Camera speed question

I am looking for a camera that doesn't take forever to "load" once you turn it on and doesn't take forever between pictures. Is there a name for this feature so that I can look for it when buying?
Thanks

I take it you are looking for a camera that is fully functional once you turn it on and not go through a power up routine you have to wait for. I'm not sure how many point and shoot models are "instant on" (there probably are a few of them though), but all DSLR's power up in anywheres from .12 seconds to .30 seconds on ave.
To eliminate lag between shots you need to look for a camera with a high 'memory buffer'. This is how many shots a camera will take before it has to write to the card. For example my D3 (with buffer upgrade) gets around 110 shots (jpeg fine) before it has to write to the card and my D300's get around 100 before writing. This is assuming I have it on continuous and shoot 100 shots at once. I've never hit the buffer limit.
Hope that helps.

  • Slow camera speed

Hi all. I am having trouble getting my camera speed to run as advertised. I am using a Basler A601f connected to a CVS-1450. I am currently trying 30fps, but it will only give me between 20 and 25 (not saving any information). Also, when I try to save a series of jpeg files using grab, the frame rate will only give me about 9fps and slow down gradually. Is my connection to the external hard drive or the drive itself getting overloaded? I'm using a FireWire 400 connection to a Maxtor 500Gb One-Touch external drive. Thanks!
    Ken

    Hi Ken,
It sounds like you might be acquiring your images onto a
host computer.  Are you acquiring your
images in the Measurement and Automation Explorer?  One thing that could be causing the delay is transferring
the images from the CVS to your computer.
Something you can try to solve this is to deploy your program (is it
LabVIEW or VBAI) onto the CVS and then connect your CVS to a monitor.  Then in your program display your frame rate
onto the monitor using the RT video out vi.
As for when you are saving your
data the delay could be caused by your external hard drive.  It could depend on how your program is written.  If you are grabbing and saving each image the
time it takes to save to file could be slowing down your acquisition. You can verify
this by changing your program to see how long each loop is taking.  I hope this helps.  If you have any questions let me know.
    Have a great day,
    GG

  • New Infinity User/Speed Question

Hi All, I`m another newbie in here and also to the Infinity BB as well.
So Hello and Good Evening to you all. :-)
I had my Infinity installed on Monday Afternoon without a hitch I am pleased
to say and I have been lurking on the forums reading up over the last week
or so checking out the pitfalls and wrinkles I am likely to encounter.
I know this is an on going chestnut on here from all that I have read but when I
was given a over the phone (by a nice BT lady employee) speed test (I have had a new line installed
before getting Infinity) I was told I would get 37.5 meg down and over 8 meg upspeed of which I
    was obviously happy and impressed.
When the young man did a speed test on Monday I got a creditable around about 32 meg so that was fine.
I have been testing since then on and off and a few times its got back to 30 and over but mainly in the 20s
    and teens.
Tonight I did a test at about 20:06pm and got just 6.96 meg down what is that all about?
The Up speed had been mainly around 7-8 so I down have a problem with that at all but what about my dowload speed, the homehub is wired into my PC.
What do you suggest I do next as I dont really fancy waiting until the 10 days as it seems a bit convenient that date I am committed for 18 months!
Any help will be gratefully accepted.
    Andrew.

"Is that 15 sync or through put ?"
To be honest, I don't know.
I have been hovering around these forums for a couple of months, since Infinity came to my area, not sure whether to change over or not. I was forced into a decision when informed that my ISP was closing down (UKOnline), and I could move to Sky with 6 month free broadband. As I detest the whole Sky/Rupert Murdock organisation ........ here I finally am, on Infinity
Sorry, strayed a bit from the topic there. During this 'hovering' period, I swear that I've seen a post stating that 15 Mbit figure, but I cannot remember where it is, so cannot confirm or quote it.
Perhaps, based on the Speedtester results output, which states :-
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 12000-38717 Kbps
That it maybe the sync speed rather than the throughput. Either way, they are BOTH low, if true .....
    Cheers
Edit: @Monkey - I would regard sync speed as the speed negotiated between your router/modem and your ISP, and the throughput the actual speed OBTAINED when transferring files, taking into account the overheads of the protocols/methods used (losses)
Throughput always being less than the sync speed
When i was on ADSL2+ I would knock off around 15% for losses (overheads). So if I synced up at 12 MBits, I would expect to a get throughput of around 10.25 Mbits'ish, and this usually was the case. 12Mbits - 15% (1.8 MBits) = 10.2 Mbits. This 15% figure may not be relevant to Infinity, I would hope it would be less, but don't know.

  • Transfer HD video from canon dslr to iPad 2 via cam kit Question!

    Hey all.
    I have a Canon DSLR that records 1080p HD video at 24, 25 & 30 fps and 720p HD video at 50 & 60 fps.
I have an iPad first generation with a ipad cam kit for transferring video and photos. It transfers photos just fine, but with video, it can't transfer full 1080p clips at all directly from the camera using the USB cam kit connector or via SD card using that adaptor. Nor will it transfer 720p clips using the cam kit unless the clips are not more than 30 fps. Since the canon t3i dslr shoots 720p video at 60 fps, the video is not viewable unless I first transfer it thru my iMac at home and THEN load it on the iPad.
Since I travel a lot, this is not convenient for me.
I want to be able to transfer my HD movies directly onto my iPad while on the road and edit them and then upload them to my travel blog or YouTube.
The first gen iPad cannot run the new iMovie app. Only the new iPad 2 can. So I was thinking of upgrading to the iPad 2.....
HOWEVER...I want to know if I will have the same problem trying to transfer my HD video directly from my canon t3i DSLR via the cam kit while on the road so that I can view and edit the clips on my iPad 2?
I know getting the MacBook air is an option, but I prefer traveling with the iPad. I just want to know if any video/photographers who have the new iPad 2 and canon dslr can answer my questions.
    Thanks so much.
    Cheers.

Yes, they will transfer as long as they are in 720p. However, you might want to check this if you are willing to try. Might save you from having to buy a new iPad?

  • Camera Connection questions...

I have a couple questions about the iPad Camera Connection that I have not been able to find answers for on the forum:
    1. Does the Photo app recognise already imported images if you leave images on your camera after importing and want to import newly shot ones? or does it import them all again?
    2. I use a Canon 5D Mk2 - I've read that the iPad cannot play the movies, however does it still import them from the camera and then allow you to transfer them to your laptop later?
    thanks!

For your first question, the answer is no. It will ask if you want to import an old (already imported) image just like it asks for a new image. At least that is how it works with my ipad.

  • Cisco WVC210 WLAN Camera - multicasting question

    Hello,
it act's about the CISCO WC210 WLAN Camera, I would be really happy, if somebody could help us to eliminate our problem
    Informatiom
We are using the WVC210 WLAN-Cameras (http://ww:w.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9948/), this camera has a web server, so is accessible over a normal web-browser, to see the video transmission.
We just set it up with a normal WLAN-Router, so the camera is connected wireless to the router, and this router is connected to the internet (WAN).
With the cisco video-software or the web-interface, it's now possible to stream the video.
    Our questions:
Now we like to stream the Video on our Website, so people what visit our site can take a look at our company and so on.
We are able to stream the Video with the MJEPG-Format, like the camera web-interfaces offers...
The problem is, with normal ip-transfer method, each user would connect directly to the camera and increases the data-transfer, the internet-connection will than overload easily.
But the camera supports multi-casting,  so the camera only transmit one data stream and all clients connected to this stream will receive the packages.
Our problem is, we do not have any knowledge about multi-casting and how it works, the camera has a normal ip-address and a pre-configured multicast address with group name, so how can we connect a client to this multicast group, without increasing the data-transfer with each new user?
Would you recommend us to use the multicast function of this camera or put a server between the camera and the website?
Could you give as advice or some kind of tutorial, how we can set up this multicast service and easily get a player for the stream on our website, without using many plug ins or special apps ?
Looking forward for your help, thank you all
    Regards
    Markus
P.s.: You can also reply in german

Hi, your general understanding of multicast is correct, but I don't think there is any multicast in general use on the Internet today.  In the mid 1990's there was a thing called MBONE that experimented with this idea for basically the same application as you describe- to multicast video.  Check Google or wikipedia for some history of MBONE in case you are interested. That said, you should be able to use the multicast ability on your own LAN/WAN environment if that helps you at all.
I think the way people stream video to many users via the Internet today is essentially by having a lot of bandwidth and CPU.  You could probably find places to host your video and 'rebroadcast' it via their servers and Internet bandwidth.   Take a look a qik.com for an example of something that might help you.  There must be other services similar to qik that can 'rebroadcast' video streams that you only send one stream to them and they let multiple users see it.  I would expect to pay something for this service, but you might find free, ad supported services.
Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

It used to be 77mb last week. Does the speed reduce by how many customers are on the cabinet? We just got the FTTC installed so lots of people are buying it just now.

If you use this checker it will tell what cabinet you are on and what services it can receive. post back here editing out your phone number

  • Export resolution and camera resolution question

I am thinking of buying a new camera- specifically one that will film video in widescreen as well as widescreen photo's. I have been looking at some that have a maximum video resolution of 848x480, which will come out fine.
With iMovie, so far I have been using my wife's Casio camera which records video at 640x480 (4:3 ratio), and I have been cropping the video in iMovie and exporting as 640x360 widescreen. The next resolution up from 640x360 in iMovies export settings is 960x540.
My question is, if my new camera has a video res of 848x480, when I export that in iMovie, will it have to be down-scaled to 640x360, or will there be an option to export at the same resolution (I don't think it will let me upscale it to 960x540)?
    Thanks.

As long as you don't have "constrain" checked, it won't resample.

  • Constant camera speed on path

I have a moving and tilting camera in 3D environment. I want to movement and tilting to different directions to be constant and smooth without 'locking' exact camera position to exact time. If I use keyframes to edit camera path, it messes up the constant speed. I could use motion path, but camera tilting still needs to be done with keyframes which messes up the constant motion. What's the best way to do this?
So basically I want to set camera path and positions, but leave timing for Motion to calculate.

Have you tried to Add Parameter Behavior > Oscillate to the Z-Rotation of the Camera from the Properties pane? (set the amplitude lower than 100° - say about 30-45°) [Right click on the Rotation > Z; select Add Parameter Behavior > Oscillate, if you don't know the shortcut; OR, to the Camera; click on Behaviors > Parameter Behavior > Oscillate, and from the Apply To: drop down, select Properties > Transform > Rotation > Z]

  • Taking iPhone from PC to Mac - Camera Roll question!

OK, I have an iPhone 3GS that is sync'd with iTunes on my PC. I have created a new iTunes library on my new Mac and would like to transfer the phone to be synced with this. When I connect the iPhone to the Mac it asks if I would like to "Erase and Sync", which I'm happy to do, I agreed this and it then stated that the phone was registered to another iTunes account and would I be happy to change it to the account on this library (it must be the same iTunes account as I only have one.)
Now I don't mind anything being deleted or restarted, but the only thng I really REALLY dont want to lose is my Camera Roll. Can anyone explain what will happen to this if I go ahead an sync it all to the new Mac?

Set up iTunes on your new Mac. Log into your iTunes account (under the "store" menu).
GO TO THE PREFERENCES AND DISABLE AUTOMATIC SYNCING FOR IPOD'S AND IPHONES!!
While you're in there, select the option to "copy music to my iTunes Library" and "Keep iTunes Library Organized". (or whatever is called, I can't remember and since I'm copying files to mine right now, I can't check the menu)
Copy all your music, movies, apps, podcasts etc. over to the new iTunes on the Mac (you can copy everything to an external drive and then just drop it in the iTunes window where your "music" would normally be displayed. iTunes will copy it all to the proper locations in your new Mac.
Now when you plug in your iPhone it will show up in iTunes and you can right click, control click, double finger tap, whatever you decide to use on your iPhone's icon to access the contextual menu and select Backup. This will start the process of backing up your iPhone on your new computer. After you back it up, you should be able to sync without fear of losing all your texts and such. The only thing I don't know is if you can copy the Library files and such from the PC to the Mac so you can keep your playlists. I'm pretty sure it doesn't go the other way as I just tried to do it migrating my iTunes to a new Windows 7 install. If I remember correctly, iTunes may ask you some questions about adding the iPhone to that iTunes account but I know you will be able to back up before anything gets changed, I just bought a new MacBook Pro and had to go through it myself.
This exact same thing happens when you move from one Mac to another, as I just did, except I can copy my Library files and thus don't lose any playlists either.
    Good Luck

  • Wireless speed question

Our laptop connects to the HH with its built in wireless , connection is solid and the speeds are good , BUT im getting a max of 42mb/s and wired i get 69-72.
I realise this is due to the limitations of the built in wireless. I realise 42 mb isnt a shabby speed but we do do a fair bit of downloading on the lappy so.......
If i get belkin 150mbps dongle (play have one on offer for a tenner) will i get the full fat 70 meg down i get with wired?
I realise that on paper this looks like a daft question as to me it looks like the answer is yes ha ha but im not sure about the limitations of wireless etc.

if you want (nearly) full speed, make sure the dongle is wireless N and MIMO compatible and rated up to 300mb speeds.it may be slightly more expensive, but worth it in the long term

  • Fan speed question

    Greetings,
After having some problems playing watch dogs on pc and looking for solutions on the internet I started to notice that my graphics card was producing alot of heat when i was touching it (my case is open on one side & don't ask why :/ ). I started googling and i came upon MSI Afterburner in which you can manually change the speed of the fan.
I changed the settings of the fan speed a little bit, but since i'm no expert i wanted to ask how the other pcgamers would handle this 'fan tab', since i'm no expert on pc hardware/software. I did play a bit yesterday with these settings and i did not get a single crash so i think it has worked allready. I noticed that the speed increased as a was playing and i don't think my card does that automaticly when its getting hot.
I don't care so much about the noise when i'm gaming since i don't pay attention to that (and i could turn the volume up) but i read somewhere that you shouldn't use the fan speed at +70% all the time since it could break sooner.
Here's an image to show you how i arranged it. Its in dutch but i think everyone will still be able to understand the graph (^_^)
I'm using an amd radeon hd 7800 card btw.
Thanks in advance and if you need other information, pls let me know

Well, touching is not a valid way to check if a card gets too hot but checking temps in load and idle with Afterburner. If you want it to be the coolest possible you can of course use a more agressive fan profile with Afterburner that is active as long as Afterburner runs no matter what program you are using besides (browsing internet, running games or whatever). Fan speed will use the steps you predefinded in Afterburner according to the current temps. Don't woryy higher fan speed will not cause a noticeable limitation of the fans lifespan.

  • Router / Camera access question

I have some network cameras in my house, and have set them up to be viewed remotedly over the internet.  I have port forwarding in place and dyndns in place and everything's working fine.  My question is - is there some way to know when someone is connecting to one of my cameras?

I think there is no such option to view who is connected to your camera. The best way to keep your camera secured do not share the DynDNS link or the Internet IP Address with anyone.

  • Camera Playback question

Well, I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question and it is not strictly a FCP question to boot. I realize a lot of you are cutting edge HD types, but I'm still using a Sony TRV 900 camera. I know that even if you set it to shoot in 16:9, it's not true 16:9. But if one were to do this, how do you get it to play back without distortion on a regular 4:3 screen (i.e. with the black bars top and bottom instead of the compressed picture you get otherwise)? I can't find a menu setting to allow this. Thanks in advance.
    Steve

One of the easiest is to create a new sequence that is 4:3.
Then drag the completed 16:9 sequence INTO that one.
It should be fine on its own, but sometimes it still looks like squished 4:3. IF that's the case, click on the 16:9 sequence that's inside the timeline of the 4:3 and hit the ENTER key on your numeric keypad.
This will then load it into the viewer without opening up the 16:9 sequence again.
Once it's there, click on the MOTION tab and twirl down the DISTORT triangle.
At the bottom of that you'll see a setting for ASPECT... change that to 33 or -33. I always forget which.
    Then render.
    Good luck,
    CaptM
