Camera Serial Number for Nikon D80?

I've seen multiple references to sorting by camera serial number, and I've searched for info on how this info is incorporated into Lr 2.0, but so far I'm still in the dark.
My system (Win XP SP3) doesn't incorporate serial number from my D80 when I import NEF files, and I'm wondering whether this only occurs with the more expensive models? Or should I expect that my serial number should show up in Lr 2.0?
Tom R

Thanks for the suggestion. I've downloaded the application and will try it tonight.
Lr 2.0 shows the serial number field as blank...

  • Nikon D300 raw files, unable to retrieve the camera serial number!

    Hi all,
I have just downloaded some D300 NEF files (camera firmware v. 1.2) onto my PC, and both Bridge and Camera Raw display NO camera serial number in all the shots! :-( And when I convert them in DNG, I still don't have any info on the nikon camera serial no. , why!? :-(
I opened them with EXIF tool and I tested that the camera serial is there in all the NEF's (and also JPEG) files.
I tried the NEF files from a Nikon D2X camera and, this time, the camera serial is read perfectly from both Bridge, Camera Raw and Lightroom (v. 1.4.1) too. Does someone have any hints!?
    Thanks in advance! ;)

    >then it's either a bug in the application or an application that ignores some very basic rules.
For as long as Photoshop has been around, any plug-in, with or without an extension will try to be loaded by Photoshop (as well as Bridge). Normal renaming of a plug-in or removing an extension will NOT eliminate Photoshop's ability to load them at startup.
There are certain symbols you can add to the front of a file name to prevent loading the plug-in. If you want to disable a plug-in on startup you'll need to add ¬ symbol as a leading character and that plug-in will be disabled.
This is neither a bug nor a failure of the application...it's a special situation that is a standard cross-platform method that Adobe apps have used for years (at least 18 years at this point with Photoshop).
So, while it may be obscure and obtuse, it's not the problem of Photoshop/Bridge since it's behaving as designed.
In testing various versions, I often have up to 1/2 dozen different versions of Camera Raw installed at one time. I use the ¬ symbol to disable all the version I don't want to load and make sure only 1 version is named normally.

  • Lightroom not reading correct data for Lens and Camera Serial Number

    Hi you all.
Recently got Lightroom, and I'm so impressed - I never imagined image organizing and adjustment could be this easy and at the same time very advanced.
I have a problem, however. Lightroom (and Adobe Bridge, too) does not correctly read the EXIF data of Lens type and Camera Serial Number.
The first ~50 images I took and imported turned out correctly and displayed my serial number and lens (18-55 mm Canon) inside Lightroom.
But now, whenever I import photos into Lightroom or view them with Bridge, they all display "Unknown Lens" and "Unknown Camera Serial Number".
At first I thought that maybe the camera didn't correctly record this data on to the photos anymore for some reason, but a comparison using EXIFToolGUI shows that the metadata is EXACTLY the same as in the photos that display this info in Lightroom correctly.
I have not done any changes to either my camera (Canon EOS-350D / Digitial Rebel XT) or lens (the kit lens, 18-55 mm Canon).
It seems that for some reason, Lightroom has stopped reading these two fields of metadata - all the other fields, such as aperture and shutter speed, all display correctly.
I also tried to reimport the photos into Lightroom, but it didn't help. Neither did "Synchronize Folder" -> "Scan for metadata updates".
What should I do? I'd like my lens information do display correctly, as I'll buy a new lens soon.
I have attached one of the photos that Lightroom doesn't read the data correctly from. Try importing it into your Lightroom, and see if how the info displays.
    Thanks in advance.

Are these jpgs or RAW?  I have only edited metadata on jpgs.
It looks like Vista's import stripped out all the makernotes.  I didn't look at your file but that seems to be what happened.  Be warned, Photoshop CS2 also strips out makernotes!
Now how to fix the problem.  If you want to edit the metadata on files already loaded into LR, you need to write out your metadata to the files first, then edit the metadata, then read the new metadata into LR.  This is scarey for me, so I always make sure my backup is up to date on the images first.
What to do...  You probably can't put back all of the makernotes, so what to do to get the lens information in.  I don't know if putting back in the makernote LensType would trigger LR to reconsider its lens information.  I don't know.  If it had a real lens name, my guess would be no because it would have an XMP::Lens field which would override.  But maybe unknown lens doesn't have this field and it would re-read the makernotes.
The other solution is to forget about makernotes for these images and put the exact text you want into XMP::Lens.  I think that's the "easy" way.
In either case, you will have to become familiar with exiftoolGUI or exiftool itself.  I use the command line exiftool but it looks like you can edit multiple files with exiftoolGUI.  Select your files, click the edit thingy (^) under XMP, choose various, and there is lens.  Put in the text you want.
I would do this with one file first.  If the lens shows up after you read the new metadata into LR, you know you have it right.
Note, exiftool can write backup files for each file.  This makes too much of a mess for me.  I prefer to copy the directory first (I have copies anyway, I just have to make sure the backups are up to date).
Good luck!  I'm struggling with a similar situation where the same lens used by two different cameras is coming out with a different name.  I need to go back and "fix" the names in the images already imported, and then develop my procedure for setting a single unique name before I load new images into LR.  Not too much of a problem because I'm loading in GPS information anyway...  What's another call to exiftool...

  • How can I find out the serial number for my FCE 4.0 that came with my old MacBook Pro?

When I try and open my old FCE projects on my new MacBook Pro, a dialog box pops up and asks me to input the serial number for my Final Cut Express program. The software came pre-loaded on my old MacBook Pro which died. Luckily, my local Apple store was able to transfer the fcp files to my new MacBook Pro, which came with FCP X installed. I just can't open those files without the serial number of the FCE 4.0 program.
    Message was edited by: Garyb1978

It is almost impossible to transfer FCE as there are so many essential hidden files that workers in an Apple Store will know nothing about. The app needs to be installed from the original DVD.
Other than buying another copy your only chance  (very remote) is to contact the Apple Store and see if they are able to get a replacement number from Apple.

  • Where do I find the serial number for my macbook pro

My computer told me I was infected with 6 bad viruses.  An apple mac protection package wants me to sign up to get rid of these viruses.  The mac protection package is asking me for a serial number for my mac. I give it the serial number listed in my apple information but it says it is the wrong serial number.  Where can I get the serial number so mac protection can clean up my macbook pro??????

It sounds like what you're seeing is a malicious pop-up on the web. Do you have anti-virus software of some kind installed? If not, note that that's the only thing that can scan your computer for malware. A web site cannot do that, but it's trivial to display a pop-up in your web browser that looks very official, telling you viruses have been found and that you need to install their software to remove them. That's a classic malware trick... the software the pop-up wants you to install is the malware.
Can you provide a screenshot of the window warning you that you have malware? Press command-shift-4, then the space bar, then click the window. The screenshot will be placed in a file on your desktop. Add it to a post here using the camera icon in the post editor's toolbar. (Don't drag it into the post or copy and paste it... that will appear to work for you, but we won't be able to see it.)

  • How do I find the serial number for Adobe Photoshop Elements 6?

In January of 2012 I purchased an Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner.  Adobe PhotoShop Elements 6 came with it.  Last week I bought a new computer.  I installed PhotoShop Elements 6 on the new computer.  Now PhotoShop Elements 6 asks me for a 24-digit serial number.  I cannot find it on the Adobe PhotoShop Elements 6 disk that came with the scanner.  I cannot find it in any of the documention I received from Epson with the scanner.  Where can I find the 24-digit serial number for PhotoShop Elements 6 so I can transfer PhotoShop Elements 6 from my old computer to the new one?

Unfortunately, if you've never installed it, adobe has no record of your serial number. Serial numbers for bundled products are sold in great batches, and the buyer (Epson, in your case) has responsibility for them. You would need to get in touch with Epson.
If you have installed and registered PSE 6, go to adobe.com and look on the right side of the page for My Adobe. By working through the links there you should be able to find the record of the serial number you registered.

  • Is it possible in Aperture 3 to sort by camera serial number..?

Ok so I've bought a second 5Dmk2 for my Wedding photography, now the time sync is out by 1 hour on each camera, summer time and none summer time..
I know how to change this in the meta data, but my problem has a bit more to it, the file numbers also over lap, i.e i have two versions of img_8990 from both cameras, and meany of these...
So all the pic's are out of order, and the numbers are quite jumbled up too
What I would like to do, is sort by camera serial number, change the time on one set of images, then arrange by time, the rename the files...
So the question is, can/how do you arrange by camera serial number..?

    Hello,
So the question is, can/how do you arrange by camera serial number..?
You cannot sort by serial number, but you can separate your images by serial number:
I suggest to create a smart album for each camera:
File -> New -> Smart Album
Then add a rule: Serial number contains
Do this for each of your cameras, and then use "Metadata -> Batch Change -> Adjust Time Zone" for each of the separate smart albums for each of your cameras.
    Good Luck

  • Wrong Camera Serial Number

A number of years ago, I started shooting digital with a Coolpix E990.
Lightroom shows an exif serial number for this camera which is incorrect and which is in fact the serial number of a D2X which I bought much later. I have a number of pictures from this D2X camera in the database. The serial number for the D2X is shown correctly.
This false serial number for the Coolpix E990 also appears in Bridge, strangely enough.
This is not preventing me from using Lightroom normally, I am just worried that something may be corrupted.
    Any comments or ideas?

Were the images opened by any other application?
I am baffled, as I can't think of any other way that images from camera x would bear camera y's serial number....

  • How much to purchase serial number for trial version of Premier Elements 11?

A trial versin of Adobe Premeir Elements 11 came with my Photoshop Elements 11.  How much for a serial number, and what page can I go to get one?

    javair
Good question. Here is my take on this.
Adobe is not selling Premiere Elements 11 anymore. It is now selling its current version Premiere Elements 12. And, its free tryout download from Adobe is for Premiere Elements 12. And, no problem purchasing a serial number for version 12 from them.
There should be no problem in trying out the Premiere Elements 11 as per the installation disc that came with the Photoshop Elements 11 purchase. But, when it comes to purchase of Premiere Elements 11, the only scenario that I am seeing is
Find an authorized reseller who still has Premiere Elements 11 stock. Purchase that product. And, then you have 2 choices
    a. insert the serial number that comes with the purchased Premiere Elements 11 into the tryout already installed on your computer
    or
    b. uninstall the tryout, install your purchased Premiere Elements 11 with the serial number that comes with it.
A typical place that might have a Premiere Elements 11 in stock is Amazon. Have you looked there?
You could contact Adobe for input on the matter, but I suspect that you will get steered to purchasing Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12.
