Camera Raw update has changed things....

I have Canon 40D and I have the DNG converter 4.2, which is recommended for this camera. I also have the Camera Raw plugin version 3.7, which is recommended for CS2. When I would convert an image from to DNG and open it in CS2 as a Camera Raw image, the window would come up and each line under the 'Adjust' tab (starting with exposure) had an individual auto setting that the image was adjusted to. I found this to be very useful because I could just uncheck the bos to see where the original setting was and make much faster adjustments.
Then, a few days ago I get a message that there is an update available and so I run the update and now the settings are different. There is now just the default or auto and when you select auto it changes everything, it is no longer line by line.
Additionally, this update to the Camera Raw is now changed the color of all my photos. When I open the photos in my Canon software they are full of color, but once I convert them to DNG and open them as Camera Raw in CS2 they lose a lot of color. This was not happening prior to this update.
Is this an issue with the DNG converter or an issue with CS2? I have everything Adobe recommends so I don't know why the color would be desaturated so much. The photos look like crap now. This was not an issue before.
I'm wondering if I can go back and take the Camera Raw file I downloaded and replace the updated one. Does anyone recommend this approach? If so, how would I go about this to do it correctly?
Thanks!
Tyler

Actually, I do understand about the DNG converter now. It's an evolving program, I get that.
As for the update, I don't know either. I thought it was weird because I know anything after 3.7 is not for CS2. I had a window pop up and tell me there were updates from adobe and it was all legit. It was connected to Adobe. I had run a 'repair' of CS2 and so maybe that replaced some current files with the ones in the original software, but I don't know. When I go into my Adobe folders the camera raw file is the one it should be.
I have downloaded the 5.3 and I will convert some RAW images and compare them to see if that corrected the issue. For me, I shoot Real Estate photography so correct color is a big deal to these people. The most noticable place I see color loss is in wood, wood cabinets in a kitchen for example. In stead of rich dark wood it lacks color. This doesn't do well when you are tying to capture a $80k kitchen full of custom wood cabinets. I have also taken the exact same shot in jpeg and it comes out perfectly. So, I know it's somewhere between the DNG converter and opening the image in Camera Raw that the color get's lost. I realize that most of the people on here have forgotten more than I know about how this software works. I try to get the shot I want on site and therefore I have not relied on software much over the years. But, I'm trying to learn how to use this stuff and I appreciate your help while I learn it.
Thanks again!
Tyler
I really appreciate your responses!

  • Can't get the Camera Raw update to 8.3

OK, this happens every time there is an update. I see that Adobe has an update for Photoshop CC, but the Creative Clod Desktop application says it is up to date, which it isn't. Have contacted Adobe support many times Twice today, the Chat people cut me off while transferring.
    What I have already done:
Since I have been through this many times, I know the standard drill well.
Log in and out via the desktop app. even go so far as to log out, quit, reboot the computer and log back in. Didn't help.
Delete the AAM & OOBE(?) stuff and do the same thing. Didn't help.
Uninstall and reinstall the Photoshop CC application. Reinstalled the 8.2 version of the plugin.
Uninstall and reinstall the Creative Clod Desktop application. Didn't help.
Contacted Adobe support and got cut off twice.
FWIW, I have a permanent license for Lightroom and got an update notice for it via the old style updater and it worked fine, but now I get a notice when I try to go to Photoshop that I need the Camera Raw 8.3 plugin which Adobe refuses to let me get.
This happens with every update, but the trick that worked the last time never works again. To say I am frustrated would be a massive understatement.

Oldbalddude to determine the exact cause of the installation failure I would recommend reviewing the installation log for Camera RAW update.  Please see Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html for information on how to locate and interpret your installation log file.  Please feel free to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion thread.

  • Camera raw won't open my raw files from bridge.  Mac user, camera, Nikon D800, latest camera raw update is installed.  Help!!

I don't get a photo preview in bridge of my raw files, just the NEF file thing.  Then when I click to open them I get a message that says:  "If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via Help > Updates"   "If the problem persists, visit the following link for more information: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111".  I can't seem to figure out what to do!  Help Please!?

Usually the problem with a newer Nikon camera is that the NEF files have been transferred or viewed with obsolete Nikon software, like Nikon Transfer for View NX, and those change something in the header of the raw file that makes it unrecognizable to Adobe products.
For new images, the solution is to either stop using Nikon products to transfer and view your files or update your Nikon products to be as new as your camera.
There is a utility to fix this particular corruption here:

  • Photoshop 12.0 Camera Raw Updates never download. Any ideas?

Trying to download the Camera Raw update for Photoshop 12.0.  No matter how many times I quit and re-try, the updates download but never complete the installation process.  This is common to all my Adobe products, so I'm guessing it's the updater. In the progress bar I can see the downloads taking place, but at the end of the process the updater gives me the message> " [product name]. There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
No amount of quitting and restarting etc has any impact.
I would prefer not to have to uninstall lightroom etc so I've held off doing that in the hopes there's an easier way.
Is this just me or do others have this problem too?
    Photoshop 12.0
    iMac early 2014 3.4Ghz, 8GB RAM, OS 10.9.5.

I’d suggest posting this sort of issue in the Downloading and Installing forum: https://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup
I’ve seen Adobe support people respond to things in that forum during daylight hours in the US, or you might try just starting a Chat session indicating you’re having issues installing Elements (or maybe Photoshop) by going to adobe.com, clicking on Menu then choosing Learn and Support and jump through the hoops to narrow down what you’re having an issue with, then click Still Need Help and choose Chat.
The Adobe Camera Raw forum is for the PS plug-in and perhaps general raw-decoding questions not specific to a product.
Not for either Lightroom or “Photoshop 12” issues.  By “Photoshop 12” do you mean Photoshop Elements 12 (PSE12) or Photoshop CS5 which is also known as Photoshop 12?

  • Problems with Installing Camera Raw update for PSE 10 from Apple Appstore

Hi.  Need some help, I have just bought Photoshop Elements 10 from Apple App Store directly from MAC.  I realised a few things
    1. That software directly downloads and i could not find any serial number for it
    2. That software does not include Organizer, or how do i access it.  It seems to be not the same as directly downloaded from adobe website
    3. the Camera Raw software 6.5 does not look like full featured, it has a number of missing tabs.  I tried to download the 6.6 Update and 6.5 Camera Raw Update but both could not be installed
Appreciate some help.  Thanks.  [email protected]

  • Camera Raw updates Date Taken in JPG Files

    Hi,
I have CS6/CR 7.2.  I have had this issue where my file dates became changed (8000 odd files) so I had to restore 23000 files from backup .
When investigating trying to find out what happened.  when I open a JPG from Windows Explorer, photoshop is set to use Camera Raw for jpg files on open (ok).  If I cancel the dialog, nothing happens (ok).  If I click Done or Open Image, the file itself has the "Date Taken" time updated - 7 hours ahead of the original correct time.
This pretty much matches the date issue I have on the 8000 files.  Is this expected behaviour?  Why would Camera Raw update Date Taken and did it choose 8 hours because I am in the PST timezone (GMT-8 or currently GMT-7 with daylight savings)?
I have reproduced this on 4 or file random files - taking copies and comparing afterwards.
    Thanks!
    Mark.

Camera Raw writes your JPEG files back out with updated metadata no matter what settings you choose, because Adobe feels they understand the format of metadata in the files well enough to be confident they will not corrupt the files.
I've asked them for years to avoid doing that, to no avail.  I don't want my original files re-written.  It sounds as though you are of a like mind.
It is for this reason that I *never* open a JPEG file through Camera Raw.
It's possible there is a time zone problem or something, but that's not the point.  What, specifically, is corrupted is less important than Adobe believing it's okay to write back to your JPEG files.  That you have actually seen something corrupted is testament to it not being unfounded paranoia.
Generally I'm supportive of Adobe's design decisions, but absolutely not on this issue.  All I ask is that Adobe honor the "keep settings in the central database" preference choice for ALL input files, not just those for which they would otherwise write an XMP file.  I don't think it's too much to ask.
By the way, you might want to visit the Camera Raw-specific forum and make note of your issue there:

  • PSE 11 Activation Fails After Camera Raw Update - 12-14-12

I updated Camera Raw today (12-14-12) through the Adobe Software Updater.  Now when I start PSE 11, I get a message that the software has exceeded its activation limit.
I chatted with "Ankish" who kindly reset the activation.  It worked while I was online with him.  I closed and restarted PSE 11 and there was no activation notice.
After the chat session, I rebooted the computer, and the same problem re-occurred.  Upon startup, PSE 11 pops up a message that the software activation limit has been exceeded.
Let me be clear, I bought the application from Adobe, I have a valid license that was delivered from Adobe via email, the software has only ever been installed once, on this machine.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Here's the chat log:
Ankish: Thank you for confirming, please allow me a moment to search for the information.
Jim: I installed the adobe camera raw update today. Is that the cause of the problem?
Ankish: I have made the necessary changes to the license, now you will be able to activate the product. Please try
to activate the product now while I stay online.
Jim: ok. it activated. do I still have one activation left?
    Ankish: Great! No Jim.
Jim: what was the porblem with the ser #?
    Jim: problem
Ankish: Jim may be you uninstalled the product directly without deactivating it. In that case activation limit is
    consumed.
Jim: no, it was never uninstalled.
Ankish: Have you installed it on more than two devices?
Jim: only on this one computer
Jim: only change was the installation of the camera raw update today by the adobe installer
Ankish: Jim then there may be a technical issue.
    Jim: ?
Your chat transcript will be sent to [email protected] at the end of your chat.
Ankish: Jim may be due to some technical issue, this error occured. But as I am not trained on technical issue. I
will not be able to answer your query.

    Hi,
    Is your problem resolved?
If not, can you please tell if Editor gets launched on your system? If it gets, kindly go to Help> Deactivate. If this option is highlighted.

  • Apple Camera RAW updates without iPhoto or Aperture

I couldn't find a place where this really fits so I am placing it here.
I recently got a Nikon D90 and I take pictures in RAW format. I do all my editing in Adobe products so I have not bought Aperture or upgraded iLife. To be able to view the D90's files in CoverFlow and QuickLook requires the camera raw 2.3 update. However, you cannot install the update without Aperture 2 or the last year's iPhoto. This wouldn't be much of an issue since I don't generally sort my images in the finder, but every time I opened a folder with any raw files in it I would get frequent quick look errors popping up and the Finder would crash.
I fixed it by downloading the Aperture 2 trial so it would allow me to install the update...but it's ridiculous that I should have to have jumped through hoops to get the update installed.
Apple: Remove the iPhoto/Aperture requirement on RAW updates!

Well, my updates install without a problem.
"Camera RAW update" comes from Adobe and has absolutely nothing to do with iPhoto or Aperture.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4364
Apples, "Camera RAW Compatibility update" should install without a problem.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/digitalcameraraw compatibilityupdate25.html
The only time when I had a message "... not required..." was when I attempted to install the update while it was already installed.
Two things to consider would be; one, that the Apple's update doesn't work 100%.
It claims to provide RAW compatibility for Canon 50D, and yet the sRAW 1 and 2 don't show up in quickview or as icon preview (the full size RAWs do) - so maybe there's a similar issue with your camera.
Second, (if indeed iPhoto is needed to be installed - which I doubt, as I don't have it), extract iPhoto from your Leopard disc, install it, install the Compatibility update and then trash iPhoto.

  • How download cs5 Camera raw update and how make Photoshop the default in the Bridge "open" menu?

Two problems  which have defeated me.
First, I have a new Canon  EOS 500D  and need to download the  recent  (July  2010) CS5 Camera Raw update. However both of my computers freeze when I move from the Adobe Support web page to the Download web page.  Is this a known problem? What to do about it? I am using CS 5 on a Windows 2007 XP computer.
Second, (probably related to the first)   opening a file in Photoshop is not listed among  Bridge's  "OPEN AS" options. Also,  the "OPEN"  Default is "PAINT". How do I set Photoshop as the "OPEN"  menu  default?
Thanks for your suggestions. I am truly befuddled by these  issues.
    JackIsaac

Sounds like something is really wrong with your computer, and it isn't clear what, but if you're just having issues getting to the download link for ACR:
Here is the download page for ACR 6.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4728
Here is the download page for the CS5 12.0.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4733
If those links don't work, you can probably find the same updates on the FTP site, although some things here are more than a decade old:
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/
See if Bridge and ACR are any happier after installing these two updates.  Make sure you run them as Administrator.
If those still don't work for you, try another browser, where Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome should all work.
    http://www.microsoft.com/ie
    http://www.firefox.com/
    http://www.google.com/chrome
There are numerous other browsers, as well, but they probably won't work if the above three don't.
Perhaps you either have a virus that you should scan for, or over-zealous internet-protection software that you could try disabling temporarily.
My favorite free virus/malware scanner is from www.MalwareBytes.com
The payfor version will automatically update itself and scan, but the free version works just as well except you have to manually update and scan.

  • I am using Lightroom 4.4,  I recently downloaded the latest Camera Raw update, 8.8.  Will it work with LR 4.4?

I recently downloaded the most recent Camera Raw update, 8.8.  Will it work with LR 4.4?  My current Camera Raw plug-in does not recognize my new Canon 100-400mm lens.

Quote "I have downloaded the most recent DNG converter. I guess I was mistaken in thinking I could use this as a plug-in with LR.  If I understand correctly, I need to convert image files taken with the new lens with the DNG converter and then load them in LR 4 in order to use the Lens Correction feature in LR.  Does that sound correct?"
No, as far as I am aware the only function that the DNG Converter performs is to convert the raw files from a supported digital camera model to a DNG file format.
This will allow you to work with the DNG files in earlier versions of Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw that do not provide support for the particular camera model raw files. It has nothing to do with Lens profiles.

  • Camera raw update 3.2 create issues with panasonic square LX3 raw

    Hi everybody,
since I've installed the last camera raw update(ie 3.2), my square raw from my panasonic LX3 are not recognised anymore by snow leopard, I can't even get a preview on any of my square raw.
As it was working perfectly before this update, is there a way to remove this update?
    Can you reproduce this issue?
    thanks for your attention

I have the Leica D Lux 4 and it does the same thing with my camera using 1:1 aspect ratio. I've since rolled the raw update back to version 3 and all is normal again. If you read this thread, it explains how to roll back the raw update.

  • Camera Raw update for Canon 5D Mark III

Where is the camera raw update for the new Canon 5D Mark III?

It doesn't appear that it is available yet.  You will want to utilize Canon's software for now.  I would recommend continuing to review http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html as it has a list of all supported and soon to be supported cameras with Camera RAW.

  • Camera Raw update 2.2 -- unsupported file formats

As many user have posted here, after installing the latest Raw update from apple aperture and and all other core services became unable to read my Nikon D100 images. The file seemed fine since all other apps not based on core services worked fine. After reading some tips here I downgraded to the 2.1 raw software and everything was fine again. CLEARLY apple, in adding new camera support you introduced some sort of bug/problem. I know this was posted already but it did not seem to be generating much noise so I felt a need to keep the problem not 'under the rug'.

Apple being aware of the problem is one thing, but customers are still being allowed to download and install this buggy version of Camera Raw update 2.2 without any warning of the consequences. The only place you can find any information about the problem is in this discussion and Apple have made no formal help documents available AFAIK. Pretty poor for a Pro App.
It seems that not only are we beta testers for Apple, but also unpaid support staff.
