Camera Raw - version sets

Hi all,
I'm a little confused. After editing an image through Camera Raw 4.1, I can see a thumbnail of both the original unedited image and the new edited image in a version set. However, if I try and open the original image, I still see the new edited image. Even if I delete the new edited image from the Elements catalogue, and then open the original version, it shows the edited version. The only way I've found round this is to duplicate a file before opening it in Raw 4.1: that seems to be ludicrous.
Am I doing something really dumb?! I'm using Elements 5, Windows, the recent Raw 4.1 and Nikon NEF files.
Thanks
Ian

Once ACR sees and opens a file (or maybe when PSE does so) a file named IMG_xxxx.xmp is created where xxxx is the picture file name. The .xmp file contains the data from ACR for its settings. To see the original raw file as it was before adjustments, you could click the selection box in ACR and click "camera defaults" or you could delete the .xmp file which will be re-created when the image is accessed again. The .xmp files are in the directory where the image files are kept and usually listed adjacent if your file browser is set to show file extensions.

You were probably using the Release Candidate version of camera raw 8.7, which one gets from Adobe Labs.

  • My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images

    Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

  • Photoshop Elements 6.0 and Camera Raw Version Question

I have been using Photoshop Elements 6.0 and it's does what I need to do.
Revcently we bought two new cameras and the Camera Raw version 5.6 that we have installed does not support these new cameras.
The Camera Raw list says that I need Camera Raw 6.2 for the one and 6.3 for the other (so 6.3).  But as far as I can understand, PE 6.0 will only support up to Camera Raw 5.6.
And to support 6.3, I'd need a minimum of PE 8.0.
    Am I correct?
    Thanks

Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original raw files as backups and for use in the manufacturers software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.2
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.2
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Cannot download camera raw version 6.6 Windows 7 get error code U44M2P7

Cannot download camera raw version 6.6 Windows 7. get error code U44M2P7

70D support requires ACR 8.2 or newer, which requires an upgrade to PSE.
I’d suggest doing a trial of PSE13 to make sure it works on your computer:

  • Camera raw version 7.4

Is Adobe Camera Raw version 7.4 or higher available for elements 10 or 11?

For photoshop elements 11, except for the mac version from the mac app store, you should be able to go to Help>Updates from
within the photoshop elements 11 editor to update to camera raw 7.4

  • Camera Raw Version 7 -- LR4 wants PS to have it, but it is not available

Since upgrading to Lightroom 4, if I try to edit a photo in Photoshop 5.1 from inside LR4 it warns me that I might need Camera Raw Version 7 for compatibility.  But Camera Raw Version 7 isn't available for Photoshop -- the latest is Version 6.6, which I already have.
For photos previously processed in LR3 using Process 2010 I just say "open anyway" and I don't think there is any compatibility issue at all.  But if I start using Process 2012 and then try to edit a raw photo in Photoshop I presume there will be a compatibility issue.  So I haven't started using Process 2012 while waiting for CR7 for Photoshop 5.1 to be available.  But when will it be available?
I haven't seen any information from Adobe on this.  Since Process 2012 is the default for new photos not yet touched by Process 2010 I would think there must be more people than just me running into this issue.  Why is Adobe so silent about it even after LR4 has gone public and is being shipped? (What I mean by being silent is that searching the help and support resources doesn't turn up any mention of the issue or a date for resolution).

Similarly I am cautious about using the "have Lightroom do the rendering" -- not being completely sure this is exactly the same as PS doing it for itself.  But this may be totally unfounded conservatism on my part -- is doing it that way really identical without creating any future issues or unwanted side effects?
Yes...you must use LR to process the image into Photoshop until you upgrade to Photoshop CS6 and ACR 7.

  • I downloaded the latest camera raw version, 8.2, but my DNG convetor still only reflects 7.1, why won't my DNG convetor update to 8.2?

I downloaded the latest camera raw version, 8.2, but my DNG convetor still only reflects 7.1, why won't my DNG convetor update to 8.2?

dng converter and cr are two different programs.
while they both do the same thing, the dng converter is a stand-alone app that does not install into another adobe program and cr installs into another adobe app like photoshop, lightroom etc.
and the latest version (as of 6/25/14) is cr 8.5.
download the dng converter is you have an app that's to old to accept cr 8.2 (or cr 8.5).

  • Photoshop Camera Raw Version to Process Nikon 1AW1 NEF Files

I am currently running Photoshop CS6 for Macintosh version 13.0.4 and Camera RAW version 7.4.0.137 and cannot process the raw (NEF) files produced by the new Nikon 1AW1 camera.  I have shot test photos with the camera prior to purchase, but can't process the NEF files.  Does a Camera Raw plug-in that will work with this camera exist?  If not, when will the appropriate plug-in be available?

The Nikon 1 AW1 is not yet supported by Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).

Adobe never comments on future camera support in ACR but ACR is updated every few months as new cameras come on to the market.
You'll have to use the import software provided by Nikon for now.

  • Camera Raw Versions and PSE Versions

On my Windows 7 PC, I have installed (and have a license for) among other both PSE V10 and PSE V12.  On my PC, when editing a Nikon NEF File, PSE V10 uses Camera Raw 6.4.1 and PSE V12 uses Camera Raw 8.2.
Since on my C Disk I see only one copy of a Folder named "NIKON D5000" (this folder is in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\Camera Profiles\Camera ), I have the impression that both the versions 6.4.1 and the Version 8.2 of Camera RAW share the identical Camera Profiles.   Is that impression/guess correct?
Question 1: Can I conclude, that (since both Camera Raw Version share the same Camera Profile folders), if I will buy a Nikon D5300 (which officially gets supported only by Camera Raw 8.n (n being probably equal or higher than 3)), that once  Camera Raw 8.n (n=> 3) will be installed on my PC (because this will be the Camera Raw Version supported/used by PSE V12), I will  be able to process my future D5300 Nef Files both with the combination of PSE V10 and Camera Raw 6.4.1 and the combination of PSE V12 and Camera Raw 8.n (even though officially, Camera RAW 6.4.1 does not support the D5300)? Thank You very much in advance for your answer.
Question 2: Can somebody point me to a downloadable  NEF file shot by the Nikon D7100?
I will then download that NEF file and see whether I can process it with the combination of PSE V10 and Camera Raw 6.4.1. This will allow me to verify the answer to question 1. Thank You very much in advance for your answer

Since I am probably not the only one on these forums who do not understand well (or who is/was not even aware of) the Adobe DNG converter,  I would like to add the following:
Yes, 99jon is totally correct: a NEF File from the Nikon D7100 will not open with PSE V10 and with ACR6.4.
...But: a couple of days ago, I realized that I could use the latest versions of the free downloadable Adobe DNG Converter (which supports among other Nikon D7100 NEF and the RAW Files of most modern cameras) to convert the D7100 .NEF files into DNG Files. To perform such a conversion, I started the DNG Converter, identified the windows folder containg the NIKON D7100 NEF Files, provided a couple of options and then let the DNG Converter convert the NIKON D7100  NEF Files into .dng files.
Once done, I imported the .dng files into PSE V10,...and could edit them without problems with the combination of PSE V10 and ACR 6.4. Even if I am not a specialist and might be wrong: I did not came across any limitation for the ACR editing of the NIKON D7100 .dng files that was problematic for my purposes (ACR even supported multiple "Camera Profiles" for the D7100!). I am more than happy!
To summarize: if making a small détour via the DNG Converter,  it becomes possible to edit with the combination of old PSE Versions and old ACR Versions the "DNG versions" of RAW Files shot with new cameras (like for example the NIKON D7100)..

  • CS5 and Lightroom 4-different camera raw versions

Lightroom 4 has a camer raw version 7 and my CS5 has 6.7? Trying to figure out the easiest way to get them both to be 6.6 which appears to be the latest versions and I have no idea how I got the versions I have. When converting from lightroom to CS5 the photo don't look the same and I assume this is the reason why. So, what do I need to delete to get these versions the same?

The ACR 6.7 is a beta which should be superceeded by the final relase soon. In terms of LR4 yes it's based on ACR 7 from the upcoming Photoshop CS6 (whose beta is out) but there is no way to back LR4's version down...
When opening from LR4 into Photoshop CS5 you should select the option to Render in Lightroom. That will have LR4 correctly render the image into Photoshop.
