Camera Roll Images on Photostream?

i seem to be endlessly perplexed by photostream.
does anyone know if images i take on my iPhone that are stored in CAMERA ROLL supposed to be seen on my computers or on my iPhone in "Photostream"? do i have to check a setting on my phone somewhere for this to happen? also, does this happen by Wifi or perhaps via my Cellular signal or both?
i am running Mavericks on the MBP ML on the Mac Pro and Aperture on both.
thanks for any help.

hi randers.
thank you so much for the help.
i have been ignoring this issue for the better part of a year and i am finally sitting down to thrash through it so i can get this to work. in this case i think the issue is that i had to turn on Wifi.
i have been getting help with the Aperture Settings in the last couple of days and these are a real beast. i wish they would at least make a half attempt to document the settings, /name/ them in some consistent way and to minimize the number of places i can set something related to the cloud sync/storage functionality. it has been such a nightmare since the days of MobileMe.
for instance -irrespective of corruption issues in MobileMe in particular - not only can i set something in Aperture on my MBP and my Mac Pro and my iPhone but i can also set something related to Photos Sync in my iPhone (thanks for pointing this out) but i CANNOT set anything (apparently) related to photos in iCloud on the web. Also, even just the setting in APERTURE ITSELF has changed between ML and Mavericks with one saying "iCloud" and the other saying "Photos" or something or other. plus /none/ of the settings in Aperture have any documentation associated with them whatsoever (either within the UI or in an FAQ or online documentation).
ALSO, even just the icon for setting for Photostream in iOS6 is shown as the icon for VIEWING ALL PHOTOS on the iPhone even though i can download the iPhoto App for my iPhone (free) which also syncs to Photostream and which (apparently) has more robust functionality that the stock "Photo" App. i don't understand why mac developers or all people would not understand that making the switch in Settings for Photostream Sync On/Off the /same/ icon as the APPLICATION on the iPhone that handles all photos (irrespective of whether photostream is on or off) is uber confusing. i did have it on but just saying "Photos" and a switch does not clue me in to the fact that this is related to Photostream.
not to complain but i am guesing that there are half a dozen different names for the settings for Photostream sync between mountain lion and mavericks just between my computers and my iPhone.
and - actually - NOT having an option to check for photostream in iCloud actually makes it a lot easier to understand how to manage this sync. i can just turn it on or off for my various devices and leave it at that...
anyway, i spent about four days reading and troubleshooting related issues (non-photostream photos showing up in photostream on my iPhone and photostream photos on my iPhone not showing up elsewhere) so it is a BIG relief to get this more under control.
THANK YOU

  • IOS devices don't put shared photos from Camera Roll onto My Photostream

I have photostream setup and working pretty well. I have 2 iPhones and 2 iPads syching all their photos between them and sharing with others. My phortos are also being automatically saved on my mac mini using My Photostream.
The problem is when I want to add photos someone esle has shared on a photo stream into My Photostream. I save the photo I want into the Camera Roll of the device. This bit works fine but for somereason the photo isn't then put into My Photostream. It's very strange because if I put images into my Camera Roll through other methods (such as from an email or a screen capture and of course by taking a photo) the image gets into My Photostream. It's just images I imput from shared photostream that don't.
This is really frustrating because I want to easily have other people's photos that I want in my personal colleciton included in the backup on the mac mini. It's particularly nice how all my photos appear grouped by month in Events in iPhoto.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any advice on how to fix it? It's occuring with all my iOS devices so it looks like it might be a bug.

I'd rather not. Besides the hassle of the extra synch process, they'll come in as separate import events mixed in wih all my other photos and not be in the month by month photostream archive I mentioned.

  • How do I move photos from my camera roll to my photostream on the iPod Touch

I turned off the photostream because I didn't like that when I would delete a photo I'd have to delete it from two seprate places. But now syncing my photos to my computer is a huge pain since I don't use a Mac. So I figured photostream was my best bet since it syncs into a nice folder automatically on my computer.
When I turned photostream back on it didn't include any pictures from my camera roll that I took after I had initially turned photostream off.
It doesn't give me the option to select them from my camera roll and copy them to the photostream. Please tell me there's a way to do this?

Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • How can I manually transfer My Camera Roll to MY PHotostream

I was having some difficulty getting new photos to appear in My Photostream. Contacted Apple Support and she took me through a procedure that wiped out my Photostream pictures. She put me through to the next level of support who informed me that my Photo Stream pics were gone. My question is can I force my Camera Roll Pictures to My Photostream?

You can't. Photo Stream is real time only. Also it's important to understand that it is temporary storage. Oldest photos will be removed. So you should not count on it as a way to save important photos permanently. See: iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ

  • Problems in accessing Camera Roll images using HTML 5 technology

    Hello,
I have developed a application using HTML 5 technology. This application is supportable to iPhone 4S. In this application, if we try to upload an image from "Camera Roll" it's not returning properly. The result image is rotated, squeezed and in different format. But this is working perfectly if we upload the image from other folders like Photo Stream.
No idea why the images from Camera Roll is not returning in proper format.
Your help and support is much appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Abdul
I've looked at your app and really like the way it accesses Camera Roll - I would be interested in learning more about this project - is there any way I can get in touch with you? Do you have another web site ?

  • Why does only a few of the photos in my camera roll download to photostream

Not all my pictures from my camera roll go to my photostream so I can download to my pictures on my pc.

Have you synched your phone to iTunes lately?   Maybe there is a corrupted sync that needs to be cleaned up.

  • Photo copies: camera roll and my photostream

My iPhone 5S 16GB iOS7.1 (and probably my iPad Air too) saves two copies of a photo whenever I take a picture/screenshot, one in Camera Roll, and another in My Photostream, and if it is a panorama shot it saves in Camera Roll and Panorama. Because of this, it is using twice the necessary storage just for photos. How do I prevent this from happening?

Turn off Photo Stream with your iCloud account settings on the device.
Panorama photos available in the Panorama album are not duplicated as in taking double the storage space. The photos in the Panorama album includes a pointer only to the original photo stored in the Camera Roll. This way you can quickly view all panorama photos without having to search for it among all other photos in the Camera Roll.

  • Why have all of my camera roll images suddenly turned to a blank grey screen that says jpg in the middle?

all of my photos in my camera roll suddenly turned to blank grey screens the other day and they all say jpg in the middle of them, i did nothing for this to happen so can't understand why it has. I literally went on my camera roll and they all started changing as i scrolled up. Can anybody tell me why it has done this and what i can do to get all of my pictures back?
    thankyou.

    Here's what I'd try (starting at 1 and if it doesn't work, then 2);
    1. Try opening the images (try taking a picture and see if that opens also)
    2. Try plugging it into computer, check if you can view the photos on that
    3. Check when the last backup was made (hopefully it was recent) and restore from that
    4. Try an alternative itunes manager like copytrans and see can you get access to the images with that

  • Camera Roll image order?

How can I have my photos in the camera roll show what I recently just took at the top of the roll instead of at the bottom? basically the order show newest taken to oldest photos instead of oldest to newest and having to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the photos I just took.
    Thanks!

I know of no way to do this. You should be importing camera roll pics to your computer on a regular basis ( and backing them up from there). Why not just make albums/folders from the pics and syncing them back to the iphone from your computer.

  • HT201317 Camera Roll vs. Photostream

So I guess my biggest question is, can I keep photos in the photo stream and delete them off of my camera roll to save memory? My memory on my camera roll is ridiculous and photo stream seems like a better online option? Is it really?

I just answered a similar question here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22075069#22075069.

  • Photostream adding photos to camera roll...

I have a single photostream (one iCloud account) set up on 4 devices - iMac (running Aperture 3.3), two iPhone 4S's, and an iPad 2.  In order to share photos over all devices, I used my wife's iCloud account to connect all the devices to one Photostream. It is working perfectly...except...
When a new photo is added to any device and the Photostream folders in Aperture on my iMac, it shows up in the Photostream album all the devices just as intended...except for my wife's iPhone, where they show up in the "camera roll" album, her Photostream folder is empty (always).  If my wife takes a photo, it shows up in her camera roll, makes it to all the other devices via photostream, but never makes it to the photostream on her phone...it's as if the camera roll photo album is a surrogate for the photostream album on her phone.
The obvious issue is that the photos that are loading up in her "camera roll" are then backed up via the iCloud in lieu of the Photostream (which doesn't count against your total iCloud memory if I understand it correctly) and is using up our iCloud memory extremely fast - previoulsy we never used more than 6-7GB...now, since setting up photostream, we are at 24.5GB on a 25GB account and getting space warnings.
As a result, we've had to turn off photostream for the time being, or, i suppose we could buy ungodly amounts of iCloud memory to compensate for this (we are the proud parents of a photogenic toddler - arent they all?? - and take a lot of photos), I can't help but feel this should be working better...any thoughts of what might be happening?  I'm sure I am missing something simple...but what is it?
FYI - I have restored her iPhone, reset the photostream, deleted the photos in her camera roll...all to no avail...As I noted, all the other devices seem to be behaving as expected.

    From this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486
iOS devices: New photos you take are automatically uploaded to your photo stream when you leave the Camera app and are connected to Wi-Fi. My Photo Stream does not push photos over cellular connections.

  • How do I remove all images from my Camera Roll?

I connect my phone to an iMac and I cannot find an option to view and delete all of the Camera Roll images that have already been imported over many months.  There are 1,500 images in the camera roll and I want to remove them all.
I realize that you can 'delete images from device' after you import new photos into iPhoto.  These are older images that I don't want to delete one by one.
    THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!

Open Photos, press the arrow button in the top right corner, tap all the photos you want to delete and press the delete button at the bottom.  (You still have to tap all of them; there's no "delete all" button.)

  • Photostream and camera roll

On my Iphone 4, I have many more photos in the camera roll than in photostream. But when I go to my PC,the photos from my camera roll are in the photostream file. I thought only photos on photostream on my phone would get synced w/photostream on my computer? What am i not getting here? I'm confused and do NOT want to lose photos! thnx.

iCloud drive is turned on but iCloud library is not available in the public release.
I have the public release installed, but Cloud Library is there in the "Settings > Photo & Camera". You do not have it?
They need to give us a way to manage the on device photos independent from the cloud/phostream photos.
I need to be able to delete pics from device without them disappearing from the cloud, ie. Apple TV screensaver, ipad photostream, etc.
We do not even know, if a photo is local or in the Photo Stream!
They should not have made these changes until their new iCloud photo library was out of beta.
But that would have postponed the release of the iPhone  6 - it needed some kind of operating system!  What a mess.

  • Camera roll, photo stream, libraries explained.

    Anyone?
I have IPod's, touch and phones; IPad 2.
Just a quick tutorial, the online support docs has been read and still a little unclear and not that smart.
Is there a scenario in which Camera Roll images last more than a month?
Photo stream will last for 30 days on the devices (IPod's touch and phones; IPad 2) and then purge, correct?
On a Windows or Mac computer they are untouched by iOS activities?
If I create libraries, can they replicated across all these devices?Once I create a library, are they a camera or photo stream?
Can I keep my camera continually set to HDR?
If I am in the wrong discussion group, let me know that too.
    Be kind, rewind,

Hi Pvonk and thanks for your clear response in the wake of my vague descriptions,
Correct I meant Photo Stream and not Camera Roll.  Sorry.
I get it now.  Thank you.
Yes.  My original concern was this:
So, anything my friends and family with Apple ID's will be able to see on Photo Stream is one current months worth of photos from my devices.  They will stay on my deivices until storage runs out.  That G-d I got 64GB's on each.  I would need to thether them to a PC and copy off the older images to make more device room eventually.
I have moved my videos to YouTube almost auto-magically -   My new YouTube 'Capture' is finding them, it appears, on the device they're on to make ready for upload.  Any suggestions where to move images so that my circle can view them in 'Albums? - I'm getting in to Google+ since it seems I can store stuff there and assess permissions.  Can I give read only permissions to my Apple Storage to others with their Apple Accounts?
I want to save my images and not loose them, sort them in Albums and let anyone I want be able to see them across the Internet.
In short, I need to keep your #3 advice for PhotoStream.  Make sure there are not single images there that aren't back-up somewhere else.
Yes I meant Albums.  If I copy them to PhotoStream will they stay for thirty days - even if they were there once before in PhotoStream? (though not in a Library)
The camera setting has HDR, under options.  I remember reading somewhere it takes three pictures/images and combines them for the best image or something like that.  It seems to turn off when I close the app or change to flash - I think...
    Is it worth using?
I am, er was, a died in the wool Windows | AD guy | Novell too | Blackberry too.  I am loving this new stuff.  I am born again.
    Thanks again Pvonk and later,

  • HT201317 How do I get my Camera Roll onto my Photo Stream?

I just turned on my photostream, I'm trying to figure out how to get my Camera roll onto my photostream

I was having problems with the Scanner and Camera wizard saying no device available, so I enabled the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service. I still see no photos, but at least there is an iphone device.
    http://www.anetforums.com/posts.aspx?ThreadIndex=29984
If you have DCOM errors in the System Event Log that reference StiSvc, then make sure the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is set to Manual or Automatic, instead of Disabled.
