Camera recognized but no video

I have iChat on 10.4 on a 700 mhertz power pc laptop w/640m RAM. I connect the camera. It works in Quicktime and iMovie. In iChat it is recognized but all I get in the preview screen is grey. I have tried trashing all 5 iChat preferences. When I restart the program I get the same results. Yet, on my desktop iMac using the same equipment, software, ISP everything works fine. Any suggestions.

OK, Len,
Then the msg # 2 suggestions I made at

are the best I have to offer.

  • Capturing problem: camera recognized, but fcp freezes

Just started using fcp 5.1.2 (used to use 4.5 on my G4) after getting the new macbook pro and its my first time capturing video with it from my Canon GL-2. The video doesn't show up in the logging window, when I press play it still says preview disabled. When I try to capture the clip it rewinds to the point on the tape and starts playing, but the computer still says its cuing the video. The camera just keeps playing and fcp freezes and I have to force quit. It seems the device is recognized fine and is able to be controlled, but the video isn't coming through or something. Any idea what the deal is? Thanks ahead of time.

Do you have firewire drives connected to the computer?
If so, what happens if you remove them and capture directly to the system drive?
if it works, you need to create a second firewire bus for the camera. Look into an Expresscard 34 firewire card.
If it doesn't work, try the Quicktime Reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
    Good luck.

  • Share to video camera:  audio, but no video

I'm trying to backup my iDVD movie to a videotape like I've done a number of times before. But when I try to "share" the move to the video camera, I get audio coming through but no video. The cable appears to be fine...I can see video from the camera within iDVD when I try to download it from the camera, but there's no video when I try the share option.
Any thoughts on what's up here?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the replies.
I mis-wrote in my original post...I'm trying to share back to the video camera in iMovie, not iDVD. Apologize for that.
I've checked that box in preferences as recommended (don't think it was checked before when I've shared this way successfully), but still only getting audio back to the camera, no video.
Any other thoughts? I have ordered a new firewire/DV cable, so I'll get a chance to see if that helps in a day or two.
    Thanks again.

  • Quick Time is not recognizing my Digital video camera (sony digital 8)

Quick Time is not recognizing my Digital video camera (sony digital 8) Am using ieee cable and camera is recognized as on and imports if I open iMovie, but when I go to quick time, new movie, I get drop down message that says "No recording device found." All other applications are closed and not interfering with QT. How do I get QT to recognize camera?

VOB is an MPEG format for DVD videos.

  • Can control camera with iMovie, but no video displayed

    Sony HDV 1080i camera w/iMovie HD 6.0.
I can control the playback via iMovie & video plays on camera, but iMovie window just displays "camera connected". No video.
    Ideas?

Open the Audio MIDI Setup application (Utilities folder).
Try changing the settings to 44100Hz (CD Quality) or to 48000Hz (typical of the iMovie formats).
Others call this the GarageBand fix. Opening GB also resets the Audio MIDI Setup.”
If that is too hard to understand:
    *Open GarageBand
    *Play a few notes
    *Close Garageband
    *Open imovie
    *Camera should be recognized now.

  • Capture card recognized but not capturing any video

    Hi everybody,
    I have a problem with a capture card, a Pinnacle 50dtvi.
I'm trying to capture live video via Flash, using the Camera
object. With my webcam it works perfectly.
Flash is given the permission to access the capture card,
which is recognized correctly by Flash, nevertheless it doesn't
    show any output.
    Any solution?
Maybe there's a problem with the fact the card has several
input sources (tv, analog in etc.) and Flash doesn't know how to
distinguish among them - this, for instance, is what happens with
softwares like vvvv, where you can select the capture device and,
    inside it, the capture source.
Is there any way to make this choice in Flash via
    ActionScript?
Do you know of any (possibly low-cost) capture card working
with Flash which have a in and a out?
I've seen others have similar problem, for instance:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=578&threadid=1164387&en terthread=y
    Thanks everybody!

I have the same problem with other TV capture cards. I've
tried a hauppauge 150, 350, and an AverMedia card.
All show up as valid camera devices, but there is no video. I
even tried to use an external applciation to set channels, set
    inputs, etc. No luck.
My application works with some camera sources, such as usb
web cams and a usb composite video capture device.
I've searched lots of different forums and come across this
problem at least a half a dozen times - never answered though.
    Help!!

My iPad camera photos will wirelessly sync with my iMac and iCLoud photo stream, but the videos do not, is USB connection the only way to transfer videos or is there also a wireless method?

Videos are not included with the Photo Stream. Photo Stream is for photos only.
There is not a wireless method for importing videos from the iPad's Camera Roll.

  • I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch. I went in my messages to save a video in my camera roll. The video is not in my camera roll but my memory keeps on going down and I don not want to restore my iPod. Please help me

I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch. I went in iMessage to save videos that were sent to me in my camera roll. The videos do not appear in my camera roll but my memory keeps on going down. I do not know how to solve the problem. I do not want to restore my iPod but I want to get my memory back. Please Help ME

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger tha about 1 1/2 usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
    as recommended by:
How do I get rid of "other" storage: Apple Support Communities
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software

Videos!  They can take up a lot of space.

I am trying to sync my camera roll photos and videos to itunes, but it is not giving me the selection to do so. What do I do?

You import them as you would with any digital camera.
Pics taken with iphone are not part of the sync process at all.
