Camera Raw with Elements 7 and Windows 7 ?

I just got a new computer (i7-2600 quad core processor, running Windows 7) and installed Photoshop Elements 7.0 (and Premiere Elements 7.0) from thew original installation disks. Everything seems to work so far, but I want to be able to use my Canon's (EOS T1i) RAW format (extension .CR2) as I did with my old computer (running Windows XP). I followed the on-line instructions and downloaded the Camera RAW 5.6 plug-in (stated to be the last version which works with PE 7.0). I then ran the CameraProfiles application. I then tried to navigate to the Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 7.0/Plug-Ins/File Formats folder to find the Camera Raw.8bi file. However that path does not exist. I did find the Camera Raw.8bi file in Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 7.0/Plug-Ins/File Formats (not surprisingly). But then the instructions say to copy the plug-in to the original folder in mycase, Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 7.0/Plug-Ins/File Formats) and launch PE. After doing so, I still can't open the RAW files. (I even tried creating a new path in the original Program Files folder, but that didn't work either.) What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do to access the .CR2 files in PE 7.0?

Can you check that Camera Raw 5.6 installed correctly.
Open the Editor and on the top menu click:
Help à About Plug-in à Camera Raw
You should see something like the following confirmation. Make sure it is version 5.4 or higher. Press Esc to close

  • Camera raw with Elements 11

    Hello out there,
I can surely use some help here.
I am running Photoshop Elements 11 for at least 6 months now.
The raw pictures (CR2) from my previous camera - Canon EOS 450D - worked perfect.
Now I have bought a new camera - Canon EOS 70D - and elements does not recognize the CR2 files anymore.
Any idea how to solve this ?
    Thanks for any help.
    Andy

Hi Andy, the 70D needs camera raw 8.2; so you need PSE12 or Lightroom 5. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Camera Raw for Elements 6.0 - how do I purchase plug in?

I am trying to use Camera Raw with Elements 6.0.  Does this come with Elements and I just can't find it, or do I need to buy a separate plug in? The updates on Adobe say that it doest not recognize my file type.
    Thank you!

Your best bet is to use the free version of DNG converter and watch this video to learn how to use it:

  • Is codec 1.18 compatibile with Camera Raw 6.7 and Photoshop CS5.1?

I'm planning my purchase of a D7100, and would like to understand the software updates that would be required to process raw files in Photoshop. My current software is: Photoshop CS5.1, Camera Raw is 6.7, Codec 1.12, and Windows 7.  The Adobe website indicates that I need to upgrade the codec to 1.18. I'm OK with that. But, will that codec work with the versions of camera raw and Photoshop that I currently have?

I'm pretty sure that's not required for adobe camera raw to work and yes i agree with your post 5, as the nikon d7100 camera raw files require camera raw 7.4 and
since photoshop cs5 only is compatible to camera raw 6.7, photoshop cs5 won't open those d7100 files unless you use the 7.4 dng converter to convert your raw
    files to dng copies.

Or your could update to photoshop cs6 or try lightroom 4.

every new released update of Lr from v 5.2 changed somethin in my Windows 7 Professional settings. I am stucked. Can somebody help me please? Many thanks. Andrej

    Hi Jim,
yes after I imported my .cr2 raw files into new catalog it started to work. Windows 7 still does not recognize them but I can edit them as you said within the Lr5.6 and then export them into .psd or .dng files...as needed.
I bought Lr5 only because I got present - my new camera Cannon 70D and because my older Photoshop CS5.5 raw plugin does not recognize. cr2 files.
    Many thanks for your help.

Tried to reinstall everything for a few times, but nothing helps.

  • How to open jpg, tiff files in camera raw from elements 10 organizer

How to open JPG, TIFF files in camera raw from Elements 10 organizer.

Thanks for that Damead, I agree with you that Organiser is real pain (there is a total lack of intuitiveness if that is  the correct word).
For my own work I use 'Lightroom' for around 90% of the time, only going into PSE10 for the 10% difficult bits the Lightroom can't handle.
I only needed to sort out the JPEG file opening method within PSE10 for some freinds in a small Photo Group that I run in Woodhall Spa, UK. 50% of the 12 members are beginners & a number of them do not have Raw capability on their Camera's, but now they can get their JPEG's into Camera Raw within PSE10 they have the same simple tabular form of adjustment sliders (not as many as in Lightroom of cause) but it gets over the labourious problem of going thru the PSE10's individual tool selection process each and every time since we are trying to get everyone in the Group working with individual Tools rather than the 'Auto' functions. We do this so that they learn what they are doing rather than staying 'dumb&happy' within Auto all the time & they also learn how to get more detailed control for each photo.
Ref. your comments on file handling/usage, I agree with your comments. Its far and away much more preferable to set up a file structure in 'Finder" (or in 'Explorer' if still using Windows) that you understand so you always know how to find the files. Also, I also never ever use the Camera Auto Load programme but physically 'drag & drop' photo files direct from the 'card' into the file system so I always know thier place (ie: they go into the location I want, not that which the Auto Loader wants).
As regards your comment about 'Lightroom', I don't have any problems at all since I just imported the whole of my photo file structure into the Lightroom Library Catalouge and then it automatically shows up on the LHS of the screen, still in that format, so you can search it direct within Lightroom and display all of the photo's in variuos arrangements and sizes; everything is as easy to find as it is in 'Finder' plus of cause you have all the 'Tagging' possibilities to use as well. As you add more new files into the 'Finder' structure, all you need to do in Lightroom is reimport, starting 1 level up from the new files and Lightroom will find the new files that need loading (ignoring the older ones already in the Library at that or lower levels) then 1 click and its done.
Your comments about getting others to follow a set file structure is very pertinant and also applies to evrything else that one ever does apart from just photo work; the times I have had to help others find info/files etc on their PC's because they don' know the location of anything is too many to contemplate.

  • Camera raw  with a Mac problem

For anyone that can help I will give many thanks.
I bought a Nikon D90 and I have a Mac.  I took a few shots with the camera raw format ( yes the images are in the camera) and tried to get the image on elements 6.0 for Mac and it did not work. Every image came up grey and grainy looking when I opened the file.  Went to file>open> tried to use the camera raw but had to use the photoshop raw to open it and that is when I got the grey image.  Then I downloaded the Camera Raw 5.4 and tried to open it and it read that it was not compatible with the photoshop.  What did I do wrong?  How can that be?
Please send advise in a easy way (kind of new to all this) so I will not pull my hair out.
    thanks in advance,
    marycarnahan

I am not sure about the grainy images.  If ACR is too old to recognize RAWs
from your camera it should just give an error message, not produce a strange
image.   If you are trying to read the images directly from your camera
using Elements, I would suggest copying the files to your local hard drive,
first.   I don't know if it will make any difference, but it is usually
faster and less chance to wear things out on a expensive camera body if you
take the SDHC card out and put it into a card-reader and use that to access
    the images.
As far as installing the ACR 5.4 update, which I suggest you attempt to do,
again, but realize that the setup program that comes with the ACR 5.4
updater is for updating Photoshop, not Elements, and if you have an older
version of Photoshop than CS4, then the isntaller will likely complain that
it doesn't find one that is appropriate.
There are special instructions to install the Camera RAW 5.4 update for
Photoshop Elements 6 on a Mac:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4523
The instructions, above, were linked about halfway down on the the main
    Camera RAW 5.4 update page:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4517
I am a PC user and also have to use a similar manual process to update ACR
    for Elements on Windows.

  • Camera raw cs5.5 in windows vista 32 bit

I have to install Photoshop again. Version is CS5.5 on a windows vista 32 bit system. It did what it needed to do. Photoshop runs, Bridge runs. That is all I need. However it installed only camera raw 6.0 something. For my files I need at least camera raw 6.3 or newer. Installation however fails. If I try it alone, it says it needs the application manager, if I install the application mnager, it says everything is up to date (which it is not) and if I try to install camera raw, the application manager window pops open, says it is broken and needs to be updated or reinstalled.
True, dng converter works, however it is slower than needed, and I would prefer to get it working right. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Michael

Michi555555 I would recommend reviewing the installation log files for the Camera RAW update which is failing to apply.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.  You are welcome to post any specific errors to this discussion.

You need to buy PSE13. But you can continue with PSE9 if you download and install the free DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will work with yoir existing software(keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.8

  • Camera raw 6.6 and 7.0 preview problem  after done "click" in bridge

    Hi,
when i update camera raw from 6.5 to 6.6 the preview can`t give me right preview after 1 adjustment in camera raw.Image apears like when we open it in camera raw and the first few seconds with the yellow exclamation mark.
Months ago the only solution i found after several reinstals of phoshop, was to turn back to camera raw 6.5.
Now im trying beta bridge cs6 and problem come back for me again.
    I use Nikon D3x with 14 bits ~49MB .nef files with Windows 7 64 bits .
Is any one have same problem? And why only in 6.6 (and new camera raw 7.0) and not in 6.5?
    Thanks

I don't know what they did, but I assume they rewrote some of the code which deals with some of the new process calculations and previewing, to be more processor-efficient.
Lightroom doesn't use the plug-in, as far as I know. I'd guess that would need a separate update. I haven't got it. You could tell us if it's any faster.

  • Camera Raw 6.0 (and Lightroom 3) extra slow, what's happening ?

    Hi,
I'm having a very annoying issue with both CR 6.0 and LR 3 which is a very slow responsiveness in the photo previews.
A month ago, I was using Windows XP SP3 32bit on my machine (Intel Core Duo Q6600 (4x2.57Ghz cores) - 4Gb RAM). I had Photoshop CS4 with Camera Raw 5.x and Lightroom 2. Everything was very smooth.
Then, I moved to Windows Seven 64bit and CS5 with CR 6 and LR 3.
Now, I have exacly the same issue I had before bying my current 4 core PC, which is :
in Camera Raw, even scrolling the left thumbnails part is extremely slow (rendeing of image thumbnails), and appying the slightest change of a slider (even basic ones) takes about a second and sometimes two seconds to be applied to the image preview. Quite painful to use !
Same applies to adjustments and thumbnails in LR 3.
The thing is, the behaviour occurs even with  Canon EOS 300D RAW files which are only 6 Megapixels !
I didn't try to go back to LR2 and CS4 to check yet, but well, looks quite surprising since LR3 was supposed to be a lot faster and responsive.
As it is a clean install, I have the latest set of video drivers (it's a ATI Radeon X4800).
Do you have any suggestions as to what I could do to fix this ?
    Thanks !

  • Camera Raw 3.7 And DNG 3.7

    Hi.
I use Photoshop Cs2 on my PC using Windows XP.
Yesterday I down loaded Adobe camera raw 3.7 and DNG 3.7.
Now I cannot open my raw files,I get a message saying it is not the right kind of file, also when I convert my raw files to DNG they come into the bridge as icons not thumb nails.
I wondered whether anyone can help me with this problem.
    Many thanks.

Hmmm ... my WinXP CS2 installation behaves differently. An update via the 'Help' menu does everything automatically ... no intermediate zip file, and no quessing where the ACR plug-in goes. That is, there's a specific location for it, and the Bridge plugins folder is
not it. But who am I to argue with ...
