Camera Raw Files won't open into Photoshop CC

I'm having intermittent problems with Camera Raw and/or Photoshop CC.  Here's my flow...
1.  Open Adobe Bridge and double click on the NEF file I want.
2.  File opens into Camera Raw
3.  I make adjustments
4.  I click on Open Object (whether or not smart object is checked in preferences)
5.  Nothing happens...it just goes back to the thumbnail in Adobe Bridge
My Camera Raw preferences are set:  "Automatically open JPEGs with settings"
Camera Raw Version 8.2.0.94
Adobe Bridge Version 5.0.2.4
Photoshop CC Version 14.1.2 x64
Nikon D7100
Does anybody know how to rectify this?  I'd appreciate the help!  I'm sure it's probably something simple I'm overlooking, but sometimes it seems to work...that's what makes me wonder.

Yes, absolutely all of the quality and dynamic range is retained in the DNG, because it is still raw data.
Outside of upgrading to Photoshop CS5, which can open your files directly with Camera Raw 6.4.1, your only choice is the extra step of converting the .CR2 files to .DNG with the free DNG converter.
While you'll get all the quality your Camera Raw 5.x converter can deliver, you should keep in mind the Camera Raw 6.x converter has an entirely new, additional "2010 process" for converting raw images, which (depending on your settings) can actually deliver a higher quality conversion than the one you're getting with Photoshop CS4.  I think it's worth the cost of the Photoshop upgrade, personally.

  • Canon CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop CS4

I'm using a Canon EOS 600D (aka EOS Kiss X5), Photoshop CS4 (ver 11.0.1) with Camera Raw 5.7.0.213.
CR2 Raw files won't open in Photoshop, though the thumbnails are clearly visible and open in Windows Explorer.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Where can I find the plugin to open camera raw files for Nikon D810 for Photoshop CS5.1? I've looked around the site but cannot get this to work.. Thank you.

Where can I find the plugin to open camera raw files for Nikon D810 for Photoshop CS5.1? I've looked around the site but cannot get this to work.. Thank you.

See for yourself which version of ACR is needed for that camera’s RAW files
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
then check your version (Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw).
Your version of Photoshop does not support that version of ACR.
You could use the free DNG Converter.

You're welcome!  It's usually CS5 and below that has the ACR update problems.
What counts is that you are back in business.

  • Edited Raw Files Won't Open In CS4

I run Lightroom v 3.3 and now that I have sorted out a CS$ problem I am unable to open an edited nikon raw file in CS$ via the option Photo/edit in/CS4. I get this message 'Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected files at volume/........ for editing. It will not be opened.
So whilst I used to be able to open seamlessly and edit raw images in CS4 after doing work in LR3.3 I cannot now do so. Is it an issue with Lightroom (I suspect it is) or a setting in my camera D3s?
Just prior to this I could not open these same files in CS4 without a serious degradation in the colour but corrected that by unchecking 'compensate for scene-referred profiles' in colour management in CS4.
I am Mac with latest snow leopard OS.
    Can anyone advise, please?

Sorry You can actually upgrade to Camera Raw 5.6
Delete the existing Camera Raw 8bi file from the File Formats Folder before starting
    Click and download the plug-in
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see the plug-in file you need. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 6\File Formats\
Note: Before you start the download you need to do some preparation. Navigate to the File Formats File on the Laptop and move Camera Raw.8bi I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents or drag it to the desktop before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
If your laptop is running a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.

  • D800 RAW files will not open in Photoshop CS6

I have just installed the CS6 upgrade to Photoshop CS4 Extended, but now the software will not read the RAW files from my D800.
I have followed Adobe's instructions to check that I have the correct RAW plug-in (7.0.0.308) which I have.  I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled the software without success.  I do not want to convert my RAW files into DNG files, so I have ignored that step.
The 'Open in Photoshop' instruction in Lightroom 4 does not open my D800 RAW files either, although the files can be opened in Lightroom 4 OK.
Any idea what the problem is?

Brilliant!  ACR 7.1 Beta allows D800 RAW files to be opened within CS6 and it also allows Photoshop 4 to open D800 RAW files in Photoshop CS6.
It says that the Beta version will expire on 30/6/2012 after which it will keep advising on a daily basis although it will still work.  Any idea, what happens next?   Does Adobe issue a proper ACR 7.1 and distribute it as part of the update service?

  • Raw files won't open

long story short i updated my camera body since originally purchasing cs6 and now i can't open files in photoshop or camera raw. nor will they open or be viewed in bridge

i updated my camera body since originally purchasing cs6 and now i can't open files in photoshop or camera raw
That is because your camera is newer then your latest ACR plug in hence Curt asked for more details about dSLR and exact versions of CS6 and ACR plug in.

  • How do I get all TIF files to automatically open into Photoshop?

When I use Internet Explorer, I can set my computer so that all TIF files on a manuscript-editing website automatically open into Photoshop. This doesn't work with Mozilla, and I am always asked to select a program to open the file. Can I use Firefox, and still get all files with a TIF extension to open into Photoshop when I click on them? Thanks!

To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

  • •Canon EOS 5D Mark II Raw Files Won't Open?

I use PE 11 and normally shoot with Nikon cameras.  I recently used a friend's Canon #EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon Raw files will not open.  I found a Camera Raw plug-in (5.2) that addresses this but am concerned this plug-in will override the camera raw plug-in already installed to read my Nikon files.  Is this a valid concern?

Thanks for your response.  What I think the problem was had to do with a couple of corrupted files.  The jpg versions displayed correctly but the raw files did nothing when they were selected.  I deleted 4 files that would not display and then randomly selected another which did.  All the remainder of 46 files display in PE.  I might have a bad CF card on my hands even though it is new.  I’ll send it to Lexar for examination.
Good to know the question forum works.  Thanks.

  • Sharpening applied in Camera Raw not showing when opened in Photoshop - CS5

Has anyone come across this problem. I have a bunch of files I have processed in camera raw, but when I open them the sharpening is not applied. This wasn't happening yesterday. Is there a bug? Am I missing something?

There is a camera raw preference whether to apply sharpening to the on-screen view only, or also to the exported files.
You probably inadvertently set it to screen-only and now after resetting, the default is both.

  • CR2 Files Won't Open In Photoshop CS5 - Camera RAW Updates Won't Install...

I've had to take some photo editing work home from the office and I need to open some CR2 (RAW) files on Photoshop CS5. When I drag the files into the program I get a notice that my Camera RAW does not support the files.
I've tried downloading updates for Camera RAW, all the way back to 6.3 (I'm currently using 6.0), but when I go to install I keep getting the message "Some Updates Failed to Install" "Update is Not Applicapable".
The photos were shot on a Canon 5D Mark II, not that it should make much of a difference. I'm wondering what's going wrong? I'm running OS 10.5.8 at home and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

If you have CS2 the latest version should be ACR 3.7.
ACR 4.x is only for CS3. If you download the 3.7 ACR and install it correctly ( be sure to follow the instructions precisely!) you should be OK.

  • .CR2 files won't open in Photoshop CS4

I recently got CS4 Extended version of Photoshop and need to work on my RAW files, but they won't open. I can see the thumbnails in Bridge and when I try to open them Photoshop says they're "not the right type of document"...so...not sure what to do. I've done a ton of research and cannot figure out why these files are unable to open. I need help!

I've had the same problem recently and worked on the solution this morning.  I havn't read the full info stream here, but can tell you what finally worked for me today.
I also have CS4, and recently bought a Canon 7D.  My .CR2 files would not open, due to proprietay issues with the new camera.
I first had to buy a download of WinZip, since I wasn't able to open any download from Adobe.  The WinZip was about $30.  Next, I went back to Adobe/downloads/updates and used Find Product Updates menu.  I found the compatable update of RAW plug in was 5.7 for our CS4 version.  I clicked the link to this download, and began the process by clicking Save.  I then went to the Download folder and found the file from Adobe in the WinZip folder.  At this point I went back to the Adobe download site and printed out the download instructions concerning where to find the old plug in, what to do with it, and how to install the newer downloaded plug in.
After all this, I opened CS4, Bridge, located my first .CR2 file, and it worked just fine.  I was also able to convert these .CR2 files, once opened, to DNG files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Canon 6D Raw Files won't open in PSE10

Can't open raw images in PSE 10 from EOS_Digital. I'm using a Mac, Mavericks operating system, which is up to date. Have got a new camera, Canon 6D.  No problem previously with Canon 60 D.  I've downloaded LR5 but rather confused with it, so went back to my original way of editing via EOS Digital and PSE 10 which would always open up the raw files before but now won't?

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
The Canon 60D requires Camera Raw 6.2 which is compatible with Elements 10 and later. So you can open 60D Raw files in Elements 10.
The Canon 6D requires Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with Elements 11 and later. So you'll never be able to open 6D Raw files in Elements 10..
You must either a) upgrade to the latest version Elements 12.
Or b) first convert all your 6D Raw files to DNGs using the free Adobe DNG converter. That adds an extra step to your workflow. Then you can open and edit the DNGs in Elements 10.

  • Canon Raw files won't open

I cannot view raw files from my Canon 1000d camera. It shows a preview during transfer, yet when trying to open them in iphoto9 the raw file remains black. JEPG's work fine. Furthermore, I cannot open the raw files in Photoshop CS4, I get error message CS4 does not recognise the file type. I have downloaded compatibility download 3.3 from your support page and 5.2 from Adobe, with no effect. My old camera 400D worked fine with no issues. Help.

Ok, I found a page on how to reinstall the drivers, but it didn't help.
After some experimentation, I discovered that the problem is not with RAW files but RAW+JPEG files from my Canon EOS Rebel XL/1000D. The camera is listed on the supported cameras page at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475. And I have read other posters saying they have imported RAW+JPEG files into iPhoto without problems.
I imported a RAW-only photo and it worked correctly, showing the thumbnail during import and in the library, and then opening properly. But RAW+JPEG photos show a black thumbnail during import and in the library, and then open as black rectangles. Also, the black rectangles labeled as the RAW files are the same exact size as their corresponding JPEGs (~3MB), whereas the RAW-only file is 10MB.
This means my RAW data was never actually imported and would have been lost forever if I had actually erased the old photos from my SD card. We're talking about photos of my daughter's birth!
I'm going to try opening the SD card on a PC to import the data and see if I can extract the RAW stuff then transfer it to my iMac. This is sad.

  • New Camera Raw 4.3 wont open in photoshop

when photos are open from bridge, into raw and I click open image, camera raw disappears to show bridge (which was already open) and does nothing. If I click a thumnail I can choose open in cs3 and that works but it opens in camera raw again , THEN I can choose open and it opens is PS3, but as a PSD, not a JPEG. this all happens after I upgraded everything. quite frustrating.

Ok purged cache and that didnt help. I am trying to open as 8 bit.
I am using the new upgrade CR 4.3, as well as new PS3 10.01 and Bridge 2.1.1.9.
I had some install problems to begin with and had to uninstall and reinstall. Then the upgrade to 10.0.1 put two executables in my adobe file giving me an error message when I tried to open a jpeg cause its file association was opening 10.0 and giving me an error message. I finally had to remove the 10.0 excutable (which was named Photoshop CS3) and then rename the new execuatable which was being called only Photoshop, to Photoshop CS3 to get it to work but it still is buggy.
What happens is, from Bridge if I open in raw 4.3 and I like what I see and want to work on it in CS3, I cannot open it directly into CS3. If I choose open object or open image, Raw disappears and I see only Bridge, it will not open CS3 and place the file there. Now, if I ALREADY have CS3 open in the background and I choose open, it opens in Raw from Bridge, again OVER CS3 which it also opens, then I can hit open object or open image from THAT raw dialoge box and it opens in CS3. It didnt do this before yesterday. Of course I dont want to have both programs running and eating space and I want the file to open directly into CS3 if I ask it to open from Bridge, just as its always done before.
    Any suggestions really appreciated.
    Andy
