Camera roll preview thumbs blacked out after OS4 update

After the latest iPhone 4.01 update, all the preview thumbs in my camera roll are displaying as black. New pictures display correctly, but ALL two hundred picture previews I had on the phone are black.

There are a couple of other threads on this issue and how to fix it (requires using a 3rd party desktop app to rebuild the image database), but with any luck it is fixed in 4.2, which should be out very shortly. If you search the forum you should find the suggestions if you don't want to wait or are cautious about updating.

  • After updating my software to iOS 6 when I take a photo in an app on my iPhone such as Instagram and camwow when the photos go my camera roll they are black..why?

After updating my software to iOS 6 when I take a photo in an app on my iPhone such as Instagram and camwow when the photos go my camera roll they are black..why?

I upgraded an iPhone 4 from IOS 4 to IOS 6 and had similar problems here is what I did.
    Problem:
Using the Camera App from the initial screen (a view finder for me) there is an icon on the lower left side with my last photo taken.  When I select this icon the image is displayed and on the upper left side of the screen the Camera Roll button appears.
I select the Camera Roll button and all my images show up as black on a white background.  I can select a black square and my image will apear.
Using the Instagram App when I try to select from my Camera Roll I see the same black boxes, and Instagram is not saving photos to my Camera Roll.
    Fixing Instagram not saving problem:
    Go to Settings:Privacy:Photos
Move the Instagram slider to ON
Back to the images not showing in the Camera Roll.
Someone suggested doing a reset (hold down sleep and home button for 10 seconds).  After doing the reset the problem was worse.  From the Camera App selecting the last photo icon from the view finder screen and the Camera Roll screen apears but says there are no saved images.
Fixing the Camera Roll not showing correctly problem:
Set Settings:General:Restrictions to ON (You will be prompted to create a password)
    Select Settings:General:Restrictions ON>
Toggle the Camera slider to ON if it isnt already
This worked for me. Your milage may vary.  Good luck.

  • Camera roll not seen in album after updating ios8

Camera roll not seen in album after updating ios8

That is intentional. The Camera Roll album is no longer show as a separate album, also My Photo Stream is no longer a separate album.  This Help document explains, where you will see the photos now.
Get help finding your Photos in iOS 8http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6464
Have you enabled the "Summarise Photos" option? Then disable it.
By default, Photos displays a representative subset of your photos when you view by year or by collection.
To see all your photos, go to Settings > Photos & Camera, then turn off Summarize Photos.
And did you migrate your photos from iPhoto?  Some photos may still be in the iPhoto Library, that is no longer supported:

  • Blacks out after playing video

My ipod blacked out after playing a video I downloaded from Itunes music store. Not responding, does anyone know how to solve this?

There is no screen event triggered when the video finishes playing that you can use to jump to the next slide or unhide a button to enable the user to navigate forward at a time of their own choosing.
If you know the duration of the video, you can place a navigation button on the timeline at that point so that it appears just after the video finishes playing.  However, you may find that on different PCs with different system specs the video may take slightly more or less time to play.

  • My early 2008 Macbook Pro is suffering from black screen after Yosemite update

My early 2008 Macbook Pro is suffering from black screen after Yosemite update. It ran beta 5 great but failed on restart after beta 6 install. There is no cursor but I can hear the HDD spooling up. I have tried booting in safe mode, PRAM reset and SMC reset but nothing works. After the first 5 days of every now and then trying to start it, it started fine. I used the machine all day with no problems, it had rolled back the install and was back on beta 5. I decided to try the update again, the same thing happened and it has stayed black for over a week now. It wont work with a monitor either. Help!

    Hello Adam,
I would try instead of installing the beta software, to install the official build of OS X Yosemite from the Mac App Store to see if that gets you passed the no video issue when updating the beta software.

  • Photo Booth became black screen after Newpad updated to iOS 7

Photo booth became black screen after Newpad updated to iOS 7

It is not a widespread issue that requires apple to come out with a fix, I have many ipads that were updated and have no issues.
I would suggest you back-up and restore your device, that can repair many issues if the original update was corrupted.

  • Preview clips blacked out in imovie/desktop prefs after 10.4 upgrade

I recently upgraded to tiger 10.4 and when i open sys prefs/desktop/iphoto folder all of my images come up black squares. The same thing happens when I open imovie and want to access photo clips. The file names appear but images are blacked out. Any idea how to fix this?

The server slowly ground to a halt overnight, so we had no choice but to format and install fresh. It was a nightmare, but thankfully, it's over.

  • 27 inch thunderbolt display blacks out after Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2

Bought 2 new 27 inch TB displays for two different machines and after a couple of days the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 appears on my Mac Pro with one of the displays installed. So I install the firmware update.  Now my display blacks out periodically and I keep getting Graphic Display Errors with a request to sent the errors to Apple. Running a 32 GB Mac Pro (late 2013 circular style) I have three monitors connected (two 20 inch cinema displays and the new 27 inch display). This machine is supposed to be able to handle three 4k monitors or 6 standard TB displays.  I've seen the posts about the blacking out with this monitor but I didn't have any problems before the firmware update and now I've got them pretty regularly.  I had the blacking out problem on an earlier monitor and took one of the monitors back and Apple gave me another one and this is the replacement.  Same problem, but this one only started after the update. I'm hoping someone from Apple reads these messages and can let me know what's up.
BTW, I also have an older 27 inch Apple monitor that ran perfectly on this machine so I'm disappointed that I spent all this money and now get the blacking out issue.
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    Processor 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
    Memory 32 BG
Graphics AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB

I have my Thunderbolt display connected to my MacBook Pro and have been experiencing the same issue, getting worse over time.  The folks at my local Apple store did not know what to do about it.  So, I looked around and tried different thing.
The one thing that seems to be working is to System Preferences > Build-in Display > uncheck “Automatically adjust brightness.”
    I hope this helps.

  • Screen blacks out after a few seconds and won't return to normal state.

I have the 30 gig ipod photo that i got about a year and a half ago. Whenever I look at the screen to access music or anything, the screen blacks out like there's a screensaver or something and won't return back to normal. Even after I reset it, it stays normal for a few seconds and then blacks out again. The backlighting still works so it's just a bright black screen and I have function of the click wheel because it clicks everytime I move up or down. I already tried restoring it so I am all out of options. Anyone PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks
    Steve

This happens rarely but consistently! I't seems to happen about 5% of the time waking from sleep. It MAY be more prone to happen if I had been moving with it in my bag, but it can happen at any waking time after any duration of sleep.

  • Screen blacks out after latest itunes update installed

last year after installing an update for itunes my screen blacked out. it then intermittently worked for a few days before failing permanently. this was later fixed by replacing the inverter board. i didn't suspect the two events were linked. however, yesterday i got the latest update for itunes and again a few minutes after installation my screen blacked out! deja vu... it seems unlikely but is it possible the screen fault is caused by updating itunes?
this morning the screen is working again and i have run system restore to undo the installation. fine, but when i try to open itunes it starts installing again.

Thats odd. Not sure what this error means, but you could always try repairing disk permissions, that seems to solve most of the random errors that occasionally pop up on my OS X macs. Load the OS X install dvd into the drive then restart your machine holding the C key. choose english as the main language. Then go into the utilities menu and select disk utility. Click on your hard disk then click the repair permissions button. Once completed, restart the computer into OS X. Then try your screensaver again. If this doesnt work, post again and I'll take a closer look at it.

  • Most of apps blacked out after I transferred purchased items??

When updating my iPad Air, a message popped up, saying that I may need to transfer my purchased items to the iTunes library before updating, so I did so.
First, why do I need to do this? Will I lose anything after I update?
Second, after I did this and all items were copied to my library, my storage was full (0 bytes available) after having 980 MB free. However, this isn't the issue; most of the apps during the transfer were blacked out like apps are before they are downloaded from the AppStore. I tried to open one of them, iBooks. It told me 'waiting' and is still like that ever since. Why is that? How do I open them again?
    Thanks for any help.

The fact that you only have 980 MB available is a problem. You need to leave some space on the device for fragmentation and that's just not enough space at all. So that means that your device is overloaded at this point. When you transferred the purchases and then tried to sync them back, the storage was at its limit. Maybe something got fragmented and put you over the top but now you need to delete some content before those "waiting" apps will finish syncing.
You always want to transfer purchases into iTunes in the event that the app, song, video, book, etc., is no longer available for download, you will still be able to sync it back to your device if you remove it from the device for any reason. Also, If you don't transfer it into iTunes and you sync without doing so, that will erase it from the device because when you sync with iTunes, you transfer the contents in iTunes to the iPad. If the content isn't in iTunes, it will be erased from the device when you sync. Does that make sense? I hope I explained that clearly enough.

  • My secondary monitor flashes and blacks out after the 10.7 install.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have installed 10.7 and the secondary monitor flashes and blacks out.  I downgraded back to 10.6 and the problem went away.  I reinstalled 10.7 and the same problem happened again.  The monitor blacks in and out especially when the pointer is placed in the dock area, but it still happens all the time.  My secondary monitor is a ViewSonic 22 inch that is connected to a DVI to display adapter.  Any solutions??
    Thanks

Talked to AppleCare and it's most likely the fact that my MacBook has 3.0 USB ports and my non official charging cable can't support that. So yeah, I'll try a new cable, hopefully that's the fix.

  • Iphoto 11 thumbnails partly blacked out after importing

My existing library of approximately 12K photos in iPhoto 11 appears fine with no problems.  However, now I find that when I try to import new photos into it,  the thumbnails as well as the imported photos are partly blacked out.  The import process takes longer than it should as well.  The same photos are imported correctly into Lightroom so they are not the problem.  I've rebuilt the library and the thumbnails, but the problem continues.  Any suggestions?  Thanks
