Camera raw does not recognize raw files from new camera

Tried downloading and installing Bridge update, to no effect. Working with Macbook Pro, OS X 10.9.4. Adobe Bridge version 4.0.5.11. Camera is Fujifilm X-E2, and is mentioned in the Camera Raw list as a file type Camera Raw should recognize.

You're wrong, reno1950.
That camera was first supported by ACR 8.3, which needs at least Photoshop CS6 to run.
Since you say you're on Bridge 4.0.5.11, you must be on Photoshop CS5.
You have two choices:  either upgrade to CS6 for $200, or look for, download, install and run the Adobe DNG Converter version 8.6 on the folder(s) containing the raw files from your Fuji camera to raw DNGs that you can then open in your version of Adobe Camera Raw.
Note that neither Bridge nor Photoshop can open raw files nor raw DNGs, only Adobe Camera Raw can.

  • Mac does not recognize CR2 files from Canon T2i

First, I am posting in this forum because I need help for a problem that I think only experienced photographers could answer, even though I don't use Aprerture (or iPhoto).
I borrowed a friend's EOS-1D Mark II and shot using the camera raw format. My Mac could see the files and even open them in Preview. I am using PShop CS3 on a Mac running 10.5. Because of this, I have to use Adobe DNG converter so I could open them in Photoshop. I cannot afford to upgrade either the OS or Photoshop right now.
I decided to start shooting in the raw format with my EOS Rebel T2i. I formatted an SD card and changed the camera's settings to shoot RAW. When I moved the files to my Mac to open them, instead of thumbnail previews, I saw 'exec' icons, even though the file extension says .CR2. I tried to convert them with DNG Converter, and it said there were no recognizable files to convert. I changed the setting in the camera to save the file as both a RAW and jpeg file. The CR2 file was still not recognized, but the jpeg is.
I thought installing "RAW Camera Update 2.7" from Apple's website would solve the problem. (Currently, "RAW Camera Update 2.1.2" is in my Library.) The problem is that ver. 2.7 requires either Aperture or iPhoto 9, or my Mac won't install it. I don't think the issue is with the 3rd party software, because the Mac 'sees' the image files taken with the Mark II, but not the T2i.
    I am stumped.

I solved my problem through dumb luck, but maybe it will help other people who are still using CS3:
I had used the version of Adobe DNG Converter for the CR2 files from the Mark II: version 5.4 for CS3. On a whim, I decided to try downloading version 6.2 for CS5. It is a stand-alone app, and if it didn't work, I could just uninstall it. or it simply wouldn't install.
    A funny thing happened:
I ran the installer successfully, but when I checked my applications folder, it said I still had version 5.4, and a search for version 6.2 only showed the dmg. Huh. So I dropped a CR2 file on the icon of the version I still had, and it converted! Yay!
The CR2 files still have the 'exec' icons, of course, but once the file is converted to dng, the thumbnails are there.
Canon said it was up to software developers to make things compatible, and apparently the only difference between the RAW file for the Mark II and the T2i, for instance, is a tag buried deep in the file that IDs the camera it came from. I could have used the software that came with the camera, but it converts the CR2 straight into a jpeg, and I want to open it and make adjustments with Photoshop's RAW/DNG editor before opening it in PShop proper, to preserve the most information I can. I am mentioning this only because Canon's suggestion was to use their camera's software, so that is an option, but imo, it defeats the purpose of using RAW to begin with.

Lightroom says that I have the latest version, but Lightroom does not recognize RAW captures from my new Panasonic DMC-GH4. When will an update for this camera be available?

The GH4 must be very new as it’s not listed in Adobe’s supported cameras, so wait until the next version of LR.  Usually there is one every 3-4 months with a release-candidate available at Adobe Labs before that:  http://labs.adobe.com/

  • I transferred CS5 to a new computer using PC transfer program. CS5 started up on the new computer OK, but now does not recognize raw files. Should I uninstall and reinstall again?

I transferred CS5 to a new computer using PC mover ultimate. CS5 appeared to start up normally, I had to insert the serial number from my original CD. However, now the program does not recognize CR files and Adobe bridge is not working properly.  I get messages that CS5 needs to be updated, but the updates fail. What should I do? Should I uninstall CS5 on the new computer, uninstall CS5 on the old computer using the original CD, and then reinstall CS5 using the CD on the new computer?

Transferring programs does not work well with Adobe applications.  You should install them.
As far as having the program on different machines goes, you are allowed to have two activated installations so if it is working on the original machine there is no reason to remove it unless you need the space.

Thanks for the quick reply, CP
FYI, the file is a photographic panorama based on several .CR2 photos taken in July, 2012 and processed in CS5's camera RAW/Photoshop.  Beyond the metadata, here are no fonts or text in the file.
    1.  I changed Maximize ...File Capability from "Never" to "Always" and the flattened file saved and loaded OK, though I can't figure why given Adobe's description of this option. "If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file...".  The file saved in this manner is ~8% larger and is not my preference as a routine since I've TB's of photo files.  By the way, out of thousands of .psd/.psb files, the one being discussed is the first to give me the error.
    2.  I've tried saving/reloading the file on another computer with Win XP Sp3/CS5...again with Maximize Capability OFF.  Same problem.  Turn ON Maximize Capability and it works.  As with the Win 8 machine, Bridge could neither create a thumbnail or read Metadata.
    3.  I've purged the Bridge Cache, made sure there were no old PS page files, reset PS preferences, and disabled my 2 plugins with no change in the problem.  Windows and Adobe progs are all updated.  Saving to a different HDD has no effect.
The problem occurs on 2 computers (Win XP/Win 8), two versioins of Photoshop (CS5/CS6), and "Maximize" On/Off togles the problem.  My guess it is a bug in PSD processing routines.
If I can't find a fix, will keep with Maximize ON and deal with the larger files that result...the cost of insurance, I suppose.
    Thanks again

  • Organizer (PSE 8) does not recognize DNG files

I recently upgraded to Elements 8 for Windows.  Although I can load DNG files in to Editor, work with them and save them, the Organizer says it does not recognize this file type and will not load DNG files.  In Windows Explorer, I had to associate my DNG files (I use XP) as being an Adobe Elements file so the install program clearly dropped the ball.  Did not have this problem with Elements 7.  Organizer recognizes my Camera RAW files just fine.

I am able to get DNG files in PSE Organizer 8.0 and didnot see any issue.
Could you restart your system and see if it works!

  • Preview in OSX 10.7.5 does not recognize RAW files from Canon EOS 6D

What must I do so that I can see downloaded RAW photos from my new Canon 6D in "Preview" in my iMac's OSX 10.7.5?  Preview does show photos from my earlier Canons fine.  My older version of Aperture can open the 6D's files, as can, of course, Photoshop.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that Preview does not support RAW - only Aperture, a newer iPhoto version, and third party software will handle it. Does your Canon come with the Digital Photo Professional software from Canon? That should be compatible with RAW as well.
Mountain Lion appears to have more compatibilities:

How to tell what version of Camera Raw is installed when Elements does not recognize the Canon raw extension? I have updated within the last five minutes.

to see what version of Camera Raw is installed, you can go to:
Help >> About Plug in >> Camera Raw
    See this picture:
You can also try to update your version if it isn't version 8.5
There is also a possibility to use DNG converter to load any raw files from any cameras but see if this answers your question.

  • Offline File | Zero KB CRW's | "Photoshop does not recognize this file"

The first symptom was when I got the dialogue "The file named "CRW_0004.CRW" is offline or missing. I located the file using spotlight only to get a "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." when trying to open it in photoshop. Upon closer inspection I found that the CRW file was 0KB. I searched for 0 KB CRW & CR2 files to find thousands of files. Heart sinks.
I recently started using lightroom to import and organize all my files. Now it seems something has gone gravely wrong. Any ideas?
    Intel iMac 2core
    OSX 10.5.7
    LR 2.4
    Camera Raw 5.4

…and just before I ran the utility I did an export and got a warning that 18 files were offline or missing and 1.file doesn't exist. But once I tried to Right Click>> show in finder and went through the relocate dialogue LR immediatly found the file. Reattempt to export files from "Photos that failed to export" folder went flalessly.
