Camera Raw in Bridge CS 4 Problem

Hi!
Recently I downloaded the Photoshop CS 4 trial version but I can't make Camera Raw work inside Bridge. Whenever I try to open ACR in Bridge, the app crashes. The same thing happens when I try to access the Camera Raw settings inside Bridge. Opening rawfiles within Photoshop works fine though.
I'm sitting on an iMac intel C2D with 10.5.5. Earlier I had CS 3 installed but before installing CS 4 I did a complete clean up with adobes clean up script.
This is really annoying and I haven't been able to find a solution. What can I do?
Best regards
/Felix

Thanks Ann but that was not what I meant to ask, I now see that I was not very clear in this question and also not very clear in reading the original post :-)
I was asking this question to the OP to check wether he was able to open it in PS instead of Bridge, because I thought he could not work with ACR at all. It seems I was a little to busy with other things because he states in his first post that he can open the Raw files in PS itself and I assume he means ACR with that.
If so there is not much reason in checking the ACR version or wondering if there is only one Camera Raw installed if he can actually use ACR via PS itself. I was just trying to rule some options out :-)
Felix, just to be sure:
-You have Bridge CS4 installed in the default application folder at your Mac and not in an other location?
-In the root library (not user!) you have in the path: Macintosh HD/Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/Plug-Ins-CS4/FileFormats: CameraRaw.plugin (version:5.1)?
-You have refreshed preferences already as per Ramón (also no Opera Web browser)
-In the preferences for Bridge in the start up scripts section both Bridge CS4 and PSCS4 are activated?
- To repeat Ann, have you tried it already in a new user account to check if the problem is only in your current user or in your system?
Will you be so kind and report back for al these questions?
Thanks

  • Can only open some JPEG files in Camera Raw through Bridge CS3

I'm running Bridge CS3 version 2.0.0.975. I always edit my JPEG files through Camera Raw in Bridge CS3. I only have to Right-Click on the file and select "Open in Camera Raw...". However, I've come into a situation where some jpg files will not open this way; the option is not even there.
I have made sure to tick the box in preferences under Behavior "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge", and also tick the box under Thumbnails -> Performance and File Handling "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF Files.
These files were originally 16bit Grayscale TIFF files, but I changed them to RGB 8bit JPEG files.
Also, I know the program works because I navigate to an older photo I worked which is a JPEG and the "Open in Camera Raw..." option is there when I Right-Click, but then I navigate back to the image I want to edit, and the option is not there.
Here are links to my screenshots of what I'm talking about. Both images in the last two screenshots are JPEG:

When I open Photoshop CS3, then go File -> Open As and change the Format Type to "Camera Raw", the JPEG files vanish and I can only see the TIF files. When I open them, it doesn't open in Camera Raw, but rather opens like a normal file would.
That's a fundamental problem right there, and a clue in all this.  You should be able to see JPEGs in the Open As Camera Raw dialog.
What happens if you type in the name?
I'm almost convinced you have a file named .jpg but with a different image format inside.  Can you put one of these files online for others to try to open?

  • Cannot open some jpgs in Camera Raw from Bridge

A couple of days ago, I rated select images from a set as 5 stars, and now I cannot open these in Camera Raw from Bridge. I get no error messages or anything, there is just simply no option to Open in Camera Raw from the File menu, or the right-click menu. The images I did not rate still open in Camera Raw, and not all of the starred ones have this problem - just 20 or so consecutive images. This makes no sense to me, as all the images as far as I can tell should operate the same way. They are all jpgs. I can find workarounds to this like working in Photoshop (all the images still open in Photoshop) or possibly just reloading the photos from the memory card, but I'd like to know why this would even be a problem to avoid it in the future. I'm using CC on Win 8.

I should add that JPGs edited with ACR usually need to be writable for ACR to be able to store the adjustment-settings inside themselves.  RAW files typically use an XMP sidecar to store settings, but JPGs typically don't.
If the files weren't read/write then ACR would have no way to store the adjustments in them and so is smart enough to not make them available for editing.
The other hint is that if you copy the files to your desktop--where the permissions are likely to be more friendly, they work.
To check the permissions, right-click on one of the files in Explorer, select Properties from the context menu and look at the Security tab.  Look at the various user-groups, like Users, Authenticated Users, Administrators, etc, and see what access each has to one oft he problem files, and then to one of the files that works ok.
You might also check the Effective Rights of a particular user to a particular file by clicking on the Advanced button in the Security tab.  Here is an example where I show only Read + Read & Execute access to an NEF for general users, but when I check my own logged in User (steve) I have Full Control which includes all the other access privileges, and this is either because I'm in the Administrators group or I am the owner, I'm not sure.  It is possible that Bridge or Photoshop is running in a user context other than your logged in user, or it's possible that another user accessed the files and changed the permissions to them.

  • Camera Raw (via Bridge) starts to malfunction. Help!

    Windows XP Media Centre.
    PS CS3.
This is not the first time this has happened to me.
I am editing and saving images in Camera Raw via Bridge and suddenly, I cannot activate the Save Image command. The entire Camera Raw window just greys out and/or the Taskbar pops up in front of the Save Image button.
It's as if the Taskbar is invisibly blocking the Save Image button and appears when I try to use it.
Previously, I've had to use Control/Alt/Delete to close Camera Raw (the Cancel and Done buttons don't work either.
Another weird thing.....if I click on the Heal Tool, it will only appear on the image *above* the highest previous healing mark. If I drag the + tool symbol in amongst previous heal marks, it reverts to the mouse cursor! Bizzare!
    Anyone else had this problem?
    Any ideas?

    Sorted.
Though I didn't touch it, the Toggle to Full Screen Mode had been activated.
This, for some reason, prevents the bottom half of the Camera Screen from working.

  • Why did my camera raw in bridge stop working?

Today when I tried to open camera raw in bridge I got this message instead:

I am completely stumped by this. I have no clue how to fix  it. And when I try to open Camera Raw Preferences the same message pops up. It doesnt matter if the image is a jpg, dng,or RAW file the same image pops up.
Any suggestions on how to fix it?

This is a copy of the answer I send in via mail, it seems the new forum format is again a disaster and not able to put mail content in the forum but only a reply window without text...

  • Why the colors look so different betweet my Camera Raw and Bridge?

We know that after editing images in Camera Raw, thumbnails in Bridge will updated according to the new xmp files.
However, for some of my Raw files, the colors look very different in Bridge after makeing adjustments in Camera Raw, I can see more red in those phoots. But when I reopen the file in Camera Raw, all the colors are just correct.
For those photos without applying xmp files the colors looks exactly the same in Camera Raw and Bridge.
Does this means that my Camera Raw and Bridge use different color space? How can I fix this problem? Thank you

If you want help, you need to specify your platform (Mac or Windows), the exact versions of your Operating System, Photoshop, ACR plug-in and Bridge.
Also look at your Bridge preferences and tell us what you have your Thumbnail preferences set to.
Re-setting your preferences and purging the cache would also help.  It could be something as simple as a corrupt cache.
Bridge is Color Managed, but it does not use a color space of its own.  It applies the color space with which each image is tagged, it assigns sRGB to untagged files.
When was the last time you calibrated and profiled your monitor?
    Details would help.

How to open Camera Raw in Bridge, it comes up with the following error Bridge parent application is not Active   Bridge requires that a qualifing product has been lanched at least once to enable this feature.  It opens in Photoshop CS6 & Elements 10 but not Bridge?

You need to look at all programs in your uninstall list, and see if you spot any old trials that are no longer active.
Camera Raw in Bridge and PS are the same program, so its not the program but access.  Would have been nice it you had stated OS, but here are locatons of camera raw for both OS.

  • Photoshop to Camera Raw in Bridge

I am TRYING to work with Iphoto, Photoshop CS5 and Camera Raw in Bridge.  I have set Photoshop CS5 as my external editor in Iphoto.  I double click on photo (jpg) and it opens in Photoshop.  I need to take the photo (jpg) from Photoshop to Camera Raw in the Bridge.  How do I do this?  OR is there a way to go directly from Iphoto to Camera Raw in the Bridge?  If by some miracle I can find my photo when in Bridge (iphoto makes finding a photo VERY difficult) when I make changes in Camera Raw they do NOT register in Iphoto.  Without all the detail, I want my edited photos (camera raw/photoshop) to show up EDITED in iPhoto.  Help!

iPhoto is cr@p.  At the very least, you have to admit that it doesn't play nice with any other graphics application.  Dump it.
Now, Bridge is a 32-bit application, so when you have Bridge host Camera Raw, Camera Raw also runs in 32 bits.  In contrast, and even though it is the very same plug-in, Camera Raw runs in 64 bits when hosted by Photoshop.
To find your actual image(s) in the Finder, which the crappy iPhoto hides in libraries, you need to highlight said library in the Finder and Control-click (or Right-click) on the icon, then select Show Package Contents in the contextual menu.  Then navigate in the Contents of that package until you find your original and drag it out of there to a sensible place where Bridge can see it.
    Again, dump iPhoto.  My ¢2.

  • How do I open my TIF file into Camera Raw from Bridge?

Trying to follow a tutorial on editing an HDR image in photoshop. When instructed to open the TIF image into Camera Raw from Bridge, I don't get the option when I right click. What is going on here?

I was talking about an advanced action, which is not loaded externally but executed on runtime (will be translated to AS). So this will only work if you can pass the value of the variable containing the slide number you want to the SWF. For that you'll need JavaScript and I'm not that acquainted with JS. Have a look at Jim Leichliter's blog:
    http://captivatedev.com/series/captivate-javascript-series/
In Captivate you create an advanced action to be triggered on entering the first slide, that will jump to the wanted slide number. If you can figure out how to pass the slide number, could help with the advanced action, I know them rather well:

  • Opening Camera Raw within Bridge

I just recently installed Photoshop CS3, and within bridge when I try to open up any raw image, it opens it up in camera raw, but within photoshop. I can't find the option that allows me to open camera raw within bridge without having to launch photoshop.
I've tried the help pages and what they've described for me to enable this function can't be found...so weird. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Henry

I would really appreciate anyone figuring this one out. I'd rather not have to reformat my mac AGAIN. I just had to because photoshop cs3 was not installing properly. I am running OSX10.4.10 or somthing like that.
    I have Design Premium CS3.
While in Bridge, there is no option to open in CameraRAw, whether I right click or click on File.
In the Preferences, there is no option to make "double click opens in CameraRaw."
Work flow is seriously hampered by this defect.
I purged my cache, but I don't see how to reset all settings.

Ah this is just because I haven't fully updated my bridge yet, but the solution still works fine

The video shows replacing a current DLL file with one from last year - the key issue being that the files found in the Bridge and Photoshop folders are DIFFERENT. Why would this be?  I checked a PS CS5.1 installation myself and the files are already the same. Is there an illegitimate copy of Photoshop being used or something, causing these files to differ? -Noel
