Camera Raw version needs updating I think.
I'm trying to upgrade Camera Raw to work in Photoshop C5. How do I do this?
First of all, that will depend on the camera. What model are you using? If Lightroom 4 will open the raw files from your camera, then they should be able to go from Lightroom to Photoshop when needed. Have you updated to Lightroom 4.4? That is the last version of Lightroom 4 that was released.
Lightroom 4.4 is compatible with versions of Camera Raw up to version 7.4. So when you try to go from Lightroom to Photoshop you will need to choose the option to render a copy with Lightroom adjustments. Depending on how you have your preferences set, this will create a TIF or PSD file that includes everything you have done in Lightroom and will pass that file to Photoshop where you can finish your work.

Camera Raw 7.3 Update replaced Photoshop CS6 Standard with CS6 Extended Trial version
How do I get back to Photoshop CS6 Standard edition after Camera Raw 7.3 update?
After installing the Camera Raw update photoshop now runs as the Trial version of Photoshop Extended.I upgraded CS6 and Lightroom 4 today and then when restarting Photoshop CS6 this evening I get a dialog about registering with my e-mail for Photoshop Extended Edition Trial.
I have never owned the Extended edition and did the update from my existing product using the Adobe Update manager. There should have been no reason for this mistake to occur.
I've done upgrades like this many, many times before and have never had my system react this way. You clearly have a bug in your update process and should fix it pronto. Do you know how confusing it is to get a dialog like this? Should I let it register me for a product I don't own? Is that going to somehow trash my legitimate license (now there's the process of activation, I'm always concerned that I'll mess things up and end up unable to use Photoshop until support can help me out)
I'll go find my serial number and re-enter it, but I think this is a serious bug - and will make me much more cautious about waiting to apply updates until I've read the forums to make sure it's safe to do so -
I just downloaded and installed Photoshop cc and the Camera Raw version is not the latest one available,so now I can no longer open files from my Nikon D750! Can I update ACR?
I have been using the new version of ACR with PS6 and have been able to open the D750 files, now I'm stuck.
Thanks,
Greg EYou were probably using the Release Candidate version of camera raw 8.7, which one gets from Adobe Labs.

I downloaded the latest camera raw version, 8.2, but my DNG convetor still only reflects 7.1, why won't my DNG convetor update to 8.2?
dng converter and cr are two different programs.
while they both do the same thing, the dng converter is a stand-alone app that does not install into another adobe program and cr installs into another adobe app like photoshop, lightroom etc.
and the latest version (as of 6/25/14) is cr 8.5.
download the dng converter is you have an app that's to old to accept cr 8.2 (or cr 8.5).

How to get the new camera raw 7.2 update?
most of our company computers are offline.
so how do we get the new camera raw 7.2 update?
until now they were always released as manual downloads.... now i have to read this from adobes blog:
Camera Raw 7.2 – Please use the update mechanism in Photoshop CS6
http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/
does that mean there will be no manual update anymore or is it not up yet? Thanks for the link, Anthony, and yes, I have already seen that. But I don't need the description or justification to know that it represents a step backward in image quality. Admittedly a small one, but a step nonetheless.
Let me be direct: The color-fringing that occurs on edges that concerns me is not addressed by the new implementation. Specifically, the colored remnants from de-Bayering (what some call de-mosaicing) are what bother me.
My point is that the old simple Defringe setting, set to All Edges, worked very nicely to fight this common aberration. There's a thread around here somewhere in which I visually demonstrated the differences.
Here are the important points:
The new Defringe feature, even thyough it has more controls, simply CANNOT be configured to remove those same de-Bayering colored remnants as effectively as the old, simple Defringe: All Edges setting did. Thus the new implementation is not a superset of the functionality of the old.
When one tries to configure the new implementation to reduce de-Bayering color remnants - even with minimal settings - the negative side effects of the new method are much greater and more visible, making it unacceptable to be made a default setting.
It's worth pointing out that the old Defringe feature isn't available even under the PV2010 setting. The way the new Defringe feature was implemented represents a departure from Adobe's philosophy of maintaining compatibility with old settings.
It shouldn't have been strictly necessary to remove the old Defringe feature as it was implemented to add the new implementation, which addresses an entirely different (though nearby) set of aberrations. If necessary to avoid confusion or coding difficulties it COULD have been renamed, though internally it could still work the same. Or it could have been made an either/or setting. Personally I think it would be nicest to be able to combine the two - old and new Defringe features - as needed.
As it is, for the above reasons - and the fact that the newest versions run slower - I've dropped back to using Camera Raw 7.0, which is an acceptable workaround for me for now as I still use a camera that version understands. But of course that's not a viable long-term strategy. If Adobe doesn't see fit to restore this feature I've only put off the inevitable image quality degradation until Camera Raw 8 and Photoshop CS7.

Does Camera Raw 5.6 Update work for PSE 6?
I have a PSE6, and have bought a Canon Powershot G11.
Camera Raw update 5.6 includes the Canon G11, but the update documentation seems to suggest it can't be applied to PSE 6 on Windows:
Camera Raw 5.6 update page:
"The Camera Raw 5.6 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS4, versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 6.0."
But the ReadMe file says:
"The Camera Raw 5.6 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS4or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 7.0 for Windows and Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac."
Am I right in thinking that my one-year-old copy of PSE6 (Windows version) is no longer functional with a new camera? Or am I mistaken?
Advice appreciated -Some of the Adobe download links are wrong and often take you to an earlier version of Adobe Camera Raw. The latest version is ACR 5.6 which brings support for the newest camera models such as the
Canon EOS 7D, PowerShot S90 & G11, Nikon D3S and others.
So don’t worry it will work. First you will need to exit Photoshop Elements.
To get the plug-in for PSE6 go to the link below - instructions are for Windows users. They will differ for Mac users.
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4626&fileID=4303
Download the plug-in for Elements 8
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see a 64 bit folder and a plug-in file below it. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats. See Gotcha
If running windows Vista you will probably get a pop-up requesting Administrator permission. Assuming you are the Administrator for your computer, simply agree.
I can confirm it does work as I have recently updated my plug-in for PSE6 using the above method. To test it, go to one of your photo folders, right click on a raw file (NEF, CR2, DNG etc) and select open with Photoshop Elements. The image should automatically open in ACR 5.6 giving you access to the latest slider adjustments, including white balance and exposure.
Note: If you have an earlier Camera Raw plug-in, I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats. -
Where has Adobe HIDDEN the Camera RAW 8.6 update (again!)?
Starting with the 8.5 release, my CS6 version of Camera RAW no longer updates automatically. Nor can I find it anywhere in the update download section of Adobe's website. I just happened to find an obscure link to the 8.5 update after doing a ton of searches last June.
Now, the same problem exists with Camera RAW 8.6! I can get the DNG converter but it does not include Camera RAW 8.6. If I check for updates using Bridge or Photoshop, I'm told everything is up to date.
Please give me a SPECIFIC URL where I can download Camera Raw 8.6 for the Mac OS.9pines wrote:
1.— I mentioned in my original note that Help >> Check for Updates says everything is up to date on my system in both Bridge and Photoshop.
2.— Also, I mentioned that I grabbed the DNG update today. I know the webpage says it contains Camera Raw, but it doesn't. If I load a RAW image into CR, CR says it's at version 8.5.
3.—There were many other users who had this problem with 8.5, too. I beginning to think Adobe doesn't really care for users who haven't joined the CC bandwagon.
1.— That just means your install is messed up. It works on any properly maintained system I've tried so far. Is Photoshop updated to CS6 13.0.6?
2.— After downloading, did you decompress the download and mounted the .dmg file on your desktop AND ACTUALLY installed the new ACR plug-in? It DOES NOT magically get installed, you know.
3.— You are wrong. Adobe doesn't care much about any of their customers, whether subscribed to the Cash Cow or not.
4.— You are not addressing Adobe in these user forums, so drop that attitude. Your troubles are caused by user error and inexperience. -
Camera Raw 6.7 Update not working
I have photoshop CS5 and need to edit camera raw images. I downloaded and installed the 6.7 camera raw plug in update, but it's still not working! HELP!
what version of cr is shown in ps (help>about plugin>camera raw)?

I've tried completely uninstalling Bridge and Photoshop CC and reinstalling and I'm still on Camera Raw 8.3.
It just will not update.
I also tried the link to manually install and it just says the patch is not applicable.
Any ideas why even after completely removing and reinstalling both Bridge and Photoshop my Camera Raw will not update?
ThanksWhen I replied to your post, I was replying to an original post that came in via my e-mail today at 2:30 and was the most recent thing in the ACR forum and had remained unanswered for 1.5 hours, so I decided to reply. Had your post been put in a forum I subscribed to and happen to notice days ago, then I might have seen it, then, but didn't see it until this afternoon, and the e-mail version of your post only had the scant initial information, not the subsequent question and answer about your OS that you'd replied to on the other forum. So as you say, I had not read the thread, because it was on a forum I didn't subscribe to. So be shocked and perhaps awed as is necessary. My treat.
Second, I did make a typo when I said Win8/8/8.1 and it should have been Win7/8/8.1, which might have been deduced by the repeated 8, so you could have asked for clarification.
Seeing as you're on Windows 7 which ACR 8.4 should be compatible with, one minor detail is that I see in the compatible Lightroom 5.4 requirements that it needs Windows 7 Service Pack 1, which would mean you'd want to be caught up on your Windows Updates, which I would assume you'd be.
There are direct links to ACR 8.4(.1) on Jeff Tranberry's blog that are distinct for PS-CS6 and PS-CC so maybe that is what isn't right?
Keeping Photoshop Up-To-Date
You might check what version of PS-CC you have. 14.2.1 is the most current, and maybe that is prerequisite to ACR 8.4.1, I don't know.
If worse comes to worse, uninstall everything Adobe, then run the CS Cleaner then re-install CC Desktop and see what happens as you install PS-CC and it's updates. It may need to be run several times.
Once you're ready to retry your installs, you also might try to Quit CC Desktop and run it As Administrator in case there is a permissions issue.
The CS Cleaner can be found, here:

Camera Raw fails to update from 7.0 to 7.1
Hi guys. I'm using Photoshop CS6 with Camera Raw 7.0. I have a D800 (which is why I purchased CS6) and attempted to update to CR7.1 I get the following error:
Photoshop Camera Raw 7.1

I've cleared my prefs, tried the standalone installer, rebooted, all to no avail.
If anyone can help lead me in the right direction, I would be forever grateful!

Camera Raw 3.7 update with Elements 4.0 ( OS is Win XP2)
I have Elements 3.0 currently installed. My 4.0 is not an update to PE 3.0; it is the full version of PE 4.0. I believe the proper update for 4.0 is Camera Raw 3.7.
1.)Do I install the Adobe DNG Convertor AND the Camera Raw 3.7 Update, or just the Camera Raw 3.7 Update?
2) Should I uninstall 3.0 prior to the install of 4.0
3.)Please help me understand the exact steps to properly install the 3.7 update: The steps given by Adobe for downloading it to PE 4.0 are:
1. Exit Photoshop Elements.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 4.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats
5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
(WHAT ARE THE EXACT KEYSTROKES TO PROPERLY DO THIS STEP?)
6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
(WHY DOES THE THE MOVED FILE AND THE COPIED FILE HAVE THE SAME NAME?
WHAT ARE THE EXACT KEYSTROKES TO PROPERLY DO THIS STEP?)
7. Launch Photoshop Elements.(END)
Thanks in advance. I'm trying to not learn the hard way about updating.<[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]...<br />>I have Elements 3.0 currently installed. Go to Windows help <br />to for more information on how to navigate and copy files. Once you've <br />opened the specified folder in Windows Explorer, rather than moving it to a <br />new folder, I recomend that you rename the old copy of Camera Raw.8bi to <br />have a ~ as the first character in the name. Camera Raw Version 7 -- LR4 wants PS to have it, but it is not available
Since upgrading to Lightroom 4, if I try to edit a photo in Photoshop 5.1 from inside LR4 it warns me that I might need Camera Raw Version 7 for compatibility. But Camera Raw Version 7 isn't available for Photoshop -- the latest is Version 6.6, which I already have.
For photos previously processed in LR3 using Process 2010 I just say "open anyway" and I don't think there is any compatibility issue at all. But if I start using Process 2012 and then try to edit a raw photo in Photoshop I presume there will be a compatibility issue. So I haven't started using Process 2012 while waiting for CR7 for Photoshop 5.1 to be available. But when will it be available?
I haven't seen any information from Adobe on this. Since Process 2012 is the default for new photos not yet touched by Process 2010 I would think there must be more people than just me running into this issue. Why is Adobe so silent about it even after LR4 has gone public and is being shipped? (What I mean by being silent is that searching the help and support resources doesn't turn up any mention of the issue or a date for resolution).cognitive93 wrote:
Similarly I am cautious about using the "have Lightroom do the rendering" -- not being completely sure this is exactly the same as PS doing it for itself. But this may be totally unfounded conservatism on my part -- is doing it that way really identical without creating any future issues or unwanted side effects?
Yes...you must use LR to process the image into Photoshop until you upgrade to Photoshop CS6 and ACR 7. -
Photoshop Camera Raw 6.5 Update fails...
The Adobe Updater has advised me that Photoshop Camera Raw 6.5 Update is available, but the update fails. The Adobe Support Advisor (ASA) acknowledges an issue, but 'cannot determine the cause or corrective action'. There is no Error number given, just advice to contact Customer Support via . As I am outside the U.S. my only Support options are these Forums. I can only hope that Adobe Support personnel monitor the Forums!
After submitting this post I came across a submit a 'Package for Support', which generated the following Reference number: 00-02208-073525012012. Not sure if this helps!Download Camera Raw 6.6 and DNG Converter from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Install DNG Converter. You don't need it but it will also install Camera Profiles for new cameras.
Then, you can extract the Camera Raw plug-in from the download and install it manually. Here's something I wrote on this for an older version for Windows...
Unzipped the file and found two relevant folders in 'payloads':
AdobeCameraRaw6.0All-210510124504 contained the 32-bit plug-in
AdobeCameraRaw6.0All-x64-210510130426 contained the 64-bit plug-in
Within these folders was a filed called Assets2_1.zip
Unzipped the appropriate files and extracted a single file called 1003 or 1002
Renamed the file to 'Camera Raw.8bi'
Backed-up the old plug-ins by renaming and inserting a tilde (~) at the start
Copied the 6.1 version into the same folder:
(64-bit) Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\File Formats\
and/or
(32-bit) Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\File Formats\
I know, it's a bit techy, but there isn't an official way of doing this that I know of.
