Camera shops can't print RAW format

Recently I've come back from a beautiful Caribbean cruise with new photos taken with my Nikon camera. As soon as I came home from my vacation, I immediately took my flash card to the local camera shop hoping to get my pictures developed. I thought it was going to be as simple as me handing over my flash card, and getting my pictures. Unfortunately, I found out that my local camera shop doesn't print RAW format pictures. What is the best format to transfer to without losing quality? The local dealer said jpeg.

The reason you shoot in Raw format is so you can have more options and control in post processing. If you intend to let a program (or a printing lab) use automatic setings to convert the raw imagesto JPG then there is no point in shooting raw images. In other words the point of using Raw is so you can exercise crative control over processing and printing.
Typically when shooting raw format you would download the images onto you computer and then use a program (CS2, Aperture, or iPhoto) to select the best shots, trash the others and then crop, color balance and apply other edits to the images then finaly export them as JPG and burn to a CD or DVD to give to the lab. But if you only have a few images, say around 100 or so, like you say you have, there are services where you can upload the image files over the Internet. Just start the upload process before you go to bed one night and then pick them up at the retail outlet the next day. Saves you a trip.
If what you want is prints made straight off the camera then set the camera to record in JPG. Some photographers can "get it right" in the camera but I find one advantage of digital is that I get a chance to fine tune the image after I shoot. Many times I'll do much more then "fine tune" and go in with an editor and make changes to the background or something. I'll spend at least a couple minutes on each image I think is worth printing and sometime I'll work on it for an hour if I really like it

How can I download Raw format photographs into my iMac from my Sony A850 camera?

Looking at this article, it doesn't look like that camera model is supported by iPhoto. You may want to get in touch with Sony and see if they have any software that will allow you to import/view it.

  • Bridge can't read RAW format from my new camera

I just bought a new Sony SLT-A58 but Bridge says the he can't read the RAW format so, I can't download my photos.
I went online and found a Adobe Camera Raw 6.7.1 and a DNG Converter 7.4 plugins that supposidely would solve the problem. No avail. Still refuse to recognize the RAW format.
Desperate as this is my working camera and and need it up and runing asap. I had absolutely no problems with my older Sony A100.
What is weird is that... if I pass the photos in the converter, it shows me the .dng version of the photos so, something is there. Why can't Bridge see my RAW photos? ... and also, leave tons of caches and weird icons in the file, a real mess.
I am on Mac platform on OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and use CS5... and yes, all my programs and softwares are up-to-date.
    Thank you for your help...
    ... and Happy New Year

So if RAW support is specific, why do they do a plugin for CS5 and for my camera?
Adobe has released versions of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) right back to ACR 1.0 (which was compatible with Photoshop 7). However, supported cameras vary by ACR version and Adobe application version.
    You need to match:
    your camera make and model
the version of Camera Raw which supports your camera make and model
the specific version of Adobe software which supports the version of Camera Raw that you need.
In your case, the Sony SLT-A58 was first supported by ACR 7.4 - which is only supported in CS6 and later. CS5 is not compatible with ACR7.4.
Complete list of supported cameras is here
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications are listed here
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
CS5 is certainly not an antiquity and the Sony A58 is not a huge tech advanced Hasselblad. I have friends who have big Nikon and Sony A77 and Canon and import their RAW to their CS5 Bridge.
All that matters is which specific camera matches up with which version of ACR - and which Adobe applications are compatible with that version of ACR.
Can't comment on big Nikon or Canon mentioned above without specific camera model numbers.
However, the Sony A77 is supported by ACR6.5 which is compatible with Bridge CS5+. Easy to see why that combination works.
Similarly, your Sony A100 was first supported by ACR 3.5 which is compatible with Bridge CS2+. Easy to see why that works too.
Always read the Adobe tables linked above and cross-reference them with each other. That should clear up your confusion.

  • Can't open raw format files in photoshop elements 3.0

I'm sure this question has been posed here 1,000 times already, and I've just spent over an hour surfing the web, using adobe on-line support, etc. -- too much to sift through, and none of it giving me a simple answer.
    So here's the question:
    - Using Windows XP
    - I have a Nikon D40
    - Photoshop Elements 3.0
    - 2.3 Camera Raw Plug In
From what I am able to gather, I SHOULD be able to open raw format files using PE 3.0, but I get the various error messages:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".
"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file".
Am I missing some sort of simple step before I start downloading plug-ins I don't need and messing up all the settings on my computer? Any help would be appreciated, and once again, apologies if I'm repeating a question that's been asked a million times before.

Support for the Nikon D40 was added in Camera Raw version 3.7. So you would need Photoshop Elements 4.0 or later to be able to use that.
To use your version you may need to download the free DNG converter from http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/ and convert your D40 files from NEF to DNG.

  • Can't import RAW format

I have a new Panasonic DMC-FZ35, and a Macbook Pro w/ OS 10.5.8 and iPhoto '09. I tried taking some pictures in RAW format, and they won't import. Get a message that they are in an "unrecognizable format". Have tried creating a new library, didn't work. Help! Thanks.

    TD is correct.
Your camera is not on the supported RAW list for 10.5: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475 (although the Panasonic DMC-FZ50 is on the list. Panasonic must use a different method of encoding RAW for the FZ30). Your camera is also not on the list for 10.6 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825.
You might want to let Apple know if you are interested in seeing this RAW type added to the OS. iPhoto > Provide iPhoto Feedback.
Re-saveing your RAW files to a usable format as TD suggests would be a good work around.
    Cheers

  • How can I print File Format definitions?

We have multiple text and spreadsheet input files we use to load data to our DW.  Is there a way I can print the format definitions for the the text and spreadsheet files?
I've used the Auto documentation feature for work flows and data flows, but don't see an option for the print the File Formats (very well could be user error!).
    Thanks for any insight...
    Dan

You can view the file format in the Auto Documentation page but don't see a button to print it out.  Is this what you are looking for? ...
May print the web page in browser

  • I have PE11, new camera Canon Rebel t5i, in raw format, "not supported by installed version of raw".

I am using Photoshop Elements 11, using WIndows 7 Operating System. I have a new camera Canon Rebel T5i, and having problem viewing images in raw format (cr2).
Message in PE11, states, "Camera model not supported by installed version of Camera raw."
    Canon software views images.
Suspect my minimum camera raw plug in version does not support this new camera....
I am unable to locate in the software any menu item that allows me to view the camera raw plug  in version.
Appreciate any support from our Adobe forum.

Ice Storm of 2013 has hit hard, plenty of downed tree limbs and all terrain is shiny !!

At least one person was able to get ACR 8.3 to install into PSE11 using the direct-download link for ACR 8.3 CC  on Adobe’s blog, so you might try that:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2011/03/keeping-photoshop-up-to-date.html#notconnected
After downloading, if on Wndows, unzip the setup.zip to somewhere, like your Desktop, and then run the AdobePatchInstaller.  I expect there’s a similar process for Macs, but I don’t have one so cannot advise, specifically.

  • I can't dowload raw formatted pictures from my LX-5 to iPhoto 9?

I just recently lost the ability to download raw formatted pictures from my Panasonic LX-5 to my Mac Book Pro running Lion. It has worked fine for 2 years and within the last month(?) I have started getting a message saying that RW2 is an unrecognizable format.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

When I went to downloads, the latest verion of raw support I saw listed was from november of 2011(3.9), and when I tried to install it, my computer said I already have a newer version installed.
Is there somewhere else I should look?

  • New camera and can't open raw files..

I just upgraded my camera from a rebel xt to a T3i and now I am unable to open RAW files.
I am using PSE 5.0.  Any advice?

    Hi,
The T3i requires a minimum level of ACR 6.4 - which isn't supported by PSE 5
    Your options are
    1) Upgrade pse to PSE 9 or higher (PSE 12 will probably be out soon)
    2) Use the Canon software that came with your camera
    3) Download/Install the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert your CR2 files to DNG files - the DNG files can then be processed by PSE 5
If you consider upgrading, then you could download the trial version to see if you like it.

  • I have a system that can only print PCL format to a networked printer.  Can LiveCycle PDF Generator act as a solution for this?

I would also like to know if PDF Generator could then direct the created PDF based on what it contains to various e-mail accounts.

I have a main system that I can generate reports in and designate a printer to print to once the report is finished.  I want that printer to be a virtual printer that creates a PDF.  I then the ability to have that PDF auto e-mailed to some address of my choosing.  Can PDF/G do this?

  • Print shop can't print color correctly.

    Hi there,
I work at a print shop and occasionally run into problems with documents being difficult to print, but this one is especially troubling.  Out print shop does not have Photoshop but rather "Photo Impact..."  I know, don't get me started.  The issue is that I have a particular customer how did some designing in Photoshop CS4 (CS something) and it looks beautiful on his macbook but different on our PC (no matter what program we use to open any of his files- TIFF, PNG, JPG, etc). When printing to our Xerox Docucolor 252 the color is real dark and way less vivid/bright.
I tried the file on my home computer (PC with CS4) and it again looks great.  When I print it on my home printer (Canon ip6700d) the printed colors are much closer to the screen even though I get an error telling me the printer is a non-postscript printer and so it will ignore some of the document properties.  This leads me to believe that since the Xerox is a postscript enabled (I think) printer it is using data I know nothing about to darken and dirty the image.  This is way outside of my knowledge and I would love to figure this out.
We have tried converting the image both to CMYK and RGB and have played around with the different color profiles, sRGB, Adobe RGBxxx etc. with very suble changes but nothing acceptable.  I think we are to the point where the customer would be ok to start from scratch but if he doesn't know what to do differently I think we'll be right back here again.
Any suggestions?  I'm frustrated and desperate to figure this out!
    Thank for any ideas,
    -Stephen

  • Can't print A5 format page with ePrint

    Hi!
I'm using a HP LaserJet P1102w and I need to print some documents using ePrint in A5 size paper but the ePrint Center only allow me to set A4, Letter and Legal size. I want to know if it's a way to print with A5 size.
    *A5 size is 210x158mm or 8,3x5,8 inch.

The only options at this time for eprint would be letter, legal, and A4. For other sizes you will likely have to print locally to the printer from a computer to have full driver support.

  • Digital camera RAW formats supported - Canon EOS 7D

Does anyone know if and when Canon's 7D RAW images will be supported by Aperture 2.1? I just got the 7D and Aperture is not recognizing the RAW images. What is the typical lag time for Apple to add new camera model RAW files?

How about whining about their still not having issued a RAW update to handle the Olympus E-620. That was released the first of May.
I realize there aren't the number of buyers as some of the Nikons and Canons, but come on...can adding a RAW format to the library be that big a task? I'm sure that most of Aperture's customers buy new cameras with some regularity (since the technology is changing so fast). Why routinely aggravate them by taking a long time to add the new cameras?
I getting REALLY tired of exporting jpgs and then reimporting them just so I can see more than a thumbnail (I have the camera save jpgs and RAWs simultaneously, but Aperture won't show the jpegs if there is a RAW version as well).

  • Can't print Landscape in IDCS3

I'm using Leopard and can happily print Landscape format to my Espon printer in Illustrator, photoshop, quark and even InDesign CS2 - but it will not adjust the page to print landscape in IDCS3, just keep printing across a portrait page and missing half the image off - is there a work round, fix, alternative?? Please help

The color should be identical. Make sure to set Acrobat's color
    management identically to InDesign's.
FWIW, I never print from InDesign anyway since I always send PDFs to the
printer so it's the PDFs that matter.

  • Is the RAW format of Canon PowerShot G7X possibile in Lightroom ver. 5.7?

I use Lightroom 5 on my Acer PC. I have just bought a new camera, Canon PowerShot G7X, with Raw format possibility. I have also upgraded my Lightroom 5 to version 5.7. Still the application will not accept the RAW format pictures taken with this camera. Do I do something wrong, or does the latest version (5.7) not include the RAW format of Canon PowerShot G7X?

    Hi Jan,
Yes your PowerShot G7 X is supported with LR 5.7. Would suggest you to make sure your Lr is up-to-date(From Help>Updates).
In case you still get that issue, try the below suggestions and check.
Restore Lr preferences. Recover catalog, images after resetting preferences
Create new Lr catalog, import G7 X raw files and then check.
Let me know how it goes.
    Thanks
