Camera shutter not working on iPhone 4

two days ago i tried to launch my camera.app and the shutter wouldnt open. i tried hard resetting my iphone and resetting it from the settings>general>reset but it didnt help. i tried using an application from the appstore(camera+) but the screen was always black. today i updated to 5.1 and im still not able to get the shutter open. Does anyone have a solution?? thanks in advance

yes i have tried everything and nothing helped so i quit... few days ago my friend tried my camera app and it worked!! thanks for the help ^_^

Hi since updating to IOS 8, my camera has not worked on my iphone. I know its the update as the camera works in other apps such as snapchat. When I click on the camera app, the screen just freezes and goes blank. I can occasionally get a picture on video mode, but when I swipe to picture mode I just get a blank screen. Any suggestions? Update. The camera works for a few seconds after a hard restart then just goes to black.

Camera shutter not opening on iPhone 4s

I've had my iPhone 4s for about two months. It had been working perfectly.
After a recent drop that required the front glass to be replaced, my cameras are no longer working properly. The shutter for the rear camera will not open at all. The front camera will only work through a third party app called "AutoShutter" that was recommended to me. The phone is still working perfectly, otherwise.
Is this reversable? Can I get my 4s cameras working again? I've tried the following:
1) Soft reset with home/power buttons
2) Downloading other software apps to run the camera
3) Deleting all photos in my phone
4) Full reset of the phone to factory settings
Your recommendations are much appreciated. I'm waiting with baited breath in hopes that this is not permanent! I did not get the warranty or insurance. Thanks!

i have the same problem, took it to apple store they said is a hardware problem, how could be possible if it WAS WORKING PERFECT BEFORE, very frustrated with them.. i've tried EVERYTHING in the world.. restarted factory settings recovery mode etc etc etc. nothing worked for me. and i forgot.. the phone never turns off just reboot and the sound goes off and comes on whenever it wants....

Camera function not working when iphone is locked!!

I recently upgraded my iphone 3GS to the IOS 5.1 however i have noticed that now i am unable to use the camera whilst my phone is locked.
I can use the button but the screen kind of jumps up, like when you double click the home button, to reveal the bottom part of the camera, the shutter and camera/video camera slide, but then the locked page comes back down to hide the camera. Also the function button isnt properly formed, i have the camera but instead of being in a box just the top and bottom lines are shown.
It's so annoying can anyone help?

You now slide it up to open the camera instead of tapping.

I am also getting this problem in between though its not consistent. As iPhone 4S handles background applications, when this problem comes,
1) Close the camera,
2) Double click on home button to get the background applications,
3) Hold any of the icons to get them wiggling
4) Then close the camera app by clicking x on the icon.
5) Now try to open the camera, it shall work.
Repeat the same whenever you face this problem.Hope this helps

Take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar for testing, and if it is defective and under warranty they will replace. Since you say iPhone 4, was this a used or refurbished iPhone?

Did you try to set it up "as new device" without using the backup afterwards? How to set up your iPhone or iPod touch as a new device
If this does not work, get it serviced or visit your next Apple Store.

You will get a service replacement ,maybe new maybe refurbed to new standard
but in a "brown box" so no bits and pieces just unit for unit exchange
They will know of iPhone history from their systems but always
worth having proof of ownership but not essential (as far as I know )

No one here can help you. If your phone is no longer under warranty, a third-party repair shop will most likely be your best bet. You can't mail the phone to Apple, in the US, as Apple does not accept international shipments. You could mail it to a friend/relative, in the US, & they could take it to an Apple store for you. Some Apple stores repair iPhones. Otherwise, you're looking at an out of warranty replacement.
