image to begin with, so I am stabbing in the dark when I punch in pixel values.
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!

    See here, for instance:
    Photoshop Raw format
    Photoshop Raw format
The Photoshop Raw format is a flexible file format for transferring images between applications and computer platforms. This format supports CMYK, RGB, and grayscale images with alpha channels, and multichannel and Lab images without alpha channels. Documents saved in the Photoshop Raw format can be of any pixel or file size, but they cannot contain layers.
The Photoshop Raw format consists of a stream of bytes describing the color information in the image. Each pixel is described in binary format, with 0 representing black and 255 white (for images with 16‑bit channels, the white value is 65535). Photoshop designates the number of channels needed to describe the image, plus any additional channels in the image. You can specify the file extension (Windows), file type (Mac OS), file creator (Mac OS), and header information.
In Mac OS, the file type is generally a four-character ID that identifies the file—for example, TEXT identifies the file as an ASCII text file. The file creator is also generally a four-character ID. Most Mac OS applications have a unique file creator ID that is registered with the Apple Computer Developer Services group.
The Header parameter specifies how many bytes of information appear in the file before actual image information begins. This value determines the number of zeroes inserted at the beginning of the file as placeholders. By default, there is no header (header size = 0). You can enter a header when you open the file in Raw format. You can also save the file without a header and then use a file-editing program, such as HEdit (Windows) or Norton Utilities® (Mac OS), to replace the zeroes with header information.
You can save the image in an interleaved or non-interleaved format. If you choose interleaved, the color values (red, green, and blue, for example) are stored sequentially. Your choice depends on requirements of the application that will open the file.
Note:  A Photoshop Raw image is not in the same file format as a camera raw image file from a digital camera. A camera raw image file is in a camera-specific proprietary format that is essentially a “digital negative,” with no filtering, white balance adjustments, or other in-camera processing.

  • Save Dialog Box not Opening

I have  SQL 2012 running on a Windows server 2012.   I just loaded the Visual Studio Business Intelligence Studo 2012 that I downloaded from Microsoft.  My problem is that when I click "Save Copy of package.dtsx
As..." , instead of getting the "Save Copy of Package dialog box"  , I get the regular generic windows Save Copy of box for saving to a directory file.
Is there some sort of configuration I need to do to have  Save Copy of Package dialog box popup?

    Hi jd51057,
When we click “Save Copy of <package file> As” on the File menu in Project Deployment Model, we can only save the package on the disk.
Please note that the procedures in the
article is about Package Deployment Model. So if we want to open the Save Copy of Package dialog box, we should change the Model first, then refer the steps in the article.
To convert the Model from Project Deployment Model to Package Deployment Model, please right-click the project to select “Convert to Package Deployment Model” option in the Solution Explorer. If a package uses features unique to the project deployment model,
such as parameters, then the package cannot be converted. So please avoid use features unique to the project deployment model.

  • Camera Raw File does not open

I use Adobe CS and Nikon D200.
I tried to open the files and it said it was not the right file.
I downloaded and installed the latest plug in for CS and it is still giving me the same error...
    Any ideas?

There is no support for your camera with Photoshop CS and Camera Raw 2.4. There will never be raw support for that camera in Photoshop CS. However, if you have downloaded and correctly installed Camera Raw 2.4, then you can download the current version of the DNG converter. This program will allow you to convert your raw images to DNG (Digital negative) files. And you will be able to open those using Photoshop CS and Camera Raw 2.4.
You should be aware that there have been many enhancements to Camera Raw since version 2.4. Although you will have raw support using the DNG files, you will be missing many capabilities.

  • Raw file converter not opening automatically in Elements 12.

I have upgraded my Elements 9 to Elements 12. I used to be able to open a raw file directly into the raw editor in Elements 9. With Elements 12 I click to open the raw file with Elements 12 but Elements opens into the basic editor with no picture opening. I then have to select Open Camera Raw from the file menu and select the photo again. The photo then opens.
Is there a setting i can change so that elements 12 opens directly into the raw editor?
    Thanks.

There is no so such thing as "Open Camera Raw". Look again; it's Open in Camera Raw, which is for jpegs and tiffs that you want to edit in the raw converter, not a way to open the raw converter itself.
So when you double click a raw file in the finder, what happens? And what camera are these files from?
