Camera recognition fix...hopefully

Just came across this posting on fixing camera recognition. It's to do with Final Cut but it may also benefit imovie users too.

Hi,
I think we need a little more information.
Are you saying that windows doesn't see your camera or that a version of PSE doesn't recognise a RAW file from the camera?
If windows doesn't see it, the simplest answer is to buy a card reader and use that. I suspect that you may not be able to get a windows 7 driver from Canon.
What was your old system (which presumably would recognise the camera)?
If it is a problem with PSE, which version are you using?
Have you tried Zoombrowser (from Canon) to see if that recognises the camera?

I recently purchased an iPad camera connection kit hoping to directly download pictures from my camera to my iPad. When I put my memory card into the adapter and plug it in to my iPad nothing happens.  My camera is a Sony Cybershot and the memory card is a Sony memory stick PRO duo 512 mb.  I don't think I am doing anything incorrect.  Is my camera/memory card incompatible with this adapter?

The Camera Connection Kit works with SD cards, not Memory Sticks.
Maybe you can find an MS to SD adapter, or use the USB connection with the USB cable that came with the camera.

  • Can't capture after camera was fixed????

I have numerous tapes shot on my Canon XL1s. I recently sent my camera into Canon to have it fixed or tuned because it was dropping frames at times.
Anyway, they fixed my camera, I believe they put a new drum in it and said the tape path was off or something like that. Now I'm having problems with tapes shot before the camera was fixed. The video captures fine, but the audio is all distorted. It works at some parts and then doesn't at most of the rest.
Any help from anyone? Maybe I need a deck for capturing. Would this fix it. Are most of the DV decks compatible with all brands of tapes and cameras they were shot on?
    Thanks,

Is your Easy Setup matching the cameras audio rate?
It may be different after the techs have tinkered with the camera.
Is there any mixup with SP or LP speeds?
"Are most of the DV decks compatible with all brands of tapes and cameras they were shot on?"
All DV stuff should work with one another.
FYI: Tapes use either dry or wet lube and decks can get a bit out of sorts if the tapes are mixed, that's why it's best to stick with one brand of tape and stay with it.
A dedicated deck is certainlt an option. A DV camera can also double as a deck and a backup camera.

    Hello lila54,
It sounds like your Wi-Fi network is working if your desktop works with it, we just need to get the Wi-Fi on your iPhone and iPad connected to it.  I found a couple of resources to help with not being able to connect to Wi-Fi on an iOS device.
I recommend following the steps in this tutorial first (the steps should work on the iPhone and iPad):
    Join a network
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/wifi/
If you are still having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, follow the steps in this article (you can skip any steps you have already taken):

  • Same problem again! No camera recognition!  Last time's "fix" won't work.

Oh, help me anyone if you can.
    I'm at wit's end.
    My Problem
Last time I got iPhoto to somehow magically open and recognize my camera when I reinstalled the Kodak EasyShare software. I tried doing that again, but to no avail. My computer just refuses to recognize my camera!
Taking the most recent advice given to me on my last post, I even created a new Admin account, but the other account didn't recognize my camera either.
I've tried looking at various posts on here, and I've Googled the problem to the point of exasperation.
Any comments or advice would be highly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have a similar quirky problem... that perhaps one of you may be able to help with.
I can connect both mine and my wife's Nokia N73 Phones to my iBookG4 using the "Mass Storage" (ie. diskmode, 120MB miniSD) to connect via USB cable. In both instances, when connected, the diskimage appears in Finder and iPhoto automatically opens and asks whether I want to import. All is well and good.
However, the same does not happen when I try exactly the same process on my wife's Macbook.
To ensure that the problem is not caused by incorrect settings in my wife's Macbook's iPhoto (or image capture program), I checked iPhoto preferences, image capture settings. All seemed okay.
To eliminate the possibility that it was simply a USB problem on my wife's MacBook, I connected my Canon 350D to see whether it would be recognized by iPhoto and Finder - it was (trying both USB ports).
The strange thing is that the phone is recognized in Finder as a mass storage device, and I can manipulate files etc as you would expect. However, the phone is not recognized in iPhoto (this being the case for both N73 phones) despite the fact that they are both recognized in my iBookG4 by Finder and iPhoto.
Since the phones are still recognized by Finder, this does mean that I can import the photos into iPhoto via the "drag and drop" of files, or using the "import" option from the File-Menu. However, my wife's not so crash hot at doing that stuff and we love Mac because of their ease of use.
Both computers use iPhoto 6.06 (322), and both run OSX 10.4.9. So, the phones are recognized on one computer and only semi-recognized on the other computer. Any theories or suggestions as how I may resolve this issue?
Feel free to email me, and thanks in advance to your responses.

  • N97/FW21: is a camera flash fix included?

I'm about to return my N97 to Nokia, as they haven't been able to fix a flash flooding problem in the camera. Now with the new 2.1 FW I think the software is trying to compensate for the flood light, but the physiological problem is still there, resulting in lost contrast and sharpens, when the flash light bounces between the lenses.
My question: is FW21 trying to address the flash problem or is it just a coincidence the pictures are now slightly better / less horrible?
Helsinki, N97 White gone to recycling, now trying N97Mini...

Nokia never releases any detailed changelog for their fw's, so it's hard to know. But the problem is hardwarerelated and I guess it's a big job to cover that flaw.

  • Beginner help/camera recognition help;

    Hello,
    I'm trying to get started in FinalCut Express, but it does not seem to recognize my camera (A Cannon Vixia HV40). Checking system preferences shows that the computer itself sees it, but then when I open the program I keep getting this message;
"Unable to locate the following external devices:
    Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480)"
I did check through system preferences, and the computer DOES see that the camera is connected, I'm just not sure how to fix this in particular.
    Thank you

Normally you set this up the first time you launch the application. Most likely you left it at the default. You can change it in Easy Setup in the FCE menu. Make sure you also make a new sequence so that it matches your new settings.

  • IPhone 6 mic fix hopefully

I'm hoping they fix the mic issue on verizon's new iPhone 6.  I had iPhone 5s, when I call landline numbers, person on the other end couldn't hear me.

This happens to landlines, it's a hit or miss.  When I use my sister's verizon android phone, no issue at all.  I even had few iPhone 5S replacements.  I turned off the noise cancellation, also reset the network.  I tried resetting the whole phone and set up as, "new iPhone".   It's weird.  I tried iPhone 4s as well, no problem.

  • Does aperture do camera specific fixes?

My camera (Sony NEX6) requires a software to fix the distortion when shooting with the kit lens. It's usually done by the camera but if I'm shooting RAW then you have to get a software to do it. Sony supply this software that does the fixing but does Aperture have this feature built in? Is it not working for me because my camera is too new?

    aapl.crox wrote:
So I guess my best alternative right now is to use other software and export it as TIFF? I guess I will lose some data?
Use 16-bit TIFF and you'll be hard-pressed to _find_ anything missing.  The disadvantages of 16-bit TIFF compared to RAW are:
    - can be larger (many mfr's use a near-lossless RAW compression algorithm -- it removes data that the camera records but which the eye can't see)
    - WB, white point, black point, and other parameters are "baked into" the file, resulting in a less "head-room" for adjustments.
I don't know the Sony software, but you might, as a starting workflow, go from camera to Sony's software, convert from RAW, set the above parameters, apply lens correction, export as 16-bit TIFF, and import into Aperture.  You should keep your RAW files in case you want/need to go back to them, but in most cases having the corrected 16-bit TIFF as your Original in Aperture is likely to be more than usable.
I do something similar with a Sigma camera (DP2M).  For me, the serpentine workaround adds enough encumbrance to outweigh whatever benefits the camera provides, so I end up dorking around in my full-frame truck when a sports car might win me more dates.  Others feel otherwise  .

  • Camera recognition in SE 3.0

PSE 3.0 came preinstalled on my Dell computer. I have used it rarely and am by no means proficient with 3.0 but have always been able to figure things out...until now! I recently bought a new Kodak C813 and for the price, it's a fine point and shoot camera. I like PSE 3.0 better than the Kodak Easy Share program because it lets me do a little more with the editing of the photos, but here is my problem. PSE will not recognize my camera. I go to the toolbar at the top and click the arrow beside the camera icon and my menu drops down as it should. Then I click to get photos from camera, cell phone ect. A new screen opens for the photo downloader as it should. At the top right of the download screen I click on select device and get my dropdown menu and there are several options but my camera is not one of them. I'm thinking no problem, there is an option to refresh list and my camera just isn't on the list yet so I'll refresh. I do this and I still don't have my camera on the list. I make sure my camera is powered up and it is, I unplug and plug my USB cable and I hear my sounds letting me know that I have a connection to the USB port. Now I repeat the whole process and still, my camera's not on the list! I've been scratching my head trying to figure this out for about 2 hours now to no avail. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I don't think it is the camera or USB cable or connection because just a few minutes ago I gave up on it because I needed some prints quick and used another program. I still want to use my 3.0 though!

Sorry to go back and forth on this, but just so you understand how we
communicate the acronym for future reference, PSE stands for Photoshop
Elements. PSA is Photoshop Album, and PSA-SE is Photoshop Album Starter
Edition. This last one is often just shortened to PSA in this forum, but
we never seem to use PSE... this was the source of my confusion.
Now... to your problem. In some cases in newer cameras, the software
might not have the ability to recognize it if the drivers were not
    writtent be compatible with PSA.
Are you using Vista or XP? If you are using Vista, you might consider
downloading 3.2. This may or may not help.
The other thing that you can do will take an extra step, but at least
you'll get the images cataloged. Download the images with the Kodak
software, then close it. Open up PSA, and click on Get Photos from
Folder and pull them in from the folder that Kodak just created.
    Does that get you started?
    Cheers

  • Camera recognition

I just started filming using a HVR-Z1U. What do I need to do to get my Imovie HD6.0.3 to import. All controls working, but nothing shows up on scream. I feel like Luci keeps pulling the football out right as I get ready to kick it. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH
(trying to import my god sons kindergarten christmas concert)

    Hi
as I get it the HVR-Z1U is using iLink = FireWire OK
*PLEASE Observe that the 6-pin FW connector end can be PRESSED into Your Mac*
    *180 degree wrongly.*
*This harms Your Camera and results in an expencive repair.*
    *Done this. Speaking from experience.*
    Test another FW-Cable.
Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
Toogle in iMovie pref: Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape:
Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Exchange formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    Using WHAT ? :
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? (Others don't count)
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into
    this and have a re-try.
    from LKN 1935:
Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935
    from Karsten:
in addition to Bengt's excellent '9 yards of advice' ..
camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
    a technical check:
    connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
    choose 'About../More..
under Firewire.. what do you read..?

  • How do I turn OFF automatic Camera recognition in iPhoto?

I don't want to load/run iPhoto each time I connect my digital camera.
I was told a "simple" utility I could run to turn this off.
    What is it?
I tried ColorSync Utility, but it still does not work.
    any help here?

  • Camera recognition problems with imovie 08

    Hi,
Just had a breakthrough. I couldn't get imovie 08 to see my camera (Sony HDR UX1E). On a hunch I went back to the drawer and instead of using my regular usb 2 camera connection lead I used the identical looking one Sony supplied with the camera. Guess what? Suddenly everything works!

Didn't quite work that way for me. Still having problems, even using the Sony supplied USB cable. All that shows up is an Untitled DVD on my desktop.
Installed Leopard yesterday, iMovie '08 already installed on the machine, everything updated and patched, etc.
Will post in the main forums and see if anyone has any ideas.

  • IPT/camera recognition problems

I have a brand new ipod touch, 2nd gen. My computer's running XP and it won't recognize my IPT at all (or, if I have photos on it, it recognizes it as a camera). I've followed the advice on here about updating my driver information from the device manager in my control panel, but it says I already have the recommended driver settings. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled all of the software with iTunes. Every so often it recognizes it but then iTunes doesn't let me sync to it. I've noticed Windows is more likely to recognize it if the battery isn't fully charged...don't know if this is at all relevant. Any help would be wonderful; I'd love to get this thing working.

Thanks for replying! Yes, I've tried all my USB ports, and not using any hubs. I haven't tried a different cord; this one came new with the iPod so I didn't think that would be the problem at first. Maybe I should see about getting a new cord though. I've also read somewhere in these forums that older model computers don't provide the "juice" necessary to connect the IPT and that I should look at an adapter of some sort...

  • Camera Recognition Problems

As always, I'm having a problem at the worst possible time. I'm using Final Cut Studio 2. Out of the blue, Final Cut is not recognizing any cameras that I use (Canon GL2 and Canon XH-A1). I'm trying to both capture and edit to tape (specifically, a mini-dv), but neither will work. When I try to edit to tape, I get a message that says:
+Unable to initialize Edit to Tape. Please check your current Device Control Preset in Audio/Video Settings.+
I've tried different things in the Audio/Video Settings, but with no success. Currently, it's set on Firewire NTSC. I've also tried Firewire NTSC Basic. I've also tried using different firewire ports on both the computer and the external drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the camera is not being recognized when you have checked using System Profiler, try this ...
    • Unplug the power cord from the computer (at the computer, not the wall)
    • Unplug all firewire cords from the computer.
    • Go have a cold or hot beverage of choice.
    • If you finish the beverage and it has been less than 15 minutes since you unplugged everything, have another beverage.
    • Now reconnect all cables and fire up the camera and computer again.
Does the computer see the camera now?
(This process resets the firewire bus. )
